LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Dipsomaniac by Junber 2017-12-12T04:02:19Z

@lazard I'm happy tho hear that. I can officialy say that you probably not only won that game but also life. I wish more people actually made this step. Congratulations. I merely hope you will remember our game tomorrow morning.

@megabrutal Yes it certainly had a slow start. Especially if you actively go for the "less alcoholic drinks" (or if RNG just is a mean guy as allways). I assume with "Diesel" you mean alcohol. That's good to hear. Not that we encourage drinking in any way... I mean. Maybe we do but that's not the point, right? Oh boy... well uh, thanks for trying out our game and giving it the time it needs to actually get to the point where the "progress" happens (in the game as well as in your body if you were drinking).

Dipsomaniac by Junber 2017-12-22T02:06:44Z

@Starlin Pressing any key should fix the problem (or maybe just E). So you can go to the next bar. And the bar after that. To eventually make you a drink :) Or maybe not. But the warning shouldnt be a problem.

Power and Reaction by Murilo 2017-12-09T18:32:49Z

Interesting work with theme. The combat felt surprisingly fluid and the animations definitely helped to give me that impression. The sounds where a bit overwhelming and I think the game would have been better off without the voice acting. What language was that by the way? I hated the red guys... playing tennis with me... But it sure as hell was a joy to watch. Graphics were minimalistic but as a mentioned the animations are absolutely decent. All in all, a decent entry.

Mayfly by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-12-09T19:48:07Z

Amazing! Your "Mayfly" is the best game I've played this LD so far. The story kept me enganged the whole time and I was surprised by the lenght of it. The visual design was minimalistic, in all the good ways. I'm digging that! I bet with a bit more time you could have visualized the key scenes in the story (the climbing, office, the car etc.). The sound design also was on point. The effects were definitely fittingly placed with care and intent. The soundtrack was nothing short of amazing, your work alone? Impressive. I think the depiction of the MCs OCD was pretty accurate, judging from my limited knowledge about it. You nailed the parts where the MC goes crazy (the jew parts etc.) and the screen effects really contributed to that. The theme was obviously integrated, while not very innovative per se (doesn't matter as the execution was great). I only have very few "complaints" and they are more or less nitpicking considering all the good parts mentioned above and all of them can be traced back to the limited amount of time you had while making this. The end felt kinda rushed, with 3 deaths literally happening (or being revealed) in merely 5 minutes. I also had the impression that my choices didn't have much effect on the story (please correct me if I'm wrong, I would love to do another playthrough!). It's good to see another "story driven" game in this LD contest and I think you did an impressive job! Keep up your good work Ashley, I hope I will see more of you in the next Ludum Dare compos. - NonSans, lowercase_games

Abyssal Accessory by Junber 2020-04-22T21:31:29Z

@notnullnotvoid Thank you very much for your kind words! It really means a lot to me (well, all of us) that you enjoyed it the way you did. The browser version should hopefully work now.

Abyssal Accessory by Junber 2020-04-23T18:27:17Z

@god-colo Thanks! The coming up part was the shorter bit. The actual writing of it though...

Abyssal Accessory by Junber 2020-04-23T18:31:25Z

@silkworm-sweatshop Yes finding the tonal balance is really difficult. But I'm glad we succeeded in the dread-from-the-beginning aspect in your eyes. That was one of our biggest concerns. Thanks for checking out our game!

Wildfire by dankar 2020-05-10T12:45:02Z

This was not like anything I have played before this Jam. I really enjoyed this little game. It's very calming and the music, while being a bit short (and it could loop better), contributed to that. The design and the UI were on point and I never felt information was lacking or hard to interpret. I found the game not very challenging - maybe I just good RNG - but I don't think it was designed to be that challenging. Overall I think you did an amazing job at making a cute relaxing game.

Keep Me Alive! by fidrik 2020-04-22T20:18:00Z

This was a very cool little game. The premise of the game is quite nice. Once you are in the tune with the rhytm of the game it starts becoming really fun. Took me a few minutes to get the hang of it but when I got there I didn't want to stop playing it. There is one major flaw though, I feel like. The knight is unpredictable. My last game I lost because he ran into two consecutive fireballs of mine. That's the only major thing though. I think a few nice touches would have been something like a highscore I could use to impress my friends or make the ladies go crazy for me. A few more spells would also have been nice to spice things up. Definetly let me know if you continue working on this game.

Space Ship E.V.E by silkworm_sweatshop 2020-04-22T19:50:05Z

I really liked the narrative part of the game and I wish I could have seen more of it. Unfortunately big parts of the gameplay were not very enticing. The asteroid deflection often felt like a hassle. I like that lines showed where they were coming from, but the fact that the game was constantly scrolling everywhere made it really hard to deflect them. If one level required me to do more than deflect, there was just no time to do it. The sound that played when one was aproaching started to get annyoing after the 5th asteroid. The idea with having to deflect them while you have other tasks to attend to is nice but the asteroids were just too overwhelming, especially with the scrolling. But maybe I just got to bitter after my ship's dog died. There is a lot to like in this game, I just think it needs a little polish with the asteroids which cut an otherwise nice game short for me.

Guilty Transplant by AntaresValdemar 2020-05-09T10:11:56Z

I quite enjoyed your game! I really liked the atmosphere. The cover art definetely stoud out to me. The setup was simple but effective. It made myself ask: Why are there creatures crawling around the hospital? Why was Patient 46 a success? I wish you could have had time to add a few story bits. One complaint is that I thought the mapping of the attack was a bit weird, why not put it on the mouse so one does not have to switch hands from keyboard to mouse and back?

Shooty Moony by flyingbear 2020-05-09T11:03:29Z

That was simply awesome. Easily the best game I have played in this Jam so far. I half expected the game to end after I first died. But then the upgrade window opened up and oh boy, was it a blast. The shooting and coin collecting were super satisfying and the progress was almost perfectly planned out. It's impressive that you not only could make such satisfying gameplay but also balance the progression to that degree. No upgrade felt overpriced and even the simple upgrades like double shots changed the game in an meaningful way. I also was impressed that over half an hour in I would still see new enemies. The design of the earth, moon and UFOs was just brilliant and added a lot of character to the game. The little nuances in the gameplay, like the moon changing directions or speeding up shortly when shooting and the money multiplication really helped to liven up the game and are just very fun things to play around with. I don't just wanna sing your praises here, but I'm hard pressed to find something worthwhile to critique. Maybe another soundtrack that could play in higher waves? Maybe a little improvement in the shop UI? Other than that I just want more of the game, more upgrades more everything so I can play more and a save function so I can continue where I left off. Thank you for making this awesome entry!

Stranded by notnullnotvoid 2020-04-23T19:03:08Z

Wow. From start to finish this game made me feel quite tense. I was especially tense when I had to move the battery down and all my previously built bonfires died one after the other (it took me a while to figure out I could build them). The lighting was really well done and contributed greatly to the atmosphere. The controls were also very untuitive. Maybe the fire could have dwindled a bit faster though because the big bonfires felt really strong in terms of range and lifetime and were not very hard to set up. A hardcore suggestions would be one tree = one wood (but that would probably screw with the balancing quite a bit). I was a bit sad when I dropped off the battery and the game ended, I was ready to go into the forest again. Thanks for making the nice entry to the Jam, we will be looking forward to your next game!

Exosphere by M8rix 2020-05-09T10:28:37Z

I really liked your game, I just wish I was better at it. Judging from the comments some people made it over 4000. That's insane. I like that you can freely control your speed and have to be extra careful with your life. The aesthetic of the game really spoke to me. It reminded me of a more refined version of those endless mobile games with similiar mechanics. Sometimes I thought that going sideways is a bit tricky, I had my most collisions when trying to fit between two squares which often almost seemed impossible. That paired with the fact that sometimes you would fly into a dead end without seeing it made it more difficult than it had to be at times. I'm glad to hear a soundtrack is in the works!

Apocalypse Baby by STREETGEEK 2020-05-09T09:50:43Z

With such a title I couldn't just not play this game. While everything is pretty barebones I still had my fun with this. The soundtrack gives me DOOM vibes and the zombies were.... Well, special. I expected them to attack me when they get closer, instead they do a little synchronous dance while getting kinda getting stuck in the ground. This opened up a new opportunity of play: I you can't kill them, let them dance. Thanks for making this!

Germicide by tCubix 2020-04-22T20:45:52Z

Definitely a nice concept and a decent Tower Defense. The art is fantastic and the soundtrack is exactly what I want from a TD. It seems like I'm far away from being the first one to say this, but tower placement is very very broken.

Sentience Protocol by Disthron 2020-05-09T11:26:46Z

The aesthetic of your game is awesome, it's retro yet futuristic and reminds me of outrun or a few more obscure cyberpunk games. Judging by your story-setup, these seem to have been an influence. I like the idea of giving public speeches to sway people and the arguments were nicely written. I think the game would have benefitted greatly from a soundtrack and soundeffects that complement the aesthetic. Like many others here I find what you actually do in the game a bit unimpactful. People stop and listen but there is no indication how many or how effective what you say is. I don't know if it is a bug but at the end it just says 'you have convinced a few people, you have 0 days left' and it doesn't continue... I expected there to be an end to the game where it tells me if I succeeded in my endeavor. I really wish I could see that, otherwise everything that came before: my hard journey to make people see the truth, was for nothing. Building on what you accomplished I see a lot of potential here. Do you plan to give the game a few updates? I would love to check out an updated version od your game. Thank you for making this game!

Genki by GOD COLO 2020-04-22T20:30:27Z

I had a blast playing this. A short blast which lasted about 226.45 I think. The soundtrack is an absolute banger and I'm contemplating ripping it from the game files so I can put it in my playlist (that's a joke, unless...) did you make it yourself? The problem was just that towards the end the game it became unplayable framerate wise and unbeatable difficulty wise. Less onscreen enemies or a more powerful projectile could easily fix that though. I really felt quite Genki while playing and I would have felt Genki throughout, if it hadn't been for that impossible end.

The Planetarian by Undead Aubergine 2020-04-22T19:21:18Z

That was a neat little game. I especially enjoyed the intro. It was a nice way to start the off. I also liked the artstyle. Also the narrative twist when you die is a nice touch, would have been cool to see even more versions of dying screens (but maybe that just shows how bad I was at playing). I have to admit that I didn't get very far with the crafting so I probably didn't even see all the game had to offer. I initially got quite confused with the crafting, I thought it would show you the recipe when you hovered over the thing that you needed. It might have been more intuitive to see it this way. Also, maybe clicking on the AI guradian should display the last instruction again, that way you could probably avoid a fair bit of confusion. We will look forward to your next game!

Hikari’s Journey 光の旅 — the umbral world by Junber 2021-10-11T23:08:40Z

Thank you a lot @arya-s ! Your reactions on LadyMistLeaf's stream were a joy to behold. You really made my (I'm the writer) day. Glad to see the game resonated with you and many other people here.

SEXY BOOBY 95 by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-10-05T22:16:02Z

Ah, this brings back memories. The complicated process of balancing not getting caught and maneuvering countless janky interfaces will always be one of those things I look back on fondly. Thank you for this great and stylish entry. I think you really knocked it out of the park design and art-wise. It really did feel like the olden days where I was but a wee lad on the search of some Internet booba. I also think if you added a few more random blue-screens you would arrive at a marketable Windows build. Great work, as always!

Binary Blasterz『ロボット 弾幕』 by Junber 2022-10-04T16:40:51Z

@enjl Glad you liked it! Time as always was too short for everything we wanted to do. The most egregious thing, however, was a bug in the web-version of our game that omitted the entire story told in the transition between the levels - short though it may have been. We have fixed that now.

Binary Blasterz『ロボット 弾幕』 by Junber 2022-10-04T16:51:11Z

@federico-delgado Thanks for checking out our game! Yup, we are lucky to have an artist as talented as @sturo for this project. The legibility of backgrounds etc. is always a challenge with binary color restrictions, hope it was manageable regardless. We have fixed an issue where the web browser version did not display story and further content.

Binary Blasterz『ロボット 弾幕』 by Junber 2022-10-04T16:54:29Z

@ronn-fever Happy you enjoyed it! Unfortunately it was not as polished as we hoped. The web-browser version of the game did not display our short story told in the Captain's logs between the levels at all. If you want more, you could give it another spin now. The levels are partly procedurally generated, at least in the way the enemies spawn so it should feel different on a new playthrough.

Binary Blasterz『ロボット 弾幕』 by Junber 2022-10-04T17:02:44Z

@megafuze Wait till you read the story then. It's pretty short this time around but the fact that so few people experienced it this time is a bummer. It was meant to be part of the game but the browser version of the game, which we reckon most people played, did not display it at all.
