Hi there, just played your game. The graphics is great to me, especially the animation details. Gameplay is smooth and easy. The ideal fit the theme very well. Some suggestions, maybe coins can also effect the jump height? I know it means much more work on level design and test. And for me, if the scene happen in the bank would make more sense to me, like the robby collects coins in the bank at last escape. Overall, a 4.5 star game for me. btw: Coppy in lv3 are so crazy (/TДT)/

cpcrabs 2017-12-04 03:50

Super well done and polished game, the audio and visuals are both spot on! Really fun to play as well.

formalcloud 2017-12-04 04:06

Oh God, falling to your death lol. Nice work!

acsid 2017-12-04 04:16

Good game. Manage to get to level 3 will try to get trough all the level. i like how the coppy are working. Nice game mechanics.

flubz 2017-12-04 20:36

Loving the audio, graphics are also quite nice

dbongames 2017-12-05 06:53

Character graphics and music were by far the standout here! Game-play wasn't really all that engaging, but the beautiful details made up for it.

gerardb 2017-12-05 19:33

Fun game. Plays good, looks cool and has ragdoll physics. What else can you ask for? ;)

synthphonia 2017-12-05 19:35

gameplay needs to have more twists, more options, but rest is pretty good :)

dan-colman 2017-12-05 19:50

Nice graphics, good player controller, great theme connection - its a little boring, needs some variety, faster start to the action.

amir-bayareh 2017-12-05 19:51

I loved falling from the stage! Nice game, but I think the levels could have a better design. I couldn't get pass level two because my speed was so slow I didn't reach the next platform. Nice music!

chazatron16 2017-12-05 19:56

Nice game, good job creating multiple levels. It plays very smoothly. The thing I enjoyed most about it was the music!

jungle 2017-12-05 20:34

I love push cops to death... ahhahahah. Great game, nice movements animations, nice use for the theme. Congratulations

Great and fun game. Did you made music yourself here as well? Because i rated you in music - if so - great job - music is absolutely amazing! Hited theme perfectly, gameplay is nice and polished. Great job!

You can check out my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/voxel-mob-arena - thanks!

joski 2017-12-05 22:17

Follow the theme and good controls, nice game! Need more game mechanics along with progression. Good job!

imphenzia 2017-12-05 22:49

Thanks all for your comments so far. I understand there needs to be more challenges and variations to the mechanics to keep it interesting so that's valuable input - I may make a post-compo version of it and add content and new challenges.

Yes @bartosz, I made the music too - music what I've done longer than making games although I do find it challenging to make music under pressure because some days it just "doesn't click" - but I wanted a synth '80s cop-series style track so I did what I could during the two hours I had put aside for music =)

bartosz 2017-12-05 22:58

@imphenzia - that's very well spent 2h - i'm amazed with this tune :O What software do you used for this? Btw - i give you 5 in audio because there is no 6 ;)

imphenzia 2017-12-05 23:16

@bartosz I use Cubase (7.5) for the music but that's mostly just for sequencing because the sound themselves are from VST instruments like Nexus, Elektra, Nemesis, and Omnisphere to name a few. Thanks again! Much appreciated!

bismark 2017-12-06 00:55

Another good game from you, @imphenzia. I'am waiting to see your traditional timelapse video. :-)

imphenzia 2017-12-06 03:03

@bismark thanks. I just finished making one so I will upload in a few hours :)

kornel 2017-12-06 09:22

One of the best platformers during this LD I've played. The controls are nice and snappy. Sometimes it's hard do judge if will you make a jump since the jump distance changes constantly.

I like the graphics and animations. Also the audio is super nice :)

PS: I hope I don't brake any rules by saying thanks for make all the awesome assets for Unity :D

imphenzia 2017-12-06 10:42

Thanks @kornel - glad controls feel good, that have been my biggest nemesis so far in the past. Thanks for taking the time to play, rate, and comment =)

imphenzia 2017-12-06 10:42

Now @bismark, the timelapse video is published :)

bismark 2017-12-06 11:05

Thanks for the timelapse ... with comments. :-D

gustavhehehe 2017-12-06 11:11

Nice work! The music made me think it was a race against the clock at first before I understood that I had all the time in the world and the coins/weight was the challenge.

nights87 2017-12-06 13:16

Oh man this game is crazy fun! You nailed the theme and i love the music, especially how when you eat a chocolate bar the music changes to a fast paced version. That was a really nice addition.

I found myself just needing to collect the coins because of how shiny they were and the satisfying sound effect you got when you picked them up! Unfortunately I was way too greedy most of the time, until I learned to resist the temptation to grab them (i felt like the character in that respect).

The character's jump animation was strangely cool too. Not sure what it was, but it made jumping fun.

Nice work all round!

mike-cullingham 2017-12-06 17:51

Loved the sound and animation when you fall and smack into the ground. I didn't really notice the bag of gold slowing me down, and got every bag I saw on the first 2 levels, so the effect may be a little too gradual / subtle, but it's a good idea for the theme. Nice crisp graphics.

imphenzia 2017-12-06 20:33

@nights87 - thanks! Glad you like it. I have to resist too on levels 3-4-5 even though I know that maybe just a another one or two could increase the highscore =)

@mike-cullingham - yeah, sound is a combination of a Doritos crisp being crushed in my hand and various thuds of me banging a couple of things right next to me like a pillow and a door. Yes, the effect is not really too apparent until level 3 and onwards where you have to start skipping coins to make it.

robert-newman 2017-12-07 15:56

This is one of the better more complete games i have played so far, trying to resist the temptation to collect all the coins while avoiding the law was soo much fun

Liked your post of new drawings for the game as well

guilherme-coutinho 2017-12-07 16:23

Character graphics and music were really really good!

Game-play wasn’t that good, but overall its okay.

moski 2017-12-07 16:45

Ah, come on. It's not robbery if the coins were just lying around on the floor!

chrome_2017-12-07_11-39-45.png

With fluid visuals and tight mechanics, this game was a cool experience to play. Since the change of speed was so gradual, I actually barely noticed getting slower and slower until I started a new level. Turns out, I was just slowly forgetting how fast this robber actually was.

I liked the overall feeling of the game. Nothing too floaty, and nothing that felt unfair. The policemen were easy to spot, and because they had a tell, it always felt possible to dodge them, assuming the player had enough speed. The risk-reward factor did become relevant in the later part of the game. It also adds a bit of challenge to just have 3 bars for the whole game. Makes it more tactical to manage them.

Great submission there. [In behalf of my team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames), we're rooting for your future projects and during the compo! Good job! :whale:

matthias-schedel 2017-12-07 17:38

Amazing game :) - a small detail you could easily improve: Make your jump-power dependent on the holding duration of the jump button

imphenzia 2017-12-08 00:39

Thanks so much for your feedback - I really appreciate it! @moski - he blew up the bank during the night, he's trying to salvage what he can on his way to freedom - but you have a fair point still =) Thanks also for the detailed comment and kind wishes. @matthias-schedel - thanks, I actually tried that during the compo but I felt that the delay before jumping on release feel "unnatural" - is that a common way to handle jumps? Maybe I just implemented it odd :)

I posted these in the LD-feed but today I sketched a potential of 31 characters to be used in a post-compo version:

Fun game and great art

billeclipse 2017-12-08 02:34

Great game and in games like that you really can i understand how important a timelapse can be. Not that the game it self doesn't show how much work someone has spend on it but when you really see the timelapse you really appreciate the hard work and what it needs to make a game for 48 hours all from scratch... Really great work! Keep it up and can't wait to see more games from you :D

ihateyouse 2017-12-08 20:14

I liked all you did. The art was really great and I hope you take this further. I'm not a big platformer guy, but this was fun to try out. Good job.

jacklehamster 2017-12-09 08:40

Good points on animation and controls! I think you should use that strength to make a game where we can interact with the characters. You have good art, so it works well when you have a game with a story.

hunttis 2017-12-14 21:11

Nice work on the animation, the graphics and the music :-o

The controls are pretty good too, the levels could use a little more work. The jumps don't quite "click". I'll try to explain. When you jump from a square block onto the next one (in one of those stairs-parts), you jump over the coin and you have to walk back. It's a really minor thing, but you kind of expect to collect the coin with that jump :)

Cheers, happy to have played it! :)

arron-fowler 2017-12-15 08:56

Not really much else to add to the other comments. Well handled, good looking easily playable and totally enjoyable. Top work.

ddrkirbyisq 2017-12-17 09:37

Hehe, fun concept. Some nitpicks: 1) The gray brick texture on the platforms looks like it it's being scaled or rendered in a way such that it looks pretty poor when moving around on the screen (e.g. when you're jumping and the camera moves). 2) Left clicking on the start game button often also caused the first candy bar to be eaten.

gelisam 2017-12-19 04:11

I enjoyed the game, but found it too punishing sometimes. There's a spot in the second level in which I can either spend an energy bar to jump onto the top platform, or try my luck using the bottom path, in which case I am likely to bump my head on the ceiling and fall to my death because of the narrow gap. Which would be fine, if lives and energy bars weren't in such limited quantity! Maybe give fewer energy bars but refill them every level? Or start with zero and hide them around the levels? Because there are some gaps which are clearly impossible without an energy bar or very few coins, which is frustrating because some coins seem impossible to dodge and I don't know how many such gaps there will be over the entire game. Those large gaps also discourage me from experimenting with the bars in other interesting situations such as for dodging the cops or to access hard-to-reach coins, because any use of an energy bar in an area in which it isn't mandatory feels like a waste.

Also, it's a bit weird to be leaving the bank with 0 coins and an empty bag. Maybe the bank could be the end of the level instead, so instead of robbing the bank, the robber is depositing his coins there so he can start the next level with an empty bag?
