This is actually a really cool game, but it took me a while to figure it out and I didn't get very far.

The controls are really slick and I liked the graphics and sound.

A couple of things...

After you die you should go back the the intro screen where you can look at the instructions, to get to the instructions page you have to reload the page.

It took a while to figure out that I was dying and why. The hearts aren't obvious at first and I couldn't figure out what was hurting me. It turns out to be the blocks hurt you when your *not* jumping but they break anyway and there is no feedback that you take damage. A bit confusing especially because there are different blocks.

A push button makes no sense, should just be auto-push with the arrows. There seems to be limited use to pushing that I could think of.

Getting stuck in a column can happen. Maybe a wall jump or a way to flip through a box falling from overhead would help.

deathray 2018-08-14 03:06

Am I punching the blocks Mario-style? What's my goal? Confused... It seems like only a few blocks were pushable.

touchme 2018-08-14 07:28

@meatpudding thanks for the feedback! The damage is indicated by a screenshake, but I guess it was too subtle. We should've probably made it more over the top with a loud "oof" and a white/red flash on the character.

There were some issues with autopushing that we couldn't fix with the base content we wanted to provide, so we stayed with the button activated one.

We made powerups (from the question mark boxes) so that you'd be able to trim down columns before you can get stuck like this, but maybe we still need more balance. The gameplay might not benefit from a movement ability like a wall jump, but we'll try it out if we keep on updating the game after the jam!

@deathray Hi, there's a "How to play" section in the main menu, give the game a try again after giving it a read and let us know what you think :)

You can only push blocks that don't have any blocks behind them or on top of them, it's a bit more skill reliant, but you can push blocks that are on the top of the towers while jumping.

Love this spin on tetris! Really nice use of the theme. Great job!

candlebird 2018-08-14 14:47

This game was super fun to play! My only few concern was the feel of pushing the blocks, and the ramp up in difficulty. I felt like you had to be too close to push the blocks, or that there was some hidden interval between pushes that just didn't feel perfect. I also found that there wasn't enough time in the early game to get a feel for the controls because after about 45 seconds, the blocks started falling like mad.

Other than those two things, this was a solid game!

kromzem 2018-08-14 14:49

After the speed goes up you literally can't do anything, cause the player (or am I?) is just too slow so I stood there and was hoping for the best.

The music is pretty catchy tho :D

andreas-roschal 2018-08-14 14:53

Really cool game! Love the art, sounds and general feel of it. I was also a bit confused first, as I only took a quick look at the "How to play" section and completely missed the part that you can destroy falling blocks by jumping into them, which actually turns out to be crucial for surviving longer.

mosaic 2018-08-14 14:53

Cool game. Just the Controls are a little irritating.

biebras 2018-08-14 14:53

I can't remember from which LD it was, but it was the same Idea as this one. Really hard to understand what to do :)

thecommonthug 2018-08-14 14:54

Really nice graphics and animations. I agree that pushing the blocks is a bit chunky but the gameplay was fun. I would have liked the guy dropping blocks to be a little more predictable, so I could feel like I was starting to understand a pattern and get better at the game. Fun game though.

s-knight 2018-08-14 14:58

I quite like this but there were times when I was a bit confused - does the floor turn to lava? I also found it difficult to know if I had an item equipped, it wasn't immediately obvious. I think my biggest suggestion would be for boxes to have a lower probability to drop on the edges as once they've stacked on the side there's not really anything you can do. Overall I enjoyed this. Good job.

touchme 2018-08-14 15:03

Thanks for the feedback! We'll keep it in mind for possible post-jam fixes :)

touchme 2018-08-14 15:09

@biebras sorry to hear that, we didn't have the time to implement a tutorial so all we have is the How to play option in the menu

the-cyber-admin-team 2018-08-14 16:20

great idea , well done.

the robot is a little to fast though

rob-parker 2018-08-14 16:31

Really liked this game! Looks great and runs really well.

touchme 2018-08-14 16:36

Glad to hear that :)

sebbernery 2018-08-14 16:56

It can be hard sometimes, depending where the boxes are dropped, but it's fun. I really like how you made a very innovative (and fun) gameplay based on tetris concepts.

outstar 2018-08-14 18:19

Make sure to play the downloadable version and not the html5 one. The second has some issues, apparently. Played the "wrong" one, so I'm not giving you a rating, but I just wanted to say it has a pretty nice idea and retro feel to it (felt like Donkey Kong at times), but it would be cool to have the mechanics explained a bit better - either through instructions, or gameplay itself.

touchme 2018-08-14 19:33

The web version's UI scaling has been fixed, if anyone had some issues with it. We are testing out automatic block movement, but it has some issues, might make it an optional feature in a post-jam update.

tigerj 2018-08-14 20:52

Respect! I too made a cargo/warehouse style/crane game but yours is fun! I really appreciate what you did with your rng and positioning. It's a very cool game and a blast to play! I will probably refactor my code and make a method that will calculate x/y positions for my crane based on your input near the end. Here is a link to your segment on my stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297300090?t=03h26m26s PS the color changing walls were so cool

touchme 2018-08-14 21:46

@tigerj glad you enjoyed and good luck with your code! :)

rahmkota3 2018-08-14 21:50

@tigerj Thank you so much for your input and for playing our game on your stream :) I'm glad I could help :)

elfcirynn 2018-08-15 01:05

Controls took a second to get used to, and I didn't realize power-ups were a thing for an embarrassing amount of time. It's fun, the music is chill, the sound effects made the gameplay satisfying. The pacing was good, I'm proud of my 1 minute and 20 second best score though I think I could stretch it to 2 minutes if I played it some more! Job well done!

lucbarr 2018-08-15 04:47

Really fun, but I feel like I've seen that concept before in some old phone game. Lacks work on music, I feel like it didn't loop very well, and can get annoying because the track is really short. Got to recognize the attempt to be fidel to the classic 4-5 sound channels. Had a better experience when muted, to be honest. Like the style, very simple, minimalistic, I can picture this in an arcade machine. Well done, overall!!

awix 2018-08-15 05:43

Great graphics and the audio really helps you get into the game.

2018-08-15 09:16

While I love the graphics and the soundtrack, the controls were difficult to get used to, especially on the keyboard. Took me a few tries to eventually get the hang of it. Overall, it's a good idea and certainly one of the more interesting games I've played so far.

touchme 2018-08-15 10:38

Thanks for another batch of helpful feedback and getting us to 20+ ratings in each category!

We know that some people don't like the manual pushing and are working on an automatic alternative!

Also, the UI will be getting an upgrade in a post-jam update to make it easier to understand. :)

stevenjmiller 2018-08-15 14:52

Fun game, the difficulty curve is really well done and my best time was 1:35. I actually don't mind having to press a button to push, but I think the issue is that pushing in the air seems to also require having the button for the direction you want to push held down. I think that if pressing the push button automatically pushed in the direction you were facing (at least in the air), pushing would feel more smooth.

touchme 2018-08-15 15:58

@stevenjmiller that's how it works, as far as I know :p It's just a bit hard on the jam version.

Thanks for the feedback!

lucas-carvalhaes 2018-08-17 00:37

Great game! A little hard to grasp the mechanics at start but still, great gameplay. I got a little mad dying so much, still, managed to survive for a while. Your box drops should be more predictable, while still being random.

wetbox 2018-08-17 14:24

Very attractive game. Well done balance made make me play again and again. I want to beat my own time record. I would like to note that not always clear when you can use a bomb.

touchme 2018-08-18 08:03

Thanks for the feedback!

@lucas-carvalhaes we're working on making the drops a little more balanced, due to the frequent losses from sides stacking.

@wetbox we've noticed that the powerups were not indicated well enough on the UI for new players and are working on changing that :)

hexkritor 2018-08-24 15:32

Nice game

Pluses

+ Old-gaming style + Good grafics + Intuitive gameplay

Minuses

- Can't move boxes in column where drops new box - Sometimes box hits even I jumped - Sudden deaths and I can't understand why it happened (lava or crossed line or out of HP)
