LD39 — Running out of Power

Coffy by NickZangus 2017-08-02T22:53:27Z

Too bad that I am quite bad in this genre. Got overwhelmed really fast by the orders. ^^ Really impressed that you could produce such a well polished game during the game jam. The graphics and the music match really well. The control felt also very smooth.

Lionel's Weekend by nidup 2017-08-02T23:45:31Z

Really nice idea. I like the approach of mixing platformer with memory and sound cues. The glowing pairs of glasses were really helping. Was scared the first time that I have do it without any position indication. ^^ The ladders were a little bit difficult to move up in the darkness, though. Besides that, great work. :)

Last Sunset by piscythe 2017-08-22T14:38:10Z

Cool game. Really like the graphic and the music, especially the boss theme. They both build a very good atmosphere for your Egyptian theme. Got totally absorbed into the game that I forgot that I had a nova attack. ^^ The different attacks felt well balanced and the switch between the weapon mode felt very natural. I don't know how the power mechanic was intended, but for me it just felt like that power are just my hitpoints, because the power drain of the shots was really low, so in the end I just kept firing.

All in all very well polished game. Great work, I really liked playing it. :)

PowrConnectr by JOrbits 2017-08-03T23:32:22Z

Simple mechanics, but very well designed levels with increasing difficulty. Sound and Graphics also fit quite well. Got a little bit stuck in the level where one needs to power sources to power one node, until I figured that out. Great work. :)

No Sorcerer's Sky by TheFlyingKeyboard 2017-08-01T11:44:25Z

Yeah, it would have been nice to have a tutorial. Took me some time to understand something. What I got so far: You can click on the asteroids to gather scraps and exchange the scraps with the Alchemy to resources. One can exit upgrade menus with escape. However, one looses energy quite fast. But, I found now a good way to survive the problem. In the beginning don't build anything just collect scraps. Then wait for the big asteroid coming on the left where one can build a energy mine (it collects energy on its own). This is needed for building the solar panel. As soon you see the asteroid build the Alchemy and convert the necessary resources for a solar panel. After you have a solar panel start to convert energy crystals into energy. With that I was able to survive the energy loss. I even got to states where I had over 100%. :D However, at some point the big asteroid on the left crashed down onto the earth. I still got energy from my energy mine that brought be to some point where I could not run out of energy any more. ^^

No Sorcerer's Sky by TheFlyingKeyboard 2017-08-01T11:44:32Z

Edit: Doublepost, due to lagging website. Sorry for that.

Solar defense by kpded 2017-08-09T16:42:50Z

Simple but nice. Would have been nice if one could speed up the game, because it takes some time to get to the third night. Had some troubles first until I understood that one needs to turn off the towers with left click in order to generate power properly. But after figuring it out everything went smoothly. Some more complexity would have been interesting, e.g. that a battery can only power surrounding towers or that solar panels need to be somehow connected to the battery to power the battery.

HE BEAT HER. by Angela He 2017-08-03T22:22:04Z

Wow, really impressive entry. Would not have thought that such a level of polish is possible during a game jam. The art is just stunning. The case was very interesting, I really wanted to solve it while playing.

From the gameplay it reminded me a little bit of Event 0, where one also needed to enter commands. Also would have liked if theme was more visible throughout the game.

All in all really well done. :)

Extincti by FooMar 2017-08-02T23:09:26Z

Simple but very addictive. I really like the idea. Had a lot of fun playing it. Great work. :)

15 Minutes by TJ Reynolds 2017-08-02T15:31:57Z

Good effort for your first game. The flickering text is adding an additional layer of difficulty. ;) Some more riddles would have been great.

The Visible City by Colestia 2017-08-01T12:19:55Z

Nice game, I really liked the mood of the game. Would have liked to have more police unit. ^^

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Grey Goo by kleinzach 2017-12-11T15:12:08Z

Nice idea. I really like your approach of combining clicker / idle games with story. As said already said, after reading the first news it was a little bit like I know where this story going. But it was well written and so kept me emerged and playing. I can imagine that balancing this game was challenging. I have one additional feedback though, the textsize of descriptions of the items that you can buy could have been a little bit larger.

All in all Good job.

Headstuck by fullmontis 2017-12-15T15:15:16Z

I really like your take on visual novels and implementation. I am very impressed how good you managed to create the mood and atmosphere just with simple graphics and dialog. I think it would have been even greater if there was some background music. Also sometimes I had the feeling that the drag and drop was not working 100% properly. All in all great job, I really enjoyed playing your game.

Mr. Capital! by fluidvolt 2017-12-11T16:34:40Z

Nice simple puzzle platformer, which fits the theme really well. I really like your idea with the coin mechanic. As already mentioned I would have loved it if the jumping passages were sometimes a little bit more forgiving. All in all good job!

Glitched by tomer_cool 2017-12-12T13:58:01Z

Interesting idea and well executed. I like general idea and the variety of visual glitches you presented. Would have been even more interesting if there were some glitches which influence the game play stronger. Such as jumping at the right time such that the glitch will warp your position slightly to the right to reach a platform one could not reach without the glitch. Or use the time slowing down glitch to make a difficult jump cascade easier. All in all well done!

Miiiaaawww by miaw 2017-12-05T18:36:24Z

Came for here for cats, found some. :) The control of the canon was a little difficult for me. Also I would have expected that cats shot through the ceiling will fall down again through gravity.

Cat Clicker by Mr.MadCat 2017-12-05T20:05:04Z

@smbe19 Sorry to hear that. :/ In this case you have to restart the game via the menu. The tutorial was added in a cloack-and-dagger operation, shortly before the jam ended. So there is still this bug left. :(

Cat Clicker by Mr.MadCat 2017-12-05T20:13:26Z

@mshopf Thanks for your feedback! Yeah at first (before balancing all the numbers) we only had one screen with everything. But it felt a little too cramped so we added scrolling. However, after balancing I agree with you that one does not need such a large house. Maybe the cat lady just wanted to show off her house. ;)

Cat Clicker by Mr.MadCat 2017-12-09T21:45:50Z

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback. Glad that you liked it. :)

@Sibi Yeah, we increased the quest rewards heavily during playtesting. Maybe a little bit too much. ^^ On the other hand we wanted to make sure that one can finish the game in a reasonable time between 5-10 min.

Crazy Cat Lady: Full Throttle: Reloaded with a Revengence(?) by Shaolin Dave 2017-12-05T18:52:14Z

Meooow! Really felt the pain of the theme when all the cats were blocking the old lady in narrow corridors. ^^ By the way was there a way to save the cats which are trapped in rooms without any way to access them? Because I was not able to save them. :/

Dish Rush by WirkilichKeinBaum 2017-12-05T18:24:43Z

Really well done. :) I like the idea of a simple but challenging mechanics put together in a funny humorous well polished setting. Keep up the great work!

Too bad that I am not good at balancing dishes. :/

Booyah Bass by Caffeinated Psychics 2017-12-08T13:00:55Z

Came for cats found a lot of them. :)

Graphics: Nice art style, I really like your cats. However, your ingame cats look from the top down perspective a little bit weird especially if you turn your character.

Music and sound: I think they are well matched and the level music fits very good to your general atmosphere. It felt like I was playing some good old retro game. :) I also like how the level music progresses with the time and becomes hectic.

Enemies: As already said, the enemies felt a little bit slow in my opinion and gave me the feeling that they weren't scary at all, since you could easily dodge them. Maybe it would have been good to have multiple types of enemies. Some who move faster or some which chase you for a certain limited time regardless if they in the alert range or not. I liked the exclamation mark on the enemies, though. Remembered me of good old Metal Gear Solid. ^^

All in all a solid fun well polished game. Keep up the good work!

Booyah Bass by Caffeinated Psychics 2017-12-15T15:18:15Z

@ogma Sorry, for the late reply. I was playing the web version.

Booyah Bass by Caffeinated Psychics 2017-12-15T18:57:11Z

@Ogma No problem. :) I was playing on some older version of Firefox on my Laptop with Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit). I am not sure if I had the hardware acceleration enabled or not. I just ran it with the new version of Firefox 57.0.1 and here I have the same observations.

I will describe the enemy behaviour a little bit, why I think it feels slow. Because I don't know if that it is the bug you are searching for or if that is maybe just my perception and in reality intended. ^^ The enemy sometimes only turn themselves first towards the main character, while not moving and only start moving after 3-4 sec. Sometimes they also immediate start to move towards you. However, in both patterns their movement speed seems quite slow, because it is maybe around 10% of the main characters normal movement speed, so you can easily outrun them.

Chuckles, the Word Juggler by SecretPocketCat 2017-12-20T09:45:28Z

Really happy that someone went with typing games, as I really like them. I think you did really well implementing your idea. As a small feedback when I was playing the game the first time I got little bit irritated from the | and thought at first that is part of the word, before I understood that it is just an additional position marker.

KITTEN SITTER by sadsmile 2017-12-08T00:12:20Z

Came for cats found some. :) Funny to see that someone had quite the similar idea as we did and to be able to compare our approaches. ^^ I like your approach with scrolling and needing to feed and clean every cat individually. In our idea we weren't able to make good use with our scrolling feature. I think some additional cat sounds would have been good to increase the stress factor and on the same time as a sound cue if a cat is hungry, wants to play or needs to be cleaned. Overall good job!

Phobos by Yokimbo 2017-12-06T23:38:18Z

Simple but nice idea which fits to the theme. Kept trying to get more than 8. But things just escalated too quickly. ^^ I like the art style and atmosphere. Felt like I was playing some old arcade game. Would have loved a little bit more variation in the music though.

Friends.OS by Rob White 2017-12-11T23:53:27Z

Nice implementation of the idea of having "friends" who take all your attention. We had some similar idea in the beginning, but threw it away since we wanted to design a card game around the idea. I really like your atmosphere with the flickering image, grey colour, subtle sound and tiny details such as the bloody lava lamp or the 666 on the wall. From a game play perspective I would have liked it if the game would give you a little bit more time during the tutorial to perform the task, because things escalated a little bit quickly.

All in all good job on your entry.

Scrooge the Cat by clayzulah 2017-12-07T17:18:12Z

Simple but fun game with increasing difficulty. Took me some trials until I managed to empty all of Scrooge's pocket. :) Graphic, sound and music match really good with each other giving me the atmosphere of Christmas. I also like the idea that after spending all your coins on one cat it becomes your "enemy" since you don't want to pick them up again. Moreover, small things such as the animated snow in the menu, the loading screen and the countdown made the game felt more complete to me.

All in all a well polished game with a nice simple mechanic. Good job!

Inky Pinky Square by Psychedelia 2017-12-06T22:35:08Z

Nice idea with spawning more squares when you die. It really fits well to the theme. I think it got a little bit too hard with 3 squares though to finish the game. Would have loved some place in the level where I can gather or stack them properly again after some difficult jumps. Because sometimes they just diverged so much that it was almost impossible to jump. But in most part I like your level design since it considered all 3 cases with one, two and three squares. All in all you did well for the first time. Keep up the good work!

Squares & Hexes by Tom Robson 2017-12-06T22:49:55Z

Nice game. Had a lot of fun playing it. I really liked how you set up the atmosphere of the game using the art-style, music and text fonts. Felt really like I was playing some old retro game. I think it was good that you included the level count. That was really motivating for me and kept me playing until I reached the end. Would have loved if the levels where you have to almost jump immediately would give you a little bit of more time to do so. I also liked that you used your first level as kind of a tutorial. Would have loved it though when there would have been some explanation for the hexes, which you can pickup. Because I didn't get it at first that they speed you up.

All in all keep the up the good work!

Cat Saviour: The Rain Is Coming by Pavel Smejkal 2017-12-06T23:22:10Z

Nice game. Had some troubles in level 2 though. Took me some time to understand what the switches are doing on the left. I thought at first that I have to somehow make the jump. Maybe it would have been good to have an additional sound cue for the moving platforms. Besides that I had fun solving the puzzles.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Rogues Like Beer by NickZangus 2018-12-08T17:33:20Z

This game is quite perfect, especially for a development time of 72 hours! Graphics are very appealing, physics are fun. And the theme has been realized in an original, fitting way. I'm really amazed what some people can create in such a short time. Really an entry worth playing. I will recommend it.

Saving Oskar by markusfisch 2018-12-08T22:55:03Z

Cute little game! The concept is simple but playing it was a lot of fun. The graphics are appealing and the sheep sounds are adorable! The sheep owners are a pain in the ass though. But overall I found the game to be well balanced.

Get down Mr President! by GenericToast 2018-12-08T19:43:23Z

Cool game idea! I found it to be entertaining. But I got stuck in Level 3 because I thought it was a good idea constantly pushing my president, so that he would walk faster. In the end he got stuck at the bottom of the map in the right corner and didn't move anymore. :D

Shadow Lands by Mr.MadCat 2018-12-08T11:57:21Z

@peachtreeoath Thanks for the feedback! Yeah this time we focussed on polishing and getting a game without any gamebreaking bugs - I hope we succeed there :), such that we didn't have enough time to explore the mechanics further. But we would have loved to.

And yeah we had a lot of fun with creating the sound and animation for the sacrifice. :)

Shadow Lands by Mr.MadCat 2018-12-08T12:02:09Z

@charlie-cr Thanks for the feedback and the hint. When I was designing the stones, I already varied the fallspeed. But somehow I didn't think of something simple as varying the scale of the boulder. ^^ (Note taken for the next time)

hiJack by SecretPocketCat 2018-12-08T00:30:55Z

Nice game. I had some problems with the controls in the beginning. After figuring the dynamics out it worked well. I like the atmosphere of the game and the spheric background music.

hiJack by SecretPocketCat 2018-12-08T00:44:44Z

@secretpocketcat Could be a problem on my side but the ship felt heavier than I thought when I tried to rotate it/turn it around. Apart from that everything was smooth.

Nature is Harsh by hav24 2018-12-08T01:53:59Z

Wow this is really a high quality game! The approach is matching the theme very well. (We had a similar concept but in our case we were sacrificing friends to reach our goals. :) ) Graphics, music and narrator are just on point. I really had to laugh out loud about the funny sounds and the faces the monkeys made. And the riddles are fun, too. It's a beautiful and entertaining piece of art.

Limbs are Limited! by EggshellDog 2018-12-08T15:18:31Z

Great idea. The idea of the main character losing limbs came to us, too, but we did not figure out how to make a whole game from this. Your game is a cool realization of that idea. And the characters look really funny and bouncy. I like the physics of the game. However, I got difficulties completing Level 4. Maybe I'm just not good at using the mechanics of the game.

Limbs are Limited! by EggshellDog 2018-12-09T18:13:15Z

@goldranger Thank you, this definitely helps! :)

Soul Traveller by Jiri Hysek 2018-12-08T14:49:21Z

Some cool graphics and sounds you got there. I especially liked the moving shadows. The mood is very dark and consistent. I also like your approach to the theme and the idea of possessing bodies. :) Sadly, for me it was not too much fun because I suck at riddles. And I got stuck at some point. But overall it's a cool game.

Omitl by Rkuhl 2018-12-08T02:10:41Z

I really liked the graphics and the sounds of the skeletons crushing. Very entertaining game. After getting better at fighting the skeletons pretty fast I had trouble fighting the not-so-easy boss. But I guess this is the purpose of a boss fight. :) The music is catchy and does not get boring.

DEEP IN HELL by Pierre.F 2018-12-08T16:58:15Z

Lol this game is fun. I loved blasting everything. The music is simple but it doesn't get boring in my opinion. Overall the game has a nice retro vibe.

Archibald's Snobbish Journey by Thomas_Bringer 2018-12-08T01:16:16Z

I really enjoyed the theme and the graphics of the game. Everything is so bouncy and colorful! The music sounds cool but to me, after a while, it became a bit repetitive. Maybe also because I played the game several times. Your main character looks really cute, especially when he's crying. Overall a great game which was fun and fits the theme very well.

Rain Away by hechi 2018-12-08T19:34:31Z

Fun game with nice graphics. The music was very fitting although the flute after some time hurt my ears a bit so I lowered the volume. :) Some kind of save point would've been nice because you need several tries to get through.

Cull the herd (HTML Game) by Ninnec 2018-12-06T22:36:17Z

Interesting concept. I like the idea of breeding your own avatar. However the jump and run part was quite difficult for me. I think less levels but a little bit more fluent controls would have been better.

The Pursuit of Profit by jcroisant 2018-12-08T00:40:52Z

A very dark and extremely capitalistic approach which fits the theme of the game jam very well. :) I enjoyed playing it, although I felt like a pig while throwing the babies. The graphics are very unique and fitting. The music supports the dark mood of the game perfectly.

The Vault by DWaM 2018-12-08T16:20:56Z

Although I couldn't play it through (got stuck at the symbols/code-thingy), I think it's a really cool idea to make a story-based game. I could definitely feel the mood and enjoyed reading the well-written texts. A game that really pulls you into its world. Will come back and try to solve it together with a friend.

Update: In the end my friend and I were able to solve it. (SPOILER) The note from the frog really gave us some headaches but we made it through. After that it went pretty smooth. Great game!
