LD36 — Ancient Technology

Archimagic by onyon 2016-08-29T11:39:00

Nice art, very difficult, though. I'm not sure how you're supposed to dispel/evade the floor rays and I feel like the projectiles are a tad too accurate. I love the pixels a lot, the beast particularly looks amazing.

Defend Earth From Ancient Asteroid by burnedkirby 2016-08-29T11:52:00

Fun to play and that's the key thing, innit? I wish you had made something like a parallax scrolling background, like some stars, to create the illusion that the asteroid is heading towards Earth, it would maybe add a feeling of urgency to the whole scene. Also, perhaps the asteroid should move left and right as well, because as it is you may just lock your mouse onto it and mash space while only paying attention to evading the projectiles. As everyone is saying, solid music. Keep up the good work!

Dolus by kndx123 2016-08-29T16:54:00

I like the final message, which I'm not gonna spoil for the others, but the web related effect was really quite spooky. I think one or two more puzzles would perhaps draw the player in a bit more and help build up the final surprise. The graphics are very simplistic but they get the job done. Anyway, you made a complete product and that's what counts!

Ancient Darkness by ursagames 2016-08-29T15:46:00

A very nice little game! I love the way you handled camera movement, it's very smooth and barely noticeable and that is the most important thing about graphics. I really wish you had bound turning to either the mouse or right analog, so that it would be independent of your walking direction, because at the beginning it's really quite awkward, especially since the mouse buttons do things related to where you're looking. Also, rolling shouldn't be the fastest method to get around, even if there is the whole stamina element. If you want to make a roll to be fast enough to get out of the way of incoming attacks maybe add a few frames of recovery at the end, so that running is still faster(like in Dark Souls). But, on the plus side again, very coherent in style and it looks amazing. I also like that you have to put down the torch to defend yourself(reminds me a bit of The Cave, when you can also carry 1 item an you must put it down in places). Brilliant lighting effects. Very nice game!

PS. I couldn't die to the boss. My health went down to a tiny bit and stayed like that while I persevered to mush my face into him and hack my way through to victory. You should probably look into that;).

Hippie Horde by Spinach_Chicken 2016-08-29T16:28:00

PLOT HOLE: The generator is a fixed point in time.

More difficult than it seems at first! cool concept and very nice graphics, I'd love some animations of the generator being destroyed, though. Also, I feel that if everything moved a little faster(the hippies and the gun alike) the whole thing would be more fun and have a little more replay value. Think about a mobile port, this sort of game could do really well on Android or iOS. Well done!

Cat-O-Pult by Sun-Wukong 2016-08-29T17:04:00

See, people, this, THIS is well-made FUN! It's funny, it's cute, it's very well-animated, the idea is cool and the execution is on point. If I had to complain about something, perhaps moving the cursor to the edge of the screen should move the camera as well as the direction keys. Bravo, creator, nice work!

PS. It reminded me of an old Flash game, Cat-A-Pult, is that why you used the "O" instead of "A" in the middle? Very different tone to this, though.

@ursagames Oh yeah, I can see the resemblance. Thanks for the comment!

@JustASHadow To tell the truth, I know close to nothing about Unity's built-it UI. I wasted a huge chunk of development time on figuring out how to make OnClick() work properly. Also, UI is usually the last thing I do in a project and I had a major UI-related crisis at about 2:30 am, and didn't have time to fix and test it properly and it kind of shipped in its very raw state. I'm very thankful for your comment, though, I'll read up some and next time I'll do the UI properly.

@blinry Yes, there is another hole in the ground to the left of where the skeleton stands and another room with what I hesitate to describe as "story conclusion". Also, there are two ways you can go through the second stage and one of them has more enemies than the other one. Other than that, there's nothing more, glad you liked it!
