Rogues Like Beer by NickZangus 2018-12-04T22:49:20Z
Absolutely superb! This feels really polished, incredible work for a LD jam. Any crits (small) have been made already, so all I can say is well done!

Hah, interesting game. I liked the dialog a lot. Nice one. (oh, and thanks for reviewing my game :) )
@the-magicarticho Thanks! @nightmaresdev Haha, it's amazing what being single and poor can do for productivity. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
@marc-grabow Thanks, the Romans were meant to be animated too, but I ended up making them simple pawns. I used to do 3D work for a job so I used Blender a lot. Monk was supposed to have a spell-casting animation but ran out of time for that too.
@sarwin oops! Argh, I should have put a clamp on the camera values. Sorry about that.
Hi guys, I think I have my mouse set super-sensitive in both Windows and OSX. I'll tone it down a bit which I think is in line with the rules. I already fixed a bug where you can fly offscreen as previously mentioned and a bit of old debug code which make trumpets blare if you hit spacebar.
Anyone else having the no sound issue? Can you let me know platform and browser?
@john-gabriel thanks, this is something I've learnt from in my "What went right/wrong post". I think I should probably have given no mana for converting, only for sacrifice, which would have made the concept more concrete. Thanks for playing and your thoughts!
@willbl3pic @game-mon @fede @wie @xarras @okuar Thank you! And thanks for playing, if I haven't checked your games by now I will do very soon!
@jharler Thanks, from the feedback I've had some great ideas of how to refine the game.
@aplite Cheers, I'm thinking that caves should only appear as a reward for winning towns. Also, it should be much harder to reach the Fortress. There's also a Mana balance issue I'd like to fix.
@mahalis thanks! I'll maybe add a sprint facility to the character. :)
@cerno-b Argh!!! I have no idea when the Audio thing got switched off!!! I seem to have accrued 26 votes before it switched off. I wonder whether to report it. That was not intentional and I don't remember disabling it. :( :( :(
Thank you everyone for your comments and ideas. I'll take them all on board.
Haha, having watched the series Hannibal recently this brought back horrible memories. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Really nice music as well.
Works great here! (Win 10) Very well done, love the audio (particularly when you touch something toasty  ). Well done.
I love to come across something like this once in a while on LD. I'd consider just silence rather than the sound when you hit space to make it a little more poignant. Very well done.
Very trippy indeed! I love the acoustic atmosphere and the art style. After reviewing several shooters or running games it's nice to see something more thoughtful and mystical.
Took me a while, but good fun once I worked it out. Excellent graphics and sound.
What a beautiful game! Visually very appealing, and the mechanic (for the most part) works really well. The not-respawning thing seemed to happen to me after disconnecting a tentacle. The starfish just falls and WASD makes no difference so I wonder if it's happening earlier on? Anyway, great work!
Took a little while to work it out, but then realised this is a nicely crafted game. The graphics and sound are absolutely top-notch, well done! I'm having a weird issue selecting the characters though? Seems like the selection doesn't always update when you press the cursor? Well worth developing into a commercial game, I think!
Haha, how delightfully arbitrary! Nice graphics and cute characters.
Wow, a lot of work went into this! I ended up playing this for a long time, such was the narrative and atmosphere of the game. Really nice game, well done.
Very good use of the theme! Some classy graphics and sound as well. Feels very epic.
Interesting idea, though a little more visual feedback, perhaps moving bar-chart and have the messages appear in a log at the bottom. Nice work though!
WOW! This is a seriously slick production. Quality I'd expect in a commercial game. Brilliant use of the theme. Tetris Attack, but with a Mayan theme. I'd (literally) buy that.
Very slick indeed! Haha, this reminds me why family games at Christmas always end up in arguments. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Great work. Would be nice if some extra cards or something could be used. Colorized already mentioned that above my comment and I agree.
Very high scores all round! Like a darker version of Lemmings  Played it through and felt it was very well balanced. Could use some number keys to quickly jump through options. Very well done!
Very VERY slick and polished production. Some great teasers in the level design too. Maybe a post-comp version with sound/music would complete the ensemble. Very nice work.
Haha! Quite aside from the fact the character reminds me of Terrance & Philip from South Park, this is actually quite a tricky game with some nice features like the slow-mo. Full marks for fun and innovation.
I love games with a swarming behaviour mechanic! Simple and fun, you did a great job here. Are the lighter areas of the map harder to traverse? I noticed some curious behaviour sometimes where they slowed down in places. Anyway, great work!
Agree with the idea that each crew member could be a different colour. What an outstandingly beautiful art and design though. Absolutely lush!
Good grief this is tough! But I love the concept though. If I have the arrow, am I missing a way to direct it on that turn or is it just the facing direction? Anyway, very slick production.
Very well done, and well timed as I've just finished reading the collected works of HP Lovecraft. A little difficult juggling all the abilities, but not unfairly so. Tough game, and good fun, well done! :octopus:
A nice play on a classic theme! At first I was like, "hmm, galax", but you fit it into the theme very well, and hence a high score from me. Great fun. Well produced.
Nice! Lemmings, that takes me back! Had a few physics issues, but otherwise I think you did a great job in the timescale. Nice number of levels.
Haha, love the dagger mechanic, nice visual effect. Reminds me a little of the 80s games like Roland in the Caves for some reason.
Congrats on your first LD! You have taken your first steps into a bigger world! Look forward to what you make in future. I think all the crits have already been made by everyone else, so welcome aboard!
Well done you guys! Great concept. I like the sound effect as well.
Very classy indeed. A nice theme take on a classic genre. Well done!
Fun little game! I agree that a few little FX are begging to be put in. I also agree with Vivien that the hardness goes up quite dramatically. Well done!
Haha, so it turns out I made the right choice not being a fireman! :D Very good sense of urgency with the music and visuals. At first was a bit confused about not being able to move vertically, but soon realised how the movement mechanic operated. Great job here.
Hehe, cool concept. The mechanics work very nicely, and I like the way the UI updates when you drag cards. I think this would be a game worth developing post-compo.
Very fun indeed! I liked the graphics and the elegant simplicity of the UI. As stated already, a little bit of sound would be nice. Very well done.
A very pretty game, with some nice ideas. I got stuck (literally) a few times in the scenery. Very nice work though.
Hehe, a slight Binding of Isaac vibe here? Had fun playing this, nice work, particularly for one hour!
Great use of the theme! Love the commentary as well as you chuck things out. Great job.
Excellent art and sound. A bit bewildered by the options when the game started. Could you guys do a Youtube video with a short playthrough? Looks like a lot of work went into this. (and thanks for reviewing my game :grinning:
Well... I think this is my favourite thus far! Aside from some little issues with the minions, and finding the keys a bit unweildy, you did a fantastic job here. High scores all round, looks, sounds and plays GREAT!
This is game is far deeper than it looks on first inspection! I really like the graphics and sound, very unique feel to it. Nice use of the theme.
What a delightful little game! I love the sound (the giggle!) and graphics. Controls were slightly strange, as Pat said, I think WASD would be a little easier to use. Well done!
Haha, creepy game. When I picked up one of the carriages, it actually got attached to the side of the train which got it stuck at the level crossing. Tried again after looking at the video and worked out a bit more how to play it. Nice work!
Yep, you need to set your game Public!
I'm keen to play this, but I get a small portion of the screen expanding the full size. Is there a .py I can edit to fix this? (Win10, high DPI screen, if that helps?)
Thanks @juutis , I'll try this again. :)
Oooh crikey this is tough. I love the theme, graphics, music and humour! Once I'm past the first boulder, I can't onto the next ledge. I'm sure this is intentional, but I'm uncertain what to do here? Great game though.
Loved the sound effects. Weird that I got 4280 million just like the screenshot... Nice work. :)
Very atmospheric! I see we both went for the deep choir ambience. Whilst not skipping, it would be good to be able to speed up or complete the text a bit. Didn't solve the puzzle though. I'll keep trying though! Great work.
Curious game, nice graphics. Not sure if shield was meant to protect from projectiles? Great work though.
Quite tricky, and took a while to get used to the mechanic of firing them. But when I did I found it a good, nicely-rounded game. Well done!
Really nice idea, with some cool graphics and pleasant sound. Only crit I have is the previously mentioned collision issues, particularly hard when under pressure. A lot of work went into this, so well done!
Haha, tough little game! Likewise, I like the way the bus steering handled, but perhaps a mechanic where the civilians at least attempt to avoid if they are a certain distance from the bus. So it really would be more down to bad driving than random civilian movement. Well done though!
Wow, this looks great. And a lot of work went into it. I got a farmer stuck at the top building? Couldn't get hold of him again? Anyway, the rest of the game works great. Very high polish, well done!
What a delightful game! Nothing more to add really than has already been said.
Haha, this is brilliant! At first I wasn't sure what was going on, but once I realised that it was clear how well thought out the game was. Well done!!
