The graphics were good. I liked the style. The music didn't really go with the art though. It felt like the music should be more whimsical. I also was constantly asking myself the question, "Am I supposed to be here yet?" I got to the part where you are supposed to fight the super knight with only 2 items. I than fought "The Hand of Nick" with out much trouble either. One last negative, the combat felt a bit sticky. Really interesting take on the theme. Hope you continue working on it after the contest.

Really loved the art style and the dub step type music.

I enjoyed this, though I didn't finish the whole thing - wasn't quite sure where to go after getting the wizard hat. Graphics and music were great - I loved King Mean's facial expression. Pacing could be improved - there was definitely an impressive amount of content, but it felt too spread out. Great use of the theme and atmosphere, I enjoyed wandering around the world you guys built.

Kinda grindy and button-mashy, but that's just part of being a hack-and-slash. Item pickups were cool, though I didn't get them all; ice cream cone and sunglasses were enough to see me through to the last boss; items applied their visual effect when picked up, but didn't apply their changes until I clicked.

I got bored of cutting through villages all the time (honestly, the combat was slow and repetitive, and with large clusters of buildings that got tedious fast) so I cut around them. A map would have been a HUGE help here, since it was hard to know where to go once I went off-trail. I feel like I might've missed 2 of 4 bosses in so doing? When I beat the last boss, the game didn't end, but that also might've been by design too!

I second that the music didn't feel terribly fitting for the game's narrative. That said, it was well made, groovy music! I loved the graphical style too; everything being a prop or a cardboard cutout was a fun satire on the artificial nature of this heroic adventure, and maybe RPGs in general? The text bubbles and bouncing text for italics/emphasis is a great touch, and something I might even borrow; it makes reading lively, and really conveys the emphasis, and different motion could even give the words a "tone". Very cool!

Don't let my critique say otherwise; great work on your entry, and I had a good time playing it.

P.S. Left the game running while writing the last comment, and this is what I came back to:

Great game, keeping this on my hard drive until I get more time to play it! Loved the graphics! It reminded me of one of my favorite games, Paper Mario. :D

That was fun! Nice job!

The idea and Paper Mario graphics are really great. The music is alright too, but like xevozfighter said, it really doesn't match with the music.

Combat was a bit tedious and I eventually gave up after wandering around lost on the main island for a while.

I love this game and wanted so much more from it. :D

I really liked the art style and the music. The game was fun although it perhaps could have benefited from a bit more audio/visual feedback when you were hitting something or were being hit yourself. It's a very stylish, excellent entry!

realy like the cardboard/ wood block artstyle and the music might not fit too well but its goo anyway :P
