Nice game! I like the sounds, particles and overall madness including rotating laser when you have more power-ups :D

Wow thats great chaos! Also the art style and animations are in its own way pretty good and funny. Having x and z as keys is not so good because on many european keyboard layouts x and z are far apart. Nice game :-)
Some person walked into a bar. Suddenly, Contra.

I'm in love with this game. It's pure, distilled madness crammed into a very contained experience. The artwork is atrocious yet charming, specially considering the context (or lack thereof). And yes, the game gets "easier" with more upgrades, but at the same time, it keeps getting worse and worse, which is beautiful.
The mechanics work so well together. While it can be annoying to be flung out from one side of the screen to another by the enormous red monsters, their punch still feels heavy and with impact, so I'm never really mad at them. My only problem with this game is the voices. They're out of nowhere and feel very out of place (and that's saying something, since nothing at all in here feels in place to begin with, yet it somehow works).
Well, now that it's all said and done, I congratulate you for making up one of the best moments I've had with this jam so far. In behalf of our team, we applaud your enthusiasm, and we hope to see more from you later down the road! :whale:
Can't say something better than @moski to start a comment !
But yeah, mechanics are simple, but I didn't really knew that I had to pickup the blue soul thingy to get upgrades, so my first run REALLY sucked.
But, after getting it, I saw the challenge and I was a bit blocked by the controls, and didn't knew how to shoot up (despite being asked to do so by some welcome advises from the protagonist !)
Art and audio are what they are, but I look for who you improved for the next jam !
Ahem. Your download link is missing...
@notpresident35 It's there. And working! I just tested it. You mean the link isn't visible or something?
Sorry, it's back. I was experiencing issues on my end. Anyway, it's a pretty cool game, although it does feel like I should be leaving the area, but I can't... Good job. The art is pretty well made, for blob art.
This is one of the best games I have played. I was hoping someone would interpret the theme this way. The player is overwhelmed by the amount of things happening on screen(this is a GOOD quality!). The visuals are delightful too! I do agree that it is not at all obvious how you are supposed to shot at the ceiling. I think this game could do well if the art remained as it is and bits of the gameplay were refined.
I really like the art and the intro was cool. The controls are simple and easy to figure out. I wish indvidual enemies had health bars so I could see how close I am to taking them down. It was very challenging but enjoyable I overall really enjoyed the game.
Great sprite animations, there's so much variety! voice over adds a nice touch to the game as well!
The only reccomendation I have is to make it more easy to change direction. It seems that when you're shooting one way, it takes a lot of time before being able to change direction.
Otherwise, great game! I had fun! :)
simple but good sprite and a little repetitive, more level will be good
Very fun, chaotic game! My only suggestion is to make the enemy spawn points more randomized so they don't always keep appearing in the same place.
The loud and unedited voice over is a little annoying, especially when you died a lot, I'm sure you'll do fine without voice over, no? The control is slightly tighter than most games on LD40, but I would've preferred that when you get hit, you don't turn towards the enemy that hits you. And locking you to a single direction when you shoot makes the control slightly less responsive (still better than most). Also I didn't like that you cannot exit the game unless you kill it from the task manager. Overall, great idea, but implementation could have been better.
Thank you all for the comments!
@moski, @shinyogre That's motivating! Thanks a bunch! Maybe We'll make a improved version on this game.
@nikorasuchan All good valid points. Thanks! I was aware of some them but it was too late with the deadline. You can be sure to see these improvements in a post jam version should there be one.
Even after several plays, I'm not sure what key or combination of keys I had to hit to grab a power-up. Other than that and the voices, it was a hectic little shooter. Reminds me of those old "Xiao Xiao" videos where a stickman is beating up tons of goons.
Interesting work with theme. The combat felt surprisingly fluid and the animations definitely helped to give me that impression. The sounds where a bit overwhelming and I think the game would have been better off without the voice acting. What language was that by the way? I hated the red guys... playing tennis with me... But it sure as hell was a joy to watch. Graphics were minimalistic but as a mentioned the animations are absolutely decent. All in all, a decent entry.
@NonSans Thanks for the feedback, man! Maybe you want to try the post jam version now that it's out! It's improved and easier(less tennis playing too haha). It was made in the BlitzMax language.
@kris-schnee It's better now on the post jam version! Just press fire while near the item :)
Haha I like the art style, animation and the sound. Fun!
What a carnage! I like it!
The gameplay itself was enjoyable. It was a little difficult to pick up some of the powerups, the ones that landed on blocks were hard to pick up in the chaos of gameplay
