classic style, classic gameplay, a nice combo!
great work, and a funny concept!
this was really fun, played it live on a stream with someone else, we kicked ass.
The friendship mechanic feels a bit unpredictable and hard to manage, but I enjoyed the challenge and innovative idea!
I enjoyed the game, wish there was some audio though. The level design was clearly done with some care about making it challenging, which I enjoyed.
looks cool but the link to the windows one is broken.
i dig it, the explosion when you die was a nice touch. controls were pretty smooth.
I'm afraid this can't really be called a game since there's no win condition... but what content was there I enjoyed.
beautiful art, I enjoyed it :)
@antnionp pixel art was done using aesprite by our awesome pixel art team @kyle-kaehler and @lauren-kaehler. I helped a little too ;)
I laughed, I died, good job!
fun and frantic! there were moments where it seemed like i was trying to grab a piece and because a whale was dropping it cancelled the action. would be cool if you could get a move in and somehow cancel the whale if you were fast enough... otherwise awesome!
speedpacker.jpg I laughed a lot, and got angry at a beach ball. great game, would play again.
fun game. I would have enjoyed it more with a mouse instead of a touchpad.
I watched this on a stream, I enjoyed it! great job.
Screen Shot 2018-08-14 at 3.45.20 PM.png this was a great game. Simple to understand, challenging, and I really enjoyed the soundtrack!
The game my team and I made actually has some similar themes, though our gameplay is very different...
this was fun and challenging... I love that 3 keys I use ALL THE TIME for gaming were suddenly impossible to remember which was which because I remembered them by touch not letter.
this was a fun game. Controls were very smooth and I enjoyed the challenge. Only thing I wasn't clear on was the scoring system or how I lose... it was tough to understand that part.
I enjoyed this one. I can honestly say this is the first game I've ever played where your lives are measured in decimals, you have 10 lives by default, and your lives can regenerate... an interesting take!
a neat concept and cool lighting. wish there was a bit better controls and collision.
I had fun playing this! challenging enough and plays smoothly. It seemed like it was hard to finish with more than $20 though.
really solid entry! I quite enjoyed beating it. controls took some getting used to though...
this was really fun and cute. great job!
Fun, beautiful, and a real challenge! I could see this getting some additional tech around reacting to the audio and it'd be worthy of steam or a console experience.
this was really engaging to play, and wholly unique! thanks for making it :)
the aim system was really precise, almost the point that it was hard to play. good job given the time you had though!
felt like a space game for sure, nice graphics. I wasn't really sold on the theme as much but still cool.
nice game, enjoyed the clean style of it.
@very-high-ping I had this issue as well, please try copying the URL and pasting it into a new browser window. **update** The URL has been fixed!
graphics: Don Hertzfeldt would be proud. Music: Playful and appropriate. Sound effects: As a dad, I had flashbacks. Gamplay: a bit tough to grab things effectively but otherwise a solid concept.
I especially enjoyed the beautiful background image! gameplay was fun and just the right amount of challenging. I had the most fun figuring out a way to cause items to drop in and then roll out endlessly... not the actual game but it was fun anyways :P
Solid game! I found you on twitch and thought I'd check out your game. simple concept and was fun.
Solid game. I beat it, and enjoyed the challenge.
cool game, wasn't really sure about what made it fit the theme, though.
enjoyed this :) nice speed and action.
fun concept and the sound was fitting for the art style!
simple concept, plays well, music was a bit loud but otherwise solidly done :)
this was addicting as hell. thanks for making it!
solid all-around entry! I especially liked that you took the time to make a tutorial.
music was appropriately nerve racking lol! decent gameplay, challenging enough to make me try a few times in order to succeed.
I felt emotionally connected to the mushrooms and the tree as a result of being in first person mode. My only gripe is that the shrooms would wander into the distance sometimes, leaving me high and dry from other angles. overall, great entry!
I enjoyed the graphics quite a bit, excellent use of a limited palette, and your art style was simple but effective.
Cool entry :) I enjoyed the fast pace and found the forest area to be progressively more difficult to navigate which made it a real challenge.
nicely done! I was reminded of games like cool spot and bubsy but yours had better controls :). I didn't hear any sound though :(
nice art! the gameplay was tricky but I enjoyed playing a few rounds.
I played it, and I "helped these student look their best!". it was funny and felt low stakes and light hearted which is great. nicely done!
Solid game. the limited ammo forced me to make decisions about how to use it.
simple concept, VERY clean/polished graphics, gameplay is a good proof of concept, could see this being finished up and put out on steam for kids :)
solid entry. smooth, fast paced and funny.
@paulsams sorry you had a rough time. Everyone else who has played and reviewed seemed to understand that you can explore the whole ship if you discover the right things while exploring. Clickable object highlights is something we know could have been better. If you do end up trying it again, I encourage you to read carefully and explore, it is possible to see the end, which it's clear you did not.
@wouter52 thanks for playing! yes it was our intention to mix 2d and 3d from the outset. Our dev showed me a sample of this mixture prior to the dare and I was instantly into it!
@paulsams Given the time constraints, we were only able to introduce some training. For example, there's no barrier to exiting the first room except finding the panel and clicking it. Then, the next room requires a key which you can easily find right next to the panel. After that, the game begins to ask you to think outside of the box a little, and mainly I think this area could do a better job of showing you that there's an upper level to float to. So you see, we do have progressive training, it just isn't as refined because... well... it's a jam game.
Regarding the weightlessness mechanic being a hindrance, this is absolutely intentional. It is perfectly timed to the music so that you can feel it coming after a while, and that introduces a small sense of panic if you're trying to do something that would be hindered by it.
Remember: You are a civilian waking unexpectedly into a chaotic situation, much of which is out of your control at first, and by the end, if you win, you overcome these obstacles.
We could have made a standard side scrolling platformer with like a 10second flashlight or something but this gravity mechanic forces you to think about timing when going up to the 2nd level, and to win, you must go up and down at least twice.
@paulsams it's really telling that the only positive thing you've been able to squeeze out has been dragged out of you when your pretty obviously negatively skewed critique is questioned.
Your assumptions about the way we got to where we ended up are pretty narrow and shows an inability to imagine people complexly. We have a dedicated sound guy who took time to consider a specific mood and style; something that others have found pleasing enough to mention more than once.
I'm honestly done with this exchange as you have nothing useful in your observations and it feels as though you came to grind an axe rather than provide anything constructive.
none of your opinions were "how to improve your future projects". go back and read your own writing. You merely listed everything you feel we did wrong, without a single suggestion for improvement.
controls were a bit wonky but neat concept :)
oh boy. what to say what to say.... I played it, I chuckled, My kids chuckled, I was glad they couldn't hear the audio. nice one lol
as a former barista this brought back some unpleasant memories, but that proves you did a good job immersing the player in a pretty decent sim game. nice one!
nice, clean graphics, though I wish there was more depth to the environmental art. music was a bit loud and repetitive, but overall it played well and was challenging :)
i love it. feels very vintage. I can see why you didn't include ratings for sound LOL. I enjoyed the timing mechanic for interatives as well. nicely done!
really enjoyed this one. great polish all around! will play again.
Graphics are cohesive and simple, and the animations matched appropriately. The elemental mixture idea has been done in tower defense games before, but it worked well here as it was easy to understand and adjust. I enjoyed the more advanced combos, but thought that there was no reason (maybe other than dev time) to have 'invalid' combos. Perhaps a shield or fire rate increase? It felt to me like the 10sec mechanic served as a sort of timed turn-based combat, which could be a great way to introduce a sense of urgency. I played the official dare version so at the end of the game I was not able to fight the final boss. The sound effects were absent but I did like that you could adjust the sound volume for the music. Overall a solid entry with a decently complex concept.
^that's how you critique somoene's hard work.^ Have a good one!
you did not give advice under my game. You basically said "it sucks" in a lot of overintellectual ways. It's funny how if my game isn't perfect in it's core mechanic you want to spend 6 paragraphs saying how un-fun it is and essentially shit on it without a single bit of "advice" as you put it... advice would be a suggestion of any kind, which you have not provided in all of your ramblings. But when I mention an issue with your core mechanic, it's no big deal because you didn't have time...? You're right, it IS no big deal, and NOBODY had enough time. None of this was meant to produce AAA masterpieces, and I believe you understand that, despite your extremely harsh approach when critiquing others. In future, here is some ADVICE: Focus on finding something (anything) good to include in your critique, as it shows you really gave it some thought. Then, when pointing out flaws or areas that caused friction for you, maybe start by assuming the team KNOWS their game isn't perfect (because that's not the expectation), and include your thoughts in a way that give room for practical improvements. Your comments thus far have not included anything directly actionable, just "it sucks" essentially.
Honestly, the only reason I'm still engaging with you is in the hopes that you're learning something from this exchange. You sound like you think a lot about game design, but you express it by belittling others rather than lifting them up. I'm hoping this will serve as a revelation so that you can improve that.
Solid game, great graphics and smooth gameplay! I'd probably have a better time not using a touchpad...
not bad, the lever wouldn't trigger a reset for me sometimes which was kinda frustrating.
solid game, I enjoyed it. tough part was wanting to go fast but being unable to see which ones were fake in the distance which lead to a lot of trial and error play.
wonderful. very fun, and I could see this being fully developed!
solid entry, the music was a bop and I never got annoyed by it.
I gave it a try but when I upgrade my units the number of mobs that spawn causes the game to chug super hard. neat idea but I think the theme integration was a little strangely done.
141 seconds alive on my first run, nicely done! only critique is that the music is a little too repetitive.. maybe a... 10 second loop instead? :)
excellent art style and it all looked cohesive. Fast paced and a decent platformer. Solid entry!
really fun and addictive! great concept and I love the little touches like the eyes always looking at the fridge.
really fun and challenging. I'm super thankful that you added that chunk to help me know what the top and bottom of the ship was... man is space disorienting!
this is a cute reference to a game that is largely about delivery :)
checked this out. frantic and easy to get the hang of, thanks for your submission!
solid game! frantic in the right ways :)
nice controls and a solid concept. the framerate dropped dramatically anytime I looked at the many particle emitters, but it wasn't unplayable. Probably just needs optimization in that area :)
I died, but i died as a wolf, so it's okay.
solid game and the leaderboard kept me coming back. Only gripe I have is that the pickups are few and far between and really easy to miss.
yay! another mother's day themed game. Our's is also about mother's day, just not becoming a mother ;) I'll play this when I'm at a windows machine and rate it!
awesome job! our's is also mother's day themed, just not baby-focused ;)
nice game, very polished. A lot more challenging than it looks.
@krassenstein awesome job making the vod of your stream! very organized.
Screenshot 2023-05-02 at 11.34.22 AM.png definitely has the vibe of the dinosaur game in chrome, but with more fun and humor. I love the sound effects, and the randomization of the level made it a really replayable experience.
great game. really impressive!
I'm not a fan of roguelikes (because I suck at them) but I do enjoy how you fit it into the theme. The controls are simple and the modeling is really cohesive and nice to look at!
found the above mentioned bug also, but I wanted to complement the modeling and lighting work!
the MSpaint graphics are matched only by the mouthed sound FX. great job!
solid entry! controls were a bit sensitive but overall nice.
solid entry, very polished!
fun game, controls are a bit clunky but i love the graphics and overall mood.
very cool little game. nice mood and some challenging puzzles!
it took me like 8 tries to get passed the tutorial portion and here's my main observation: when the player is on the edge of the platform they are still colliding with it but it's treated as falling and you are unable to jump. this happened to me multiple times making it near impossible to keep up with the movement of the level. Still, I enjoyed the challenge :)
i got the pizza home! nice mood and solid graphics for a date :)
fun game, I think I got the hang of it towards the end... thanks for sharing it!
what a journey.... you really took me with you emotionally on this one. overall the narrative is what stood out, rest was simple. Music was pretty decent too.
jarofbugjuice.jpg
really enjoyed it! basically fruit ninja but the enemy AI made for some nice variety and the goo physics were great without feeling out of place in the overall art style.
"It was sometime into the slaughter when I wiped the sweat and blood from my brow, sighing gently with a feeling of peace, when I heard them... 'but how?' I cried. The sound was coming from the one place my bullets had not penetrated... behind the old fridge. Peering into the dark corner, I finally got a closer look at them... they were just... lil fellas... lil pink fellas... what had I been doing?! and then something about their sound... their strange movements triggered a gut reaction... i dropped a grenade and stood back.. finally, it was over. Or so I thought..."
Fun lil game with a silly mood and on point for the theme!
@ratking119 @spoons Web version isn't working but windows version is!
@parxer if you make it till the end of night (about 5mins) the game gets progressively more difficult but it will end with a success screen and a global leaderboard!
@heiden-bzr our session time may be too long... but if you continue to play you'll notice the storms subside and it becomes lighter outside until finally the level finishes!
@heiden-bzr totally understandable! The storm does clear and the sky does grow lighter but since the session time is 5mins it's easy to miss the subtle changes. thanks for the feedback! I definitely agree more indicators would be better... it was planned but we ran out of time :(
@xparker we want to try but there's a texture issue that takes a while to fix for itch.io version so not sure it'll come soon... sorry!
Frog voice is my fav lol.
nice energy with this game, kept me moving which I like. graphics were campy in a good way, reminded me of a late 80's pc game.
Solid game! targeting and holding onto objects was a lil unreliable but otherwise great.
very fun and addicting. I plan to actually beat it when I have more time.
nice art and the game was decently fun. I found a bug where if the wizard dies while you have one of his cards drawn it gets stuck in that state.
really enjoyed this. nice overall vibe! I never quite understood the variation in rules but I found myself not caring because it was fun to just see what was possible in real time.
i had fun flying around though on the web version my mouse wasn't taken over by the game so steering was tricky... otherwise enjoyed it.
neat concept using 360 photos. you could probably find a way to do looping video to bring the scenes more to life, or spacial audio for like birds and water. overall though a neat idea.
music was a lil repetitive but that sorta matched the style... nice overall art and gameplay
what I like is that you have a lot of features you'd expect from a complete game. tutorial, progress markers, cinematics, a proper menu system. Gameplay wise it still feels rough but that's understandable! great work.
I really love this because it took a trope and applied a thoughtful and realistic scenario around it. It made me smile, and not because I was laughing, which is rare in gaming.
enjoyed it! a unique take on strategy in the form of a dungeon crawler. I could see even more features like adding powerups that you have to toss your teammates onto etc...
i beat it... not really on theme but i chuckled regardless
super cute! took me a min to figure out the controls but once I did it was easy to play and really straightforward. artwork is super cute :)
really nice lil game you made there. especially enjoyed that spacebar, a key normally associated with jumping was used to accelerate you downwards.
@raynorr what browser are you using?
@raynorr huh... well I know it'll work on Chrome if you happen to have that... firefox might be having an issue with the sounds based on how much is loaded.
@someone you're correct, after lvl 16 the game goes into "high score mode" to see how long you can last... I've rarely heard of anyone getting as high as you did, nice job :)
@ronalchue thanks! yeah we had an even tighter schedule for this dare because of other obligations over the weekend so we opted for a super simple gameplay mechanic.
nice little mix of a drilling game and a cooking sim!
took me a bit to figure it out and the controls were a bit hard to predict, but the graphics are cute and the main character animations are really nicely done!
mood is great, graphics are well-done. very cool that you made this all on your own!
cute game! took me a min to figure out the objective but very nice graphics.
pretty solid rhythm game and totally on theme! graphics are solid and so is the sfx/music.
hard game... clean graphics and easy to understand the goal :)
I always knew I could do it.
funny game, love the homage to 90's cd rom titles.
enjoyed it, had a lot of fun once I got the hang of it. great work!
I really enjoyed exploring around pinging for items to pick up. combat was simple as well. especially enjoyed that you can roll your orientation, nice touch!
enjoyed it, some nice touches like teleporting to your ship if you end up unable to get back on easily. has a nice mood to it, good work!
never woke up but got really close, nice art and enjoyed experimenting with the mechanics!
I chuckled, I rolled a joint, I smoked it, and also I played this game.
very well executed! i've seen games sell on PlayStation that feel less finished/polished :)
neat lil game, didn't load on ldjam.com so i went to itch and it worked fine. controls are super responsive and that's a good thing because yikes it gets hairy fast.
moody, cool art style. I think I won a round but still didn't quiet get the rules of the game... overall nice!
the animations and overall art vibe was fun, gameplay was decent if a bit wonky at times. nice job!
solid game, love how silly the puns are.
not bad, controls really felt like space!
@100th-coin thanks so much for making a video of your experience!
thanks @archimagus We really put most of our time into the core gameplay loop so yes there's quite a few annoying bugs in the UI :( thanks for playing and for you feedback!
@d3kryption thanks so much for the kind review!
I'm not entirely certain it loaded right since I was able to drop coins straight into the x3 with no resistance... I added some stuff just to make it interesting after a while :) Overall enjoyed the graphics and it's a nice, easy concept.
plinko.png
a good start. controls were simple and smooth, just needed to see the gameplay loop to really get it and I never quite saw it.
pretty nice lil game! controls were smooth and easy to understand... wish the bullets were a little easier to see.
really enjoyed it, and definitely felt that "Frenzy" in the later challenges. It is especially fun for people who enjoy pixel art :)
I did manage to get stuck (see image) but overall I enjoyed the game and felt compelled to beat my high score a few times! bugdriverbug.png
not bad for your first go at it! keep it up :)
solid platformer, though the "powers" were a bit funky to properly utilize on the 2nd level... kinda just got stuck.
