LD42 — Running out of space

Skeleport by thristhart 2018-08-15T00:30:34Z

The movement and shooting is really smooth, nice sound and good game mechanics. Really liked it. When the circle shrank down to a very small size the game froze, which I assume is just the ending. A score would have been nice to let you know it's over and how you did. Well made.

Shrinking Panes by Pennycook 2018-08-14T01:37:06Z

Can definitely appreciate how much work went into getting this far on a first go with Unity 3D in only 48 hours. Hilarious story idea also. Well done.

Last Days on Mars by snails84 2018-08-14T23:06:40Z

Music and some animations would be clutch, and my game stopped and "EXIT" popped up when I had 5 turns until losing so I kinda had to stop playing :( However, this is really fun and engaging. It's feels closer to a real complete game than anything else so far. Really impressive.

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-15T04:05:38Z

Just... wow. Absurdly good game. I can't stress enough how good this is. I'm gonna leave some suggestions, but only because I know even excellent games need feedback.

First, I would prefer that as the game goes on the larger items scale better than the smaller ones, thus encouraging me to ditch small easy to carry rings and try to get tricky making crazy shapes work because square for square they are better. I ended up on lv 17 wanting to play more but I had only 1, 2, and 3 square objects and the whole stress of the game was gone. Second, I would speed up the clock of the entire game every level thus making it even more stressful as you go, trying to swap objects in less and less time and in more and more complicated shapes trying to juggle actually making progress on your stats while also not accidentally deleting things and losing. Lastly, I would show whatever numbers the combat is generating as a distraction and to make the slow parts when you don't need input for a while more fun, and to make the individual stats and monster types more useful.

Bravo.

Gravity Well by Arch 2018-08-14T03:06:37Z

@seafishelle couldn't have put it better. I haven't tried the same level of a game so many times since that trial bikes game from like 10 years ago. You all know which one I'm taking about. This is addicting.

Password Camp by Rombus 2018-08-14T00:34:36Z

Really liked the take on the theme. Could easily see where you're going with it. Also, the gameplay was nice and smooth. Very nice.

OVERKILL by earnso 2018-08-15T22:15:52Z

Really fluid gameplay. It's missing the depth but the controls felt pretty good. Only comment on them would be that since enemies can come from above it really needs some aim up functionality.

GRAVEDIGGER - A final stand by Lavinski 2018-08-14T23:27:03Z

Wow. With a way to switch weapons this would be like perfect. Played for like 20 minutes and really enjoyed it.

Break by starhacker 2018-08-15T01:44:48Z

Couldn't find the browser version?

Warehouse Mayhem by RahmKota3 2018-08-14T14:54:54Z

Really nice graphics and animations. I agree that pushing the blocks is a bit chunky but the gameplay was fun. I would have liked the guy dropping blocks to be a little more predictable, so I could feel like I was starting to understand a pattern and get better at the game. Fun game though.

A Tale of Fish by dalton5000 2018-08-14T23:38:39Z

graphics are really nice and the controls are pretty fluid. An option to click through text would be appreciated since the text scrolls verrrrry slow.

Delete After Reading by AndrewW 2018-08-14T02:38:53Z

Ha, really fun play through. Controls were easy, everything worked well. Weird seeing a game that works well and looks polished, nice work. Would have liked a couple more levels :D

Evil Forest Battle by devharts 2018-08-14T00:51:11Z

Cool concept. Needs some sounds!!

Falling Ecosystem by sprvrn 2018-08-15T00:13:00Z

Good stuff. I wasn't understanding the hearts, which I'm sure was on me.

CRUMBLE by whycardboard 2018-08-14T02:56:05Z

But... my score :( I played for like I dunno 10 minutes and then at the end of a level it just went to the home screen. What was my final score!?! So, yea, I liked it cause when it forced me to stop playing after 10 minutes I was pretty disappointed lol.

Yes, the movement was a bit chunky and the animation jumps sometimes, but my biggest hang up was not having an ever more crumbling tile instead of black boxes and the actual item instead of white boxes. Although... game jam, so I'm sure you know that and just didn't have time.

Very. Well. Done.

Falling Town by Centauri 2018-08-14T18:36:59Z

Fun game. I would have loved to have the people as a resources to make gameplay little more challenging.

Unfamiliar by Kovakomes 2018-08-14T03:31:24Z

Wow. I cried, obviously. Damn, it's beautiful.

Will Survive by foxserranu 2018-08-14T18:23:36Z

Graphics and audio on 100. Very smooth gameplay. If this game had any amount of additional mechanics it would be the best thing I've played yet.

Space-Stricken Love by bigda 2018-08-15T01:43:42Z

I like the music and the concept. Gravity was well done but it seemed to be dropping a lot of space bar inputs. Maybe make a slightly easier stage at the beginning to get used to it. Nice work.

Altair's Quest by CarlosBueloni 2018-08-15T00:04:13Z

The controls are very smooth. Fun platformer. I think I would have liked some ongoing music and maybe a just a little wider angle so you could predict things just slightly better.

Halcyon Woods by PopDaddyGames 2018-08-14T01:11:21Z

Looks great. Shout out to the unicorn pool floatie.

Souls Panic by DarkGuiGui 2018-08-14T17:58:24Z

You crushed the overall panic theming. Having the adorable little souls get backed up gave me a real sense of pressure. Your sprites are all cute, and their animations are solid. I never really found a use for throwing the souls, but that could have been user error.

A Way Out by sdrrv 2018-08-14T18:09:23Z

The game works, but once I figured out to shoot the wall instead of the red balls I was instantly done playing. The graphics look good, and the bullet physics are neat.

No Space For Corpses by bigboyenzo 2018-08-13T23:22:33Z

Fun to play. Aiming had a length component I wasn't expecting that made it more interesting. It was actually a bit tough if you're not 100% focused, since the bodies start to pile up, which I really like.

I was running the game in chrome and the upgrades menu didn't seem to be working, and it wasn't the same size as the screen so the HUD overlay was sitting on top of a lot of the images and text.

All in, updating the upgrades menu would be nice, but the actual gameplay felt really good.

Chemtrails by DarrenH 2018-08-14T01:29:39Z

Neat game. The game mechanic is a bit unclear at first, but when I figured it out it was really fun. The generation of the disease is the exact right amount of predictable for it to feel like you can do a good job of containing it if you plan well. Also, the music was really overwhelming at first, but it turned out to actually fit the game pretty dang well. Good stuff.

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-13T23:47:04Z

@mister-kweh Just got that same feedback from a friend. You have to click ship to select it first! Definitely didn't make that obvious enough. Thanks for trying to play!!!

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-14T01:17:40Z

@arch <3 thank you for the feedback!!

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-14T02:19:54Z

@zeta0134 @mister-kweh Thank you!!! The positive feedback after 3 long days is super appreciated.

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-14T14:44:33Z

@chronodrax I just played it again and you are absolutely right. Definitely needs some balancing and the controls aren't at all intuitive. There is are zoom buttons though :D Thank you for the feedback!!!

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-14T14:47:47Z

@bobgar Yes! That's what we were going for :) We made the game at my sister's house and her one request was that her dog be in the game.

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-14T22:58:47Z

@alastairwyn It's a drag and drop file because we don't know how to code and that's what drew us to using GMS. But in the end I think 95% of it was switched (one event at a time, for one reason or another) to the Gamemaker language interface because we couldn't find any support for the drag and drop anywhere online. Eventually it just became easier to figure out how to code with loads of forums and a real reference resource, than it was to try and figure out the blocks with no help anywhere.

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-15T04:08:42Z

@juno definitely right on 1 and 2. The tab button thing though... that's genius. I'm gonna do that on my version literally right now. Thank you.

This Is Fine by TheCommonThug 2018-08-15T17:38:28Z

@nalah We made the game in Game Maker Studio and only purchased the Windows license so unfortunately I don't think we can change any of the setting on how it's packaged. An .exe installer or .zip is all we can build.

Crumble by anstabo 2018-08-14T18:15:02Z

I'm... very... impressed

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T00:04:28Z

Graphics were on point. We made a space based game and I can definitely appreciate your excellent asteroid animations.

Gameplay is... difficult. It's hard to keep track of everything that is happening, but blowing up the asteroids is very satisfying. A clutch sound effect would help with that.

Good stuff.

Over-encumbered by brundolf 2018-08-15T01:35:28Z

I really dig the music and graphics. Could have used a way to drink the potions to get them out of your bag or something because the game seemed like rully hard.

Puzzle #42 Running out of space by calixjumio 2018-08-15T00:26:45Z

We were going to make a game almost exactly like this except with a refrigerator and food so I'm really happy to play this and see an actual implementation of the idea. Totally understand the challenge of actually making this style game which made me really appreciate what you got done. Also, nice graphics. Well made.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Joe Disco by limered 2020-04-21T02:42:12Z

Love the style. nice twist on the genre, music and graphics were good. Could really have used some way to predict what was coming, like if they were words or something. Also, I was busy looking for the next letters on the far right and I couldn't look over and see what's going on at the left. Don't know why you have graphics and sound unrated. Would be high scores from me.

Untitled Phoenix Game by CptFinn 2020-04-21T02:55:28Z

Great movement and controls. Graphics are on point. Excellent.

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-21T02:34:36Z

Intuitive, clean, fun. I played the whole thing without even thinking about it. Sound was on point.

the Early Worm by alec 2020-04-21T22:33:28Z

When you get the controls right it's so freakin satisfying. The music lines up, you actually get to move, it's great. This is the biggest descrepency between "Overall" and "Fun" I have ever given. This game is not fun; why can't I stop playing it?

Dodo - A Dodo Game by theforceluke 2020-04-21T22:39:08Z

10/10 will play again. Add more levels, don't change anything else.

We're Lost, Boy by TheCommonThug 2020-04-21T03:45:51Z

@kyle-bowman @mateusgauto Good call, added some instructions to itch.io and loaded up the zip file so you don't have to install garbage software. Thanks for the suggestions!

We're Lost, Boy by TheCommonThug 2020-04-23T22:24:10Z

Thank you everyone for the feedback!!! We've released a version with suggested bug fixes. The opening sequence has been lighten up and the pause menu now appears on screen when you press space.

Conservatorio by magus77 2020-04-21T22:19:58Z

Crazy work for a jam game. V nice. Movement could feel better. Really impressed though.

Twist of Fate by Drew Cutchins 2020-04-21T02:48:51Z

maybe it's my browser but I don't seem to have any control of the game. What are the controls?

Spirit Of Dying by Sierpinski-Simon 2020-04-21T02:25:20Z

Giving this the best LD feedback I know of... would certainly have kept playing if there was more. Satifying sounds and graphics. Collision that allowed some sliding on walls would have been a plus. Very fun though.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Yermak by Maniulo 2021-04-27T23:14:26Z

Just... wow. This is awesome. Felt unbelievably polished for a jam game.

Dig Dog by jacic 2021-05-11T22:33:50Z

Could have used a gem earlier in the stage to make it more clear what the idea was, but nice work!

Dukes of Debt by binroot 2021-04-26T05:12:55Z

Very cool. Nice use of the theme, nice mechanic. Well done.

Dreamcatcher by TheCommonThug 2021-04-27T00:18:42Z

@jk5000 and @thatmanrobin thanks for the feedback and bug report! Should be fixed now :)

Dreamcatcher by TheCommonThug 2021-05-05T01:41:49Z

@timo-gass Great call! Definitely going to work up a patch with this change. I think this is the exact kind of thing that makes the compo so much harder than the jam, just don't have that voice of reason lol.

You are Queen by BrettSchiff 2021-05-11T22:37:55Z

Interesting idea, kinda dig the idea of hands-off gameplay.

Bumpy Drilly by Paul-Maxime 2021-04-27T00:41:00Z

Super fun. Would have played 5 more times if there was a speedrun timer score at the end.

Dwarven Descent by Chumzy 2021-04-26T04:45:05Z

For some reason I'm just getting a brown screen on itch.io when I hit play. Looks fun, let me know if you troubleshoot it; I'd like to play.

Dwarven Descent by Chumzy 2021-04-27T01:18:45Z

@chumzy @pe7e Figured it out. Gotta allow cookies. Fun game. Loved the graphics. Could have used some more audio.

Grabble Story by Mahjoub 2021-04-26T04:57:16Z

Wishing there was more to this. I'd probably play for hours.

Darkness in the clouds by Seskon 2021-05-07T02:50:14Z

Liked the graphics, liked the vibe, didn't 100% understand the game, but very cool.

Played the whole thing. Excellent game. Interesting mechanic, good control design, solid level progression and tutorial, excellent balance, can't say enough good things. This game got right all of the things I always get wrong. 5/5.

Trolley-ho! by MrMattSim 2021-04-27T02:58:53Z

Neat effect on the upcomming track. A and D weren't responding as expected.
