| 3 | indigo | Paper Planes | samdemaine | ♥ 17 | ~~This user has repeatedly updated the compo version of the game without leaving a changelog. This is not bugfixes either, it's actual content upgrades. By the rules, this is clear cheating, and he was informed of this by other contestants and kept doing it anyway.~~ (EDIT: see below.) In addition, he has repeatedly spammed people (including me) to do a "rate-for-rate", which is just additional cheating. Untitled.png I left a one-star review and will ping @pov. EDIT: I have been contacted by @samdemaine about this and he has promised to link to the original compo-version from now on, as well as incorporate a changelog for when he includes an HTML5 version, which his compo version didn't support. He also says he didn't intend to trade good votes, only play people's games if they played his in return. I'll leave you as the judge here. |

How even?!?! 💯 The cutscenes, the atmosphere, even how the camera pulls back to reveal more of key areas are really nice. The visual are spot on and incredibly detailed. A Jam entry like this shows me just how valuable a level designer is in making a game world spring to life. This has so much love and oozes style. Good! ----- - 🏅 best entry I have played so far - this is a REAL GAME. - 🏅 lovely take on the theme, with simple game mechanics but some thinking involved - 🏅 the world (gradually?) seems to grow darker the more you die, that was amazing - 🏅 the amount of assets that was created in just this jam is amazing! 5 stars in graphics - 🏅 the little world is really nice and detailed - 🏅 waterfalls! - 🏅 beautiful soundtrack, voiceover, all important events have sounds Better? ------ - ➕️ you could make the experience even more pleasant by giving slightly more elasticity to the camera follow - ➕️ sometimes the camera can't see an important thing, it's part of the mechanics but ... the feels. - ➕️ sounds near the arrows and flame throwers would add to the immersion. - ➕️ a single ambient waterfall audio source would take the players on an even deeper journey. - ➕️ there are two game binaries in that build, keep those folders clean ✌🏽 Overall the most impressive game jam entry I have played in a while. You folks really know your trade, and I must tip my hat to you! |

First off, there are a few people here saying this kind of game is mostly possible because you have a large team. This is a misconception, I can't stress enough how a a 15 man team is INCREDIBLY hard to pull off. I've done LD with ~13 people a number of times and I know it takes good leadership, communication, systems, and teamwork to do something like that. Hell, brainstorming alone can take hours depending on the personalities involved. A large team is great for a normal project, but under the jam time restrictions it can be chaotic. Big kudos to you all! I'd love to hear how you structured your team (whether in a blog post or here). How do you all know each other? Did you have a leader or was the direction spread across multiple people? Were you able to get most of what you wanted in or did you have to cut a lot of content? I'm very curious because I was always trying to improve my team's game quality, but since other teams don't get this big I didn't have anyone else to learn from. As for the game, like others here I am not a fan of horror games or movies. At all. However, because it was a 2d platformer with good controls, that gave me a lot of confidence. I thought "ok well, I'm good at these games, so even if something jumps me I can handle it. That eased my fears quite a bit and I could play it nearly at my normal comfort level. While the enemies were scary and dangerous, I did feel myself improving each death. I started to understand their AI over time "oh crap they can jump!" and where they tend to spawn. I game over'd the first time, but beat it on my first try after I tried again. In some ways I was relieved the game is relatively short. I was afraid I was gonna have to go through that entire first section again if I died. Very well done game. Tbh when I see art that good and clean, I actually get skeptical about if the gameplay can match. This is not the case here. You have a solid project all around, and I hope to see 20 people in the credits next time ;) ss3.JPG |

I really admire that you guys apparently made a roll animation for the fail state, it looks great. |
| 13 | DS Nahogara | Resurrection | etrealjunior | ♥ 10 | Awesome game, i completed it, it fits really great the theme of the jam, graphics are amazing and the soundtrack is a blast. On of the best i played on the jam! Congrats m8! ❤️ PD: At first that's what i was thinking.. Sadly the developer has been spamming every game entry with his game.. You do not deserve this attention even if the game is good. Sad. Very sad for real. PD2: There's games at level of this one, that are not being seeing because of this spam stuff, show some respect to the other ludum dare users please. |
| 14 | Jack I | Resurrection | etrealjunior | ♥ 10 | This game is pretty fun but, maybe don't self promote on other projects. |
| 15 | ZoranSter | Resurrection | etrealjunior | ♥ 10 | @etrealjunior Please stop advertise spamming your game on every other game, this is a scummy way to get people to review your game. |
| 16 | ZEST_is_BEST | Resurrection | etrealjunior | ♥ 10 | Hey dude, please stop copy pasting the same message on every game to get likes on your game. At least personalize your messages to prove you've actually played the games you're commenting on. |
| 17 | Squeed Fingars | Resurrection | etrealjunior | ♥ 10 | I thought the game was very well put together, although perhaps it was a bit slow at times, and I didn't see the point in attacking the ants in the second mini-game when they could just as easily be jumped over. To me it felt like it would fit better as a cheesy artistic animation as opposed to a video game, not that it wasn't fun to play through the first time. Overall I think this is a decent entry, very well polished especially when compared to others. However, what I don't appreciate is the lazy manner in which you have gone and advertised this entry on other people's pages by copying and pasting a generic response instead of leaving constructive responses, I saw your exact same comment everywhere. It most certainly worked in getting your entry to be one of the most rated entries, and really I think it just shows that the ranking system for this game jam is flawed. I remember reading that entries with more rankings are more likely to be ranked higher, which is fair, but perhaps this increase in ranking bias could be limited to perhaps 50-100 ratings? Not limiting number of ratings, just limiting how much the number of ratings effects final ranking. Just to help give some other games a chance, as from what I have seen it clearly isn't true that "the most fun games will end up at the top", especially when we are talking about there being over 3000 entries, it is all about exposure, exposure which many times perhaps could be done very cheaply. Of course you need to advertise your entry somewhat, giving it a good thumbnail, nice presentation, etc, I don't have a problem with that, when it is done appropriately. It seems you have still rated a lot of games, more than most, and I assume that many of those responses are genuine, I commend you for that. Just next time please relax with the self-promotion, even just asking people to play your game in a comment after you give a small amount of feedback, especially with how many you have rated, would give you plenty of ratings without appearing lazy, you are not the only person doing this, I just don't think the effortless self-promotion was all necessary and is just discouraging for some to see, including for myself. Regardless of my post-jam complaints, congratulations on getting through the jam with a solid entry! I still feel this was a solid entry, perhaps not the most exciting to play through, the gameplay is pretty mundane, but it looks very nice and the cutscenes are put together very well, and the art style all fits together great! I was slightly confused when I started playing the game, I thought it was a steaming loaf of bread falling and wasn't sure if I was controlling the seed or the birds, haha, but I got it once I went through the loop and saw the setup. That's all I really have left to say, I don't mean for anything I said to be taken as an insult, just as a blunt observation. I hope I'll see you around for the next LD, as clearly you know what you are doing! I know this is ironic, but I'll call it fair since I typed a ton. I am almost at 20 ratings for my entry, I would appreciate it if anyone wants to check it out! |
| 18 | Teto | Resurrection | etrealjunior | ♥ 10 | It really is a shame that you couldn't be like the rest of the community and do your equal part in leaving good, honest feedback on the games you play since this is a solid entry. I really like the art style and colour which, combined with the audio, creates a really nice mood and atmosphere. The theme was done well too. Some constructive criticism I may have for it would be to maybe make the first level shorter as it seems unecessarily long, possibly add a little more vertical challenge into the platformer level as it would mix things up a little more, and also, you could make the last level a little more challenging by maybe making the flowers smaller or something. These are just small criticisms for a game well done overall. After reading the previous comments, I know I don't need to say again, but I hope you've stopped the spam and left genuine feedback on the games you've played now. If you are unable to manage your time efficiently, consider playing fewer games and leaving good feedback on those as this pushes you up further than purely rating loads of games anyway. This is a community that I am relatively new to and I have been overwhemed by how friendly and helpful everyone is so it's a shame to have someone acting in a way that is so disrespectful. I hope you can learn from this. Great game though and a solid submission. Well done. |
