LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Robby & Coppy by Imphenzia 2017-12-06T13:16:13Z

Oh man this game is crazy fun! You nailed the theme and i love the music, especially how when you eat a chocolate bar the music changes to a fast paced version. That was a really nice addition.

I found myself just needing to collect the coins because of how shiny they were and the satisfying sound effect you got when you picked them up! Unfortunately I was way too greedy most of the time, until I learned to resist the temptation to grab them (i felt like the character in that respect).

The character's jump animation was strangely cool too. Not sure what it was, but it made jumping fun.

Nice work all round!

Boiler Room Defense by cerno-b 2017-12-06T11:54:13Z

Lol this game is a thrill ride! At first I was like 'why am I boiler flying in space outside a window' and then after about a minute I just got caught up in the insanity of it all and had a blast. There were a few times I died without realising it was the ice that was killing me, but after a while I got the concept.

Having a leader board was a real nice addition too. Makes you want to keep playing! Even the music became quite enjoyable despite initially seeming a bit too harsh. This is a sold effort, congratulations! Check out ours as well: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/$53149 :)

Larry Kroft and the Temple of Booze by thomz12 2017-12-05T13:51:53Z

I had fun with this! It was just what I wanted it to be. Makes me think of old school crash bandicoot! Nice one :)

Monuments by Corny 2017-12-06T13:28:11Z

*First thing I do is plant two orchard at the beginning of the game* Me:'Uhhhhhh i think I just stuffed up' Hahahah This game was real fun! The music really grew on me and I found it to be the best part, I'm still humming it even after playing. The sound effects were great too. Congrats on a solid game!

SPLIT by steven-pinto 2017-12-06T14:56:13Z

Haha I loved it! These are my favourite types of games (I made something similar for this gamejam, it's called Althea and the Magical Fruit - you should check it out)

The drawings were fantastic, the game kept me hooked until the end and I loved how the screen narrowed when you entered a cutscene. It gave it a really dramatic effect. I hope you continue to make games like these, because there aren't that many out there! Atmosphere was awesomely creepy, though I think the story was a bit to predictable. Most people would figure it out quite quickly, so if there's any feedback I would give it would to be to try the story more subtle. But that being said you did it all yourself which is absolutely incredible and a massive achievement! You should be proud!

Beer Me by Ramou 2017-12-06T12:35:55Z

Haha this game made me crack up laughing. I just kept throwing beers and all I heard were the smashes of glass as they hit the floor ;D Nice work! Graphically it looked like a really nice and cosy bar to be in, and i think you nailed the feel of being a bar tender.

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-06T12:44:23Z

@interpol Thanks heaps for your feedback! I'm glad to hear you liked it (and escaped? haha). I will definitely take your feedback on board when I polish it (I agree with you about the text sound). Cheers for playing :D

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-06T12:51:43Z

@interpol Thanks! Already onto it.

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-06T14:03:27Z

@masadow Ah shame! It's probably not very clear but you have to give peaches to each of the cats in the cat lady's house. I might make that more obvious. Thanks for your feedback :) I hope you give it another try cos you're right, day 3 is where it all happens ;) And if the controls are laggy I'd recommend downloading the full version, that should fix it.

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-06T15:03:01Z

@zantze Thanks for playing it and giving us your thoughts! It's how we learn for next time :) I agree the world is a bit too big. It was our first game so we didn't really have a good idea of scale and there was also a lot of cut content too that would have added more to the days. But glad to hear you enjoyed the story :D

And as a hint for getting the keys: The Thompson family has one notable weakness ;)

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-06T15:44:53Z

@steven-pinto You're game was great too :) Thanks for the comment. Haha you're absolutely right - some drawings we added to the game as placeholders until better art could be made, but in the end time ran out and some of the placeholder art got left in!

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-06T22:50:43Z

@ongomato Yeah atmosphere was definitely what we were going for. Thanks ongomato. And we appreciate the feedback. The stuttering is something to do with the web version that I haven't been able to fix yet. If anyone else is having the same issue, I'd recommend downloading the .zip version for a better experience.

@kyoute Yep plenty to work on to improve but can't wait for the one! The keys are tricky but the Thompson's give you a hint on one of the previous days ;) Thanks for your comment

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-08T12:25:09Z

@fis Those are some good ideas. On the third day we originally we planned for the mother to be standing facing the wall, acting strange, only to become aggressive if you step on any of the furniture! (I don't know if you noticed but on day 1 she yells at you if you step on some of the objects in the house). Your dog was also going to attack you on day 2, and on that day you would have had to step on the furniture in order to be 'safe' from it. Unfortunately all that got cut due to time constraints but you can see remnants of the ideas there.

Sorry you made the trip to the tree on the third day and found nothing. It sounded like a 'fruitless' venture :P We really should block the path on the final day. Thanks for playing!

Feed Them by Fis 2017-12-06T14:14:35Z

I didn't know what was going on, but I was having a blast! The graphics and music alone just made it a really enjoyable experience. I think you did really well on those two aspects.

I understood the concept after a while. Good interpretation of the theme and great for a first game. Check out my first game too :) Hope you keep on making games and can't wait to see the next one!

Super Coin by BlueMirror 2017-12-06T14:34:16Z

I really liked it! It was a solid interpretation of the theme that wasn't over the top like other bullet games, but the best part about it was how satisfying the sound effects were when you killed something and how head bopping the music was (did you create it yourself? I loved the random sound effects amongst it!)

The visuals obviously need work, but the core game itself is great. Good stuff !

Evil Money by interpol 2017-12-06T12:15:43Z

Hey its your first game jam too? Awesome. I love how addictive your game is!

I really liked the progress bar that showed you exactly what your goal was, how you could be greedy and still out-manoeuvre the guards and also the sound effect of picking up the cash. Fitting music too. You should be proud of making a solid game for your first jam. I feel the same way, we made a quirky little game called Althea and the magical fruit (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/$53149) If you have a chance I hope you can give us your thoughts! All the best with your next game jam, I definitely can't wait for the next one :)

Inky Pinky Square by Psychedelia 2017-12-06T14:00:21Z

It's so happy! Hahahaha I love it! I think you did really well nailing the concept. It totally did get trickier when Inky and Pinky joined you, but the level design was really intelligent and made it all possible. I honestly couldn't stop playing, so thats a good sign you've made a great game! The music was insanely catchy too. Awesome job on a first game, it was my first attempt this game jam too. I hope you can check out my attempt at some point :)

(P.S. I don't have kids but playing this game I imagined it was exactly what it would be like.'No.. dont go there...noooo NO NO DONT DO THAT COME BACK HERE' hahahaha

Escape Infection! by 11tomi12 2017-12-06T11:43:49Z

This is a neat little game! I loved the pumping music that made it intense yet enjoyable to listen to for a long time. It was an addictive concept too!

One small change I think you could make to really improve on it would be to make it so when you reach one edge of the screen you appear on the other side. (At the moment you drift into an area you can't see). That way you'd have to keep an eye on whats happening on the other side as well whats in front of you, but there'd also be more options to get out of a 'sticky' situation as it were :D

All round a surprisingly solid and fun game! Good stuff. I hope you can also check out our little rpg at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/$53149 :)

The Burger Joint by zantze 2017-12-06T13:39:27Z

This game is hilarious, I laughed so many times out loud. First thing I accidentally did was toss the plate away. As pro burger chefs do right?'PLATE? NUP DONT NEED THAT *Whoooshhh*' Haha :P Unfortunately I couldn't deliver the burgers (did you fix on the browser version?), it would be fun to see the rest of the game. Great job on your first game jam. It also happens to be my first one too! *Hi five* We both got to submit a final product which is awesome. Check out mine if you've got the time https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/$53149 Congrats!
