LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Miner Matter by HeyChinaski 2014-04-28T03:03:00

This was a good one. Lifted our spirits after we failed. Funny watching the guy rolling over and spinning out of control, ending with a giant pile of carts rolling down the tracks.

The miner himself and his wide eyes are funny enough to make you like him, even though he's not even mentioned.

Good work!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Aglæca by philomory 2015-09-05T03:55:00

Whoo, Beowulf. I liked the random generation and the graphics, but I'm not really sure how the strategy comes into play, since it seems like I just get decimated by the townspeople no matter what I do (years of tyranny, eh?)

I liked the mood of the game a lot.

Escape From Twump Tower by 01010111 2015-09-11T03:19:00

Pretty cool game. The music was beepy and repetitive but really that's my only complaint, aside from very glitchy box physics (I almost got completely stuck at one point because of overlapping boxes)

The music really reminds me of Robopon 2 for the GBA-- check it out, it's oddly familiar.

SnakeLike by Logan 2015-09-13T20:06:00

Really well made game. I had to check it out in MMF2 to see how you did it. Great work.

Milky Helps People by reheated 2015-08-29T05:27:00

The logic puzzle bit is actually pretty brilliant, though I got stuck pretty early on as I'm wont to do. I liked the voice actor.

CRT TV by cardboard 2015-08-29T04:14:00

I can tell you were definitely going somewhere with this idea, though it feels like I'm playing an early alpha of an N64 game or something. The 'unfinished' vibe incidentally really adds to the mood.

Easter Hunt by andrewsnycollas 2015-08-30T14:01:00

Some control instruction would have been nice but the graphics were alright.

RPG Director by HeyZeus 2015-08-27T20:42:00

Ha, cool. It has that "2005 flash game" feel (and that's a good thing.)

I also really enjoyed the music from various RPGs. Chrono Trigger was a fun game.

Fluffles the Friendly Puppy by loadsofmana 2015-08-29T20:03:00

This game was great. I liked the graphics most of all. However, with there always being more knights on the ground than in the sky and there being no way to go back, there's no real incentive to ever jump. Nevertheless, it was a peaceful, well art-ed, fun game. Good job!

Impostor by aviktorov 2015-08-28T20:49:00

The controls are a bit wonky but you really hit upon something with this idea. The graphics and mood are really fitting as well.

Unfortunately in the webGL version, hovering over an object makes it go nuts with flickering and noises so I'm not really sure what to say.

The Creature from East Second Street by emmelineprufrock 2015-08-30T04:15:00

Pretty odd game- I think you hit the "uncanny valley" of storytelling, (maybe unintentionally?) Seeing the girl go through a date with an ostensible blob monster, overlaid with Pacman-esque (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEYxgqnK27c) voices and an overly-attached dialogue really sort of weirds ya out. Though that might be what you were shooting for.

Don't get me wrong though it was interesting as well (and one of the few "visual novels" that is actually videographic).

Monsters always finish last by Reyn 2015-08-29T19:53:00

I really liked the music

Trump 3016 by sorlok 2015-08-30T03:30:00

Haha, surprisingly cool game, despite what the title screen would have you believe. I remember you from Coinslot! It seems we both made "political" games this year. A Trump roguelike is something I thought I'd never see.

I don't really know if there's an ending since I ran into a charizard and he creamed me with one hit.

Anyways, I'm assuming due to how RPG Maker works, you won't actually fight enemies unless you're FACING them, so I was easily able to just waltz around rooms full of enemies.

I'm glad to know ASCII/Enterbrain is still using those old sound effects from RM2k. The music fit really well until Kevin MacLeod reared his ugly yet familiar head in the grasslands section. If there's anything that can ruin a game's immersion more than that, I'd like to see it. The outside portion/first stages of the hotel's music were really great though.

They Dug Too Deep by GoudaGames 2015-08-29T20:27:00

Good. I liked the graphics and evolving mechanic (even though i didn't get to evolve very many times :)!).

Urd Monster by abcdef65g 2015-09-05T03:14:00

Some serious collision detection bugs, and the text scroll at the beginning shot by unreadibly fast (I'm not sure if it's a joke or not)

I really did like the music and the general concept though.

Disco Arachno by Thingo Studios 2015-08-27T20:34:00

This is one of those wacky ideas that you can feel the imagination emanating from. I thought it was pretty cool, I liked the graphics and music. Unfortunately whenever I noticed a spot was going to shock me and I had already put a foot on it, I was pretty much hosed since it takes a large amount of time to cycle back through the legs. It would be neat if you could cycle both left and right.

Really neat stuff nonetheless.

ECS in Python by brianbruggeman 2015-08-29T04:17:00

Like others have said, what an unorthodox entry. I kinda dig it.

HUNGRY BUNCH by ratking 2015-08-30T22:57:00

It's definitely a neat little trifle of a game. And I learned what jAllegro was. Thanks for making this.

MISHMASH by bodsey 2015-08-30T00:42:00

This game has a nice art style. My friend and i also used a paper style actually. The game Is interesting and different. Not bad.

Chicken Girl in Toyhouse! by LevieDAudio 2015-08-27T02:41:00

Cool idea but like others have said the collision is buggy. Eventually the game just hung after being stuck in a block and I had to end it with task manager. I love the genesis music! 5/5 in that regard.

You'll find the monster when it's over by pi_pi3 2015-08-27T20:48:00

A neat game but unfortunately it just crashes once you grab the bazooka.

Cruelty Free by dydx 2015-08-27T02:27:00

Really pretty polished. I actually really enjoyed this game; The atmosphere was great. The music at first reminded me of Banjo Kazooie or something but the overall atmosphere reminds me of some old 3d games (See: Jimmy Neutron PC, school level https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgIgtivFjAY)

People's Mandatory Video Entertainment by Nurbs 2015-09-05T04:11:00

Now That's What I Call Edgy.

Is that a weird rendition of Gangnam Style at the very beginning?

Angry Bull by Maxxim 2015-08-30T00:59:00

This wasn't what i was expecting but it was great. This game struck a good nerve with me. It's so simple that it's amusing. That's what makes it great. I believe i'll keep this one around...

Nightcrawler by Hjalte500 2015-08-30T15:17:00

The graphics and mood are fantastic. It's clear that you didn't have much time to polish, but this game was still interesting. I'd recommend the creation of a post-ludum version

R-ADIUS by MrTwister 2015-08-30T02:51:00

Wow, cool game. Graphics are great and it's one of those "shop games" that would fit really well on newgrounds or the app store. My strategy initially was to spend all my points on cooldown/price then just cream the player with my Beet army.

Why are they called beets? That goofy name really makes me smile for some reason.

YouAreTheMonster by KaiseanGames 2015-08-29T21:47:00

[SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER]

I'm not sure if i'm just getting lucky or not, but it seems that the key i need is always just the middle number in the room number. Anyway, i liked the graphics and music. It kind of reminded me of portal. Hope you get the chance to make something bigger and better next time. But hey, we've all dealt with themes we couldn't work with.

Nimble by Lynx 2015-08-29T03:55:00

This art's really great and the mood is fantastic, I'm just mildly sad that such cool atmosphere was "blown" on what is essentially Guitar Hero without the rhythm. I like it anyway though.

In the name of science! by pta2002 2015-09-05T03:21:00

Cool. Reminded me slightly of Robotron 3000. I'd be lying if I said the game wasn't incredibly buggy though. I did make it all the way to the end!

Blop Avanger by Mimus 2015-08-29T03:53:00

I actually really enjoy this game. It reminds me of those flash games you play on Newgrounds or whatever. It got a little "grindy" though so I didn't have time to solve it, but cool game nonetheless.

Sanika by Frozen Stick 2015-08-27T21:23:00

It's one of those cool twitchy games. I sure wish it wasn't instadeath though. Audio was great.

King Mean's Mean Streak by purenickery 2015-08-27T20:16:00

The idea and Paper Mario graphics are really great. The music is alright too, but like xevozfighter said, it really doesn't match with the music.

Combat was a bit tedious and I eventually gave up after wandering around lost on the main island for a while.

I am Malware by Finn 2015-08-28T21:16:00

Haha this game is really well made. I liked the storyline bits and the music just fit perfectly. Reminds me of the early Metal Gear titles for the MSX/NES.

Monster Mash! by grotewold 2015-08-29T04:08:00

Someone get Takahashi Meijin in here.

Mild Mannered Richard by DarkwindMedia 2015-08-27T21:03:00

Wow, cool game. It gave off an eerie vibe; Richard seemed more like Salad Fingers than a mild mannered monster.

Don't Get Caught! by astrophics 2015-08-29T20:17:00

This was the best game I've played yet in this jam. Very well done. Challenging too. I ended up kinda cheating by just very rapidly stealing from one person to get the dollar. I'm gonna keep this one on my computer to play in my free time. Very well done; 5 Stars across the board!

Don't Get Caught! by astrophics 2015-08-30T14:28:00

I've been playing your game more sense yesterday. I've gotten a whopping high score of $6352.09! I love this game!

Pushy Monster by anarbitrarymustache 2015-08-27T02:00:00

Really great graphics. The Kevin MacLeod "Every Minecraft Video Ever Made" music really rips you out of the immersion though. The gameplay is pretty cool too but it hangs if you hit R while the hero is wandering around.

The Slimy Jumper by glaenn 2015-08-27T20:25:00

Cool game, and neat graphics. Your platforming code is a bit wonky but nothing too serious. Were you inspired by agar.io?

Minion, I have to take a leak. by fistmaker 2015-08-29T22:15:00

The game was very difficult and you can just keep playing with your health into the negative. The graphics were nice thoeugh.

You are the Monster(creator)! by Darkflint 2015-09-13T19:23:00

A pretty weird entry but it's kinda cool nonetheless. I have an affection for these community-driven arty non-games and I like that you did it in 72 hours.

Me and my friend actually made something mildly similar a few ludums back about rube goldberg machines.

Almost Heroic by xvw 2015-09-05T03:43:00

Haha, what a neat and very French game. The graphics were great, though the music was a bit beepy for the rest of the atmosphere.

I enjoyed how the aliens all flew in at the end, the sudden cut to that was comical.

Dude, Stop by Patomkin 2015-09-13T19:47:00

Pretty funny. I didn't get a few of them and some were difficult to figure out but the interpretation of the theme is really cool.

The Darkness Inside by ClubbingSealCub 2015-08-29T23:54:00

It was alright. :) The tentacles scared the crap out of me

We Missed You! by RHY3756547 2015-08-29T05:09:00

Another masterwork from my man RHYS. Really though, I've got you cataloged in my brain as "makes inventive games guy" and you delivered. I can only imagine this really pushes the limits of the PICO8 from the various examples I've seen of it. The idea of the postal service being a monster is pretty funny as well. NEWMAN!

bloody tentacles by zuurr 2015-08-30T02:36:00

Figured I'd come over and play your game. I saw this a while back and thought it was cool from the pictures, and I was proven correct. Real neat game.

I liked the graphics especially. I can't sing high praises of the little audio loop but y'know, it did its job. Cheers!

LD35 — Shapeshift

Cow Duck Fever by 16BitsOfAwesome 2016-05-06T01:07:00

Good game. The graphics worked, but your speed should ramp up as you progress, often we found ourselves jumping too early or too late, there's definitely a sweet spot between falling like a rock onto the poles and jumping into them too late.

About as hard as Flappy Bird. Still a well built game.

Dont get mashed by lekiy 2016-04-22T21:39:00

Took me a while to realize that the noise was the blocks breaking, as it was rhythmic at first, and when it started speeding up and going nuts I got freaked out.

Cool game, what's with the bird aesthetic?

Secret Admirers of the Forest by orion_black 2016-04-22T02:51:00

A neat idea but a bit hard to figure out- such is the nature of LD games! I found the (debug?) feature of clicking to spawn enemies, so each turn I would just relocate all the enemies to a corner and (try to) waltz right for the exit. Unfortunately I kept getting stuck behind invisible walls.

Nice work for making a roguelike.

Malformed by Takadimi 2016-04-22T00:53:00

Pretty cool, I recognize the cool work that went behind making an engine. I too have been there!

Screen's a little jerky, but that might just be my cruddy graphics card.

Photagogue by ChuiGum 2016-04-21T00:13:00

This is a really hard game, but the graphics, controls, and mood are very good. I'm sure there's something involving shapeshifting in there but unfortunately we are on a time crunch. Rock on.

Shifty's Shape Escape by grayhaze 2016-04-20T22:44:00

Good game. Too bad we had to play it on easy mode, because I could easily see it being quite the challenge. The graphics were pretty cool and the mood fit thanks to the menacing whoosh sound effects.

SHEEPSHIFT by Beardo Games 2016-05-02T22:50:00

It's a weird game with weird music. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The controls could be tuned up but hey, it's the Ludum.

Lumiania by Yword 2016-05-05T23:32:00

Solid little platformer that has great graphics. I immediately got a Cave story vibe from the soap bar character, to the scrolling clouds, to the triangle powerups.

My only complaint is the music.

Turbo Transform by Robber 2016-04-20T22:55:00

Pretty cool game that ran pretty smoothly. Kinda reminded me of the Mario Kart level where you drive on the pipe, but maybe not. Coolio game overall! Great graphics! Awesome skill!

Prince Charmless by Pietro Ferrantelli 2016-04-23T01:29:00

I remember seeing some of your earlier entries do really well and wonder "how is this guy so good?"

Really cool game. The mario sound effects are great.

Sheep Shift by Budda 2016-05-03T02:02:00

This game was really nice; It'd be nicer if there was a way to defeat the wolves. As it is now they just spaz out once they get near one.

On a side note, the game pairs incredibly nicely with Weird Al's polka medleys.

Sheep Shift by CodeNMore 2016-05-03T01:39:00

Really charming little game. Conceptually really simple but the sucking sounds, graphics, and general idea was all very funny and nice.

Wizard Fight by LeftRight92 2016-05-02T22:45:00

This game would have benefited a lot from sound. Reminds me of megaman/rock paper scissors or something. Cool game, I played it with my friend.

Project G.R.I.L.L. by vctr_seleucos 2016-04-20T23:15:00

We unfortunately could not get very far but it looked very cool graphicswise and the audio was also very nice.

Klurby by Ildfuglen 2016-04-21T00:35:00

Took me a while to realize that it's a Kirby parody, but it's a really cool game. Too bad we were right at the end when my jump man failed to jump for me and we rage quit. Good stuff nonetheless!

Cavern of Flight by Hempuli 2016-04-22T01:11:00

Awesome atmosphere, reminds me quite a bit of one of those Nifflas games or your game Where They Once Were.

BTW, I tried checking out the source to see how your lighting was done but unfortunately the link is dead.

AmeriMorph by squirrelbot 2016-05-02T23:23:00

Pretty fun game. We somehow got the rabbit to fly indefinitely but the glitch resolved itself and we couldn't seem to reactivate it. The Eagle didn't really seem to have a use. Also you can climb walls at hyper speed. Bugs aside, it's a neat little game with nice graphics.

Transmorgification Situation by KBF123 2016-05-03T01:32:00

The running instructions are downright bizarre- you might want to create different downloads for each platform.

A cute little point and click albeit without much depth. Appreciated the homesuck reference.

By The Light Of The Spire by Blobo 2016-04-22T21:51:00

Charming game! Unfortunately dodgy collision and controls made it a little weaker but the neat music and generation aspects make up for it.

Shifters by Reis Mahnic 2016-05-02T23:12:00

Cool story game with a surprising amount of variations. It was a bit anticlimactic in some of the endings but oh well. Otherwise solid.

SHAPE.SHIFT by BulletsArePeopleToo 2016-05-03T00:12:00

Wow, very neat and beat-centric game. That boss is incredibly difficult- we tried for a good 25 minutes and although we memorized the attack patterns up until the double-layered shot of grey with one red, we just couldn't BEAT it. We really enjoyed the "shooting on beat" mechanic. Well done.

Social Engineering - Level: Shapeshift by corupta 2016-05-03T01:15:00

Wow, unexpectedly extensive game that betrays its (sorry) rather dopey looking graphics at first glance.

Those goofy triangles do grow on you though.

We stole ~75000 worth of goods. I've got to say it again, really complex and nice work for making it in the time limit of the Ludum.

BoxShiftMetroidVania by Boxonix 2016-05-02T23:30:00

We "beat" the game by killing all the enemies. The floating hearts were terrifying once they showed up.

Give me Six by SpiritJZL 2016-05-03T00:52:00

Really creative game. Reminds me of reversi/connect 4.

RobotJet by janiq 2016-05-03T01:48:00

GOOD!

Paranormal Investigator by kwmx 2016-04-21T01:00:00

This one is pretty sweet, the mood felt perfect with the investigator's little "backstory" and the creepy music. If you ever make a sequel you could make it more horror-y as the levels progress. Cool job!

Mirror's Polygon by batmanasb 2016-04-20T23:39:00

Surprisingly cool game that has gameplay mechanics that work together in surprisingly neat ways- I always enjoy games that put stuff together that seem nonsensical but end up being a chesslike emergent type of game. Cool stuff.

The Protean Organism by Tomahawk2001913 2016-04-22T21:35:00

Neat little puzzle game, but dang starting back at the beginning every time, especially when it's just dodgy collision detection that kills you is annoying.

De Skogen by Aidan Markham 2016-05-03T00:45:00

We walked all around de skogen and found all the swirly stones. Then we walked in the portal- the ending is a little anticlimactic but the mood is good. Half expected slenderman to show up at a couple points.

I must say that the "jazz walk" cycle sort of throws off the mood, however hilarious it is.

Shape Escape by legavroche 2016-04-22T01:57:00

I got 138! Pretty cool game but there's definitely a limit, you can't play forever. I could see this being an arcadey webgame with some music and enemies, maybe a couple more forms to shapehshift into. Cool game.

DungeonShift by AssassinMonkey 2016-04-21T00:45:00

Sweet game, especially for your first Ludum. Reminds me of the Binding of Isaac. With a little more work you could probably make a full blown game out of this.

Chameleon Candidate by KappaIX 2016-04-22T21:20:00

Actually really witty. Definitely a cool game. I ended up tricking them all, haha.

I found that a good strategy is to work up a lukewarm appreciation among all districts, then just start focusing 100$ rallies on each one that didn't benefit from the television appearance.

Shape Shift by Mattincho 2016-04-21T00:02:00

In interesting take on the runner genre in which physics itself bows down to your C++ hardcore programming hax0rz. Good stuff bro!

daoud_c by chihabe 2016-04-22T21:54:00

Pretty weird, the lack of description, nonexistent user profile, odd music and blurry ripped visuals makes it feel like you're playing a creepypasta.

daoud_c by chihabe 2016-05-06T04:06:00

@HoldMeImScared

Hmm, very weird indeed. Is it just a cruddy game that some guy spammed to get recognition, or something more malicious? Knowing my luck I probably installed a rootkit running this.

DASH by lalu_c 2016-04-22T21:44:00

Neat game, unfortunately I can't see my score or the spectrum analyzer on windows so it plays more like a trippy interactive music video. Grats for coding it all in C.

War Never Changes by kopo 2016-04-22T22:25:00

It's a pretty weird game, but hey good job for finishing on time. It took a bit before I recognized the idea, flashing through warzones shooting the same way no matter whether it's past or future. I enjoy that "sigh" hit sound.

Greedy Miners by RafaSKB 2016-04-20T23:50:00

The graphics really played into the mood and theme of the game, the angry little pikmin pivot guys made the game. Is it really possible to play beyond a couple minutes?? Very hard, very cool.

Shape Runners by smal 2016-04-22T21:30:00

Pretty cool game, not sure what the triangle did but the switch between moving red and bouncing blue is a cool one. Would have been pretty neat with some varied up terrain, because you can mostly just go with red until your inevitable doom at the hands of the insanely fast wall.

Shape Shuffle by BitDare 2016-04-22T01:23:00

Hey, I beat it. Cool. I actually had luck just sprinting through the (actually very large!) map and ignoring the enemies since they couldn't really hurt me that much as I light-sped through. Cool game, but it did chew high amounts of CPU as I played- Probably a very tight while loop which would account for the incredible speed at which I ran as well.

Faceshifters Vs Tumy by alessandrovigamus 2016-05-05T23:49:00

So I read through the comments and nobody seems to be mentioning the ultra-creepy air this game has- all the blocks seem to want to avoid you, with their dejected faces and mucus encrusted eyes, and cry/squeal when you do touch them (and make them wilt).

Is there something deeper to this? Apparently you're a tumor so I guess you're giving the blocks cancer? Combined with the evening backdrop and cheery music, it's pretty unsettling.

Otherwise a neat little platformer, if very hard. Good job on the music, bad job on engine choice- the levels take like a solid 3 seconds to restart which is bad when they're this hard.

Town by guin36 2016-05-06T00:58:00

Really took a dark turn towards the end. I predicted it once Joey started talking about shapeshifters.

The undertale music was really grating until we put on some polka, which we had to turn off once we started going around and mauling the townspeople to the merry tunes of Weird Al.

Cool game.

OneHourShaper by CrazyMatt 2016-05-05T23:54:00

I mean, it is a game. Grats for making it in 1.5 hours. The random part late in the game where you have a 50% chance of simply restarting was a bit frustrating.

Shape Through by Ropiet 2016-05-06T00:04:00

Fun game, it's defini5t3ellyas a asdupewqar hos HEXOIGON

Max Wheigt: A really heavy story by Allorius 2016-05-06T00:32:00

The graphics were pretty good. Excellent animation The music got kinda repetitive though. I liked the concept. Good job.

You've got balls by The M 2016-05-06T01:49:00

Seriously one of the best entries so far. The C64 atmosphere, the minimalist art, and the acrobatic but not unwieldy jumping/ball mechanic make this game really polished feeling.

As a side note, the main bathroom-sign looking character reminds me of another game from a past ludum... http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/wp-content/compo2/233892/2396-shot1.png

Shifting Sands by MissVioletVi 2016-04-22T02:24:00

Well, your updated link is just a folder with no way to download it- I added it to my Drive, zipped it up, and downloaded and it and it worked, so you might want to try sharing a zipped version.

Cool game, I really enjoyed the twist of being able to shoot your enemy's bullets and watching them spiral around with physics. Unfortunately when he transformed into the sand fly the game just hung with no way to progress. Clicking didn't do anything, but maybe that's just where you ran out of time.

Shape by Tatemartin 2016-04-22T01:29:00

Wow, this is a great idea. Reminds me of those classic ZX Spectrum games or whatever with the little title at the bottom, like Jet Set Willy or VVVVVV. "Enjoy the ride" was obnoxious but I figured out the rest pretty quick.

You should turn this into a Flash game or something and add some more levels, it's definitely there in terms of concept!
