Simple, but very fun! Though devilishly difficult - I think some temporary invincibility would improve this a bit. But it's true that delivery to Satan cannot be a piece of cake.
This is truly fun idea for a Jam game. It reminds me those old Newgrounds web browser games in like 2005 haha.
The art is amazing, the music is even better, and the game is weirdly addictive, yet so simple.
Side note, maybe it would be more fitting if you had to hide the pizza not to get destroyed, instead of using it as a shield? I mean your idea is GREAT, just something I was thinking about while playing :) Great entry guys.

@iluvatar Thanks for the feedback. We realized pretty late on that using the pizza box to block projectiles didn't really make any sense. We decided to keep it as is because we thought the current game play would be more intuitive.
I love the graphics and music! I'm terrible at playing it tho. :sweat_smile: Once I thought I got an extra cheese pizza cause I wouldn't lose anymore, but it just lets you go to the end and lose: NVIDIA_Overlay_CUEUrUEgM7.png

Hey we picked the same environment :D I love that you have voiceovers in your game! And it's nice how you have foreground structures that move in front of the background. The music was great, too. I do think the game should end when your pizza runs out of slices, because otherwise it's not great to have to finish the drive knowing my pizza is no good. But enjoyed the great atmosphere in this game!
@amberfall92 True, the decision to not have a proper loose condition was quite arbitrary. It would probably make more sense if there was because it's a little confusing what the point of the game is rn until you reach the end for the first time.

Fun premise and challenging gameplay- so challenging I couldn't win haha. Having to balance jumping and blocking was very difficult for me.
The music is well done- great quality and composition, but I personally felt it could've been more "hellish"- the harp trills in particular feel a bit out of place for the setting.
Graphics were excellent. The Satan artwork is particularly impressive. Something about the perspective of the road is a little off, making it almost seem rounded if that makes sense. I feel like the lavaballs could be a bit more interesting visually. The cityscape in the background and how it moves with the game is visually amazing.

This game explains why my pizzas are sometimes arriving banged up and I wont be complaining from now on :D This was a fun experience and I enjoyed my time with it.

I don't know if I'm just an old nostalgic fart, but this could be straight out of early 2000s Newgrounds, but with some seriously polished art and sound. The music adds so much to the vibe. Pizza from hell was not on my bingo card for today, but I’m very glad it happened.
I do think some small tweaks like a proper loss condition or maybe short invincibility frames could help smooth out the gameplay a bit more. You could experiment with different perspectives and parallaxing, but honestly, the weirdness is part of the charm. Would totally play an expanded version of this. Amazing job!

When it comes to gameplay, I wish the game would end when the pizza got ruined, without letting me ride to the end. Also, it would be nice to have a bit more variety in... lava balls?, like different sizes, idk. Or maybe some other obstacles. Right now it's a bit repetitive.
Overall, this is a nice game! And an intro cutscene adds a nice touch!

Please no one let me be a delivery driver. The soundtrack is absolutely addicting, but I wish the level didn't drag on for so long once I've lost. Maybe it would make the game more engaging to let the player gain back lives lost?
@vera-stepanyan You might be cooking with that idea. It was definitely a bit of a throw having no proper loose condition for the game (only a bad ending). But the idea to gain back lives is really cool, and might allow room for comebacks.
Goated soundtrack, found the gameplay fun, if there was more variation in projectiles and maybe some powerups that would be sick. Great game!

Sound track is dope, really suites the game, game play was fun and easy to understand. would be cool to see difficulty levels as the game was quite tough at points and a powerup would be cool too, all in all fun and atmospheric game :)
I love the music, and the artwork is also gorgeous. I needed to read the comments to realize one could jump, at first I though that was an issue with the game, but starting it fully over, I realized it was displayed on the screen at one point. After that I finally managed to deliver a pizza in an adequate quality.
Also, it's interesting how you and I both had the same story idea, and even the intro is almost the same. It felt a bit weird hearing the intro because of that.
It was hella fun and the concept made me laugh. But I'm terrible at driving and evading lava balls at the same time, sorry Satan but you'll get your pizza with a black crust...

mechanically very challenging, not everybody's cup of tea at this rate. Game doesn't tell you when you "die" except pizza is empty and then it doesn't reset, just runs through time. Had a lot of fun for like 5 tries. well done.

Okay this is great. Love the unfair feeling that really fits the Hell vibes. Love the audio, the creative mechanics, and the "story". The road obstacles could be a bit more visually distinct from the flying ones, as some folks like myself have difficulty with visual sorting, but otherwise very frictionless, fun gameplay!

Cool game! I like mixing the mechanics from Pong into a pizza delivery. Satan looks hella handsome. I'm a little confused why hitting the car makes the pizza go bad but hitting the pizza doesn't. Anyways, it's a great mini game with high degree of completion.

Yay really fun entry ! The gameplay is simple but works fine !, it's just quite hard to see the obstacles on the floor when i'm looking everywhere to move my pizzabox but it sure was fun. The aesthetics is so 2000' old flash games, i love it hahaha. Music is really nice too! Nice job !

The art is amazing! I appreciate the simple controls. The parallax is great and really helps add to the feeling of motion and pushes it into a greater feeling of something. The gameplay is engaging and feels right. The execution on the idea works. I couldn't win, but enjoyed my time. Great one.
Fun little game, definitely agree with others that it has the nostalgic feeling of those 2000s Flash games. Took me back to the old Neopets games. It took a few tries but once you get a hang of it and concentrate it's perfectly beatable.
Also the music slaps, this must be the jam part of "game jam".

I love the premise hahaha the voice acting in the beginning is exceptional. The gameplays really engaging too - having to jump as well as block kept me locked in the whole time during my runs. Music BANGS too. Great entry, thanks for making it!!

I felt like it lacked variety — both in what was happening and in the gameplay overall. The idea is fun though, and I really loved the music — it was a big reason I kept playing!

@sylf Yes the game is definitely lacking content. We initially planned to do multiple circles of hell, and have some enemies which shoot at you. We had a bit of extra time to implement all this but our artists wouldn't have time to make so many high quality assets.
Hell and pizzas goes so well together I feel like having different heights and inclines would make it more interesting and make you sweat harder but I enjoy the difficulty when it ramps up !

@nomus Oh yeah I completely forgot about that. Originally there was supposed to be gaps and change in heights of the roads. I might actually add that once rating ends because it should be pretty simple to implement.

It's surprisingly fun! Music is really great. Intro is also really cool (although tutorial was a bit too fast I had to restart). I like it to be hard given the context, tho 90s per run may be a bit long for this (not sure, cause at the same time the satisfaction to beat it gets greater then). Demon artwork is really nice, weirdly the environment (while fine for a jam) feels of lesser quality. Maybe less time on the artwork but more on the rest would have been slightly better. Great job!
A fun arcade-style game--the pizza shield mechanic was neat! I agree with some other commenters that the environment art felt a little bit lesser quality than the opening cutscene art.

Hahaha, great concept! The simplicity, gameplay, art style all took me back 20 years ago to the golden age of Flash games and I certainly welcome it. The game knows what it wants to be and does it well. Greatly executed, I enjoyed this a lot. Fantastic job!
@yorsh Yeah the tutorial is pretty shoehorned in. Unfortunately our game probably pissed off a lot of people who didn't realise they could jump over the obstacles on the road.
Nice game! I think you have room to make it a Bennett Foddy type of game. Add curves, effects and events that make it harder to orient the shield. Well done!
I'll take an acceptable quality. First run I lost all the pizza but the game kept going so that was weird.
Interesting concept. Graphics were very cool, but the background art being so busy did make it a little more difficult to see the obstacles. I liked the detail of the pizza box shield hugging the car for the most part, instead of just moving in a circle. Good work!

I really like the background art in this game. The music was fitting and I like the short story section at the beginning of the game.
Sometimes I had the feeling that the chance of evading the lava balls was zero, because they were coming from different directions at once.
Apart from that the game loop was fun and I like that you chose a pizza as a health bar. :)
@lllarso Yeah the projectiles can be too difficult sometimes. You pretty much need to have a lucky run to get to the "good ending". We were trying to fix that but ran out of time, so currently the projectiles just spawn around the edges of the screen and go in random directions. Thanks for playing!

I just don't get it. What do you have to do to avoid damage? You can only jump and reflect projectiles with your shield, but jumping can effectively dodge lower obstacles, and the shield takes damage if you reflect a projectile with it.
@oeuegha The shield isn't supposed to take damage when you reflect a projectile with it (even though that makes no sense). Does this happen consistently? Because I'm unable to replicate it in the web builds.
Perhaps your mistaking the sound effect that gets played when you reflect a projectile for a hit sound?
@oeuegha Sorry for confusing, i've replayed now and realize that it is timer in up right corner (timer is simultaneously reducing when fireball is hitting a car and i thought it was car's hp).
My pizza slices in the top left ran out but nothing happens, I'm not sure if the pizza is supposed to stay protected or be the shield. It seems like when I use it as a shield, it still loses pizza slices in the top left. Funny concept and naming parody of Helldivers 2.
