Connecting LD30 to the Real World by Will Edwards 2014-08-27T13:55:00
Haha great idea, quite impressive, and probably the most original take on the theme so far.

Ok, I loved the rhymes, definitely sets a certain tone for the game. In general that was enjoyable, though it would be cool to someday add more difficulty. I ran into some bugs towards the end (the menus did not work anymore), but they did not impair my experience. Controls get a bit to get used to but they aren't that much of a problem in my opinion. In short: Nice job! :)
Great art! Fun to play!
The idea is really nice, even though I could not play in multiplayer.
Wow that was sure fun! Loved the art!
Simple but efficient concept, which is something I like.
Badly wants sound, in which case it would probably a very aesthetic experience. Perhaps add effects or stuff when the player absorbs stars... lots of potential!
Simple yet efficient use of the theme. Really love the sound and the art; only problem comes from somewhat randomness of what happens when you click...
I... I have no words.
I liked the mood and sounds more than the gameplay itself.
Yeah, same here, I don't have Android, so I can't play. Though I get that given that it uses tilting there's no real point in porting it...
I liked that game a lot, mechanics were easy to grasp, and you can probably come up with very challengin levels. Good job!
Genius
Ok, so let me start by saying that it indeed crashed my computer, so I did not play to the end.
What I can say from what I've played is that this is a great, great, great game. First, your take on the theme is quite original (I mean, I'm kind of getting sick of having to connect or collide planets); the art style and sounds were are on the spot, and the gameplay mechanics totally unexpected and quite profound in how they somehow pit the player's responsiveness against the character's impatience. All in all, fantastic job!
That moment when the third level appears and you're like... **** how am I going to time this right? Great concept and game, love it. Love the difficulty too, cause it's really about you know getting to learn a new way of thinking.
Hum I think the idea of the train was in itself very good (very few trains in the games I've seen till now), but the shooting is kind of superfluous... I really liked that feeling of hurtling through a dark night, with the tunnel and the forest, very pleasant to the eyes. Perhaps next time think don't hesitate to not implement "traditionnal" game mechanics, and risk making interactive art!
Nice game, though lots of stuff going on and not always easy at first to figure everything out. Had fun though!
Even though this is obviously very rough, there is a good feeling about it and it's fun to mess around with. Plus reminds me of that good old Star Wars Racer game, so much nostalgia!
Don't get the levers either, I'll be back later. Game loos fun though :)
Ok, I added some information to the description. :)
@Mr.Cassels: I'd rather have people discover it, maybe next time I'll try to make it more evident though.
@pjimmy: I like that adjective, so I'll take that as a compliment?
@DDFRanky & Aglavara : Thanks guys!
@Grooveman: Thanks! Definitely will look into that!
@Retl Oh, thanks, I'll look into that right now and see how I can fix it.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
Thanks Chris, I had actually read some Borges in the week before LD, and I'm pretty sure it had some influence on this. I will definitely be trying to do more elaborate/developped stuff in the future.
Web link does not work.... soooo....
Art.
Well, I have no idea what just happened but I won :).
Love the art: flickering holograms and distorted voice. Very fun to play as well!
Very fun, I might actually keep it around for boring lectures at university. I love the style too!
Very nice :) As with other games, makes the routine kind of fun while still outlining its soul-crushing monotony
Very well written. Which there was more, but I know that can be difficult :)
Nice :)
Cool :)
This is messed-up in a good, let's go hardcore on the theme kind of way. Great graphics too, really! And weirdly fun?
Awesome! One of the best games I've player yet!
A very nice little game, I really really like the way you introduce the controls :D
Nice for a first game! But try to make it abit more user friendly next time :)
Wow, one of the best text adventures I've played in a long time! Great first!!!
Ok, I'll be honest and say I don't see exactly where the theme fits here but HOLY MOTHER this is fun. Like, man, you made my day!
There's something so compelling about converting people to worship you oO xD
Great art, really, and great effects!
Interesting concept!
Really love the drawing!
The story is touching too, if I had kids I'd have them play it :)
I really really liked it – only found the end a bit meh. I find you insist a bit too much on linking to the theme when it could benefit from being implicit!
But great job otherwise!
Amazing game all round!
We need more games of this kind.
I really would have no objection to you guys winning LD.
Nice :D
Interesting concept!
Your graphics are amazing, as usual!
No link...
1) In spite of the slightly clumsy controls, it's quite addictive!
2) Nice models, simple but efficient :)
2) THE MUSIC. IT SPEAKS.
Really cool!
Hilarious! ANd cool art/music!
Just a heads up: employees seem to be making 10 bucks a second, not 1 as indicated on the status screen?
One of the best games I've player yet. Great art, great sounds, very simple gameplay yet nice puzzles. I'd be curious to see that programming language of yours!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the whole player control and animation could do some improving :-) I'll add something in the description for future players.
@Filecreation @aprotasenya Thank you :)
@mickanio haha well if that's your only criticism, I'm quite happy! I'm not sure what you don't like in that line though? Is the word 'utterly too pedantic ^^?
@andreymust19 hm, sorry you experienced that. If you could send me a screenshot of what you are referring to one of those days, I'd appreciate :) (you can just send it to my twitter, @chesnaisa)
@increpare I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll update the build to make the prompt lighter, wouldn't want anyone else getting frustrated on this.
@MrDave – yes, making the room smaller is on my 'improvements' list. This was my first time making a 2d game with graphics so I learned a lot about the dangers of not scaling things properly! As for the length, I just didn't have that much time to write more, but I'd like to make it (just a bit) longer too!
@Draknek hm yes, maybe I should explore that. I was also thinking of letter the player try to swing the hammer and display some message to say that it's useless, unless they're in a place where it has an effect?
@n42k you're not the first one to make that comment. Maybe in my post-compo version I'll make it possible to break the glass and not leave yet, maybe even break all the glasses. I don't know.
@veoviscoll12 @Jod thanks guys! Yes, I've got a lit of improvements I'd like to make for a final release, and sound effects are definitely part of it!
Doesn't work on Mac – tried opening it from Finder, didn't work. Then ran in console:
$ java ld33_osx-x64.jar
=> Error: Could not find or load main class ld33_osx-x64.jar
Wow.
Crushing chicken is weirdly addictive thanks to you.
Haha what a great idea! Love it!
Had me at the "not for big babies" xD
Also, you're a genius. Awesome writing, awesome sound, awesome art!
Really nice concept :-) Would be nice to have another slider besides violence. But I understand what you did here, in order to relate it to the theme.
I like the variation on the runner genre :) with some polish in the animations it could be really addictive!
Cool game man!
For a first Ludum Dare that's not bad at all :-)
I like that you managed to create a bit of a mood with simple sprites and music.
General feel could be better but that's the kind of aspect that takes days to get right!
Good try at a first game!
Good game overall :) Cool that you made music, but it's does get a bit annoying oO
I like your sound effect xD
I laughed.
Absolutely love the art/sound/gameplay!
Ok – first, huge respect for the idea. Then, huge respect for how you chose your medium – deeply artistic.
Watching your playthrough, I find it incredible how Sade's text mixed with the simple pixel art and sound effects gives a terribly disturbing feeling to the whole. Literally as if the castle were a metaphor for Sade's head in which monstruous scenes appear in textual bits.
*Applause*
I can't play match 3 when I'm laughing so hard. Awesome job!
Idea was great, but yeah, those controls though....
A bit puzzling?
I'm on mac :-(
It's fun and I like ninjas :) If you ever improve it add some cool ninja sound effects!
You need to set the google drive folder to public :)
Great art and love the writing! Well done!
+1 for FSM
+1 for description
+1 for randomness of audio :D
Game is quite cool – I mostly don't have a clue what's happening but I like to think I have control over my actions!
I always love me a nice Twine game :), and yours is a really good first! Make more games!
These slimes will haunt my nightmares.
Nice work otherwise :) It's pretty fun overall!
Idea is amazing! Would be really cool to see it developed more – love the art too!
Same as the rest
