Can't really play it since I'm on a mac. Maybe a web-build be a good idea?

xerozylir 2018-08-14 19:40

You forgot to make a executable

plukers 2018-08-14 19:41

Hey, great game! It looks fantastic, really nice. The style and the modells look very polished. The gameplay itself is a little bit repetetive and I thought it is very hard. I propably missed anything, but I was not once able to get to another planet. But all in all a great submission!

The mood and feeling this game creates is awesome. Its very cool how the planet slowly shrinks and at first you almost dont notice it until all the red cubs appear more and more frequent. The whole game has a great feel and I love how simple and clean the game felt. You choose a theme and stuck with it. Great job guys!

I love the atmosphere and music! You hit the mood perfectly! The art style is really quite good, and I love the voxel spaceship ! The gameplay is simple enough to understand quickly, overall great little game :D!

@earnso we decided to focus only in a build for Windows, becasue the timeframe for this challenge was really tight, but since we have now a little bit more, we are going to upload a WebGL release and add it to the Project description very soon.

jtoledo 2018-08-14 20:20

@xerozylir I'm pretty sure we didn't forgot to make an executable, if you download the file from the provided url, and decompress it (because is a zip archive) you can find the 'SpaceEscape_LD42_0.5.exe' file inside, which is in fact, the executable. I hope I have been helpful. Regards.

@plukers Without being too specific, the 'Main (intrinsict) goal' of the game is to get as many points as you can without losing all the energy from your spaceship, in order to accomplish that you get points and energy for every 'energy crystal' picked, if you fill your energy bar to 100% you open a portal to another planet. Every new planet gives you a points multiplier bigger than the previuos one, so it's correct to think to get to the new planet as soon as possible.

Everytime you picked and energy crystal, new energy crystals are spawned, also, 'bad crystal' (that depletes your energy bar) are spawned too, in order to balance the gameplay and make the game fit in the Challenge theme (Running out of space), also the planet shrinks itself a little bit every second.

About the repetitie gameplay, well, since is a short period of time for Game design, Development, Asset creation, Deployment, Community management and so on, we didn't had time to implement all the Game mechanics that we want, probably if the game has great reception from the community, we could keep adding interesting features to this game in the future.

I hope i have been helpful. Best Regards and thank you for playing our game, and we are really glad that you liked it! :)

@jtoledo Thanks for the explanation. I really thought that my goal was to go to as many planets as possible and that I must be really bad at playing because I didn't achieve this.

I hope my feedback didn't sound too harsh. I really enjoyed your game and love the look of it. I know that this is a game jam and the time is limited, so it's amazing what you have accomplished. I just wanted to provide some form of constructive feedback in case you further develop your project. It is a really great game you submitted :)

jtoledo 2018-08-14 21:52

@plukers not harsh at all, every comment or suggestion is really appreciated because it means that people are interested on our game, and your comment was really positive. At first we thought in implementing as many hand crafted planet as possible, but the time that we would spend on assets creation would be innecesary long, we tough also, on procedural planets, but we had to play test the game a while too, and since we are only two devs, we couldn't. Thats why we decided to make 3 planets, each one with different characteristics, to make the game enjoyable, and we balanced things in order to make planet number 3 (The ice planet) really interesting as a final challenge.

So again, thank you very much for your feedback, and we hope we could continue the development of this project. And if you play it again, feel free to post your high score, maybe after this tips you could be the next Planet Escape champion

Screen Shot 2018-08-14 at 3.45.20 PM.png this was a great game. Simple to understand, challenging, and I really enjoyed the soundtrack!

The game my team and I made actually has some similar themes, though our gameplay is very different...

A pretty simple concept, and I mean that in a good way.

On my first playthrough I died on the third planet only finding a single blue crystal after spawning there, I guess they're placed fully randomly? Just my bad luck. I scored 6400. On the second playthrough I had better luck on the third planet, and ended up scoring 20200 when the planet grew too small and I hit a bunch of red crystal that depleted me.

The graphics look pretty nice, but I feel there's some style inconsistencies with having a very voxel-looking ship on such a curved planet with round planets zooming by in the sky. The colours look pretty lush.

A solid entry!

I really enjoyed the graphic, even if it's too blurry for my eyes. Perhaps you could make it "clearer" when objects are just in front of the spaceship ? The music is maybe too repetitive and the size of the planet 3 too big ^^ Anyway, great job !

inferture 2018-08-14 23:16

Cool game, it had kind of a Sonic 3 special stage vibe to it ^^ the sound effects were nice and the theme was perfectly respected, I also liked the graphics, especially the background and the lighting (and the fact that each planet was different). It was also cool that the explanations were given during the gameplay and not in a long text before, that allows us get faster into the game. If I had to find a flaw, I'd say that the vessel was kind of slow, but I guess making it faster would've meant making it more difficult to control Anyway, keep up the good work !

ja-viera 2018-08-14 23:27

Interesting concept, I felt the space theme was a little forced. The game itself was fun, and regarding the graphics, I think you could have done better sticking to a simple color palette and not abusing so many camera effects... like too much blur and blooming everywhere XD

deprecat 2018-08-14 23:32

The text crawl working as a tutorial was a cool idea to keep the tutorial simple! Nice work

uncannyvalley 2018-08-14 23:59

This might be my favorite entry I've seen thus far- you absolutely nailed the theme, using running out of space as an actual mechanic that changes game-play instead of just window-dressing. Not only was it engaging, but bokeh effects were impressive for a game created that fast, and actually worked as a visual indicator of distance without having to think about it. The only very small criticism I have is that I feel like the planet shrinks a bit too slowly near the beginning- maybe have some kind of time curve that starts off faster and slows down the smaller the planet? I also understand, however, that you need to give players time to acclimate themselves. Fantastic!

team-gaivot 2018-08-15 18:31

Cool game man! I just wished the soundtrack was a bit more upbeat or intense. There are a few other features that would be good to have implemente, like more SFX and better visual indication of the portal that opens, but i understand you guys did this in 48h, so overall, nice work! =D
