Really calm, really relaxing, could see this being a great mobile game for sure!

8/10

jag 2022-10-04 04:09

I really love the name choice for this! The artwork is absolutely amazing! Simple and addictive to play

rage-paint-games 2022-10-04 04:27

@adamphoebe, @jag Thank you so much so glad you enjoyed it!

We came up with the name on the night before by looking up boat puns. XD

Pros : - Really feel polished - Presence of a tutorial (that can be skipped!) - Easy to understand - Music changes with the fourth hole and the defeat animation/music/screen - The defeat screen is beautiful (yes, that needed a point)

Cons / Feedback : - The throwing mecanic is a bit cluncky (played on PC - I had some starships never going down xD), but this is made up for by the forgiving hitboxes - The game is too easy (a higher difficulty is not always good, but with the ten second timing, if the hole is patched immediately, it's just a ten second wait untill the next interactive phase, and with nothing to do, it can get a bit boring). Maybe having less starships spawn or more holes per rock hit with (especially with a gradual augmentation) could make the game more engaging

Bug : - The game kept playing after reaching the end (the scrolling kept going on, with the boat taking damage, the starships spawning, the ability to fix the ship...)

rage-paint-games 2022-10-04 16:30

@melbadream Thank you so much for your thorough feedback - you clearly spent the time to see every aspect of the game (like purposely dying so you could see the defeat screen).

We had hoped to add different difficulty levels, but ran out of time at the end to implement them in. We wanted to have the starfish peel off after awhile (at random times), and also have seagulls puncturing holes in the sail on a different 10-sec interval than the rocks. In the end, we had to cut these things out of scope so that we could have a complete-feeling game, even if it was too easy.

Thanks for letting us know about the bug too! We oddly didn't experience this in our testing, so we'll have to play somemore today and see if we can replicate it and fix it. Appreciate you!!

simple concept, VERY clean/polished graphics, gameplay is a good proof of concept, could see this being finished up and put out on steam for kids :)

rage-paint-games 2022-10-04 21:30

@dominic-graziano Thank you so much! That's so kind of you to say that you could see this being a game for kids on steam! That's quite a compliment for us!

Nice jam game! The art is absolutely top notch (congrats to Signe) and the music is good as well. The game itself is fun albeit simplistic - more content and things, and/or difficulty levels, would be amazing. Congrats for submitting this game!

Great game! It took me a while to figure out how to properly throw the starfish, but once I did, I really enjoyed it! I managed to make it to the island!

melbadream 2022-10-05 17:35

@rage-paint-games You saw through me ahaha :D and those are nice ideas!

I wanted to add a bit on the bug, since it seems I found a rare occurrence (bugs love me...) : I think my end bug had something to do with having a starfish grabbed during the end, or throwing it before it ends and having it repair the boat after the supposed end. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I remember trying to fix the last hole right as the game ended, so it probably has something to do with it

rage-paint-games 2022-10-06 00:32

@jose-bonilla - (from Signe) Thank you so much for your kind words! Like every artist, I'm always my own worst critic and self-conscious of my work, and while I was happy with how this turned out I was also nervous. Your praise and feedback about the game is much appreciated!

@zerbu - We definitely noticed there's a bit of a learning curve for throwing the starfish. Perhaps a visual indicator would help people get a grasp of it sooner (like a dashed, arched line from the hand to the ship for the first throw). We're glad you enjoyed it and won!

@melbadream - After receiving your feedback, we figured it had to be something of that nature. We even witnessed the bug happen on a stream the other day -- it was truly funny to watch the ship crashing into the island. Plot twist! Thanks for giving us more information to go on the bug! We'll be hunting it down to squash it.

Hey! I've been cutting together videos of the games I played on stream, thanks for stopping by to show us Whatever Floats Your Boat! https://youtu.be/cbu3KZnDqik

Simple, but very polished entry. Love your graphic. The gameplay felt so smooth, had a lot of fun playing

savolae 2022-10-06 19:13

Simple and pretty, but I feel like it is a bit too easy and could have benefited from some extra variety. Still, the game looks and sounds nice and was pleasant to play, good job!

slothzilla-games 2022-10-07 01:46

Great little game! Fun music, beautiful graphics. A little easy I found but I'm sure with more time this could be fleshed out into a really good full game! Maybe some rocks could put 2+ holes in the ship later into the game

skvader-418 2022-10-07 21:39

While the game has great polish, graphics and voice acting there is a MASSIVE problem

It is ridiculousley easy. For a ludum dare game i expect games to be very hard, but this was too easy. In the end i was mainly messing around and trying to fling the starfish with my eyes closed

Other than that everything is spot on, just needs more difficulty

Hey, I got a request for an interview on my stream, but I can't send a message over Discord because we don't have a common Server. Are you still interested in an interview?

real-human-1000 2022-10-09 21:23

Great game! Art is very well-done and everything feels polished and professional. Gameplay is simple but unique and fun. Audio is also great. In the beginning it was very hard to know how far to move the starfish to throw it to the ship, but by the end I was an expert -- to the extent that there were plenty of fish and little challenge. Ramping up difficulty a bit by the end would be a good next step!

theheheo 2022-10-09 21:28

Felt like a very polished experience with nice graphics, sfx and a fun concept. This game felt like it would fit perfect as a mobile game.

halleester 2022-10-09 22:57

Took me a bit to get a hang of throwing the starfish but I breezed through the game once I got the hang of it! Game felt really easy and I got softlocked at the end because I hit a rock as it was autosailing me into the island. Liked the style though, think the game just needed more depth to make it more engaging. Good work either way though!

flyingkaida 2022-10-12 16:46

Fun and I loved that you added "pokemon go esque" controls to throw and patch the boat with the star fish. It was a little tricky to do, but it was really cool seeing this!

artofluba 2022-10-15 03:27

Good stuff! I can see this being a fun mobile game, and more levels/islands/stuff added to it. Barnacles would be fun. Really good graphics! I saw this on the ColeSlawski stream tonight. :)

Thanks for submitting your game to stream!

This was an absolutely lovely entry. The gameplay was simple, but unique, and the art style felt strangely nostalgic. Loved it!

euler-moises 2022-10-20 11:40

A little game. The graphic art and the soundtrack are very well done and combine very well. I find it difficult to control the strength to throw the starfish. Once I learned it was easy. I think it just lacked a little ending, even if just a static drawing symbolizing the end of the story.

Congratulations!

itsboats 2022-10-21 21:33

Fun game with amazing graphics, and the dynamic music changes based on the state of your boat was a really nice touch! It was a little bit too easy for me, but its often better to make jam games easier so its accessible for more players! I would have liked some more uses for the starfishes too just so there's more to do between those 10 second intervals like if there's pesky birds you can scare off by throwing things at them or some other things like that xD I found some extra challenge by throwing the starfish as high as I could and watching as they plug a hole a few seconds later hehe >:) Overall really fun and polished, the starfish latching on felt generous but still very satisfying :3!
