Very cute. The audio was very soft and hard to hear. The graphics were simple and pleasant. Not very challenging, but fun.

Very cute. The audio was very soft and hard to hear. The graphics were simple and pleasant. Not very challenging, but fun.
Music was nice, all the audio fit well, had a nice calming vibe to it. The graphics were consistent, but the art style was not my cup of tea, unless you're really zoomed in a lot of the smaller aspects kinda clip and don't look good. The little text descriptions on everything was a really nice touch. Not my favorite use of the theme personally, but it fits just fine. Took me a few minutes to figure everything out, but it was pretty straightforward and I didn't run into any major issues. I think overall it's a well-made game, so good job. :)
Lovely color scheme, art is simplistic and nice, wish the dots were little dwarf heads, love the audio lines and the inclusion of the mining noises, the music is very simple and the chord changes are a bit jarring. Fits into the theme very well! After reading the rules and playing around, I couldn't figure out how everything worked for a decent bit.
@dhavavambra I've never done art for a game and I haven't done art seriously in many many years, we would greatly appreciate specific feedback about what in particular within the aesthetics you find abrasive so that I can improve next go around. For example, is the the life/sandwich count font? The beach graphics? The title or end screen? Color choices?
Or if you want to answer one specific question, what part of the game did you feel was far less than what was expected of a 72-hour build, where do you think we dropped the ball?
For any interested, you can listen to the music track I created for the game by itself here. :) https://soundcloud.com/elizabeth-biz-diedrick/beach-invaders
@tudvari thank you so much! There's so much we could have done with it given more time, but hopefully next go around we're able to implement more within the time limit :)
@coleslaughter AW yeah here's our high score holder with a whopping 303!
Thanks so much for playing the game, the reactions made me so happy.
@commanderstitch Thank you! I wanted to make a battle theme with beachy elements, and ended up mixing in some seagull sounds to give it that extra pizazz. SO happy the music is being noticed. ^~^
@coleslaughter Probably my favorite moment- https://clips.twitch.tv/BombasticGlutenFreeTrianglePeanutButterJellyTime-QoKbmaRoXcCcztHz
Very very cute, love the bathtub idea, it is delightful. Wish there was a better indication of health and when you've gotten hit. Music is good, love how intense it is compared to the surroundings, maybe wish it was a little more "piratey" but that's just a thought. This would be such a fun, silly multiplayer game to play with friends.
The slow jam guitar and upright bass track was GETTING IT. As a Logic Pro user, I'm impressed at how close to an actually produced recording it sounds. The only thing I could ask there is some more hellish motifs, like dark pads, distant cackles or growling, screaming, the lick of distant hellfire... Love the door ring, crowd noise, and the coffee pouring sound, very atmospheric.
Visually it looks wonderful, the red/dark color scheme is really lovely. The "nice" tables / the customers are probably the low point graphically for me, but really it's wonderful.
I couldn't figure out how to get people to sit down or order after coming in. I thought having a worker in the greeter slot would do it, but they just kept standing at the front. It fixed when I restarted the game though. It's a pretty slow start, would be nice to have a fast forward function. More variety in the customers could've been nice as well. I was surprised when having the MC help the cashier made everything so much faster than having her hop around whatever role was behind. Feels like a bug, but maybe that's intended?
Really great job making this by yourself! Very impressive. Very cozy little game. :)
Very cute, somebody else mentioned the slow speed of the projectiles above, but it was a nice challenge! Running around and shooting things is always a good time. The environment is a little bland, but the characters are adorable. :)
@violetdreams I'm so happy to hear you like the SFX! Thank you for your kind words. :)
I wish I could delete accidentally sent posts :)
@13x666 I'm generally Pro-AI art and personally would feel no shame in openly using and saying we used AI art. That being said, we had an artist, she delivered the assets, I personally edited a couple of them. Our artist is sharing her process and one of the others has posted it in response to another comment. From your comments I thought you were a troll honestly, but I see you do have some LD work so I'm just baffled you would insist there's no possibility that you're wrong. That's a bold and arrogant stance to take, especially on a game made for fun, for a game jam. Whole lot of social clout we're earning here, I'm sure! But you're free to think whatever you think, and everybody can choose who they believe.
@13x666 Of course there's going to be resistance when you accuse people of lying. You presented us as knowingly deceiving and taking credit. People tend to want to defend themselves against such accusations. That being said and your methods of engagement aside, the base art was entirely the product of Quill, I'm going to leave any further defense up to her. Unlike Bal, I don't know her well, and I only added some light edits to the finished assets she provided. I will say she represented the art as her own to me and the rest of the team, and that's all we have to go off of. I hope she'll show some proof once she's back from her trip, but I can't claim to know what she'll do or the sincerity of her work until such comes to pass.
What I DO know for sure is that I put a whole lot of work into this, and I don't want that to be overshadowed by this debacle. I appreciate that you still rated us in the other categories, and for anybody reading, I understand if some prefer to leave a category unrated for similar reasons.
@outstar Composer/SFX artist here, thank you so so much! :) I had a lot of fun challenging myself to write an orchestral piece, which I chopped into sections for different parts of the game. If you're interested, you can find the full track here! https://on.soundcloud.com/ze6VZS5BL4uyqE899
Yeah, the whole debacle was stressful, but we're not letting it devalue the work we did put into the game, and we'll (Me, Bal, and Frank) still be participating in the future jams.
That would have been a great thing to implement given more time, certainly. :D Though, I'd probably get distracted pitching more endings, haha. Really appreciate your thorough feedback, hope you're having a wonderful day. <3
@andrewkennedy Thank you! I'm by no means a professional artist but Bal keeps making me do the art anyways. All of that wheat is very amusing! Glad you had a good time.
Super cute and funny game. Solid mechanics. Fun to play. Wish there was more in the realm of sfx and music but overall very well done! Great job. :)
The premise of the game is very amusing, so lots of props for creativity there. Punching all the mushrooms dudes felt very satisfying.
I wish the art was a little more consistent- the in-game art, cutscene art, and title screen art all being different styles (presumably AI?) but the game isn't being judged for graphics anyhow. The voice lines were pretty good for AI as well. The cut from the cutscene to the game itself feels a bit jarring.
Simple, amusing, and fun, good work!
Fun premise and challenging gameplay- so challenging I couldn't win haha. Having to balance jumping and blocking was very difficult for me.
The music is well done- great quality and composition, but I personally felt it could've been more "hellish"- the harp trills in particular feel a bit out of place for the setting.
Graphics were excellent. The Satan artwork is particularly impressive. Something about the perspective of the road is a little off, making it almost seem rounded if that makes sense. I feel like the lavaballs could be a bit more interesting visually. The cityscape in the background and how it moves with the game is visually amazing.
Great job!
@andrewkennedy Thank you so much!! Yeah, I too had the same issue with ammo/melee and we did talk about it, but ended up not changing anything in the onslaught of everything we needed to get done. I'm glad you showed those bees who's boss! Or I suppose in their case, queen? :P I'm so glad you enjoyed the game and again, thank you so much for the comment, it means a lot. Let us know if you end up trying endless mode, and how far you're able to get if so! :)
@siilicac Thank you! I was really proud of the hearts haha. I was delighted when I figured out one of the instruments I chose sounded like a bee when I oscillated between two notes on it, so I had to include that in the music. I really appreciate you taking the time to play, and your comments about the art and audio! <3
@oxnh My main method in many of my playthroughs was just running around the bees to the exit and seeing if I could make it so I feel you there haha. Were you playing the web build version, or the desktop itch.io window version perchance? I don't believe that issue comes up in the downloaded versions, but I'm curious to know. Thank you for your comment and I hope you had a great time playing! :) I'm so glad you liked the animations, I amused myself with the death animation in particular.
@bangkerpow Aw, it's so awesome to get a video to watch! The punch is definitely difficult to use unfortunately, we just didn't have time to fix it up. Thank you so much for the compliments and I'm so glad you enjoyed the game!
@balimaarthebassfish I think there's an issue with the health pickup only being in the right ear which I think was a mistake on my end, and the going down the hole sound only being in the left, which I'm less sure about without checking.
The audio is really well done in this game. Everything has appropriate sound and the levels are balanced well. The music is nice. The visuals are simple, but everything fits together, it's clean, and the animations are satisfying. I'm not really feeling the theme or gameplay personally, but there's a lot of promise in the other elements. Good work. :)
It didn't launch in fullscreen which was odd (application bar still showing) (windows) and there wasn't a way to fix that, but it wasn't a huge deal. The starting poem only read the first line or so before harshly cutting to the game itself with a very loud noise- the audio balancing is definitely an issue.
Beyond that though, it's a really solid game. I think the most impressive aspect is the mood- it hits is so well with the low gravelly tired voice, the atmospheric music, and the light and dark visuals. The anchor looks a little too 3D-mold for my personal taste and a little out of place visually, but the game definitely hits feeling in a way that works very well for it. I didn't mind the lack of a UI personally, the light going out and not knowing when it's done really encourages you to keep rushing for the next source of light.
Great job!
I really hope Julio's snail doesn't get outside. Very lovely game. Simple, straightforward narrative, and a touching message. There wasn't a lot of gameplay involved and the button mashing to keep from crying I think fell short just a tiny bit as a mechanic, but overall the game was beautifully done. As someone who struggles with holding back emotions, especially crying in front of people, I really appreciate the intent of the game. Great job! <3
What a neat take on the theme. :D I love how the ants move to the beat, and I particularly like the sfx for the bad smell / soldiers haha. It's a bit difficult to know if you're on the right track, and what's going on sometimes, but the game is overall very charming. A longer/more varied musical loop would've been nice. I appreciate how well it fits with the concept and visuals. I played for a good while but only managed to have the ants get the pinecone, out of the objectives, despite putting yellow scents around what I believed to be the quest objects. Love the creativity here. :)
The art is so lovely, the overall look of the game is so pleasing. I wish there were music and menu sound, but the audio that is there fits well and creates a great atmosphere. This is a solid entry, great job. :)
