I really liked this! The level design was great - I loved how each set of checkpoints acted as its own little level, but everything was woven together in a way where it really felt like you were going on an epic journey. The death sound and animation were really satisfying too. Nice job!

clintor24 2025-04-07 02:26

Fun! I really enjoyed that. Simple but has some depth to it.

sam-flemington 2025-04-07 02:29

I liked it a lot! But I couldn't figure out the checkpoint after the underwater section, I kept getting stuck in the little pool of water right after it cause I couldn't stop my momentum :( But overall it was fun and I really appreciated how you introduced the mechanics one by one.

kukatoo 2025-04-07 02:33

The controls are tight, game is easy to understand, and has good juice / game feel. Great job!

rinevard 2025-04-07 02:45

I was always killed by inertia, but I love this game!

k1n 2025-04-07 02:51

Game is kinda cool, despite of the control system.

scott-r-howell 2025-04-07 03:10

I love this! An intuitive challenge that makes you really focus without feeling unfair. The visual style is lovely and novel, and the sound effects work so well! The music feels more obligatory than in theme with the rest of the game, but thats only a nitpick, really nice work, I'm still playing now, its got me hooked!

sweltj 2025-04-07 03:36

your ui is amazing! I love your player controller as well!

placeholders 2025-04-07 05:18

beautiful little gem! such a unique take on a platformer, I really like how you made the character controller and the overall feel. also the level design was good with great introduction at first and a challenge at the deep levels. great job!

follusior 2025-04-07 06:53

A great combination of platformer and retro style (you need to get used to inertia). Nice graphics and the most appropriate sounds, this is the first game that I rate on this jam, as well as my first Ludum Dare, and to be honest, I was incredibly impressed with it.

shiheuan 2025-04-07 07:11

Reminds me of Leap Year. The mechanics are rich and the levels are well designed. pretty cool.

wo-ri-gou-le 2025-04-07 07:32

Nice little game! I like how you decide to go with momentum + leap year(which is on the opposite, has 0 momentum), it's fun, and the idea is delivered within the levels' design, pretty cool.

around 1100m there is a hack to jump directedly into the water and escape a save point, that was cool lol.(Also too hard I cant make myself through that water cave that was painful

scrawach 2025-04-07 07:33

Good hit on the theme. Didn't expect going down into the cave to be so fun. Very cool!

lightningst 2025-04-07 07:37

@wo-ri-gou-le great job finding that skip! I found it while testing earlier today and decided to leave it in as a fun little speed-running technique. Also, I'm sorry the water cave was hard! I even widened some of the gaps while working on it yesterday. Was it the spikes above and below that got you, or the tunnel of wall spikes?

wo-ri-gou-le 2025-04-07 07:59

@lightningst I like the levels, what is hard is probably the learning curve, it's a bit stiff like retro 20th old games... And the water level is where this stiffs instantly high, like all of a sudden the levels became waters and all that gravity knowledges learned before were gone.

lightningst 2025-04-07 08:06

@wo-ri-gou-le I get what you mean. I had to make the acceleration on the character slow enough that the jump could be controlled (without giving any air control, or going the jump king route of charging up). I wasn't 100% sure about the water section, but I figured it would give a brief change-up from the regular stuff. After that it goes back to platforming.

chiyeon 2025-04-07 08:16

Overall great experience! Really loved the visuals/art style and overall presentation that really ties everything all together.

sevatoxin 2025-04-07 08:19

Great game, fun mechanics and rewarding. One minor thing to add: I personally did not like the water section because it took away of the jumping mechanic you learned on the way there. Otherwise really awesome game. Even found a shortcut one could take at around 1200m.

lightningst 2025-04-07 08:33

@sevatoxin I'm seeing that lots of people don't like the water section. I was hoping it would be a nice change of pace, and even adjusted the gaps while making it to be more forgiving. When testing I can usually get through that section without dying at all. Did I misjudge how difficult it is, or is it just not fun to have the jump taken away?

Also, what did you think of the dark matter section?

ntmalichi 2025-04-07 08:50

Not me dying on 685 while trying to touch the pole   Loved the game! glad to be your 20th review :)

sevatoxin 2025-04-07 09:06

@lightningst For me the water section was fine difficulty wise except the part where you maneuver through the spikes above and below you, however this is prob a skill issue on my side. In my opinion it was just the part of not using the thought through jump mechanic but instead a simple "hold space to float" one. This compared to the details you need to worry about when jumping (sliding off, carry momentum etc.) is lost in there and thus feels not rewarding. But because the section is short and not too hard it is indeed a nice change of pace and can be seen as a break between the halfes so it is by no means right out bad or something!

sypiac 2025-04-07 09:08

Fun little platformer! Made it to 1950 before the launchers got me. Gets my highest rating!

singer 2025-04-07 09:36

Thats funny, how I ignored first danger sign and died instantly :) Very cool and well done!

lightningst 2025-04-07 09:41

@singer I honestly put that there because I knew people would go that way just because of the sign. It was the best way for me to demonstrate death from impact XD

I made it! Man, it was hard! But I made it!

Very nice and accomplished game! Thank you!

nyxkn 2025-04-07 12:04

Really well executed! It all feels very polished. Great presentation. Controls feel good, and gameplay is as intuitive as it is frustrating :) Very frequent checkpoints was super welcome :D Very fun experience overall!

maxkaemmerer 2025-04-07 12:43

This was fun to play. Pretty challenging. Looks great. Really nothing negative to say

onngd 2025-04-07 12:47

The first couple of minutes I couldn't even do the simplest jumps. Then I tried to find some pixel on the left at the start to survive. I felt nostalgic about the graves from the worms. Cool

reecemungus 2025-04-07 13:20

Really hard but rewarding, I loved the CRT shader too!

headchant 2025-04-07 13:32

Infuriating! I love it.

lazycoffeepanda 2025-04-07 13:33

Love it

oadt 2025-04-07 14:24

107 Deaths in 22:22.01  That game really has potential! You managed to really hit the sweet spot of hard and somewhat annoying but also super satisfiying character controls! And you also managed to keep the gameplay fresh by introducing new mechanics. Fantastic work!

immortalfox 2025-04-07 15:20

Imagine doing a pull up every time you lose :) Great game!

pechedodue 2025-04-07 15:26

I had really fun time, love the gameplay and the art direction!! The physics were a little bit wompy (in a good way), loved it :>

outish 2025-04-07 15:26

A very difficult game, but in a good way. Dying felt like it was due to my own lack of skill rather than the game being unfair. However, the low-gravity section felt too hard for my taste and I couldn't finish it. Overall a very solid game which can easily be expanded into a full-release. 2576m

jcmonkey 2025-04-07 16:03

96 deaths, 21:33. for me the character felt way too floaty and slippery. control of your character in games like this is king, and i felt i had no real control of it.

lightningst 2025-04-07 16:15

@jcmonkey congrats on finishing the game!

I didn't want to add any air control for the jump, but I wanted more variety in obstacles. It's not a perfect solution, but I ended up lowering the acceleration to give more control of jump distance.

sayeg 2025-04-07 17:15

I got so immersed! love the glitchy colours too. got a bit too hard for me near the end but I enjoyed every second.

shakirovich 2025-04-07 17:23

Absolutely amazing. Great amount of variability, balance and challenge. Good job. Final2.png

shakirovich 2025-04-07 17:25

@lightningst I liked the controls, reminded me of game called "mosalina", it is what gives it most fun and challenge, I dont think you should make it more controlled, or precise, its perfect.

sviborg 2025-04-07 18:24

I really like the striped screen effect.

fusionnist 2025-04-07 18:32

Great work! Felt smooth and fun to play through this one, and I enjoyed the growing challenge. I had to stop 300 meters before the end, too much for me :p Loved it though! Cheers!

rustywolf 2025-04-07 19:32

thank god for checkpoints

Boy I enjoyed this game! Perfect amount of difficulty, nice atmosphere and fun to play! Congrats!

CleanShot 2025-04-07 at 15.12.54@2x.png

Really, really enjoyed this. Controls were spot on. Difficulty scaled nicely. Sounds were really satisfying. Death effect was really enjoyable. Really liked the variety in the terrain, especially the end.

I agree that the first water/spike navigation was a big spike in difficulty. Maybe placing the checkmark right underneath it would help ease the pain?

Only feedback I have is the propelling rocks+long jump. These felt a bit unintuitive as far as how much momentum they gave based on their speed. I wasn't sure how to time the jump in order to get the boost. Maybe consider leaving them out, especially since they're a one-off?

Great job!

lightningst 2025-04-07 22:52

@brittspace thank you for playing!

The propelling rocks are definitely a bit confusing. I wanted to add a tiny bit of upwards platforming just for fun, and that was what I ended up with. They don't actually push you, they are just moving platforms that add their current velocity to yours when you jump (or step off). While making them I had to slow them down and make the path they take longer to give you 0.4 seconds to make the jump opposed to 0.2 seconds. I definitely agree they could use another rework though.

When you say the first water/spike navigation, do you mean just the set of spikes underwater where they are on the ceiling and floor? And by right underneath it do you mean before or after, 'cause moving the checkpoint closer is a really great idea to make that part less frustrating!

anstabo 2025-04-07 23:03

The gamefeel is very addictive and you would think that not having an indication on the killing height threshold would be a bad thing, but it's not! I would love to play a full game like this that would explore it more with speed momentum platforming segments. Amazing job!

lightningst 2025-04-07 23:08

@anstabo When I first started working on the game I spent awhile brainstorming how to make a fall height indicator. I ended up realizing that designing the levels to be intuitive was much more important!

I also ended up basing the death off of the velocity direction and magnitude compared with the direction the surface you hit is facing, this makes it feel more fair, since sliding down a steep wall and hitting a flat floor are two very different things!

barnabewild 2025-04-07 23:12

Very challenging, the character is very floaty and when the is no velocity, it's hard to jump forward. had fun! well done!

2025-04-07 23:25

@lightningst Propelling rocks- I wish I had a video of me attempting it! I think it was the only place where the mechanic didn't click. At first their slow speed didn't make it look like they should actually boost me. Then I got it to work once, but couldn't repeat it. I think I mistakenly assumed they'd work like momentum platforms in Celeste, where you have a buffer of right when it extends and a few hundred ms afterwards to input the jump. So I just jumped into the spikes below a *lot*. 😂 If you want to keep them in, maybe that's a fix for the .2 sec vs .4 sec ... just include a buffer after they extend?

For the water/spikes– yes, the first part where they are on the sides and ceiling. It's the first place the game got difficult, I'd say, so I think a more forgiving checkpoint can go a long way without making the actual platforming too easy.

There were a few parts towards the end where I was really laughing/cursing the distance between checkpoints, but I think it was actually a really nice balance! Gotta work for it!

For some reason the simplicity of this reminded me of: https://daz.itch.io/apollo

Did any games inspire this?

haokai-xu-1999 2025-04-07 23:28

Remarkable! I really like your graphics and music, and the technical skill also seems practised.

I just downloaded your source code, I believe I can learn a lot from your design and implementation.

oxnh 2025-04-07 23:52

The visual style and art are sick but the super floaty movement is a bit of a let down. Maybe it's intentional but it just annoyed me, I'd rather have precise movement for a game where it's so easy to die. Also the drums in your music drown out any melody, they're too loud!

subsolar 2025-04-07 23:58

great game! i love how all the mechanics are slowly introduced!

0x-void-x0 2025-04-08 00:25

Oh man this was hard, I enjoyed the game a lot, the simple and engaging mechanics, the art style and the seemingly infinite playlist of music. It took some suffering and singing with the melody about how evil the dev is, but it was a solid experience, I'm curious what tool did you use to do the level design?

3.PNG

Also I feel like most players are going to get stuck here and not understand what to do but that's just a guess. 1.PNG

lightningst 2025-04-08 00:26

@brittspace it seems ldjam doesn't like links. The only game I really considered while making this was jump king. I've only ever watched others play it, but I wanted that feeling of helplessness after you leave the ground where you have to hope you lined your jump up correctly.

lightningst 2025-04-08 00:33

@oxnh really? I feel like the inertia is what gives the movement it's difficulty. Also, early on in the jam I had the acceleration much higher, but it made controlling velocity for jumps much more frustrating and finicky. Also, not sure what you mean about the drums? They may be a bit loud but in all my headphones they sound all right. What audio device are you using?

Edit: He's using sennheiser hd560s, so he's probably right. If I do a post-jam release I will definitely tone down the drums a bit.

oxnh 2025-04-08 00:36

@lightningst I'm using sennheiser hd560s they should be pretty accurate.

lightningst 2025-04-08 00:39

@0x-void-x0 I wrote a some classes that extend from Polygon2D. The most common one just adds a staticbody with a matching collisionpolygon, and a copy of itself with a different color as a shadow. It just adds both of these in its _ready() function. Not the most efficient, but it makes prototyping SUPER quick! The files you'll want to look at are classes/platform/platform.gd and classes/staticplatform.gd

0x-void-x0 2025-04-08 00:42

@lightningst that's genius! I was overcomplicating it in my head but this makes sense, thanks for sharing.

polymathld 2025-04-08 00:43

One of my favorites so far! I'm amazed at how great the level design is given how many different mechanics you packed in. The "putting fall damage into a physicsy platformer" thing was very amusing and worked well to add challenge. This is a game I could actually see the speedrunning community really getting into. The only real critique I can give is that I don't know if you _mechanically_ expressed the "depths" theme very well, though visually you certainly did a fine job. Great work, in any case!

chocolatedoodads 2025-04-08 01:14

preeety gyaauud vry hard tho me dei to much from the mincecraft falldamage

googlypoo 2025-04-08 02:06

score.jpg

This is very impressive! I actually liked it more without the music, I felt the subtle sounds went well with the constant fear of death  The launchers were the hardest part for me, I spent a long time doing it wrong and discovered there was a much easier way later on.

I went in expecting something much less polished. The gravestones where you die were a nice touch. I feel like you accomplished exactly what you were hoping for with this, well done.

mmayans 2025-04-08 02:59

The gravestones were a fun touch, and embarassing how many times i died. I liked the crt effect, and the simple style. I showed this game to my sister and she said she liked how the character looked like toad.

paprikaka 2025-04-08 05:43

silly humor game i loooooooooooove it

farzher 2025-04-08 06:34

great game! as for feedback, idk, maybe the respawn could be faster? especially after you've seen it 100 times .-. no real complaints though gg

villeloso 2025-04-08 06:34

Could not get past 2000, very good game. Love the fodian aspect of it

thisyc 2025-04-08 07:05

Nailed it. Such a good concept, falling on a platform - in no other platformer will this kill you, but it totally works in your game and fits the theme super well. You clearly know your level design, everything feels natural. I have to say 10/10 for me even though it made me so mad. descend.png

ibandurist 2025-04-08 09:06

This is an extremely enjoyable gaming experience! The interesting character movement mechanics based on inertia are great. I liked that in order to jump further, you actually have to physically accelerate. The old TV effect is very pleasing. Plus, the sound in the game is really nice, with a crunchy texture that complements the visuals very harmoniously. A special shoutout for the music!

dywanix 2025-04-08 09:19

Very fun and nice concept!

ln404 2025-04-08 12:34

My fav game so far! Thank you! So simple and so fun!

osh-studio 2025-04-08 12:43

Love the concept! reminds me of a lot of 'gravity' based games i played growing up on minclip.com, felt morbid walking past my predecessors graves haha. Great entry!

kit-gorn 2025-04-08 15:44

Безымянный.png Really enjoyed the game! Thanks!

iluvatar 2025-04-08 16:14

Such a simple concept, yet so much fun. I really like the level desing. Especially the real-dev thinking like adding the "death example" at the very beginniing when the player goes to the left, saying "Hey player, this is the limit.".

The music is soothing, art is charming, the gameplay itself is challenging just enough to be fun but not tedious. Checkpoints are well spread so you don't ragequit. One of the mest optimized games I've played so far. Well done :)

basic-eagles 2025-04-08 16:36

Liked the movement.

akkadion 2025-04-08 17:07

Overall loved it. I felt the underwater part was a bit out of touch. If I discover how to suck less at it I'll see if I can finish it.

ludumcor 2025-04-08 17:12

Wow, I loved this one! Very entertaining.

pusheeneiro 2025-04-08 17:27

lipski 2025-04-08 17:49

Screenshot 2025-04-08 130024.png

I threw my arms up in the air and yelled in victory when I beat the game. It took a bit to get used to the controls, but I really appreciated the finesse of the momentum based movement once I got a hang of it. I felt really skilled, and the levels were really well put together to suit the physics and control of the game.

The music was excellent, the visuals were really nice. Overall great variety of content throughout the progression of the game.

Crazy that this is a compo entry!!! I'm super happy to see it was made in Godot, I look forward to browsing the source code, as I've been wanting to get to know the engine a better.

Proper jam entry, you're going to score very well with this.

rizbleu 2025-04-08 18:36

sadvest 2025-04-08 19:55

Truly immersive game. The tombstones is a stroke of genius. The water on the right side at the 1100m can be dropped down directly from above, skipping the path and save point on the left side.

kotolazer 2025-04-08 20:07

There's a lot more behind this game than can be seen at first glance. In addition, it is made very simply, but tastefully! Thank you very much for the gaming experience this game gave me <3 photo_2025-04-08_23-05-13.jpg

lightningst 2025-04-08 21:16

@sadvest I found that skip and decided to leave it in since it doesn't skip too far or anything too important. It's a fun little treat for adventurous players!

kristijan 2025-04-08 21:21

One of my absolute favorites! I love the little graves—such a nice touch. This game has huge speedrun potential! You should totally polish it up and drop it on Steam (just add controller support first). Level design is top notch!

timo5034 2025-04-08 22:25

I love everything about this: The CRT monitor effect, the music and especially the level design!

akinat0 2025-04-08 22:53

I left a review here yesterday but rage quitted. Today I come back and beat the game. death.pngfinish.pngIt wasn't easy, but I did it. Congrats again on such a simple idea so well executed!

lightningst 2025-04-09 01:57

@thisyc Thank you for coming back! I'm glad you were able to finish it!

lanalux 2025-04-09 03:13

that player death is haunting. nice work.

budster16 2025-04-09 03:32

Really fun, beat the game with 231 deaths... got stuck a while on the boosting/extending platforms haha. really fun game, could see a speedrun mode being a really solid foddian game and garnering a lot of attention.

nimbushead 2025-04-09 05:34

That was a very well done semi-rage platformer! The music and SFX set the mood great! I was able to win

leorean 2025-04-09 06:45

I really like how the tutorial was integrated into the level design  Couldn't make it past 2000m since the difficulty quickly ramped up

bongard22 2025-04-09 06:46

Had a great time playing on stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2427848024?t=0h24m51s

Loved the gameplay, my only critique would be explaining the slow/air control zones a bit better. Lots of fun

outer-cloud-studio 2025-04-09 07:06

Ah the player death is hilarious! Great job all around!

airgameboys 2025-04-09 10:11

Pretty fun and frustating at once! The implicit tutorial was pretty smooth, only think I missed was a "Space to jump" kind of message, I was assuming it's pressing UP (or there's no jumping) and got stuck there for some time. Might be that I'm too dumb tho, great game!

soul-grinder 2025-04-09 11:55

Pretty solid level design, great idea for the theme and really fun and challenging skill puzzle game. Excellent stuff, top marks!

nojoule 2025-04-09 12:16

elian-geser 2025-04-09 17:31

Amazing! One of the best games in this jam! Love how you let the player drop from high into a water pond to introduce the mechanic! The post processing (Camera sightly bent, and Lines) was a great idea! Good job!

chuckeles 2025-04-09 17:46

Whoa! I did not have the patience to actually finish the whole game, but I really enjoyed how you implemented the platformer. The graphics are nice and the music fits the game very well. :ok_hand:

damn perfect execution

johnnysix 2025-04-09 21:57

Very fun, loved the gravestones wherever you splat.

IF you did more levels ( more mountains ? ) - would be cool to see a little air control even if not totally realistic.

Also, definitely some friction/sliding on the sloped walls like this section here would be amazing :scream:

lightningst 2025-04-09 22:02

@johnnysix Thank you! Make sure you play through the entire game, 'cause there's a section at the end that adds some air control as a mechanic!

Also, the walls do have a bit of friction, but I didn't have time to get it working perfectly. It's the reason you can slide down them without dying in the first place.

lightningst 2025-04-10 00:44

I've made some changes and put them in a playtest on my discord, I'm planning on improving the game some more and possibly putting it on steam in the future! Obviously don't change your ratings based on this playtest build. I'm just letting you guys know since I figured you might enjoy it!

@sam-flemington @wo-ri-gou-le @akkadion @lipski ^You guys all mentioned the water section being difficult and annoying. I've removed the above/below spikes in favor of a checkpoint, and removed the water from the pointless and slow empty downward swimming sections. I'd love to get some feedback from you four on how effective those changes are!

@outish @bongard22 @leorean @arthur-tang ^You four mentioned the end section. While I haven't really decreased the difficulty, I've added an extra checkpoint, and reorganized the obstacles so the difficulty is more of a curve. I would love to see what you guys think of it now!

The QR to the discord is in near the bottom of the game page. There's also a link to it in my LD profile.

helloimbenjamin 2025-04-10 00:47

I honestly really love the design. It's super cool! Great game and I would love to see more. Great Job!

cmaks 2025-04-10 01:03

Really fun! I love the art style (specifically how the drop shadow looks), and thought the music was a really nice addition. The water effect was cool too.

python-b5 2025-04-10 01:13

This was great! The CRT effect compliments the aesthetic nicely. I like the momentum-focused gameplay - while this game is significantly different in gameplay, the "death upon high-momentum collision" mechanic reminded me of N++. The level design was overall pretty good, though the low-acceleration sections near the end did become a bit frustrating, as that mechanic reduced my ability to microadjust my position. Overall, very good work.

As an aside, the music is very good. Don't feel like you have to add an option to turn it off!

monogatari 2025-04-10 01:38

Game.jpg I DID IT ! That really was a silly little platformer hahaha. More seriously this is excellent, level design is so smart, game design works perfectly, and the graphics are beautiful. also the animations are gorgeous. Checkpoints are well placed so the difficulty curve is pleasant. Marvelous job thank you !

tetracold 2025-04-10 03:54

I really liked the mechanics and how the game was set up as a continuous level with checkpoints, it really helps sell the idea of going deep, The difficulty escalation felt just right.it gets pretty difficult at the end but not to the point where it becomes frustrating

The level gimmicks and hazards are introduced really well, it all felt intuitive

The minimalistic presentation ahs a lot of charm, the CRT is a very nice touch

verttixpertti 2025-04-10 07:47

Having to avoid the fall damage and your character breaking down when you die was fun. I did find the platforming mega annoying though. The constant sliding and not having any agency over your movement when in the air was so frustrating but I guess that was on purpose so good job.

vegasword 2025-04-10 10:06

The game idea is cool although I found a physics a bit broken sometimes (as pointed out previously by somes). Like one time I did fall hard but didn't died somehow lmao (I know I'm a bug magnet).

stmatn 2025-04-10 11:40

What a fun game! Some spots were really infuriating, but the checkpoints are set perfectly for making the player give it another go :) Awesome work!

Unbenannt.png

lightningst 2025-04-10 15:17

@vegasword was the surface you landed on flat? I ententionally made the death calculation take into account the direction of your velocity and the direction of the surface.

tomastanhgor 2025-04-10 16:33

Well, this is a pretty entertaining game, clear controls and rules. The music is funny! It would be great if you could turn off the sounds separately.

karamelika22 2025-04-10 16:39

OMG, this is a very cool game, I liked the concept and the details (cute coffins) and by the way, it wasn't easy to complete it, all I did was die, but I still tried to complete it many more times. The design is 10/10, nothing superfluous and tasteful. Good job.

buni 2025-04-10 18:18

I love the game, maybe the best one I've played so far in this gamejam :)

scoobysnacks 2025-04-10 21:52

i love i rage less when i die because it leaves little cross. I made a lot of those)

crow-seeds 2025-04-10 21:58

Pretty bold of you to make a rage game for a game jam LOL but I had still had fun :)

ugly-robot 2025-04-10 23:17

Awesome! What a clever twist - I've never seen a fall-damage descent based platformer like this before! Feels very fresh!

So many lovely details: * The death 'ragdoll' is very satisfying * Love what the 'graves' add to the experience * Honing the jumps is very satisfying * Funny to see spikes at the bottom of the tall death-drops * It even has an underwater spikey level! * Swapping between the 'smoke' physics and 'normal' physics at the end to prove your mastery - great stuff!

Great work with this - I had so much fun!

silkworm-sweatshop 2025-04-11 00:42

The momentum in this game is both super satisfying and rage inducing. That was super fun! Really polished presentation and great game feel.

rhoka 2025-04-11 08:51

While I'm a bit late behind Bongard getting around to rating you thanks again for dropping by our stream and sharing it! I had a great time with it! Tutorialization was quite well done in the first few areas and while I didn't love the acceleration of the character at first I grew to understand the choice and once I really figured out how to use it it clicked. The explosion and grave when you die is really cute if not a bit disheartening to see where you've failed so many times. I think unlike others I understood the wibbly air section pretty quick and like that there were some jumps that felt really good to nail once you learned it. A couple jumps however I did feel were a biiiit to tight like the jump straight up with the spikes above your head I felt like needed to be a bit to precise and would love just a few pixels more room. Overall great job!

sbeif 2025-04-11 12:49

Screenshot 2025-04-11 141415.png

No, thank you!

This is really cool, extremely polished, great level design, great music, simple yet stylish graphics, amazing all-rounder! And thank you for that little pool at the end, I almost had an heart attack :)

crozzy 2025-04-11 16:12

Very fun and energetic game, I liked the gameplay and character, cool sounds and just the game is great

recursor 2025-04-11 20:13

I felt like the character controls could use some more deceleration when coming to a stop. The source of much of my frustration was trying to stop in the right place only to fall off the edge or into some spikes. That being said, I did enjoy my time with it as well as the cute graphical style and appreciate the amount of content that you managed to include. Also, I really appreciate the save flags and should have added those to my game.

shadyshade 2025-04-11 20:24

Very fun and polished gameplay, pleasant graphics. Nice job! :thumbsup_tone1:

martynas 2025-04-12 13:24

Perfect little rage game, would go great in speedrunning community

superpokeunicorn 2025-04-13 03:43

Really great game! I love the momentum based movement. Tricky, but oh so satisfying to pull off a cool move. Also surprised by the number of different mechanics you managed to cram in here. Felt like a good length, needed to challenge myself to pull through but not so long that I just got bored. The minimal visuals and chill music also helped establish a nice vibe that kept me wanting to press on. Overall, really enjoyed this one. Nice work!

Oh, and here's my time. If I knew we were getting graded at the end I wouldn't have paused to chat with my friend on Discord, haha.

holysparks 2025-04-13 16:43

Put a toggle on checkpoints and watch as streamers worldwide rage play your game

borabee 2025-04-13 18:28

Very clever design how you make the character be harmed by fall but also nee inertia to jump far enough, forcing the player to find the perfect balance between descending with caution and going fast hehe. The game is fun to play, with good controls, the difficulty progression is great and the art and sound design help tie it all together. Overall really nice entry.

eyedromeda 2025-04-13 19:25

Simple concept executed really well. The lack of in-air movement felt very strange and somewhat frustrating at first, but I slowly got the hang of it, and found it to be a cool, unique part of the challenge. The player destruction is very satisfying, which is a nice and subtle way to ease the pain of dying. Overall, I think the concept is really cool and the game loop very nice and rewarding. With some more environmental props and a lot of polish, this could easily be turned into a proper Steam-worthy little game. Good work!

oinkle 2025-04-14 23:34

Such an enjoyable game, I had a blast playing it and trying it over and over again. The movement during jumps and the slides felt predictable but added a lot of challenge. Great game

jeffez 2025-04-15 10:03

Really nice game ! It was really fun to play, and I loved every second of it.

If I have to find a critic about it, I would just say that the first level was a little harder than the second or the third, so I would have probably switch them. But that is just me being a prick.

The music was really nice, the art fantastic, and I love the CTR effect.

Please, continue to make games !

jacky-san 2025-04-15 14:02

Really cool game, i like the CRT mood of it, animations, level design WOW The only blemish I noticed is that the audio (SFX+MUSIC) is glitching a bit from time to time (HTM5 on itch.io), do not know if i'm the only one with this issue or not. Very nice job ! Congratz !

lightningst 2025-04-15 16:14

@jacky-san I added a reverb effect to my audio channel that handles physical sounds, but didn't realize until exporting that effects aren't 100% supported on web. The .exe version shouldn't have that issue.

What browser are you on?

a0405u 2025-04-15 21:11

Looks and feels neat!

jacky-san 2025-04-15 22:21

@lightningst I was playing on Google Chrome (last version I assume)

ammonit 2025-04-16 11:56

What a cute little character! I felt so much sympathy for him after he fell a few times, and then I sat there completely focused—just don’t fall, please don’t fall! It turned out awesome! Good luck!

atsh 2025-04-16 15:59

I'm too old for this, reached 1000m and realized I don't have it in me. Appricate the checkpoint though!

friend-pirozhok 2025-04-16 17:42

Cool visual and nice controls. Like from me

olddog 2025-04-17 10:31

this game idea and art are so good!!!!! love this game so much, but the control feelings to bad!!!!!!!!!

lespaul59 2025-04-17 17:13

Great game and cool gameplay. Controls are sometimes a bit hard xD

librory 2025-04-18 05:23

Almost beat it but last part is just crazy, too much difficult. Game, art and level-design is on top (or deep?). Thanks!

blackcat508 2025-04-18 05:43

cool idea! Not being able to control yourself while midair was a nice touch

block97 2025-04-20 04:52

decentcarefully.png

Really fun game. The level design is great I only died a few times :)

daniel-alhadeff 2025-04-20 18:45

Great compo game! Seriously impressed with how lively you were able to make the character feel (through animations) in the limited time window!

pres2300 2025-04-21 14:29

This was super fun! I'm impressed you were able to submit this in time for the compo given how complete it feels! I really enjoyed the music, and the physics seemed to work really well. There were occasional times my momentum didn't feel like it made sense (like when I'd run head first into a wall and then try to jump or move towards the wall again), but overall this was great. Nice work!

lllarso 2025-04-22 11:44

Awesome game and even a COMPO. I'm really impressed by the amount of things you put into this game. The level had a lot of variety with fun mechanics.

One minor thing: It would be cool, if you would see the timer ingame while playing not just at the end. Apart from that everything was done really well. The little gravestones are a cool visual choice. :)

lightningst 2025-04-23 05:44

@lllarso I considered adding the timer in game, but I didn't want to stress out or frustrate people who were playing for their first time.

I will probably add this if I do a full release, but I will probably make it hidden the first playthrough.

creekyasher 2025-04-24 17:59

wow this game was so fun! i think its one of the only games i spent more than 15 minutes playing lol

I loved the music and the overall vibe. and honestly this game is better than most of the jam submissions haha it shows that you dont need fancy graphics or fancy mechanics and that just getting a fun gameplay loop and polishing it works super well!

great job 👍
