It's a fun game, even though the idea is not very original. Fits the teme very well, music is good, and it's fun and easy to play. Good job!

Nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/1t-6rdylBrI

cool music!! All bad guys are saying "yes" in russian, perhaps it would be cool to have some different types and chars of enemies ... perhaps some really crazy ones like aliens and illuminati lolol ... this could become a very cool crazy game

paulhocker 2018-12-07 05:30

very well done -- really liked the use of the theme and you made it fun without being too political -- awesome game -- thanks for making it

Very funny game, i loved it! xD great idea!

shulololo 2018-12-08 08:12

This game is pretty fun. I pretty bad at the game because I can't seem to get the dives done at the right time. Great job!

sadzanenyama 2018-12-08 09:08

Nice game! Probably one of the funniest I've found so far! Those suicide Russians are really hard to stop! Well done

corbak 2018-12-08 09:34

This is quite original! Graphics are cute and fun, gameplay is easy to learn hard to master. I love that the president just doesn't care at all what happens around him and just walks around to put up some flags, this is hilarious XD

Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on the fourth day of Ludum Dare streams. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://goo.gl/N2rkr8

Cool game idea! I found it to be entertaining. But I got stuck in Level 3 because I thought it was a good idea constantly pushing my president, so that he would walk faster. In the end he got stuck at the bottom of the map in the right corner and didn't move anymore. :D

generictoast 2018-12-09 02:32

@shito Thanks for playing! I'll try to fix the problem you faced in a later version.

vademetro 2018-12-09 14:10

Nice gameplay. We can push the president to make it move faster, is it on purpose? I like the menu animation, nice polish!

generictoast 2018-12-09 14:59

@vademetro Thanks! Being able to push the president is intended as to let players choose between pushing the president away from hazards and blocking them or a balance of both!

This game is great! I really love the concept and it makes sense - sacrifice your life to save the president. Kind of morbid, but amusing, fun, and fits the theme perfectly. The art and minimalistic animation is cute and fun too. The music also adds to the mood. Lacking some sound effects but it is not really that bothersome.

Great game and thanks for sharing!

Very fun game and nice concept! Could probably be built upon in a lot of levels. Really like the graphics and the mood that is set with the music. Too bad you opted out/didn't write it yourself! :-) Congrats on a fun game!

Nailed the theme! Fun to play.

xarona 2018-12-13 09:12

Nice game and mechanics and all. I only dont really understand why the new security people resporn next to the president and not where the died. That made the handling a bit annoying for me. But I didn't enjoy protecting the president ...

edmanbosch 2018-12-15 00:12

Not very original, but still fun. It really sucks that there's no PC version though, especially since it has no sound on WebGL.

generictoast 2018-12-15 04:10

@edmanbosch Pretty sure the sound problem is on your end since it works just fine for everyone else. I could make a windows export of the game but i didn't think it was necessary since a web version would be more convenient for everyone to play.

generictoast 2018-12-15 04:13

@xarona We tried spawning the bodyguard where they died at first but that made the game too easy.We also tried spawning them at the various checkpoints but it made it a bit too disorientating for the player, so we eventually decided on spawning them beside the president. Thanks for playing!

edmanbosch 2018-12-15 05:29

@generictoast I've seen this exact same bug on another Unity WebGL game, for this very jam no less. It might be on my end though since I'm basically just using an old Intel i3 Processor with integrated graphics but I'm not sure.

Hands down funniest game I played during this LD so far, the controls and collisions dont feel that tight, but personally I think that's one of the charms of this entry. I got to the stage with the very large open area where the prez zigzags up and down, I think that one's way too unfair, and I really would've loved to have beaten that stage to see what comes next.

generictoast 2018-12-17 14:55

@jusw85 Glad you enjoyed it! The stage with the open area is actually the last stage so you weren't missing much after that XD

This game is super funny! Granted, I might just be reading into it a lot due to political stuff, but I thought it was hilarious. I’m not sure if you meant it like this, but I really liked the theme and how the mechanics work to support it. To me, it was about SOME cheeto colored president with a very bad hairdo that is insisting to go walk around the streets in very obviously dangerous areas and expecting bodyguard after bodyguard after bodyguard to keep dying for his selfish requests. Again, sorry if it’s a bit political but to me it really tied up to how Trump is very selfish, doesn’t listen to his intelligence team, insists on stupid public show stunts, and doesn’t care how many people’s life end ( in the game the bodyguards die but in real life it can be ending of a career or other things) as long as he gets what he wants.

The choices allowed in the game did seem meaningful. For example, I could choose to either dive in front of the president or to push him along depending on the situation. Simply standing in front of the bullet also would stop it. The possibility space was very narrow and set, but again I saw it as a political statement of how narrowminded certain president is so it just added to the humor for me.

I felt like the core mechanic of the game was stopping the bullets with your body and it was very elegant in it’s simplicity. Add to it that the president will not allow you to guide him off of the path and it made for a very funny experience. The dynamics were very open as well which I truly enjoyed and I feel that the push dynamic was the core one. At first I thought the matter which you’d dive at would be the key, but to be honest I would only use that for the snipers. Outside of that I would just try to frantically corral the president around to have him avoid the bullets in time. Again, to me this was funny and seemed on purpose.

I did feel empathy towards the avatar as well. When I first read the instructions, it said that I could take a few hits, so I figured I would have a lifebar but it seemed only our very orange president was the only one worthy of a lifebar. Instead, by having the bodyguard die each time and have another one just pop right up FROM the president’s feet, I felt a lot of empathy. The graphic animation of the bullet hit on the bodyguard was a good touch to add empathy too.

I couldn’t really get into a flow for it, but I think that was more of my fault than any type of design issue. Also, the random spawn points of the president made me frustrated since when I would have two bullets coming to our dear old old old old old old Trump rump I would often times end up pushing him into the way of a bullet trying to get around him shortly after dying to the first bullet and trying tot block the second. I did read that you tried a few different options for spawn point and I agree that close to the president was a good idea. I think a few steps back would have helped with the pushing into the next bullet though.

It has a very good sense of struggle on later levels when you have so many projectiles to worry about, but I didn’t quite feel anything for the transformation. Also, the goal was clear and easy to feel but I also felt quite unhappy every time I would walk him into his safe limo.

Thank you so much for a good laugh! Great job!
