@interpol I agree! We're working on that right now!
I _do_ have LÖVE installed, but maybe it's the wrong version? The main menu (_New Game_, _Options_, _Credits_, _Exit_) won't let me leave, although I _can_ mouse-over. (Currently on Win7 + mouse/keyboard.) It seems like I'm unable to rate this at this time, sorry :-( Maybe I could try later on my laptop w. Linux on it?
We worked with the latest version of Löve, however we're working on exporting the game for Windows, Mac OS/X and Linux so stay tuned, it should fix a a memory leak and a couple annoying bugs.
Stable binaries are online!
I had a ton of fun with this; I enjoyed the art and the gameplay. I love how you randomly generated the dungeons! Needs more music ;) Great job vivid and sols!
@vividreality Thanks, I'm on my laptop now, so I can confirm that Linux works as well! (... I didn't know you _could_ get memory leaks in that language.)
On the first day I only found treasures worth 1g and 2g ... Fortunately, the 10g and 20g treasures on the next days made it so I kept playing 'till the end. I don't think I felt the tension you intended, because even if the mobs where '90% angry', they couldn't really dent my health. Overshooting in the 'easy' direction is definitely better than the other way around though!
I like the mini-map, nice touch.
Oh, the letters on the stat-block seemed a half lower than they should be. Also the 'press any key' text is _really_ small-print.
There should be more games where you save cats. Who needs royalty anyway?
ETA: Rereading this it does sound a bit too negative/snarky; I did enjoy the game!
Yey! I am here again!
So, I've played your cute roguelike game and I have some thoughts.
First of all, I really love the background music and mushrooms. They are so cuuute, despite being angry and evil. Secondly, I like the idea when your loot makes enemies harder. But the scale (+0.1) is really small. I think you could tweak it!
Dialogues are great, but the bottom line with tips is very small, maybe you could use larger fonts?
Saved Mr.Mittens in 2 days all of my experience as a gamer has led me to this glorious moment.
Jokes aside though, this is a well put together rogue like. I have to ask, did you resize the sprites by any chance or are they blurry on purpose ?
@priom Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The blurriness or the sprites is indeed caused by resizing. Originally everything is designed in a 32x32 pixel format.
@solsforest oh, makes sense. I do like how the sprites color up to emphasize brightness when you enter the room.
You found copper coins...1g, you found gold coins...3g, you found silver statue 15g, welp that escalated quickly :D Very well put together, I really liked the art style in this one. I didn't manage to save mittens since I started to get only copper coins from the coffers :(
Here's my honest feedback, hope you take it with a grain of salt: 1. Good points: Graphics is good, I really like the mini maps and the way rooms light up when you enter. Music doesn't get in the way and sfx is cool. I like the chracter designs (are they inspired by Goombas and Link by any chance?).
2. Bad points: Controls being mouse click and the camera moving, it's hard to engage in combat. Also it takes so many clicks to get somewhere that my hand almost hurts. On that note, the (whether procedural or handmade) levels were inversely proportional to how little content there is per level. I have to walk a lot to get to one gold chest, and it gets tiresome. I feel you have created a sense of vastness with your portal and rooms, that if it had been more eventful, would have made a really exciting game (like Zelda's dungeons). Instead there's just not much to... well, explore. Nonetheless, with the time you had, I can understand the lack of events. Additionally I didn't feel much increase in difficulty as the monsters get angrier.
Overall good effort, and a decent sandbox that can be expanded on.
@gastricsparrow in these types of roguelikes you're supposed to hold the left click not rapidly press it ;)
@priom Thanks, that just shows how much of a games noob I am. I did say "a grain of salt"!
Yo! We finished your game. At least we think :) Mr. Mittens appeared back in the inn, after refusing to follow us through the door in the forest :) Gfx good, sounds and music very good but as the others said, the camera movement was bad. Also only one game mechanic, really. The boss was nice :) Good job after all!
Nice game. I'm pretty fond of dungeon crawlers, so this was right up my ally.
Some things though:
The fact that you heal on level up made the game to easy though. Managed to get all the gold and then some (lost track with the messages) on the first day.
Also, I would have opted to include keyboard commands to make navigating easier. Constaly clicking can get annoying and keeping the mouse pressed caused my character to walk around enemies at times.
Very nice game, keep it up.
@thijs-tak Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! The desicion to keep only mouse controls was based on our plans to port it to android. We agree that the gameplay needs balancing and tweaking. But hey, 72hrs and just one programmer :)!
Amazing entry! Good graphics, great music and fun concept. Impressive how many mechanics are in for such a quick timeframe. Keep up the great work!
@fabio-guedes Thank you so much for your kind words! We highly appreciate it! <3
It reminds me of elona, one of my favorite rpg. The art is a bit blur but it's still nice. I like the control and shadow of view but it's still a bit tired to direct my character. Music is perfect. Some problems for me: 1. when I switch to other applications and return I'll lose control. 2. Nothing happens when I saved my cat and bring him back to inn ,is that intentional for a second round? 3. It seems less connected to the theme as far as I am concerned. Besides the overall flow is a bit repeated without incentive for exploration that all I do is just walk arouond and look for the random crate. Enemies never made a challenge either. The level up seems also come withount intention. So, though it's fun to complete the tasks, the experience may be more exciting. Honestly I've seen the potential of this game and I know it's very hard to finish it in such short time so I have to say It's a nice work. It gives me the experience of an adventure story in a magical forest in a short time.
Loved the art and music! Not sure how much there is replay value, but still a fun and very solid game :)
I did wonder if the innkeeper was colluding with the bandit and was taking a cut of the coins. All seems like a scam to take money from an innocent adventurer. Ironically, my cat wouldn't get out of my lap while I was playing the game.
With a bit of balancing this could turn into a really nice game.
I really like the art style on the menus and text, but there was one piece of text that was so small that I couldn't read it.
Great entry, some weird stuff but the theme the audio and graphics are really good !
Very impressive what you managed to do produce in this short time. Liked the art, music and dialogue. Forest dungeons with line of sight looked nice. Sound effects were a bit too sharp but OK. Gameplay quickly became tedious without any real challenges. Would be cool with upgrades, alternate weapons such as bow, and more varied monsters.
Nice work! Would have liked a little more monster variation, but I understand that you can only do so much within the time limit.
Nice game you have here. SUPER WELL DONE!
Come check out my game if you like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected
Very original idea!
Nice game but I don't like the movement but it's only me :)
