| Dec 5 15:56:52 | Food Fight | ♥ 4 | My good pal Poncho, thanks for the kind words last night. I'm fresh as a lettuce and ready to leave my signature on your comment section. Judging this game from a first glance is doing it a disservice. The 3D artwork is clearly rushed stuff (and so does the whole interface), and the shooting mechanics are quite primitive, so it's very easy to be turned off without giving the game a chance. However, once you actually start playing it, the game puts one's body into full blood rush mode. You shoot "enemies" (read, food and snacks) which only come faster and in larger numbers at the player, which will then be fed to them until they're dead (or fat or whatever). If it were a simple run-of-the-mill shooter, that'd be nothing special. However, the addition of a shop to buy upgrades is... also no special. **But** having the shop pop up at any point _and_ in front of the player _and_ not pausing the game actually makes the game far more threatening and interesting. Here's how I see a playthrough: I shoot a few enemies, then I open up my window and try to choose upgrades, but I can't take too much time to take decisions because enemies are still moving around, and no place is safe. The shop also obscures the window, so it has that "I don't know if they're close to me or no" feel to it, which half doubles this into a horror game of hilarious proportions. My point is, the game's concept is my kind of ridiculousness, and I had a genuine good time playing it. Not the most polished or unique game of the bunch, but it's still a mixed bag of all the good feelings. Kudos, and let's hope we get to cooperate again in some more games in the future! 🐳 | |
| Dec 5 16:24:42 | 27m 50s | MAGNETOGRABBER 2000 | ♥ 2 | Hey Krol, I finally finished helping set up our game, I got a good opportunity to play yours. Congratulations on finishing up your entry! Anyhow, and bear with me for a second. My first impression was that, for a simple premise, 5 minutes were a bit too much, specially with things that extended gameplay. But soon, I found out 5 minutes were not nearly enough, and I had a rollercoaster of emotions when ~~crashing into rocks and mindlessly drifting like a clumsy walrus into the depths of space~~ piloting the ship. While I didn't really understand the game at a first glance, I quickly caught up with the mechanics, and had a blast. True to the theme, the more ores, the harder the game was. And it was hard enough without them, but in a fun way. While the controllers were a bit finicky, they were not really unfair, and I managed to do some cool maneuvering every now and then. Getting the ores to their stashing zone felt _so good_. At points, I was just roaming around just trying to see how many I could have with me at any given time. It was madness. _Madness!_ The glowing and effects did wonders to the atmosphere. Great submission, pal, and keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 16:48:42 | 24m 00s | Crate Storm | ♥ 0 | Wanted to check this game out, but my defense programs keep telling me it's a virus and deleting it on the spot. Chrome, firewall and other defense measure keep blocking it. Consider checking up on that. |
| Dec 5 17:25:22 | 36m 40s | Sushi Secret | ♥ 2 | Getting common sushi on a lootbox? Where's my pride and accomplishment?! chrome_2017-12-05_12-17-34.png Now, really. This game was extremely deceptive. You deserve a round of applause. Let me go a bit more in depth about how I feel about it. The game is very straightforward. You pack up the sushi and deliver it, hoping none goes to waste. The physics were functional, and it was overall very intuitive. Then the game took a turn for the macabre. I'm not gonna spoil it, but, oh gawd. I laughed and spazzed the moment I found out what the heck was going on. Great work, and congratulations on making a game with the "you have to play it to believe it" feeling to it. In behalf of our team, I hope that your game gave you a higher feeling of pride and accomplishment than any lootbox can provide. 🐳 |
| Dec 5 17:39:02 | 13m 40s | MiniDom (2-6 Player game) | ♥ 1 | A minimalistic approach to a two player card game? Hope I had someone around to truly play it as it was meant. Regardless, mechanic wise, I felt that the game was very solid. I must observe though that the early game was a slog. I rarely had cards to increase my money, and even when I did, only expensive cards would show up. Losing the money at the end of the turn made it impossible to progress faster until any player could buy a 3 coin card. Afterwards, the game went far faster. Still, I've always been a wacko for card games, and there's a sea of opportunities to further expand a concept like this. I wish I had people around to play it, but regardless, that was a simple yet fun experience. On behalf of our team, congratulations on your LD submission! Keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 18:14:16 | 35m 14s | APOLLO v-1.0 | ♥ 1 | After a few tries, my best was capped at 40. I'm so bad at this :I Regardless, I found the game to be that kind of entertaining-because-it's-challenging. The controls are a bit floaty (yet they somewhat feel good given the design), and the game feels very rewarding. It does keep getting harder and harder, so it fits the theme perfectly. The aesthetics are superb. Very retro, very vivid. If there's one thing that I don't get is that the instructions say that there's an upgrade every 15 points. I got to 40 and never noticed anything of the sort. Did it mean after 15 dots? In which case, given how I suck at this, odds are that I'll never see them. Anyhow, fantastic work. In behalf of our team, I wish you a snazzy LD. Keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 18:34:09 | 19m 53s | Trashsucker | ♥ 5 | TrashSucker is the most badass name I've found for an LD submission so far, so you've got that going. Sounds very pro-wrestling-like. Anyhow, first of all, I really enjoyed the concept and the mechanics of picking up the trash. It flies so fluidly, and being able to pick the trash up and then fire a barrage of junk looks and feels just right. My quip is that it felt a bit underused, specially since switching between wearing it and punching felt somewhat clunky. Sprinting and moving feels alright, but the levels did feel a bit too big, causing a monotonous backtracking experience at points. All in all, the trash sucking and firing mechanics are glorious, and it'd be great if in the future you expanded on the concept. Say, like firing trash below to reach new areas, or fill gaps, or something of that matter. Great work overall. Speaking for my team, we wish you a great LD, and hope to see more of you in the future! 🐳 PD: I can't get over how great Trashsucker sounds in my head. |
| Dec 5 19:05:26 | 31m 17s | Barreus | ♥ 1 | Hello there, Good job on making it to the LD! I've got some thoughts on the game, which are probably on par to what others have said before, but here they go. The concept of reverse difficulty is a very novel one. Firing faster feels so good, specially on the arena, and being able to increase the field of view actually does wonders. However, I have, first of all, a comment. The description says that there's 2 levels, but I was only able to repeat the first one (which I actually had to repeat many times since the game was surprisingly harder than expected). I don't know if there's a bug or if I'm missing something, but I can only play there and on the arena. Aside from the jumping issue every now and then, I also died because of... I don't know. Invisible bullets or something. At least twice I died in midair by not being able to identify what killed me. Still, I commend you on making a more-than-functional experience. The arena was particularly good, and the second spear person on the first level actually caught me off-guard, which does speaks wonders of the idea of increasing the field of view. It's a very peculiar design. Well, again, I had fun with this. In behalf of my team, we salute you, and hope to see what you can come up with next! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 19:20:36 | 15m 10s | Annoying Dogs | ♥ 0 | I don't know what I'm doing and I'm loving it. I was laughing out loud when I had like 7 dogs pulling around, with a lot of barking and sniffing and what not. The concept is hilarious on so many levels, from the ~~completely unmarketable~~ superhero theme and excuse plot to the actual gameplay of dogs being dogs. Is it safe to bet that you had a bit too much fun when making this? Ah well. My team hopes that your submission is doing great. Keep up the good work! |
| Dec 5 20:52:58 | 1h 32m | Dungeon Raiders | ♥ 2 | DOUBLE LOCKPICKING POWEEEEEEEEER chrome_2017-12-05_15-44-21.png This was an entertaining entry. Love how it's randomly generated, and how the lights work with the aesthetic. Overall, it wasn't so easy that I could just coast through it without caring, nor too difficult to be bothersome. While it's probably out of your control, my main problem was finding out that the only lockpickable chests remaining on a level were on the center with zombies pretty much on top of them. I barely managed to make it past one level by having to wait for half a minute for the zombies to move out of the way. It happened again later on, and I ran out of time while lockpicking. Still, the game is a charm to play, and it's paired with great production value. Out team looks forward to seeing more from you in the future! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 21:20:32 | 27m 34s | Power and Reaction | ♥ 1 | Some person walked into a bar. Suddenly, Contra. PowerAndReaction_2017-12-05_16-09-06.png I'm in love with this game. It's pure, distilled madness crammed into a very contained experience. The artwork is atrocious yet charming, specially considering the context (or lack thereof). And yes, the game gets "easier" with more upgrades, but at the same time, it keeps getting worse and worse, which is beautiful. The mechanics work so well together. While it can be annoying to be flung out from one side of the screen to another by the enormous red monsters, their punch still feels heavy and with impact, so I'm never really mad at them. My only problem with this game is the voices. They're out of nowhere and feel very out of place (and that's saying something, since nothing at all in here feels in place to begin with, yet it somehow works). Well, now that it's all said and done, I congratulate you for making up one of the best moments I've had with this jam so far. In behalf of our team, we applaud your enthusiasm, and we hope to see more from you later down the road! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 21:56:31 | 35m 59s | Free to Play | ♥ 2 | I mostly skipped the instructions when playing, so I found the game to be a bit gimmicky at best. But then I found out that I could step on the ads, and that _blew my mind_. It's a very interesting (and grindy) take on platforming and lootboxes. It's works and feels like a charm, except having to attack with f. That's some weird mapping, but nothing game breaking. Still, good sounds, good music, and a hilarious spin on the theme. I liked it a lot. The ad-driven platforminess really sets this aside from other endless runners. Having those annoying ads with sounds could have given a more powerful impact. That's pretty much all I've got to say on it. Speaking for our team, we congratulate you for delivering such a fun (and lootboxey) experience. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 22:21:51 | 25m 20s | GeneNOM - Create Your Own Organism! | ♥ 0 | I made it to mammal! Love me some fuzzy tail. chrome_2017-12-05_17-14-51.png Nice spin on the good ol' snake game. I mean, at this point, you'd think the world had seen all of its variations, so it's great to see just one more pop into existence. Other than the extra flair and things to eat, well, it's still snake. As good as snake gets, I guess. It's a good spin, but it's still core snake. Well, one way or another, I had my share of fun with it. Kudos, and my team will try (and very likely succeed) to become a better mammal than what I turned out to be. Keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 5 22:44:46 | 22m 55s | Perigee | ♥ 2 | About to finish out planetary defense matrix. chrome_2017-12-05_17-39-59.png This is a very good looking and interesting premise on the game. A ridiculous absurd that drives into a simulation game, which, in my book, are always welcome. It's pretty barebones mechanic wise, but it's still an outstanding experience. I hope that you find time to further expand into this concept, since this game could really do with more and more and more, and I'm not necessarily talking about bunnies. My team congratulates you on such a great submission, and we hope to see more from you in the future! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 01:53:04 | 3h 08m | Save the Hats | ♥ 1 | Eat your heart out, Team Fortress! chrome_2017-12-05_20-29-45.png Not many entries have this much polish, let alone an actual plot of sorts and introduction sequences. That already catches the attention, but the gameplay doesn't lag behind. Using hats as a cosmetic, a weapon and a hindrance is a clever way to make the theme work, having them around as ammo that can at any point be lost if one's not careful enough. If there's any feedback, it'd be to make the first waves a bit shorter. In comparison to later ones, they're extremely dull, and ramp up the difficulty at a boring pace. Regardless, the gameplay is very solid, and the overall production values are of high quality. Well done, and I hope this entry goes very far. In behalf of our team, we wish you have a very productive post jamming session! Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 02:08:36 | 15m 32s | Inperito(); | ♥ 2 | Hey there. I'm not exactly a typing expert, so I didn't get veeeery far. Retried the second level a few times before ragequitting for making typos on the worst moment or not typing fast enough. Regardless, the game looks great and is very functional. I played on a windowed screen though, and I couldn't exit the game through traditional means, so that's something to take in consideration. Well, that's pretty much it. I'm not exactly the ideal person to leave you a meaningful response, but a game like this is well worth a look or two. After all, the pixel art is very cute. In behalf of our team, we hope that you can show us something as good, if not better, on future jams! See ya! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 02:29:50 | 21m 14s | Do You Mind If My Buddy Joins the Band? | ♥ 2 | I was very hyped up from just reading the name of the game. As in, it's okay to invite a guitarist friend, and maybe a second one. But 8 or so? That's a hilarious extreme. The game looks great, and the guitar riffs are fantastic. It gets a bit dull on the gameplay later on, as one would expect the difficulty to ramp up. Making it constant (at least as long as I played, which felt like an eternity) kinda made the game lose its charm. But regardless, it's a submission with a lot of potential. It'd be great to see this become bigger in the future. That's pretty much it for now. I'll tell my team about this game and hopefully they'll check it out to. In behalf of all of us, great job once again! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 03:10:10 | 40m 20s | My Alien Life! | ♥ 1 | I'm not a very clever man. MyAlienLifeLudumDare40_2017-12-05_22-04-47.png Congratulations on making it to the compo! That sounds like a lot of pressure, so I wish you good luck! Given the conditions, this is rather impressive. The game looks and controls alright, although it gets a bit sluggish at certain moments. Still, content wise, it's a challenging time management collect-a-thon of sorts. I ended up more often than not deciding to procrastinate cleaning myself, and ended up with an impossibly slow character. No one to blame but myself on that one :P Keep the good work coming! Here's hoping this game lives up to your expectations. Our team wishes you the best of luck! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 03:29:11 | 19m 01s | DIM | ♥ 0 | Oh, goodies. I always like to find roguelikes in gamejams. This was a treat! This game is visually impressive _and_ expressive, and works masterfully with the audio track. You'd think that in a game about darkness the bright is good for you, but I like how this game plays with the idea of either extreme being a bad thing. The light (and dark) effects are phenomenal, and the game's polish is excellent. Had a good long run on this one. I hope you decide to later on expand on this premise and concept, as this would, for example, be a great mobile game. In behalf of our team, we look forward to seeing what you can come up with next! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 04:37:11 | 1h 08m | The Peddler | ♥ 3 | I always have liked this kind of simulation games where I just have to maximize profit. This one does that with a good mix of inventory management. While simple in mechanics, I like how it's so randomized that it does feel like a lot of inventory and characters. The calm music is fantastic, but the one with lyrics feels so out of place. That was an odd choice, but still respectable. Regardless, this was an interesting thing to behold. Got me hooked in for somewhat longer than the average submission. I'll let the rest of the team know about this one. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 04:48:50 | 11m 39s | Mountain Diver | ♥ 1 | Congratulations on making it through the comp, let alone with a charming looking game in so little time! Here's hoping you enjoyed every bit of it. The use of the theme with the mechanics was marvelous. On one side, my usual behavior on this kind of games was to collect everything, and it took every fiber of my soul to be rational and just take the necessary gems. It's very hard not to be tempted and to try to find the sweet spot between greed and planning. Like others have said, the controllers are the one sour spot. Specially when playing on chrome, where holding Ctrl and pressing D caused a Bookmark notification to pop up and interrupt the game. This happened many times and was a major bummer. W for jump and S for super jump would have been far more intuitive. Still, incredible Compo work. Our team wishes you the best of luck on this judging phase. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 04:57:43 | 8m 53s | Shall they up? | ♥ 1 | You'd think that with all those cool weapons the game would end up being easier. Nope. They're a trap. Each new one places a new brick in a bullethell of the player's own making. The premise and the game were simple, but their effectiveness is still a thing to behold. The game was challenging, yes, but not necessarily unfair (except on the early stages, where I did feel that I couldn't kill the purple enemies fast enough). Jolly good submission there. Glad to see that tried and true mechanics can still be fun with such a spin. In behalf of our team, we hope to see more of you later! Keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 05:11:15 | 13m 32s | Conversations | ♥ 1 | What? chrome_2017-12-06_00-04-51.png The atmosphere and the theme of the game makes for a setting with a lot of feeling and passion, and I applaud the diversity on characters. The spider-person is quite cute, and the game as a whole gives me that Octodad-vibe. Regardless, even when published with the (may I add, extremely good) plug of "A game about not knowing the rules", this game isn't very fun to actually play. At one point, I just ended up spamming down, expecting to just coast through it (but I'm actually impressed it didn't work, only getting confused looks back). I don't know if the game should be more than what it currently is, since you probably had a very specific vision on what you wanted to achieve. It's just that my more old fashioned gamer mind was left wanting more. Options, choices, some more direct consequences, I dunno. Still, it's a feast for the ears. Awesome audio. In behalf of my team, we look forward to your next projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 05:50:43 | 39m 28s | Muldulamulom | ♥ 1 | This kind of surrealism is better appreciated while on sleep deprivation. chrome_2017-12-06_00-46-07.png This might be the post-gamejam hangover speaking, but I was seriously tripping when playing this game. And I mean it in a good sense. This was a mind-expanding experience, with gorgeous and fluid graphics, where I could barely tell what was that, yet I felt that I could comprehend everything. It's a simple Metroidvania experience at its finest. The theme is not really apparent to me, but regardless, in my book, a game this good can take any liberties it wants. In behalf of my team, congratulations on making this game! It's one well worth remembering! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 20:33:25 | 14h 42m | The Adventures of Marty Graw | ♥ 1 | Well, it's a solid and functional endless runner. I like how you actually have to deposit the gold every now and then, rather than just hoarding it endlessly like on most games of its type. I mean, realism is not the point at any given moment, but it adds some extra interactivity. Also, it might just be me, but I didn't really feel slower by having more gold. At times, I thought I lost whatever I had on me for no reason, but it might have been rocks that hid behind gold, I dunno. Still, this is a good compo entry. As stated by people before me, a quit button or just closing on Esc would have been welcome. In behalf of my team, good luck on the compo! Keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 20:51:10 | 17m 45s | Dream Roamers | ♥ 1 | A well crafted condensed 2 level experience. Compo entries rarely get this good, so congratulations on making something of this quality in so little time! Good sprites, with proper music and sound effects, on a bug-free functional world with a very interesting decision making gameplay twist. I actually tried to play with as little ammo as possible at one point, and I barely made it alive when I killed one of two enemies with my last bullet. Otherwise, that would have been it. It felt so good. Congratulations once again on crafting this gem. On behalf of my team, we'll be waiting to see what you can make next time! Cheers! 🐳 PD: Lost a run only to be greeted with Jake's wisdom. That brought a smile to my face. |
| Dec 6 21:07:40 | 16m 30s | Last Ticket | ♥ 1 | The setting and feeling of the game is fantastic. Has some sort of nostalgic feeling to it, and the premise is something that can hook people into forgiving some of the game's shortcomings. While the art direction is a hit-or-miss because of how many different styles were chosen, I kinda liked it, specially on the platforming sections. The rest is alright, and the gameplay is, well, simple, but not intrusive. Multiple endings are always a bonus. My main complain, which is a big turn off, is that the game needed a bit more of proof reading. For something where the story is a big deal, finding so many writing errors is a problem. Regardless, this submission has a lot of feeling to it, which I find very refreshing, considering that most entries so far have been diluted madness. My team wishes you a good judging period. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 21:43:15 | 35m 35s | Trial of the Reaper | ♥ 2 | Had a romp murdering the ever living blocks out of the little people. Fun times! The swinging with dashing and slicing made me feel like I was playing a very distilled Warriors-like game. If anything, the core mechanics are there, so what's the point of buying them when you can play this instead? If I can be nitpicky for a moment, it'd be the Love meter. Rather than a mechanic, it's pretty much just an alternate timer. I didn't feel any impact for it rising (did I swing slower or dash less or something? I don't think I noticed). While it works conceptually, it's more of a minor inconvenience in this scenario. Well, anyways, this game is still very solid on its own merits. It's clear that you've been around for a while. So, I speak in behalf of my team when I saw that we're looking forward to seeing your next entry. Cheers! 🐳 PD: The Windows build is named Trial of the Reap**o**r. Found that somewhat funny. I'm a very simple man. |
| Dec 6 22:36:56 | 53m 41s | DRAGLUTTONY | ♥ 1 | It's a shame that it's only multiplayer, since I didn't have anyone around to check it out. Regardless, the art style is fantastic, and the mechanics looked very fun for a game night session with more people. Yeah, there's not much I can add to it that hasn't been said. Game does look polished and a lot of fun, and that it can be played with a controller is a big bonus. It feels just right, even though I can't enjoy it to its full extent. I'm sure that my team would have a blast if we could sit down around to play it. Anyhow, keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 23:00:02 | 23m 06s | Cotton Mayhem | ♥ 3 | All packed up! Possibly missing one somewhere, but I'm sure it'll show up eventually... SheepFarm0.2_2017-12-06_17-56-03.png While the controllers were somewhat whimsy, I did like the challenge of herding these little fellows into the trucks. There's so much stuff going around that the world actually felt very vivid. I was actually impressed that the delivery trucks themselves were able to turn the sheep into roadkill. This entry was very interesting. Perhaps a bit too much for someone as clumsy as myself. Ah well. All things considered, I had some fun runs with it. In behalf of my team, great work with this submissions! 🐳 |
| Dec 6 23:44:07 | 44m 05s | Bus Mayhem | ♥ 1 | Crazy Taxi got nothing on this. BusMayhem_2017-12-06_18-15-44.png Fell in love with this game the moment I saw the thumbnail. A bus so crammed with people that they were popping out of it? That's _my_ kind of weird. I'm glad to see that the game managed to live up to the high expectations I had on it. This game was a wacky romp, with some funny comments. But the real deal was by the end of the run, where the thing was noticeably harder to control. So there I was, clumsily driving a bus of sardine-like people, grinning like an idiot throughout the short ride. While simple and short, this was one heck of an experience. Great job! In behalf of my team, we're looking forward to what you can come up with in the future! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 00:10:02 | 25m 55s | BulletCoin | ♥ 1 | I'm genuinely impressed. Mixing clickers with bullet hell actually brought new life to a relatively stale genre. _This_ is why I love compo games. Minimalistic, simple to understand, very tight and impressive. Everything from mechanics to views work like a charm and in cooperation. The instructions of "_everything_ pink can kill you" were far more literal than I thought, and one of my runs had an early (and hilarious) end because of a loading bar. It took me by surprise, and I thought it was genius. My only qualm here is that sometimes, I'd have troubles dragging objects around. Other than that, I welcome this compo game with wide arms. In behalf of my team, good work, and good luck on the compo! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 00:29:11 | 19m 09s | LUGO | ♥ 2 | I know what I'm doing, okay? Lugo_2017-12-06_19-25-09.png That you managed to make a (somewhat) full fledged car building game in this little time is mind boggling to me, let alone one that is this functional, flexible and fun, even with a (very wonky) propeller. Just making it through the second level was a challenge for me, but one that I tackled with a moronic grin on my face. What else is there to say? This game is sandbox lego building goodness. In a fair world, we wouldn't be asking for more than this. In behalf of my team, we look forward to seeing what other wacky projects you can come up with in the future. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 01:06:03 | 36m 52s | Lil' Justin's Fame Escape | ♥ 2 | A pop-idol themed stealth game? I don't know how you people come up with this stuff. I just know I want more. chrome_2017-12-06_19-47-43.png So, one thing was just having fans tagging around and ruining the idol's day, but another was implementing stealth mechanics, like lines of sight and the rockstar-but-not-really equivalent of a smoke bomb, which doubles as a hilarious node to the world of the famous. The game by itself is cute and fun to play with, but the sounds really made up the experience for me. The quirky voices of the fans going all over the place saying OH EM GEE and the like? Just perfect. Astounding display there. In behalf of my team, we hope that you get more stuff on the way in the future. We'd like to check that out as well. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 01:27:11 | 21m 08s | Mistral - Wave-based Survival Retro Game | ♥ 2 | Wow, the game is incredibly fast paced and hard. Has that "easy to learn, hard to master" vibe to it, since actually felt like I was doing more progress on every new run. The controls were very responsive, and most of the shortcomings on the game had more to do with the limitations of the system rather than the game itself. The game itself very loosely tackles the theme though, as coins felt more like an "end the level and start another" gate rather than something that really had any meaningful impact to the game. Regardless, that can be brushed aside. Good submission right there. In behalf of my team, we congratulate you on submitting a very fun game. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 02:05:45 | 38m 34s | Mugger's Delight | ♥ 1 | And it just kept getting worse and worse chrome_2017-12-06_20-56-53.png This game is very fun, and could be borderline addictive. The idea of holding as few bodyguards as possible to increase your score as high as it can gets very alluring. And yet, the extreme difficulty does make them a necessity. For a game this "simple", it does have a very interesting high-risk-high-reward mechanic. Overall, the game is quite well constructed. The monotone "fuck off" cracked me up the first time I heard it. A bit crass, but still, very amusing for the spectacle. Well, there's really not much else to add on my front. I'm actually very happy I was able to play this game. In behalf of my team, we want to see more games this fun from you in the future. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 04:06:29 | 2h 00m | S - The Game | ♥ 1 | This is one very tight physics based puzzle game. To think that something as simple as just throwing an S could have this much depth doesn't cease to amaze me. I mean, just look at this! chrome_2017-12-06_23-01-34.png Simple things like timers and moving objects do add a lot of depth to it, so I'm half guessing that this can be endlessly expanded. I always get stuck with puzzle games though, so odds are that I wouldn't make it very far to begin with. But hey, let's not make it about me! I'm just sayin', this game is great, and you should be proud of it. Oh well, even if it didn't go with the theme, it was a fun experience to behold. In behalf of my team, we'd like to see more from you, so keep up the good work. See ya! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 04:16:03 | 9m 34s | Mr. Gigafist: a post-apocalyptic brawling adventure | ♥ 1 | That's one bloody Maxmadvaganza if I've ever seen one. I like it's setting, and how it looks like the kind of brawl that you'd expect in a world like this. If I'm going to down, might as well be while fist fighting shirtless punks and drinking beer, right? Still, I got a bit confused about why Left Click is Right Punch and vice versa. Not very intuitive, and more often than not, I thought that the hitboxes were a bit out of place. Some punches were not connecting, and I even felt that some of _their_ punches hit me more than once on the same swing. Ah well. Still, as a top down brawler, this isn't half bad. Very entertaining for some minutes, specially with a lot of fans on the screen. In behalf of my team, keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 04:25:47 | 9m 44s | Heavy Gold | ♥ 1 | While I found it somewhat weird to move with left click and then keep spamming right click, I suppose it couldn't be helped. The game is fast paced, and while I thought that 5 minutes were more than enough for a playthrough, I don't really think I lasted more than 2. At points I thought it was better to just ignore the goblins, but then again... The mechanics for picking up the gold and dropping it were more than fine, although I never felt a hindrance from carrying too much. Again, I don't think I'm very good at this game :P Well, regardless, it was a fun experience, so I hope you're proud of it, as you should be. In behalf of my team, we contratulate you on making it to the compo! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 05:15:23 | 49m 36s | Super Trader 64 | ♥ 5 | That's quite a lot of produce there, buddy. Do you really need more? SuperTrader64_2017-12-07_00-00-20.png If your goal was to be so very nostalgic and 64-ish with the style, well, congratulations. It looks great. Heck, better than great. It's more akin to a Playstation if you ask me. But let's not go that way. The game itself is a lengthy chain of sidequests, which is charming at first (and terrific for a gamejam, if I have to say that), but it does get a bit dull after a while. Still, the amount of polish that it has, like being able to move the camera, makes it very enjoyable. And yes, having more fruits and vegetables make the game harder, but only marginally. Being able to shuffle the bag was a great quality of life detail. Very welcome! I had a good time crossing paths with these animals. One heck of a romp. In behalf of my team, we'd like to see more of this. Maybe an expansion of sorts in the future with some extra mechanics? I dunno. Surprise us! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 05:26:16 | 10m 53s | CalligraTree | ♥ 4 | Is your sakura as zen as mine? Hah! I don't think so! chrome_2017-12-07_00-20-41.png This painted tree growing game (or tool) is very well done. I mean, there's not much to it from a game perspective, but for what it is, the trees do look very different in construction, and the dynamics make up for some interesting shapes every now and then. Yes, they're still trees that look like tress, but that doesn't make them any less pretty :P It's quite a relaxing experience. If anything, I'd say that its greatest success comes from letting reviewers of LD games take a breather from the madness that's all over the place. There's always space for a more chill experience. If there's one submission that can ease the mind and soul, it's this one. I had a very enlightening time with this one. In behalf of my team, we're looking forward to your future projects in the LD environment. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 15:07:03 | 9h 40m | Carnage [ Board Game ] | ♥ 2 | This is by far the brightest and most creative use of not the theme, but the idea of developing a game during the LDJam. I mean, come on. I can't really object to the idea of having physical media made as part of the thing, right? For all intents and purposes, I say this is a fantastic addition to the submission pool. I applaud the simple art, and the not-so-intricate rules for a board game. And I'm surprisingly impressed as how well it translates the jam's theme. Lose conditions for everyone allow for a bit of cooperation in what's already meant to be a competitive game. Still, for all I like it, giving an in-depth opinion of a board game is not my element, specially since I don't have anyone around to play it with. It'd be interesting to see someone on Twitch tackle it though. Anyhow, in behalf of my team, we wish you a very satisfying rating period. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 15:34:04 | 27m 01s | My Greedy Dog Steve | ♥ 2 | That rascal is surely growing up fast, yo. chrome_2017-12-07_10-24-35.png I like how this game gradually, but surely, keeps getting more and more challenging in pretty much every aspect. And not because it just increases the things to collect, but that pretty much every decision comes at a very heavy cost. Good weapons come along with great drawbacks, and upgrades have )somewhat unfitting) problems of their own, so it's never an easy decision to select what to level up. Specially since the Level 3 debbufs are horrendous. But still, the game never felt unfair nor dull. I had a great time feeding that evergrowing pup and fighting the creatures in the very-good-looking world you crafted for lil' Steve. If I have one problem, however, it's the hurt-yourself-debuff. I can take everything like dropping my weapons, loot, slowing down, attacking slower and recovering stamina slower. But damaging myself when attacking _and_ with poor health regeneration turned an interesting run into a supreme slog. I couldn't get into fights because I had to wait forever to have a reasonable health to engage without dying. I know it's meant to be an impactful debuff, but it seriously changed the tone of the game. Still, it's one of the best submissions I've played so far on this jam. In behalf of [my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), we hope to see what other games you make in the future. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 15:55:44 | 21m 40s | Deadly Diver | ♥ 2 | The risk-reward factor of this game is very well executed. I had a great thrill when I was going down at a very high speed, trying to grab just enough bubbles to survive, but not enough to end my run. The fact that it's a bit weird to tell whether or not it's viable to grab more bubbles without ruining the run is a bit of a disappointment, but still, the game works like a charm and feels great. The presentation is quite great too, with awesome visuals and fitting sound effects. There's good harmony in this entry. I'd really like to see how you could further expand a game like this, since it's brimming with potential. That's pretty much all I've got to say about it. [In behalf of my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), I congratulate you once again for a superb execution. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 16:20:12 | 24m 28s | Cursest Dungeon | ♥ 3 | ***HYEAAAAAAAGH!!*** chrome_2017-12-07_11-11-34.png I'm not gonna lie to you. This game gave me a terrible first impression. The looks are great, but getting to use the ropes was a nightmare. I actually refreshed the game thinking that I broke up something, since I couldn't figure out how to actually get past them. However, once I realized I could climb them all the way to the top (past the stone floor) and got to the chests, I started having a fun time. First chest? Not a problem. Second chest? I admit I didn't see that coming. And it just kept adding on and on. I really misjudged this one. Gameplay was alright, if not a bit finicky. If there's one thing I really appreciate is that you actually added working checkpoints. There's been so many entries around where I have to restart the whole thing. This is way too useful. Well, great job. Not much else to say.[In behalf of my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), it'd be great to see what else you can come up with in the future. Have a nice day! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 16:45:03 | 24m 51s | Robby & Coppy | ♥ 1 | Ah, come on. It's not robbery if the coins were just lying around on the floor! chrome_2017-12-07_11-39-45.png With fluid visuals and tight mechanics, this game was a cool experience to play. Since the change of speed was so gradual, I actually barely noticed getting slower and slower until I started a new level. Turns out, I was just slowly forgetting how fast this robber actually was. I liked the overall feeling of the game. Nothing too floaty, and nothing that felt unfair. The policemen were easy to spot, and because they had a tell, it always felt possible to dodge them, assuming the player had enough speed. The risk-reward factor did become relevant in the later part of the game. It also adds a bit of challenge to just have 3 bars for the whole game. Makes it more tactical to manage them. Great submission there. [In behalf of my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), we're rooting for your future projects and during the compo! Good job! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 18:25:12 | 1h 40m | Scrooge the Cat | ♥ 1 | Wait, if I throw them enough money they become rich enough to throw it back, where does the money end? Eh, better not to think this too much. chrome_2017-12-07_13-18-49.png Thanks for the short-yet-charming experience. The pixel art was top notch, and the whole structure of the game - visual, audio, polish and theme wise - worked in perfect harmony. Just throwing money around felt satisfying, and some areas were cleverly placed for a satisfying platforming action. Heck, I'm even more surprised that the game had options for remapping every button. You don't see that often, and that ended up being very useful. More people should implement this on their games. I had a very good time with Scrooge. Such a nice cat. Anyhow. [In behalf of our team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), we're looking forward to your next games. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 21:05:55 | 2h 40m | Revenge of the Samurai | ♥ 1 | Hey there. The game has some very clever visuals. Minimalistic in approach, then very japanese painting looking. Nothing of excess, and everything looks outstanding. Excellent job for a compo game. Gameplay wise though, it's somewhat dull. It was easier to just move in short bursts and spam clicking than trying to time anything. Having to stop to attack doesn't feel exactly right, but well, it's what it is. If it works, it works. I just wish it had been a bit more real time, being able to attack while moving. Still, good job with the compo entry! My [team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames) congratulates you on a well executed job! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 21:18:38 | 12m 43s | Fox Flares | ♥ 2 | A bit frustrating at times (darn that 7th checkpoint), but making it all the way through felt so good. The pixel art is top notch, especially for a compo game. chrome_2017-12-07_16-11-16.png The game is very creative in its design and character. It really makes the checkpoints feel better than just arbitrary flags from where to respawn, which added to the experience. The music and sounds really go nicely along it. While I had problems here and there (like the dreaded 7th checkpoint), there was another one. I think the 5th? One where, for some reason, the moment I left the spawn, the timer would go very fast. It felt arbitrary, since sometimes it would happen and sometimes it wouldn't. Must be a glitch or something. It was before a vertical climb. Well, regardless, excellent entry for the compo! [I speak for my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames) when I say we're looking forward to your future entries! Have a nice day! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 21:36:32 | 17m 54s | OverPowered | ♥ 1 | This didn't end well... Ammo Dungeon_2017-12-07_16-29-34.png This one is easily one of my favorite games I've played so far in this jam. It throws away all I know of games of this genre like Enter the Gungeon and, instead of avoiding getting hit, it became more of a game where I had to get hit _just_ enough. I brushed it off as extremely easy early on, but then it became a real challenge, when I was getting hit way faster than I could fire back. It was marvelous. The mechanics are polished and top notch. Movement was a breeze, and so was dodging. The variety of enemies was just right, with clear and meaningful differences between each other. I've never played a game where the most threatening enemies were slimes. And yet, that's where we're at. Excellent entry! [In behalf of my team]((https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames)) we'd really like to see you go deeper on this concept. There's a lot of ways on how to make it even better, even if by it's own merits it's still fantastic. |
| Dec 7 22:01:38 | 25m 06s | Network Invader | ♥ 1 | Wow, I just got a trip down memory lane, back to times where more than a couple of games were this polygonal. Thanks for that! So, anyways, the game works just fine and maneuvering the ship feels just right. Aiming is a bit hard though, and those enemies made up of 4 pyramids were the worst. They were nigh impossible to dodge, which was a major disappointment. But the rest felt nice and responsive, which made up for the shortcomings of the entry. Once again, great work! [In behalf of my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), we look forward to seeing more of your projects later. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 7 23:59:34 | 1h 57m | Hatformer | ♥ 1 | I kept dying and dying. I swear, this game goes out of its way to _keep giving me hats!_ Stop it! chrome_2017-12-07_18-51-10.png This was a great challenge. The game was very simple in execution - the more hats, the harder it is -, but it was incredibly swingy. Even one hat could make a great difference, and I love it. More than a challenge or achievements, I actively started seeing hats as enemies and game-enders. I swear, I was borderline paranoid by the time of the first dragon fight. While the game itself was short, I can see the appeal of trying to get as many hats as possible to the end. I just couldn't take that kind of challenge. No-hats was hard enough as it was. But still, I had a blast. Once again, way to go with this hilariously hatastrophic entry. [In behalf of my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), we tip our hats to you. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 8 15:40:25 | 15h 40m | The Amazing Game 3.0 | ♥ 1 | The freakin' tutorial got me. Very well executed, with a Stanley Parable of sorts way of handling things. While a bit too slow (albeit on purpose), it was still fun to see some interactivity added to dreaded FPS tutorials. But the second half, oh boy... chrome_2017-12-08_10-32-49.png That's one way to do guerrilla marketing, I guess. Very funny and clever, with the whole thing being actually quite well looking for a 3D gamejam entry. Marvelous. I did have a major problem though. At least in the WebGL build (which most people will end up playing, I bet), the camera was a total mess. When trying to aim to any direction, most of the time it would go back to a previous position, making it very hard to actually finish the tutorial, and even worse to fight the enemies. Regardless, great job with this entry. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesAndGames), we're looking forward to see your future projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 8 15:51:26 | 11m 01s | Crawl Control | ♥ 2 | That's a very satisfying condensed experience. Being able to play with a controller was a great bonus. The game plays and looks great, like some weird dungeon crawler Pikmin. It's quite polished, so I didn't find any bugs nor anything too intrusive to detract from the fun I was having with this game. And, even better, seeing that the game had an endless mode aside from the short campaign (if you can even call it that). Great submission! Had a lot of fun with it. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesAndGames), we'd like to see what yours can come up with next time! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 8 19:51:03 | 3h 59m | The Daily Grind | ♥ 1 | The game looks like fun and very interactive. It's brimming with potential and could make for a very quirky and amusing experience. Yet, I know nothing about coffee or how to make it, and I'm at a loss at what to do or how to act. I managed to make some weird blends here and there, but it's disappointing that I don't really know what I'm doing. You could really add some instructions, even off-game if necessary, to make for a more enjoyable experience. Do let me know if you do, and I'll be more than happy to check this game again. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we'd really like to check a more intuitive version of this game if you come around providing instructions. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 8 23:14:03 | 3h 23m | Quantum's Rick | ♥ 2 | I got linked to this one by a friend that knows I'm a Rick and Morty fan, so of course it looked interesting to me. It's a great tribute to the episode, although mechanically-wise, I still don't get it at all. I won 2 games. First one I won was by trying to match stuff up, and I ended up more or less thinking that the patterns were arbitrary. So, dumb luck. Second time, I accidentally double clicked in the first second and still won :I Still, the presentation is superb. The graphics make it look like a "barely within copyright infringement territory" game, and the music is very fitting. I like how it managed to adapt the split-timelines style to perfection. That's all I've got to say. Possibly nothing that hasn't been said before, but I thought it'd be nice to reinforce some comments :P [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we hope to see more from you in the future. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 8 23:22:41 | 8m 38s | Feature Creep | ♥ 2 | I believe that @jorgegamedev already told you about my experience with this game. Fun, interesting concept, great visuals, horrendous game-ruining pits. From the comments, it seems that I wasn't the only one. What a shame. Regardless, it was a very creative idea overall. After 3 playthroughs (third once I was pushed into the pit and I just ragequitted), I'm marveled at what you managed to accomplish with this game, and still somewhat bitter because of how many people are not enjoying the game to the extent to which you designed it. Live and learn, I guess. Keep up the good work! |
| Dec 9 05:09:39 | 5h 46m | Brew it! | ♥ 1 | If anything, you win at board games for going the extra length and actually making a Tabletop Simulator mod, which is a game I actually have (it keeps crashing or slowing down on my computer, so odds are that I still won't be able to play it, which is a mayor bummer...). Well, anyways, the game actually looks very enjoyable. Mixing brews seems to be a fun concept for a tabletop game, so at the very least, it looks novel. The artwork seems great as well. You really went full throttle on this one. Here's hoping that your entry gets enough notoriety, as board games I've seen so far seem to be struggling because of the entry barriers. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations of taking such a creative approach on this media! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 9 05:28:59 | 19m 20s | Greedy Dungeons | ♥ 2 | _This_ is a compo game? It's way too good! Graphics, music, theme! It has it all! Just the idea of "monsters can smell the gold" was outstanding on its own, but partnered with what I've said before, it makes up for a very fun and polished experience. I did have the problem with the golems though. Extremely fast, and sometimes they would just push me with no real consequence. Still a bothersome enemy to deal with though, so I thought that it was a mechanic until I saw the bug list. Well, it was a creative and challenging puzzle game. Great work! [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we congratulate you on making such a fantastic submission. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 9 14:26:46 | 8h 57m | Greedy Merchants | ♥ 2 | Fascinating spin on ye olde Pac-man formula. The implementation of AI and constantly changing roles for both the player and its opponents was a great interpretation for the role. No matter who it is, having more can make anyone a target. That was a great execution, and the "Arrrrr!" sounds were quite funny. I'm only a bit upset because I died a bit too many times when trying to take a turn in some paths that were not next to walls. My timing was probably off half of the time, but still, I think that hitboxes could have been a bit more lenient. Well, that was pretty much all I wanted to say about it. This would be a great multiplayer game as well, as some people have remarked before. Anyhow, [in behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesangames), congratulations on making a very inspiring game. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 9 15:06:19 | 39m 33s | The Harsh Life of Terry the Homeless Dude | ♥ 1 | For a first entry and a compo one at that, this isn't half bad. A great, fast paced romp with a very funny concept (with even some lore on the side). I'm particularly attached to games with long names, and this one fits the bill just fine. While it goes with the theme correctly, the game was way too fast for me to matter. I couldn't run, keep track of my life and hunger _and_ take decisions of what to take or not, or even if I could take anything at all out of will. I was running too fast that in my last run I just decided to keep running and crashing into anything and everything. That made it even more hilarious though. Excellent work. Couldn't be more proud of poor old Terry. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing you participate again in the future. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 9 17:32:01 | 2h 25m | What's Yours is Mine | ♥ 1 | From the comments I'm reading, I'm guessing this is the average experience of a player without access to a VR set of sorts: WhatsYoursIsMine_2017-12-09_12-26-29.png It's a shame that most of the people in here won't have a chance to play the game to it's full extent, since the video makes it look very good. Making a VR game in 3 days is doubtfully an easy feat. This is rather impressive. Alas, I also consider it unfair that said entry barriers make such a hard work fade into obscurity, so I'll spread the word around and see if someone with VR would be willing to check it out. Do check on streamers or youtube people to give it more awareness, since odds are that it's the best way for the average LD aficionado to experience what you built in here. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we hope that you keep experimenting in the future! 🐳 |
| Dec 9 17:52:55 | 20m 54s | Poser | ♥ 1 | I felt like I was playing some weird and wicked Comic-Con turf war of sorts and I enjoyed it a lot. I like how the theme is relevant on more than one aspect: Having more suits makes it harder to keep everyone satisfied, and it's harder to move around the more satisfied they are. You really squeezed the theme to its limits. Most importantly, it's mechanics were the best. Just switching suits and avoiding the "enemies" would have been enough to make the game into an interesting stealth game, but actually adding different movements and skills to each clique made it far more tactical. For me, going for skater, then jock, then furry worked out the best, although I kinda thing that leaving Jocks for last would have been more optimal. Also, I couldn't help but to notice that this entry is one with the largest teams I've seen so far. Most entries are 3 or 4 people tops. How did you manage to organize a team of that size? That's quite impressive, and possibly worth a post in the main site. Well, once again, congratulations on making a game with such deepness. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing your future projects. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 9 18:11:52 | 18m 57s | Student Loan Simulator 2017 Ramen Edition | ♥ 1 | They took my favorite game and my laptop. But then, my pet fly? You monsters! :( chrome_2017-12-09_13-04-59.png For a game with such a simple premise, it got quite addictive. You should really polish this up and aim to get it on mobile devices, where I'm certain that the gameplay is very fitting. Juggling between paying and getting loans was fantastic, and the later game became very frantic. It's very ponzi to take loans to pay up for earlier ones. If you do decide to continue with this in the future, consider some slight to feedback for the players. Having the debts display some sort of bar or make them shake as they're a few seconds to expire would really help the player prioritize. The "Notice" sign is a great step, but in the later game, just a bit more could have been highly appreciated. Great work on creating a debt perpetuating simulator. Lots of replayability if only to see how many things they can impound. I'll really miss my pet fly :( [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to playing your future projects. Just let us know 🐳 |
| Dec 9 18:36:16 | 24m 24s | Paperwork | ♥ 4 | This entry was something to behold. Great mechanics with some puzzle aspects to match up the great art and music. The idea of managing ink (while not being able to trick the system with just some minor strokes) was a great addition to it. At one point I was just trying to recreate my signature just to immerse myself a bit more on the game. Still, I ended up hitting a gamebreaking bug, which I hope you have an idea on how to fix. At one point, the guy in suit gave me some paperwork that I couldn't pick up, even though I no longer had anything with me. chrome_2017-12-09_13-27-19.png I restarted the level, and I couldn't even pick up the default things. chrome_2017-12-09_13-27-46.png I've got no clue as to what created this. I do remember that, for some reason, my character jumped over the enemy, leaving the package on the other side, so he became a bureaucratic sandwich. At the very least, that was funny. Well, regardless, it was a fantastic take on the theme. Congratulations! [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing more impressive works from you. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 10 16:09:53 | 21h 33m | Headstuck | ♥ 0 | With only words and still images, I'm impressed at how interactive this game is, with the multiple choices popping all over the place with some of them trying their best to be chosen on their own. Having to drag them away (with even more pushing themselves as the game goes) was a great way to implement the theme. I want to take this paragraph to praise for the simple-yet-impactful visuals. You can feel the nervousness from the character's thought by something as simple as the small shaking. Those small details are the things that, at times, make up the whole experience. All in all, this is a short, but very refreshing visual novel. No need for flashy action or fast paced quantum destruction when good writing paired with effective mechanics can make up for such a memorable experience. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we congratulate you on such a superb experience. Good job! 🐳 |
| Dec 10 16:27:43 | 17m 50s | crowglary | ♥ 0 | I must make the observation that some people, me included, might experience some problems by playing this game because of the antivirus measures towards executable files. I have to turn a couple of protections to play a few of these. This may be an immediate turn-off to a lot of people that are jumping from game to game, since it adds extra hurdles. I couldn't get it to open myself, and I can't really tell much from the thuumbnail, other than it looks like a fun experiment. Consider checking what makes it pass as a virus and circumvent that or, even better, make a WebGL version, which most people around here prefer. I'll forward this to my team and see if anyone can open it without their computers whining. Barriers of entry are a big problem, specially during LD judging period. You have to give your game as many chances as it can get to be spread. [In behalf of my tealm](twitter.com/whalesandgames), here's hoping that we can check out your future projects. 🐳 |
| Dec 10 16:45:26 | 17m 43s | Quadrilateral Damage | ♥ 1 | I'm impressed at how much fun and quality some of these compo entries can get. This is an action packed romp of fast paced bullet shooting and dodging. An incredibly satisfying bullet hell, where half of the fun was managing one's own on-screen bullets. While I didn't really feel the need to keep as many bullets as possible on the screen, I totally saw the appeal. I mostly kept just circunfiring and hoping for the best, but that's probably the reason of why I only made it to wave 20-ish. With varied enemies and even boss fights, this game feels crammed with content. If there's one thing I'd suggest, it'd be rebalancing the power up. It feels so overpowered. I mostly just kept it around to obliterate the bosses in seconds :P A great submission with incredible production values, specially considering it's a compo game. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to your next projects! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 10 19:23:00 | 2h 37m | The Will of the Wisps | ♥ 2 | I'm astonished. This game is so visually stunning. I mean, I've already told you that in my comment back on that post about the art direction, but it wasn't until now that I caught up with the comments that I actually had an opportunity to play it :P While the mechanics of the game are just alright (akin to a 2D walking simulator), the themes and feeling of dread and impending doom were no joke. The atmosphere of this submission is one of extreme tension, which gets even stronger as the music changes when the player approaches the enemy. It's so satisfying. Impressive displays of art, sound and light effects really let this project shine. I feel it's important for player to catch up early on with the visual cues, since the game, which begins as a simple and friendly firefly catching collectathon, slowly but steadily degrades into a crooked forest of hysteria. Incredible work there. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we congratulate you on making one of the greatest quality submissions on this LD. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 10 19:36:28 | 13m 28s | Grim Reaper | ♥ 1 | Collecting souls makes the game harder? Doesn't look too hard to m- GrimReaper_2017-12-10_14-30-18.png Then I found one rolling in the opposite direction and I died :I Gotta say, while simple in presentation, the mechanics and upgrading does feel just right. The music got a bit repetitive, and yet, I loved the juxtaposition of collecting souls to the tune of a very cheerful melody. The game loop is satisfying, and the many types of upgrades do allow for a lot of opportunities on how to advance on the game. People have probably already told you about areas of opportunities. Add more reliable feedback for the player. Enemies would hit me and cause me damage without me noticing (since sometimes, there'd be no sound at all for it). And in the downloadable version, add a Quit button if possible. In this page, do add some Screenshots to make the game more appealing to people who just like randomly browsing. All in all, great submission. It was very entertaining, and I'll probably replay it later to try a different approach for upgrades. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations on your latest Jam entry! Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 12 01:23:31 | 29h 47m | Babies! Babies! Babies! | ♥ 2 | Congratulations on making the thing that will possibly haunt my dreams on the following weeks. There's been a lot of entries that have to do with "the more you gather, the slower you go" entries, but this one from setting alone stands out the most. It's just so disturbingly good, and the use of graphics was a marvel. There's not much else to say about this one that hasn't been said before. If anything, my only complaint would be that at times, I'd jump a hit a ceiling, because I thought it was part of the background. Careful with the value selection of objects there. Anyhow, once again, great job. I'll never see babies the same way again. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing your future projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 12 01:49:48 | 26m 17s | Leaning Tower | ♥ 1 | Well, that's one unstable tower if I ever saw one. The mechanics really fit the theme, and the premise was very well executed. There's really not much to say in here though. It's great for a compo game, but it's so short that even trying to find stuff to talk about it a bit hard. If anything, I'd say that the movements of the tower fell erratic at times. As in, past a certain threshold, the tower would immediately be shaken past a point of no return regardless of the player's actions. At least, I felt that way. Still, it made up for a short and entertaining entry. If you ever decide to upgrade on this, consider making a mobile build. It'd fit fantastically there. Well, with not much else to say, [in behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), great job again on creating such an unique game! 🐳 |
| Dec 12 03:41:31 | 1h 51m | Critter Sitter | ♥ 1 | Back in the day, I thought Tamagochis were demanding. _This_ is where the hardcore virtual pet zoo is at. For the depth, mechanics and polish this entry has, I'm impressed it's actually a Compo submission. Not only does it feel full, but it also seems brimming with the kind of charisma and potential that could eventually make it into a full-fledged game. I'd really like to see something like this go bigger. The spritework is simple, but perfect. The pets all look and behave different, so there's no confusion at all. Only a very fast paced multitasking. I really felt like a pet sitter losing my marbles. Fantastic entry. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing your next projects! Cheers! |
| Dec 12 04:24:59 | 43m 28s | Infernus: The Descent | ♥ 1 | _This_ gave me an immense feeling of closure. Infernus_2017-12-11_23-05-26.png I have so many mixed feelings about this game, sexual themes aside (which I actually find rather impressive. My friend told me this was also submitted to the Lewdjam. We would have participated there, but it overlapped). On one side, it had a lot of artwork and mechanics, which included free roaming, fighting, some simulation and resource gathering of sorts. On the other, it ended up being a jack of all trades, master of none. The amount crammed in 3 days is astounding, don't get me wrong. Thing is, it gets monotone and boring really fast. The grind never becomes easier, the CG scenes slow it down even further, and overall, many mechanics like room building or equipment seemed lackluster or incomplete. There's a lot of room for improvement. If anything, this is a case of setting a high scope and then running out of time. If you decide to go for a bigger post-release version, make things more dynamic for the players. Equipment drops, leveling up, incorporating CG into special skills, add sex-based mechanics to the rooms, or whatever you consider that would add some extra impact to the player's inputs. And embrace the sex appeal of the game. Make it incorporate into the game in non-intrusive ways or as an actual mechanic. That aside, this is still a solid entry. Well constructed, but with some notorious areas of opportunity. We're looking forward to seeing your future projects! 🐳 |
| Dec 12 18:45:43 | 14h 20m | Horny Bunny | ♥ 5 | Well, not much to say that hasn't been said already, I guess. The visuals and aesthetics of the game are fantastic, and I love the faces of the rabbits. The premise is simple, yet it's easy to understand how it fits with the theme (although other than speeding an already generous timer, it didn't really feel impactful). Mechanic-wise, it works just right. Problem is, the jumping can feel a bit clunky at times to reach certain areas, and the decoy felt kind of useless. I'm half believing that the time spent waiting for the rabbits to get to it didn't make up for the time lost. At 2 levels, the game felt a bit short, but still, better to execute a short but good experience than to increase its length until it becomes monotone. If you decide to expand on this, think about new mechanics aside from just adding more levels. Since they're rabbits and the game's humor call for it, there's so much you can do with carrots, droppings, predators and what not. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing your next projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 12 19:11:27 | 25m 44s | Cost | ♥ 1 | Credit where credit is due. The game is fun when you're doing 2-player mode while solo. Cost_2017-12-12_14-07-10.png While I understand that this is a Compo entry, I'm thinking that you could have had a better time by trying to get it into the jam instead. An extra day to polish the game, speed it up, make it more intuitive and appealing would really have made a difference. First of, don't get me wrong. It's great that you made it into the compo. Odds are that you learned a lot of stuff about programming and workflow. But as it stands, the game looks more like an experimental platformer, with a slow pace and floaty mechanics. However, the highlight is that it supports 2 players. While it's probably not much more fun with another person, I played this on my own and it felt very fun in comparison. It _is_ harder with more characters to control, so it'd be an unintended interpretation of the theme. All in all, hope that you take some of this feedback, as I had no ill intentions. It's great to always have more people experimenting. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to see where you go from here. 🐳 |
| Dec 13 18:52:35 | 23h 41m | Dead Weight | ♥ 2 | The game just kept getting more and more challenging. chrome_2017-12-13_13-36-39.png Had an amazing piracy rum driven thrill with this game. Very minimalistic in presentation, but quite surprising in execution. I liked the idea of juggling between crew, ammo and gold, and the naval combat felt very fluid. I have two minor concerns though. It's a bit odd that while we can accelerate, there's no deceleration or even reverse, which gave me a very hard time to find my route again once I crashed into something. The second is that, with so much movement, I ended up getting confused at times as to which button would fire in which direction. Possibly make it so there's just one fire button and it automatically fires in the direction of the closest ship? I don't know. It'd be fantastic to see future updates on this. There's a lot of potential for it, and it could even be great to see a mobile version of it. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), great job once again on such a fun entry! 🐳 |
| Dec 13 19:17:21 | 24m 46s | Kittie Reaper: A Depressed Cat Tale | ♥ 1 | I don't care if they're dogs or pigs. If they die, at this point, it's more their fault than mine >:I chrome_2017-12-13_14-10-51.png This game is very cute in setting and overall atmosphere. Kittie Reaper is a protagonist I can really cheer for, since the juxtaposition of impending death and destruction along with the need to keep fuzzy cute things alive is just that funny. The game itself is alright. A bit on the slow and simple side, but regardless, nothing too intrusive. My one qualm is that, mechanic-wise, it makes no real use of the theme as a mechanic or to outstand in setting. The bar is pretty much a reverse health bar with average contact-damage enemies. Well, either way, I had a good time on this one. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), keep up the good work! Hope you and your classmates had a great time working on it! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 17:07:01 | 21h 49m | Relic Diver | ♥ 2 | This is a great use of the theme, and the setting is fantastic thanks to refined graphics and a call music to depict the depths of the sea. The production values of this game are among the best I've seen on the jam so far. Gameplay wise, it's also a marvel. The harpoon, both working as a tool and weapon, is accurate, easy to use, intuitive and gratifying. Everything from the interface and mechanics work fantastically and nothing is intrusive at all. If I could recommend something for it, it'd be to add some sort of depth meter, to give the player further aid about how deep they are. There's something to be said about not having it to increase the tension of the game, so maybe it could come with a drawback, like added weight to the ship? Well, that's just an idea. You're the designers. That's all I've got for now. Great submission! [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations on such a fantastic experience. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 17:28:49 | 21m 48s | Prinsen Gulden | ♥ 1 | Turns out they were far too short. chrome_2017-12-14_12-19-46.png I've checked both versions (most current and previous one). I'll leave the rating for the older one, but the feedback will be about the latest one, since it's the most relevant to you. That you're updating it shows dedication and a lot of opportunities for a project of this kind, which is fantastic. I'm a sucker for games that are constantly changing, and I was marveled at how seamlessly the levels switched when finishing them (it took me a while, though, since I died 5 times in a row before finishing a level at all). Going around collecting gold never felt stale, and it all worked up more or less like it should. I've got some gripes though. Visually, the game looks somewhat inconsistent with all the 2D, 3D, foreground and background 2Ds. Don't get me wrong, it looks great and unique at times, but at others, like in the screenshot, I felt like I was able to hit the enemies, when in reality, I was _just slightly_ above them. Also, many levels forced me to backtrack from the top, which meant taking some leaps of faith not knowing if there were enemies or spikes below. I had a bit more than a few deaths that felt unfair. All in all, though, great job with this submission. Keep polishing it up, as it is shaping up to be something brimming with potential. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 17:43:41 | 14m 52s | Too Much Time [LD40] | ♥ 1 | Okay, before commenting about the game, let me point out that **the HTML5 link has no Web version of the game**. Do check on that, please. A lot of people value that, and this could end up doing your game a disservice if people get the wrong impression. With that aside, I downloaded the game, and had a fun time with it. It really does look a lot like Superhot, and the slowmo mechanic, paired with boosts, made for a very tactical experience. Some moments, like that level where the player spawns in front of like a dozen enemies made me feel like in some ham-packed action film. It was glorious. The looks, though, ended up being a problem in levels like the maze one, where at times, it was hard to navigate when everything was of the same color. Some corridors were easy to miss, and others felt like invisible walls. It was very easy to also get killed by enemies that would shoot the moment they came into sight, giving little to no opportunity to dodge. Regardless, for something done in 3 days, this is great. With some more polish like sound effects, music and Quality of Life additions, it could gain a lot of track. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we hope to see more from you in the future. Kudos! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 17:56:20 | 12m 39s | BOOTY LOOTER! | ♥ 1 | And it just kept piling on and on and on... BootyLooter_2017-12-14_12-51-08.png Very tight controls, appealing visuals and funny sounds, this is a fantastic compo entry. Looks incredibly dynamic because of the camera movements and how the floating woods comes and goes. The game is very fast paced, easy to understand, and overall, a great joy to play. I did experience a bit of motion sickness, but that's besides the point. My one complaint is that, at times, the camera movements were a bit too extreme, which at times rotated the field almost 90 degrees. So, for moments, I thought that the controllers were also going to be remapped in a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion. It was never the case, but my mind was kind of wired and prepared for that. Lost a few times because of that. Still, a great compo entry. Congratulations. [My team and I](twitter.com/whalesandgames) are looking forward to playing more of your entries in the future. Cheers, matey! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 22:43:16 | 4h 46m | Yottaman | ♥ 1 | If you think the One-Punch Man guy is strong, you haven't met Yottoman. He's so strong he crashed my browser. chrome_2017-12-14_17-35-05.png This is a fantastic Compo game, and a very creative way of using the theme. Making a thing so utterly strong it's actually worse for everyone. The idea of deflecting a bullet so hard it can level a building is hilarious. Fun to control, and the introduction and game over scenes were a treat. The game is easy, but actually finishing it is extremely tricky. I don't know how often that bug I screenshot happens. It occurred when I was on apocalytpic strength and fired into the sky. Quite funny when you think about it. Still, a fantastic compo game. Loved it. [My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) will look forward to seeing more of your projects in the future. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 22:57:48 | 14m 32s | Dog-Off! | ♥ 2 | I've been playing a lot of games on this jam, and now that I'm checking this one, I think I've found my favorite. Everything from the presentation, sprites, sounds and gameplay is a thing to behold. It's just so very good, funny and ambitious. The animations are outstanding. From the duck walking around to the people on the crowd. It's just as dynamic as the fast-paced action of the game itself. The controllers do look somewhat weird, but when in motion, they make perfect sense. It's a weird mix of time-management arcade action and I love it. It's just incredible, and very tough. After a few rounds, I only managed to make it to 27, but it felt so great. I'd like to leave more substantial feedback about it, but it's one of those rare times that none come to mind. I like it all. Congratulations on making one of the best games of this jam. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to your future projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 14 23:18:17 | 20m 29s | The Legend of the Bikini Armor | ♥ 1 | Hah! The humor on this one is just great, and I loved the characters. The art is also very special, so overall, this game has a fantastic presentation. It's a shame that there's a lack of content and sound though. But well, it's a Jam. Some things can't be helped, and the thing you made here is a fantastic foundation. Do work a bit on the gameplay department though. While solid and functional, moving around and mashing the spacebar gets dull very fast. Do consider how to spice things up if you decide to continue working on this later down the road. Still, I liked this entry. Very cheeky humor and cool animations. [Our team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) would like to see this one lift off. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 15 05:13:55 | 5h 55m | XenoNanny | ♥ 1 | Checked this game because the post earlier on. Looked at the art, and thought I'd take it for a spin. It's actually far better than what I had in mind it'd be, with the cutesy critter horde roaming around and being as useful as they could be, while wrecking some stuff or just blatantly dying more often than not. The game was great, and the platforming with simple puzzles were also a treat. I'm impressed at how responsive it all was. Cleverly designed and executed. Some of the jumps did feel a bit odd here and there, but for the most part, playing through the game was a fun time. All in all, a fantastic jam entry. The comic and introduction added a lot of personality to it. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations on making such a great game. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 18 04:26:33 | 71h 12m | Lights Out! | ♥ 2 | I had a genuinely good time playing this one. A short puzzle game, not super challenging, but not outright boring. It certainly has a lot of potential to be further expanded should you decide to add more levels and mechanics down the line. Gameplay wise, it plays great, with intuitive controls. The walljumping is a bit odd at times, but otherwise, it allows for a lot of flexibility for puzzle solving. I also like how the lava looks. Neat showcase here. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we hope to see more of your future projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 21 19:19:25 | 86h 52m | Worth Your Weight In Gold | ♥ 1 | I've seen things like slowing down and jumping less as the game progresses, but this is the first game where I see that actually causes more tangible and permanent problems for the player. While this game was on the easy side of the spectrum, some moments here and there really showed off a lot of potential for puzzles, where rather than skills and timing, grabbing the things in the correct order could make the whole difference. Fantastic entry for a compo. Here's hoping that you decide to eventually take this concept a bit further, as I do like the idea of destructible terrain dependent on the player's collection. It's genius. That's pretty much all for now. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing your future projects. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 21 19:34:42 | 15m 17s | Parent Simulator | ♥ 1 | Ever been to a pig slaughter house? Me neither, but I imagine it pretty much sounds like this. chrome_2017-12-21_14-27-08.png A fittingly frustrating and exasperating game. It's a thing of beauty. I loved the art, and the intro music was very catchy. And when it's time to play, well, the sounds are what you'd expect in a home full of hungry babies. If you manage to continue playing through bleeding ears, this game is fantastically crafted. Simple in execution, yet it adheres to the theme so well, and it's very polished. I like to see that you're still updating it. I can only wonder how far you're willing to take this game. You might want to get your ears checked from all the constant crying you're probably subjecting yourself to tho. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing your future projects! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 22 16:04:34 | 20h 29m | Dipsomaniac | ♥ 2 | I'm not as think as you drunk I am! >:I Dipsomaniac_2017-12-22_10-51-37.png Disclosure first: I don't drink (never liked the taste). After a few minutes of playing, I respected the game enough to at least get a mineral water from the fridge. Sipped that instead, and I don't like it either, but the experience was well worth it. I've played a lot of games on this jam, and this is one of my top favorites so far. Awesome pixel art, funny references, a melancholic tune, and simple-yet-effective mechanics. The game as its own was not outstanding _until_ the later part, in which it became just amazing. The drunk state simulation is among the best I've seen, which is usually just a blurry screen. I like how the thing starts to gradually go more and more bizarre, even to the point where getting to the final bar became a real challenge. In other games, changing the controllers is an annoying experience, but here, it was actually so fitting that it felt just great. This was an incredible jam experience. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations on making one of the most interesting games in the jam. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 23 01:26:46 | 9h 22m | All You Can Eat | ♥ 1 | Scored 113 and had a fun time while scoring. A bit floaty on the movement front, but otherwise, a fun game for a quick burst of arcade gameplay. I like seeing these Pico8 games. This one has very cool graphics and a catchy tune, which are always a plus. Gameplay wise, the game is very simple, and I didn't really notice much change over the course of the game other than the ocassional burping. I half expected it to get far more intense, but still, it was amusing to see it the first couple of times. I like this submission a lot. To the point and well executed. Great compo entry. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations on making something this good. Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 23 01:38:30 | 11m 44s | Tentagraba | ♥ 1 | This one is a fun typing and physics game. Very original, and looks and sounds very funny. Getting to later levels and kinda speedrunning through them feels so satisfying. It's incredible to me that this is a compo submission, since it's so well executed and polished. I do appreciate it that there's a reset button of sorts, since I did find a pair of problems while playing. On one run, a tentacle got stuck in the ceiling, so I couldn't progress past the start. In another, no letters appeared at all. chrome_2017-12-22_20-33-36.png chrome_2017-12-22_20-34-57.png Other than that, I did have a very good time, and that's not my fanboyism of cephalopods speaking only. [In behalf of my sea-creature themed team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we're looking forward to seeing more projects from you in the future! Keep up the good work! 🐳 |
| Dec 26 18:21:17 | 88h 42m | Cliff Hanger | ♥ 1 | Well, that's one great looking entry you got there. Fantastic graphics, presentation and a very smooth control scheme (auto reloading would have been appreciated, but otherwise, it all still fills great, rather than stiff). I like the variety of enemies and that there's some difference between the weapons. I particularly liked the sniper, and was impressed that it actually had a scope function. Just fantastic. A bit off that these are the weapons of choice to fight against planes, bombers and zeppelins, but I'll take it. Themewise... well, it's just generic "difficulty ramps up" gameplay. Wouldn't say it's the best use of the theme. You might as well just ignore it and focus on showing off the game for what it is. An objective defense scenario with multiple guns against an unstoppable airstrike. Great job there. [My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) wishes you the best for your future projects! Cheers! 🐳 |
| Dec 28 18:54:37 | 48h 33m | The Hunger Maims | ♥ 1 | Checked this game out, and I liked it a lot. There's something about the sounds that make it feel funny yet somewhat innocent. The art and gameplay are not bad either, and it really keeps one entertained for a while. For some reason, it took a long time to load though. Regardless, the nest being green was something very odd. I thought it was an enemy or poison or something. In the future, do put some sort of indicator for the people who just skip the instructions (I actually didn't, but I didn't pay much attention either :/), and some sort of sign telling the player how far they are from the starting spot. Great entry regardless. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), great job on making it through the LD. Cheers! 🐳 |
