PS. I wrote on the wrong comment box.
The game looks incredible and also the physic is great. Unfortunately a weren't able to get past the second door. I guess it wanted three keys from me but I've had only one.
Hey, a quick GIF guide showing the key locations is on its way. I figured it might get frustrating to find the keys if you're not into that sort of thing.
I made a guide showing the locations of the keys if you get stuck: http://imgur.com/a/N2M8y#0
Love the graphics. Also the cannon jump mechanic is very clever :)
Wow, you've got a lot going on in here. So far I'd say this is the game that kept me the most engrossed for longest. Great job!
Love the recoil on the gun, I can bounce myself back onto platforms when I overshoot! Thematically it's lovely, the pirate theatre is a fun idea. Good job!
you got a lot done. nice work.
Beautifully presented. It's very cute how this is set in the theatre. It would have been a nice touch if the ghosts had wires attached (as it's the theatre) but this is really, really nice.
This is super impressive to get done in 48 hours. Really solid controls. My only problem was accidently changing screens got really annoying. Great work.
Holy moly @badlydrawnrod, that would have been hilarious and perfect! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!
Nice graphics, I love the use of the theatre curtains :)
Amazing work.
Did You render the Water and curtain effect in Maya?
This is awesome! Great work on the graphics.
Cool one! I like the cannon-jump :D
Wow, really well done! I saw some of your posts about the parrot animation, but I couldn't imagine you had so much going on! I loved the game and how hard was to get the keys (I had a bad time with the third one!)
Congrats and thanks!
Excellent beautiful game, very fun and well polished, kinda cheaty interpretation of the theme :p rebel!
Pretty cool game! I liked the cannon thing, and how it knocked you back. The curtains were slow in the web version for me, so I was glad you could turn them off.
A cool looking game with pirates. The concept is a bit overused but still a fun game!
Cannon physics, rope swinging, and all this art, all in 48 hours? That's mighty impressive. I really enjoyed firing downward to "double-jump" (though you might consider giving a little hint about that, I was stuck for a while before I figured that out) Relating to the theme of the compo, I know it takes place on a stage, but I definitely got the feel that it was more than one screen. Still, it looks like you got quite a lot accomplished in 48 hours, bravo!
@March. The curtains were done in maya with nCloth. I couldn't find an easy/quick way to get ncloth or even vertex animation moved over to Unity, so I did a rendered video.
The water is stock Unity water.
i really like the art! it was a lot of fun until the camera glitched under the platform D:
Nice game, but it could use a little bit of polish. i like the curtain idea. :D
This is a cute little game with a fine pixel style. Nice mechanics... harrr A pirate I was meant to be! Trim the sails and roam the sea! ...
Best game I played so far... key locations helped...
Hi there. Loaded incredibly slowly... ... gave up after about 3 minutes and only half-way. Will try again later if I get a chance. Not rated yet.
@mrexcessive
Hm, I wonder why that would be, it really shouldn't be taking that long. Did you try the first web link or the second? My website should load it faster than gamejolt, but it might not hurt to try both links.
Great visual style
Very impressive for a compo entry! I found the platforming puzzles pretty engaging.
A small suggestion: it would be nice to have the ability to lock the cannon's direction. It's very much playable as it is, but when moving between screens using "cannonball flight" having to cross the whole screen with mouse is slightly inconvenient.
@alfadur Yeah that came up a little too late in my playtesting/level building to properly fix. All in all, I'd really like a chance to redo the camera mechanics since they feel a little off to me now.
A lesson to keep in mind for next time I suppose.
Nice work, the art is fine and this was pretty well done metroidvania. Really liked the cannon jumping even though it took me a moment to figure out. That could have been mentioned somewhere to save time. Found all keys and defeated the kraken.
Loved the recoil mechanic. What can I say? CANNONBALL MACHINE GUN!!!
This was a lot of fun. Some of the jumps were frustrating because To fire the canon underneath me I had to click outside the game window, which would make me lose focus, but I think that is just a thing that the Unity player does in Chrome. So totally not your fault,
I had a lot of fun playing. The setting reminds me of Paper Mario
Great job!
Pretty darn polished for a Ludum Dare game. Didn't know you can jump on top of palm trees, though. Enjoyed it a lot!
@AdventureIslands Thanks for sticking with the game all the way through.
@Grindstorm That's my favorite one too!
@MiniBobbo I feel your pain. I wish I knew a way to lock the mouse inside of the window. It probably exists in Unity actually and I just haven't looked...
A nice game :)
Cool game! Love the cannon jump and the graphics. Nicely done!
Looks good and is fun to play. The cannon is nice :)
Great presentation and cute pirate! Really nice scene changes with the curtain. Couldn't seem to get the cannon boost jump to work though, maybe it's just me. Thanks a ton for great feedback on my game! :)
@Anachron You're very welcome, and thanks! The jump mechanic is something I wish I had explained better in-game. You can see examples of it in the gameplay video and key walkthrough linked above if you're still curious.
great game, nice art, good work
really liked the visual style - i might play it again when i have more time and watch the walkthroughs
simple but addicting. I had a fun playing it!
Graphics were good. Gameplay was good. Unfortunately, controls and audio were not good. We played until the end and slayed the kraken!
Good game. We followed your updates throughout the competition and looked forward to playing the game; Not bad!
Very well done. I love the mechanics. Controls and physics felt very good. Level design needs some work, the keys were an easter egg hunt but not enough to make that interesting.
Very nice platformer. I like the different using of weapon and the exploration of the level. Discover new areas after unlock a new weapon is great.
Main bad point : Controllers. I don't like the using of the mouse. First it is not adapted to webplayer (I often click outside the windows). Also when we switch screen, the orientation change. Last thing about controller, I think you should take an other button than S to switch weapon. Because by reflex it's for go down.
Second bad point : No treasure at the end ;)
Also I don't know if it's a bug. But the boss can attack you anywhere you are in the level :)
I enjoy the game by the way. That a great jobs in compo. Congrats!
For a compo entry, this game is amazingly well done. A lot of attention to many details here -- the pirate ghosts, the parrot animations, the BOSS FIGHT (in a Metroid-vania compo game WTF?), and the general game progression. A lot of good stuff here. AND you had a tutorial that guided players through various game input while you proceeded through the start of the game. Are you Compo Jesus or something? c___c
There were a few things that did nag at me and I did have trouble with, however -- the camera is definitively your enemy. I know that the theme was quite restrictive, in terms of the entire game on one screen, but I think the flippy-floppy trouble that I had originated simply from the level design, and having too many important things close to the edges of the screen instead of in the middle of the screen. The player controls were a little bit sticky in terms of jumping and shooting the cannon (my mouse would flip around sporadically at times, depending on the direction of the screen change), and there were a couple of jumps that were quite hard to achieve -- but it wasn't bad enough that I couldn't get through the game. The biggest obstacle I had a problem with was the spikes -- largely because they often were located in tight areas that were hampered by the camera, and if I hit the flat side of the spikes I died instantly.
I might also suggest a better way to identify where a key is .. either via particle effect or sound or both. This would have to be implemented very well to keep from being annoying, of course. :)
Also, I did not realize, at the one end of the screen, that I could jump over the barrier and into the water. Some indication, such as a dock, item, etc, that you can go in that direction/walk on the water would be stellar. :)
Overall, this is fantastic for a compo entry. REALLY good work!
Good fun, the curtain/theatre idea fits well with the theme. Also great music.
The game is optimized for right handed people. As a leftie this was quite a challenge.
I had to check the GIF guides to figure out that you could jump on top of the palm trees. Ended up getting the second cannon ball, but couldn't make it past the spikes all the way back to the left of the starting point. Well, I got past the first spike once by double-jumping over it, but then died immediately in the next room. And then died ~40 times and rage quit.
Pretty fun for such a short amount of time and good level layouts.
I didn't realise you could walk on water and tried to rocket-jump my way accroos the double-spike screen :)
