That was epic, loved the story, its really well executed. Big issue I had though was the camera moving where ever I moved the mouse, was quite frustrating. Also watering the plants was such a chore but that might have been intentional haha. I'll do the chores if it keeps my Adam alive.

Loved the game, well done.

nonsans 2020-04-22 19:50

I really liked the narrative part of the game and I wish I could have seen more of it. Unfortunately big parts of the gameplay were not very enticing. The asteroid deflection often felt like a hassle. I like that lines showed where they were coming from, but the fact that the game was constantly scrolling everywhere made it really hard to deflect them. If one level required me to do more than deflect, there was just no time to do it. The sound that played when one was aproaching started to get annyoing after the 5th asteroid. The idea with having to deflect them while you have other tasks to attend to is nice but the asteroids were just too overwhelming, especially with the scrolling. But maybe I just got to bitter after my ship's dog died. There is a lot to like in this game, I just think it needs a little polish with the asteroids which cut an otherwise nice game short for me.

silkworm-sweatshop 2020-04-22 22:50

@selftitled Yeah the camera scrolling could use some polish, it doesn't feel quite right. I think having it static and able to zoom in and out might've worked better. @nonsans I'm sorry for the frustration! I think I know what happened and it is both a design flaw and some bad luck on your end. The asteroid sections are never supposed to go on for long and are actually supposed to overwhelm you, HOWEVER, during the second large surge (with the blue asteroids) the level won't actually progress unless you have a dog alive (I'm guessing this is what happened and you got stuck with endless asteroids). If a dog dies you can actually release another one and continue but I realize that during the chaos it's probably not the first thing on a players mind. I'd definitely change this somehow if I do a post jam version. If you do decide to give the game another go to see where it goes I'd suggest you don't even worry about the asteroids. They're honestly a narrative device more than anything and don't appear in the rest of the game after that.

The narrative was sick! Great story. The asteroids were very tediouse because of the camera. I liked the ending, it was great!

rojola 2020-04-23 13:14

This was pretty ok space management game. Maybe things progressed little too slowly but overall progressed anyway. Controls were simple which was very good, but maybe the screen scrolling should have been eliminated as sometimes it was very difficult to trying to hit the asteroids as the screen drifted away. Good job for a one weekend! Musci was very good, but I was hoping different sound effect for asteroid crashing the ship or being hit by laser.

anthony-pengelly 2020-04-23 16:55

Really cool game! Nice one. I really enjoyed the storyline :D

polarfuchs 2020-04-23 17:02

I liked the story. I think it was a bit random. But overall it was fun.

justalocalhero 2020-04-23 17:05

What an awesome immersive experience.

The narrative and the music established the tone well.

The art style is really creative.

Lots of little pieces of polish like the asteroid tracking lines.

My only complaint is that edge pan for camera control doesn't work great in browser, it's too easy to go out of the canvas. You could lock the mouse or choose a different camera control scheme.

edit: on second look, I have one more small complaint. The stars in the background don't quite reach all of the visible space, and the base image is a little small so you can see the tiling at a glance. Picking nits. Something that could be improved without too much pain.

Really enjoyed the game. Bravo.

shinlalala 2020-04-23 17:07

Great concept, great narrative. Starts as something in which it feels like you have to manage way too much at the same time. But it's fine. The only complaint I have is that I don't like how you managed the camera movements when your mouse is on the edge of the screen.

igizzy 2020-04-24 00:33

Really like the concept, and fantastic job with your writing.

baby-dino-herd 2020-04-24 00:34

You've done a really stellar job with this game! Art, music, story, mood, everything was done very well with obvious levels of polish, and I enjoyed playing through all of it.

I will agree with some other comments: the mouse scrolling didn't end up working very well, especially when trying to repeatedly click back and forth between different areas. A static camera, or one controlled by arrow keys, may have been a nicer fit. This would also help speed up the game when doing those tasks.

Other than that, excellent job!

ownedstuff 2020-04-24 00:35

bruh that music is SOOO good. The camera controls very weird and is pretty finicky in the browser but the music! the concept is good but the asteroids are a bit much. Other then that the game is very cool.

dick-claus 2020-04-24 10:03

That's narrative is so dramatic. I love this game. So touching and cute.

The only problem is that oxygen low warning is a little bit annoying. Maybe putting it to the top right corner and disable sound during the cut scenes?

The best jam game I've played so far and right to the topic. Well done!

Great story telling. Nice music and graphics. Good concept. Good luck in your game!

dsf100 2020-04-24 10:28

It's a very immersive game, very nice game!

kiddy 2020-04-24 14:42

I love this game and the story but the camera is a bit snesitive.

kiririn51 2020-04-24 18:45

Lovely game, kept me hooked mainly because of how clear and simple the controls were, yet the challenge kept piling on in a way that didn't feel like it was my fault whenever i failed. the camera could use some work though.

echo-team 2020-04-24 20:46

Something different for a change! Only thing I ran into was when I tried SPOILERS to feed dead doggo to Adam but it didn't take, so I disposed of him and I was told not to waste food... END SPOILERS

silkworm-sweatshop 2020-04-24 21:04

@echo-team Oh no! I'm guessing you got softlocked after that? I know why it's happening and I'll fix it!

**Edit: Actually, the dead dog should still get disposed, it's only the "do not to waste food" message that is wrong.**

**Edit 2: Nevermind, I tried it now, there is thankfully no softlock, so I'll just leave it for now.**

slotha 2020-04-25 04:06

Awesome Game! The story got me hooked from the start!

echo-team 2020-04-25 05:57

@silkworm-sweatshop There was no softlock, I had SPOILERS enough humans END SPOILERS XD

nachocp 2020-04-25 16:56

Great music and love to read the AI. The mouse is a bit funky to use when shooting asteroids.

nosfer 2020-04-25 18:31

Love the story and MUSIC!

100th-coin 2020-04-25 19:55

The camera moving around makes it pretty hard to shoot things. Otherwise, the story is fun, and the art was nice too!

hoyr 2020-04-26 03:44

Neat really cool. Gonna have to echo all the people talking about the camera. What ever you used to display text also paused a bit oddly on abbreviated words with periods in them which made the text display not flow as well. Unless that's what you wanted to happen.

captaindreamcast 2020-04-26 15:49

Whoa, this took a turn I didn't expect! The writing was great, I was absolutely glued to the screen after the AI gained sentience. May Adam live long and his seed prosper.

Gameplay-wise I liked the management aspect of it and how it was paced. Oxygen as this constant looming threat, with food and asteroids thrown in during parts to make sure you are 100% occupied. I'd also like to praise how well you managed to connect gameplay and story, especially after the humans come in. Wonderful game all around, I loved every second of it!

jordgubben 2020-04-26 18:19

I quickly found myself intrigued by the both dark and at the same time whimsical inner monolog of the protagonist. Graphics and audio are both spot on for what this game is about.

I had a bit of a struggle with the controls. Especially the unintentional scrolling that 1/3 of my mouse movements caused. Perhaps the game could zoom out during the asteroid sections (since those are the only times when it's meaningfull to click on something outside the ship) and be locked centring on the ship at all other times.

daniil-tcyvakin 2020-04-26 22:30

Nice concept! good job!

cryptomnesic 2020-04-27 12:23

Great story! I had trouble with the camera scrolling as well. Would be better with cursor keys maybe? More of this! With a full campaign, I'd buy it.

rongo-matane 2020-04-28 14:11

As usual, very well delivered narative! Moody presentation and well written, it tells a beautiful little story. Gameplay is more of a filler to the story, but i'm fine with that. Only issue i had was the camera movement. On the bottom and left it only moved on the very border, right and top it moved earlier. This was a problem when aiming at asteroids - i place my the cursor on them but shortly before i get there, the camera moves and with it the cursor. It seemed to me i could not "fail" the game, which was very reassuring and made it more relaxing - otherwise the fear of losing and having to start over would have put more focus on the mechanics. But this way, it was really story driven. I like it :)

wzqxrys 2020-04-29 09:21

Awesome game, camera was a bit hard, but thats fine by me, loved the small parts of AI.

kirbloid 2020-04-30 01:28

This brought together so much more than just pet management with a ship protection game, as the story and atmosphere added up to so much with this whole package. The art style worked well with the aesthetic, and wow, the soundtrack, right as it starts, kept adding to the atmosphere. I'd say good mashup but that wouldn't be correct, as I think this was a very solid whole where the different genres of gameplay and storytelling all worked together.

epb9000 2020-05-03 08:31

Camera control was my only gripe. This was super solid, and excellent mood setting. Adam is good Doggo.

ava-skoog 2020-05-11 16:57

I like it but I'm not able to finish it. 😭

I feel like I either broke the game or am missing something. Ship started getting bombarded after I befriended the dog and it just never moved on from there, kept going forever. The text box that had given me objectives before that was gone so I didn't know what to do. Also had no chance of keeping up with the pace the objects kept peppering me at. 😢 The scrolling thing made it hard to hit them too.

But of course as usual I love your art style and the sounds were very nice and the music helped set a nice and moody atmosphere. 💜

silkworm-sweatshop 2020-05-11 17:43

@ava-skoog Most likely the dog died (you need one dog alive and released for the game to progress). There are 3 dog pods so you can release another one if one dies and continue. If you give it another go, don't even worry about the asteroids (you can't win against them :P, they're just part of the story).
