I'm confused. What can I do from here? Untitled.png

Edit: I figured it out, you have to hit escape to go to the next level

I like the idea of different colors are different powers! Very well done.

The concept is nice but the execution seems to have some problems. At the start, I spent like 2 minutes trying to figure out what to do, until realizing that hitting the lamps is what triggers the lava rising and there's a wall jump that doesn't act like a traditional wall jump at all. It would be nice if these were explained in-game or something. Oh well.

Other than that there isn't much to say, it's a decent puzzle platformer. It could have a bit more polish maybe, but I enjoyed what I played.

A well done game. has its quirks, but was quick and fun. Also a little challenging.

The PROS: Neat controls but theres one thing... (see: cons) Simple graphics Cool game mechanics, like the teleportation lamp for example Quick

The CONS: Controls. Why cant i jump with up arrow as well? or use WASD? No sound effects. Simple bleeps and bloops wouldve been coolio. Walljump is a bit weird but eh, it was allright.

Suggestions: No walljump but doublejump maybe? Found myself pushing space twice alot.

A solid 7.6/10 for a LD40 entry Rob :D

@BenBurgh Yeah I forgot to mention that you progress when you break all the lamps, it has nothing to do with pressing escape. In the screenshot there is a lamp below the lava that you need to break first. Also, thanks c:

@Mors Thanks! The game is without doubt in need of polish and explenations on what to do, but I simpley didnt have the time. The wall jump I never was happy with.

Some good ideas and nice level design. Wall jumpy stuff was definitely finicky... but overall really enjoyed it. Love the simple little movement animation, haha.

The graphics are very clean and the movement is solid with a great animation! Although very simple, the main character is very like-able :) The link with the theme is the weakest point, imo. Sound effects would be a great addition to the game.

I had a genuinely good time playing this one. A short puzzle game, not super challenging, but not outright boring. It certainly has a lot of potential to be further expanded should you decide to add more levels and mechanics down the line.

Gameplay wise, it plays great, with intuitive controls. The walljumping is a bit odd at times, but otherwise, it allows for a lot of flexibility for puzzle solving. I also like how the lava looks.

Neat showcase here. [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we hope to see more of your future projects. Cheers! :whale:

Deceptively rich puzzle game! It took me some time to understand the mechanics, but you have something really interesting here! :)

Pretty enjoyable game. As others said it takes a it of time to understand the mechanics such as double jumping but I found it fun! The graphics are also pretty good.

Personally I'd add sound to the game (even just simple sound effects for jumping and shooting would be great). There's definately a lot of potential for expansion with new mechanics and levels. You definitely have something good here!

An interesting puzzle platformer. I like the combination of strategic thinking and timing needed to traverse the levels, especially as lava lamps with different effects were introduced.

A bug: The game froze for me at the level with the three explosive lava lamps. I was caught in the lava, and then the lava animation played forever. The level didn't restart.

The lack of sounds makes the mood suffer a bit. It would be nice to have audible feedback when e.g. jumping, destroying the different types of lamps, shooting, winning and dying. I would recommend using a tool such as https://www.bfxr.net/ for simple sound effects. It allows you to randomly generate a number of short simple sound effects of various types in a matter of minutes.

The graphics are simple and functional, and the lava effect is interesting and very clearly lethal. Letting the lava rise more gradually, might allow for a more tense (and forgiving) experience, but as it is it does give a nice "OH NO!" effect whenever you destroy a lava lamp. The small touches in animation, including the "exploding death" were also a nice touch.

>Hunting down the lamps! >No Lava Lamp shall survive! >Lava Rising! JUMP!

That was a nice and shortly-contained clever puzzle platformer, and despite the unfortunate and sad theming of having to destroy lava lamps that did absolutely nothing wrong, it featured several interesting ideas that make it a really clever entry.

Mechanics and levels were really well thought, especially in the latter ones with the teleportation and lava-jumping lava lamps. The only mechanic that I felt didn't really connect much with me was the wall-jumping, as it felt irresponsible or too frame perfect at times. I personally think the design of the levels would have allowed for double-jumping to work without compromising the blue lava-lamp mechanic.

Otherwise, the presentation was simplistic but direct to the point and I personally found myself comfortable with it. If anything, I'm slightly disappointed at the lack of any sound or music, but I'll look over that as I don't think I'd want to hear the breaking sounds of those poor lava lamps either.

[In behalf of our team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames) ~~(got to plug it even if moski has already commented above)~~ allow me to say that you've made a very nice work and I honestly hope that you're able to reach the 20 ratings until tomorrow! Thank you! :whale:

Not too bad. I feel like there needs to be some more sound, feels a bit boring currently. The little "wall jump" thing is a bit strange, as it doesn't push you away hard enough. The blue lamps not adding lava is also a bit strange since every other lamp adds lava.

cool idea. i really had fun playing it. needs some audio, even a simple one would be ok

Really love the concept, and the execution is quite good. Would be nice if it had some kind of introduction to the mechanics. Regardless I had a lot of fun playing it and look forward to Post-Jam Versions!

This was a great game! The graphics are simple (which I like), and the overall gameplay is challenging. It was very fun, I also thought that the concept you came up with was very interesting. I liked the game overall. I hope to see your game on the leaderboards!

shinyogre 2017-12-28 17:19

A brilliant game. These first few levels are very well paced so that we learn at a comfortable rate. I'd love to see not only more types of lava lamps, but also more dynamics in the level geometry. What if one lamp reversed gravity? What if you only had a limited number of shooty things?

A lot of potential here.
