This game is...interesting. Jumping feels a bit weird and the platforms don't go up if you're standing on them. Also, the gameplay had nothing to to with the theme, which is a waste, because I think this was a really good theme that allowed for a wild variety of games, and you develop...a puzzle platformer?
Quick tip: If you're making a survival horror-ish game and you really want music, make it very subtle. Also, switching the assets around isn't enough to make the player feel like a zombie. The gameplay is in complete contradiction to the "story of the game" and it felt like I was the human trying to kill zombies. Oh well, good luck next time :D
Quick tip: Playtest your game. A lot.
Great mechanic, graphics and level design. Easily the best LD33 game I've played so far. Great job! Only complaint I have is that it doesn't stick to the theme.
Intro is funny, game doesn't work...
Very little content and the gameplay has no depth, but it respected the theme very well and the hand drawn graphics set it apart from what could have been a very dull game.
Thanks for all the positive comments, I really appreciate it! :D Also, thanks for the tip, Ned! That's good to know for the future!
@sunflakestudios It's the same version for all 3 platforms. Can you give me more details? Are you getting an error? Try updating your OS maybe?
I know it's not the most complex game ever, but a tutorial or at least a description would help...
It crashes after 10 seconds every time I open it up. Good use of the theme though!
This is so legit
That control scheme though...
Programmer messed up. Outside of that, great job on the graphics, sounds and overall atmosphere!
Thank you for pointing that out! The bug that was creating holes in the level should now be fixed.
@HotBoxGames Works on my end. I'll change it if more people complain i guess :/
@fafastudio Yeah, especially with the graphics, I literally did all of them in like 4 hours. Also, I'll try to get some music for the next LD.
@Dohxis IDK man, I just hit the build button, rest is up to Unity :/
@dkilford Yeah, I'll experiment more in the future. Also, the 'cone enemies' block all incoming damage if you are too close, unless you have a knife. All other weapons have the range to take care of them.
WTF
Very solid game. It might be worth developing a full version in the future, but for a LD game, I think it will score very well. Good job!
I took the easy way out with procedural level generation. Your algorithm seems a lot more complex. Do you mind adding the source code? I'd love to learn from what you did! :D
Pros:
-interesting approach to a story driven game, reminds me of Telltale games
Cons:
-seems very minimalist for a jam entry
-there's a typo in the introduction
-some of the events have 3 lines and you get like 5 seconds to read them and make a decision
Overall, it seems like you just ran out of time and you had 72 hours. Maybe it's your first time participating, in which case you did pretty well. Good luck on the next LD! :D
Use "Screen.showCursor = false" in the future. Also, some stars are bugged. Other than that, the game is too simple, even for a compo entry and the "Hold Alt to look" thing feels like it's there just so you can have a second button, because there is no reason not to look when you move the mouse. Good luck on the next LD, I'm sure you learned a lot from this one :)
Good cannot be defined without evil... Nice entry, I hope you score well in the "Mood" category.
As a side note, you should have randomized the animation speed on the houses, so the eyes aren't synchronized. Something like
Animator anim = GetComponent<Animator>();
anim.speed = Random.Range(0.5f, 1f);
That level design is so evil...
An options menu would be nice, especially to change the resolution, since some of these patterns are really hard to see at the default resolution. Other than that, I really liked the concept. This is a very original game for sure.
I can't tell if the writing is intentionally bad, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Also, there is no options menu, not even for the resolution. I don't know much about Godot Engine, but one would think that there is a "Screen.SetResolution" somewhere in there.
10/10 - "Better than No Man's Sky" - IGN
On a more serious note, the graphics were really nice and the music was relaxing. You should have added a scoring system based on distance traveled and maybe you could have added some pickups that give you more points just to make it more interesting, but overall, a really nice entry!
You are missing some basic things like a level selection screen and a pause menu. Other than that, not much to say. Solid entry!
Great entry! I really like the light effect you came up with and the puzzles were pretty interesting. Adding a time limit is debatable, because you can set things up the way they were in like 10 seconds, but I guess the game needed a fail condition.
The music is really cool. Other than that, not much to say, because the concept is really simple.
@edve98 Oups! My bad! It's fixed now!
I looked at your project and noticed that the hearths are literally 2D sprites attached to the camera. I don't know why you would ever want to do that, but they're supposed to be under "Canvas", just like all your UI elements. Speaking of UI, make sure you understand anchors https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/UIBasicLayout.html 99% of the time you want your anchors to be at the corners of their respective UI element, otherwise it won't scale with resolution.
As a side note, I listened to that "Spooky scary skeletons" song while playing and it made the game more comical than it was supposed to be lol.
Puzzle games seem very popular this time around, and this one is by far the most original I've seen so far. The only complaint that I have is that moving is kind of annoying when there are a lot of doors around. I think WASD movement would have been better. Apart from that, great job!
You messed up the resolution settings. There's no 1920x1080
@loktor Thanks for the review! The HP is in the top left corner
To everyone complaining about the crashes, I have no idea what causes it. It's completely random as far as I can tell, and it's not a memory management issue, so just bear with it I guess...
@mat4dor Thanks! You start with a random spell and you are stuck with it for the round.
wtf
Input gets stuck if you die. You probably forgot to reset some static variables :P Other than that, great job! You'll score pretty high in the graphics and audio categories.
My finger hurts :joy: BTW, the resolution settings are messed up(no 1080p setting)
