Nicely drawn sprites. The gameplay needs a lot of work. Is the "L" key supposed to pray? It doesn't seem to do anything. Nevertheless, I had fun deliberately jumping _onto_ the obstacles and getting kicked wildly into space by a big hoplite boi. :sheep: :comet:
I'm going to be dreaming about wobbly bird butts all month.
Amazing soundtrack, very good artwork, and solid execution of the scrolling shooter genre. The pilot portraits and dialogue before and after each level made me feel connected to the characters, so that there was some emotional impact when they were sacrificed, rather than just losing a weapon type. Very smart design choice.
I was not able to finish the game due to a freeze during level 4 right after the boss appeared and the music started. It seemed to flash back to the start of the first level (not sure if intentional), then froze. Despite this it is a very good submission. Nice work!
The artwork and audio is top notch, and the character design is so original and creative! The gameplay (especially fall speed) needs balancing, but you know that already. :smile_cat:
Nice work! The graphics and audio are simple but very effective in supporting the mood of the game. It just needs gameplay balance, which you already know.
I have never been so emotionally invested in a goat before. When I hit a bug (using the non-fixed version) on my first playthrough, I was devastated. I downloaded the fixed version and played through 5 more times until I saved my darling Goat. Love is real. :goat:
The concept and writing are of course where the game shines. The visuals and minigame are satisfactory to support the story. Overall a very strong LD game. Nicely done!
Even though you didn't finish, you've earned my respect for using Rust in a game jam.
You deserve infinity stars for the cat animations and the little "prrrp" sound it makes when it lands. :heart_eyes_cat: Very cute game, and a good, uncommon interpretation of the theme.
A good start. The pixel art is very good but you should scale up the sprites so we can appreciate it better. The music and sfx are simple but effective. Would have liked to see more of the "sacrifice" theme. Good luck on your in-town competition!
Great music, it really enhances the mood. Very good pixel art for your first time. I would like if there was more sacrifices necessary. I completed the game without sacrificing any items.
Lovely artwork, music, and sound. The gameplay is not very innovative, but the powers system is a novel addition that works well. Decent puzzle design. Of course, if there were more time in the jam, I'd love to see more levels. All aspects of the game fit together into a coherent and polished whole, which is quite an accomplishment. Very nice submission!
P.S. The credits gave me a real laugh.
Very original concept, and good artwork! It took a few tries to learn the effects of the power ups, but I think that was part of the fun. I wish there was more sacrifice, though.
Love the gameplay mechanics, especially the arrow. Very clever and fun! Keep developing it and turn it into a full game!
Hire a lot of cheap labor, work them 24 hours a day, then sacrifice them to Satan when they get burnt out. This is the most accurate simulation of the tech labor market I have ever seen.
Nice job on your first jam!
**ALL HAIL MOOGRAMAL**
I love the models, especially the little hats on the animals. The contrast between the cuteness and the grimness is fantastic.
Tower defense? More like *flower* defense, amirite? :smirk:
Very creative and unusual characters and setting. Great pixel art and animations. Unfortunately the gameplay needs a lot of work, and I don't really see a connection to the theme. Even so, it's nice work for a compo submission!
@kambing Yes, you've got it! Sacrifice the babies to earn as much money as you can, until your creation catches up with you and there's no where else to run. There are a few different endings depending on your actions!
Anyone who is seeing flickering, please try using Firefox. It seems to be broken in Chrome. I will try to fix it tomorrow.
@fireslash Thank you for the thoughtful critique! I had many gameplay ideas I hoped to implement, which would have made it more interesting and reinforced the message. Unfortunately, under the pressure of a game jam... sacrifices must be made.
