LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Woofice Chair! by JorgeGameDev 2020-10-14T17:59:14Z

The art and general feel of this game is just incredible, can't believe this has been done in 72 hours! Gameplay is fun as well, though I feel the controls are not perfect yet. After reading the comments some things are clearer, but while playing for the first time I didn't understand what I had to do to make the weapon appear and how often I was supposed to press the space bar. There also seems to be a bug as sometimes pressing space doesn't do anything and the chair just stops (and I die a few seconds later). I hope the controls are improved in a future version because in every other aspect the game is really great and certainly among the best I've played so far!

Pyramid Loop by joewan 2020-10-12T19:20:53Z

A fun game with lots of potential for more difficult levels. It has a kind of elegant simplicity that's really appealing. The only thing that annoyed me a bit was that you have to match the arrow buttons exactly with the target box to lock it in, but that's probably an easy to solve problem.

Mobius by testuser 2020-10-05T08:47:58Z

This really feels like an endless labyrinth, especially in the last section of the game. That was also the best part of the game in my opinion as it felt the most surreal. I easily become disoriented even in non-looping rooms, so that was quite a challenge at first. ;)

The game was stuttering a lot for me as well as I first started it in Chrome but ran very smoothly in Edge, so that may be a browser issue? I had no issues in Edge other than sometimes falling through the ground and coming out on top of the room again which felt a bit glitchy but at the same time added to the surreal feeling. And one time I got stuck in a falling loop for a short time, so maybe it's a feature!

Dude Ranch by ColeSlaughter 2020-10-14T11:22:20Z

I was already sold on this after "Welcome to Dude Ranch!" :D Needed a few seconds to figure out the controls, but after that it was just a lot of fun. I have no idea how on earth it's possible to score a highscore of more than 4000$ though, I don't even get half of that! I guess catching dudes isn't what I should do for a living.

Roller Riches by dxk2294 2020-10-17T10:46:15Z

Definitely the most addictive LD game I played so far! I love the rollercoaster banks. :D Personally I'd prefer the numbers to be shown without exponents (like they appear in the screenshots), as getting longer numbers feels more rewarding to me in games of this type. Or maybe make it an option. Anyway, I had lots of fun with this!

Hang on, Bill! by zanzavar 2020-10-06T20:47:43Z

This one is a clear 5/5 in the theme category! :D And not just in that category, it's really well done and very fun to solve.

while(true) by TomekS 2020-10-06T00:01:57Z

I'm a big fan of the board game "RoboRally" so I just had to play this game which actually feels a bit like a (much less relaxed :D) realtime version of it. It could have been a bit more challenging with some dangerous elements, other robots etc. getting in your way, but on the other hand it might be hard to add those elements without making the game frustrating. The visuals and general aesthetics are really great, and I also liked the music (although I can imagine that it might get a bit repetitive if you play to level 101 :D).

Broodmother by SludgeKey 2020-10-12T18:52:36Z

This has great visuals and a unique style, it's one of the games I wanted to play immediately after taking a look at the screenshots. The animations are well done, too, especially the smooth birthing animation.

At first I had a hard time figuring out how to kill anything, but as soon as I got the first chunks of meat it became fun to fight the spawners. The second level with lots of laser eyes and exploding enemies was really hard, though, and I kept dying a lot, so a less steep difficulty curve would be great.

The Last Henchman by Yoni 2020-10-21T15:34:59Z

A clear 5/5 in the sadly non-existing intro category! :D The game itself is fun too, but I'm just too bad at it to get to the second level. Maybe a health bar instead of instakill would be a good idea (at least for me).

Grinding Gears by Pincushion 2020-10-10T23:09:18Z

Especially the last puzzle was fun to solve and well done. I agree that the mini map is very important in this game. I kinda like the main camera perspective as it reminds me a bit of games like Little Big Adventure, Grim Fandango etc., but without the mini map I probably would have never solved it.

Crazy Scientist: Lost in Dimensions by WormholeGames 2020-10-21T15:19:47Z

Well that was fun! It has lots of content (including boss fights!), great music and (best of all) cow kidnapping aliens. :D The controls felt a bit clunky in the levels where you're jumping a lot between platforms (especially near the end with the disappearing platforms) and the death sound effect was too loud, but that were the only things that bugged me a bit. Really enjoyed this!

Nugget by plloyer 2020-10-05T21:48:28Z

I love the theme and gameplay idea of this game, and it looks (and sounds) fantastic. It's also quite hard (or I'm just bad at it) and I didn't manage to free the poor egg-bird yet. But I guess it's pretty hard for real life eggs & birds to escape a slaughterhouse as well, so unfortunately that's only realistic!

@funemaker I had the same issue in Chrome but it worked in Edge.

Vacuum Cleaner Simulator by Jasuse 2020-10-07T23:20:05Z

I always wanted to get a vacuum cleaner robot, but my rooms are just too crammed for one to work properly, so I'm thankful for the opportunity to at least simulate a vacuum cleaner. Didn't expect I would be able to wreak havoc like a real one, though! I laughed out loud at the ending, didn't see this coming at all. :D Very funny and well made, I really enjoyed this.

TimeSlider - A Dopterra Story by Battlerager 2020-10-06T20:15:51Z

A very fun puzzle game, especially when the time reset mechanics come in. It's amazing how you can make pushing crates interesting again. :D It's also not too easy and it really took me some time to solve three of the rooms. The Slide level was actually the hardest for me to solve, so I already feared it might get really insane with the added time reset mechanics, but most of the levels hit the sweet spot and felt like a challenge without being frustrating. Only the penultimate level was maybe a bit too easy for being the last puzzle, and I'm not sure if I solved it in a way that shouldn't be possible as most puzzles before were much harder. There were no obvious bugs though (I played the patched version) and it felt like a very polished and complete little game in every aspect!

It's also a great example of how good dialogue can contribute even to a gameplay focused game like this. Most of it is basically a tutorial, but it's written so well and funny that I always wanted to get to the next room to read more of it.

The exciting life of a hamster by Nuanda79 2020-10-05T16:09:25Z

This is the first hamster game I've played and it's setting the bar pretty high for any other hamster game to follow! I loved both music & graphics, especially the hamster itself looks great. And gameplaywise it was actually quite thrilling to get that 20 nuts as I was often tempted to jump for a nut when the cat's paw was already approaching. More exciting than your ordinary hamster's life, that's for sure! ;)

Maybe the cat's attacks could be a bit more random, as it felt like the timings were more or less the same each time, but it wasn't too easy nevertheless and my hamster got scrached a few times before I got the 20 nuts.

Dr. Needles and the Nightclub by funemaker 2020-10-24T11:06:26Z

The intro and general presentation of this is great, so I quite enjoyed it although it was more or less just running around without a clue. :D As others have already said, it would be more interesting if people would talk to you and send you to a specific direction etc. Feels like a solid foundation that just needs some more gameplay.

DisasterWheel by TangoMango 2020-10-07T23:02:50Z

I always wanted to know what it's like to be a christmas ball stuck in a ferris wheel during a meteorite shower, and now I finally know. The game also taught me an important lesson for life when I got my highest score of 103 seconds by just doing nothing: Always keep calm in case of a sudden disaster!

Visuals and music were really good and it's a funny interpretation of the theme. As others already said, the movement physics and predictability of the meteorite attacks could be improved, and some explosive sound effects for the impacts would have been nice.

Space Police Simulator Platinum by Future Labs Unlimited 2020-10-05T23:51:39Z

@testuser @tangomango @hydrasil @firegamer3 @coding4rtist @pincushion Many thanks for playing and commenting to all of you! :)

@coding4rtist The WASD keys were the last thing I tried to add, but I couldn't get them to work in the last five minutes and had to take them out again. Arrow keys + mouse is not the best combination obviously and I really wanted to have WASD controls in the game, but there were always more important things until the time was gone... well, some of the things probably weren't that important, but drawing every single star manually on the background image somehow felt like a good idea in the first half hour of the event...

There actually is a kind of score system in the game: The eye drone floating above you announces the most successful officer from time to time, so you can at least keep track of how many cases you solved without dying in one playthrough. But that's a very basic score system and an online score board with custom names like you did for your game would be much cooler of course.

The intro is actually a shorter version of a longer track I did first, but there were problems with sudden volume changes on the recording. I tried to do it again but for some reason stopped after a short time. This had the perfect length for an intro track, so I just made it the intro (no time to do another one anyway). The whole soundtrack thing was a very last-minute action and I'm no musicer composer in any way, so I didn't see any praise for the music coming at all, that's a pleasant surprise! :D

Space Police Simulator Platinum by Future Labs Unlimited 2020-10-09T00:32:46Z

@no-nate-november @neragoth @indiedevdan @jegus9 @blobo @abrds Thank you so much for your nice comments, I really appreciate it! :)

Space Police Simulator Platinum by Future Labs Unlimited 2020-10-27T11:27:16Z

Many thanks to everyone for playing and commenting! :)

@coleslaughter The game is meant to be a bit chaotic and hectic, but I guess the problem is that it immediately starts this way and people are already trying to kill you while you're still trying to figure out what you're supposed to do. I didn't have much time for balancing, so this is definitely a problem. I'm a bit shocked about the CPU usage problem, didn't mean to crash any live streams! :D I can't reproduce it yet on my computer, but I'll keep looking into it.

Looper - The Last Mission by Coding4rtist 2020-10-05T21:23:12Z

Really addictive gameplay and great visuals, just seriously impressing! That's definitely a game I'll play again from time to time.

To provide some hopefully constructive feedback: The one thing I missed was some sort of death animation. You're thrown out of the game very suddenly in case of a hit, sometimes without knowing what it was exactly that hit you. And the short introduction sequence with dialogs at the start of each attempt got a bit annoying as I just wanted to get back to the gameplay and try to beat the score. But in the context of the Ludum dare event that's just nitpicking of course, congratulations on getting this done in 48 hours!

Looper - The Last Mission by Coding4rtist 2020-10-05T23:08:36Z

Sorry for triggering you, I feel your pain. :D

The introduction is no big issue of course, and it's indeed not that much dialog you have to skip after the first run. It's actually a compliment for the game that I always want to start over so quickly. ;)

Monkey See by spikedog 2020-10-05T11:31:14Z

The copycat idea is great! Personally I'd like a mode with less or no monsters at all, as the monsters are now the much bigger threat than the copycats and kill me & the copycats all of the time before many copycats can spawn. The copycats are the far more interesting enemies and what the game is all about, so in my opinion they should be the main threat. Or maybe I'm just bad at killing monsters. ;)

Anyway, I'd really like to play an enhanced version of this. It's a great concept and already fun to play!

LD49 — Unstable

Jingoku by Skyeward 2021-10-06T23:15:21Z

I can only repeat what many others have already said, everything about this is awesome! What fascinates me the most about it is that it's somehow calming and thrilling at the same time. And the hat game is hilariously funny - that's a "scream at the screen" kind of challenge. :D Never managed to place the damn hat a single time, but I will keep trying! ;)

Chevalchemy: A Hoof of Concept by xlambein 2021-10-07T23:07:52Z

Well, that's what I call a brilliant idea. :D Had a lot of fun with the game! Sometimes an ingredient got stuck in the air when I threw it too fast, but apart from that the physics system worked really well and all the challenges were fun to solve.

Karawan by Rongo Matane 2021-10-12T05:43:56Z

This game is fantastic, absolutely enjoyed it! The two-tile forest on the first map seemed very hard to get through first, but it was very satisfying to finally find a way around it with the help of some bridge building and water disappearing spells. Played through all three scenarios and had a lot of fun. This could easily be published as a full game with more scenarios. Great achievement, congratulations! :)

I encountered one small bug: One time I managed to somehow move some farmers on the same tile as my caravan leader and were not able to continue moving the caravan afterwards.

One other minor issue: In my opinion the auto-harvesting enhancement should be enabled from the start, as manually assigning workers to tiles feels a little bit tedious and does not add anything valuable to the gameplay. You should always be able to reassign workers, of course.

Vintage SPACE Restaurant with AI by DGSpitzer 2021-10-15T23:58:44Z

This was a lot of fun, and it's looking great as well! Loved how there were more and more gameplay elements added throughout the game and would've liked to play even more levels at the end. Great entry! :)

Project S.L.I.M.E. by Dioinecail 2021-10-08T12:20:39Z

Like the idea, fun to play as well. I have resorted to the same strategy as others here and spawned all units at one place to have them all receive the buffs, this way it was a bit too easy to make it to the end. Maybe there should be a rule that prevents you from placing your units on the same spot or some other element that weakens the effect of this strategy. Also it would have been nice to zoom in and take a closer look at the nice monsters as in the start screen! :)

You Can Not Start This Game by PartTimeIndie 2021-10-06T11:53:48Z

A very fun entry, it's like a crossover between a bug fixing session and an audio book. :D Love the hand-made menu interface, great idea and well executed! The game crashed when trying to close itself, but considering the theme it was a perfect fit of course and more of a feature than a bug. ;)

Office Novice by HermesEs 2021-10-05T09:21:49Z

This is spectacular! Wasn't prepared for heavy metal hell to suddenly break loose. :D I especially love how someone's always casually crashing through the window in the final "You're fired" scene.

Very polished and funny, congratulations! :)

Mint by Préda 2021-10-06T00:07:00Z

I immediately wanted to play this as I saw the screenshots, and I wasn't disappointed! This game captures the "alone in space" mood really well, and I wasn't expecting the nice zero gravity movement. There isn't much gameplay in the traditional sense, and maybe plugging in cables or fixing some wires would have been nice to feel more like doing actual repairs, but in terms of atmosphere it's a great experience. I didn't completely get the twist ending though (spoiler alert!): If she's the only one missing for so many years, where did everyone else on the ship go? Or if they're still there, why is the rest of the crew not considered missing? Or has the ship been cloned in some way and the other ones have arrived safely all those years ago? Or maybe the alien is not as trustworthy as it seems and told her a made-up story for some unknown sinister reason!

Devil's Sitter by VPhyre 2021-10-11T11:28:31Z

Fun game, especially on the last day when things get really hectic. The chairs drove me crazy, but I guess it was meant to be that way. :D

Orbitris by BOOtak 2021-10-08T11:43:23Z

I'm really bad at this, my biggest success was finally managing to clear a single line. :D Great idea though, haven't seen any tetris game like this before.

Ludens Fortuna by deniskazantsev 2021-10-19T23:04:09Z

This is super cool! I never played a card game like this, feels like you invented a new Solitaire. :D The rules work really well and it's very addictive and fun to figure out how many (and which) cards to play before ending the turn. It's also definitely not too easy for me, didn't manage to win it yet. Have nothing negative to say about it, awesome entry! :)

Vomit Up the World by ItsHornUnicorn 2021-10-15T23:22:06Z

Well, after playing this, I absolutely appreciate not having to roll around all the time in real life. :D

Toad Towers by LucaVazz 2021-10-19T23:30:46Z

Great idea and fun to play as well! The audio was stuttering sometimes, but apart from that it's working really well (and the tower looks great, frogs too of course :)). I got stuck in level 4 though as I didn't manage to stop the tornado. Are there any cards I missed? There were cards against snakenadoes, but that's a totally diffferent kind of catastrophe obviously! :D I guess there has to be something you an do against tornadoes but nothing I tried worked so far.

Magmanimal Island by Battlerager 2021-10-05T10:55:26Z

@all Many thanks for your feedback! :)

@Anonymous: You can play the game in fullscreen mode by clicking the blue button in the lower right corner. The UI doesn't work that well with the small embedded itch.io viewport (which can't be enlarged any further apparently), so it's recommended to either press the fullscreen button or play the downloadable Windows version.

Magmanimal Island by Battlerager 2021-10-05T11:01:52Z

@Biku: Have you tried the blue fullscreen button? That should maximize the game properly. There was another fullscreen button before placed by itch.io which should be gone now. Sorry for the confusion! :)

The volcano wants everybody to be happy, so it's becoming more and more unstable while large parts of the population are unhappy. It can only be soothed by sacrifing someone or by getting a "+ Volcano stability" effect in a request event.

Magmanimal Island by Battlerager 2021-10-05T15:16:34Z

@Biku Strange, maybe it depends on the browser? Happy you enjoyed the game despite the UI probably getting in the way half of the time. :D

@fromthechasm The delay cards are quite rare and you don't have any in your starting deck. There's a good chance you'll get some when more people enter the island and you receive new cards. Thanks for playing! :)

Magmanimal Island by Battlerager 2021-10-10T16:46:35Z

Thanks to everyone for playing and commenting! :)

@lucas-thomaz You don't have to click a button but to drag a card (either accept, decline or delay) into the card slot that should be shown at the bottom of the menu. If the slot is hidden by another element you are probably playing at a low resolution. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to properly adjust our GUI to different resolutions, so it's recommended to play in fullscreen mode at the highest resolution possible.

Magmanimal Island by Battlerager 2021-10-17T14:06:57Z

Many thanks for playing and commenting to all of you! :)

@ryjcio The game doesn't work that well in the small itch.io viewport. You can enter fullscreen mode by clicking the blue button in the lower right corner (or by downloading the Windows version).

Into the Uncertain Abyss by Arthur Mairs 2021-10-05T10:07:08Z

This has a great action RPG feel to it (and some of the most dangerous rats I've ever encountered in a game) and surprisingly rich content. I think the most important thing to improve would be the controls, especially when picking up stuff and in combat. It was quite hard to figure out the right moment to push the attack key in order to not be hit by the enemy. For single enemies it mostly worked out well and I got the key in the cavern, but the bandits on the road were too much for me.

The Niland Incident by bflatinteractive 2021-10-12T13:26:22Z

The game has a cool intro and a nice, motivating feeling of progression. I felt that it's a bit too easy to finish though once you died a few times and raised the stats. Maybe it would be more interesting to not permanently raise all stats but to let the player keep only certain bonuses when restarting.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-06T16:22:12Z

Really stunning, especially visually, and also a lot of fun to experiment with gameplay elements like shooting the core. What bothered me a bit was constantly having to press shift all the time to heal myself, I don't think that part added much to the experience and distracted me from the excellent shooter gameplay. Also, wall jumping could have been a bit smoother. But that's just nitpicking af course, considering you made this in 48 hours. All in all, a very impressive effort!

The Un's Stable by Kongo 2021-10-20T11:38:18Z

Really great game in pretty much every aspect! It gets a bit repetitive after a few dozen days, so more gameplay elements, goals or new kinds of challenges on later days would be great improvements if you want to keep working on the game. But that's just nitpicking in the context of this game jam of course. Great work!

Save the Reactor by Tvorojok 2021-10-08T11:08:14Z

This has to be the most stressful game of the jam. :D Didn't save the reactor yet, but enjoyed it a lot. Excellent graphics!

Wobbly Penguins by bqq 2021-10-16T13:03:34Z

This is the first Ludum Dare game that actually scared me! The warning on the title screen already gave me a feeling that something unusual might happen, but I certainly didn't expect THAT. :D Great entry!

Riot City by metalboyrick 2021-10-07T12:40:14Z

Great music, had to spend some time on the intro screen until the game started itself. :D Had fun figuring out the game mechanics as well, though the rioting people were much too strong for me on level 3. Maybe my "Spend all money for soldiers" approach was a bit too aggressive!

Super Misfire or: One Gun To Shoot Them All by ivysly 2021-10-05T23:14:45Z

Really fun and addictive gameplay! The core idea of constantly switching weapons works very well. Love those situations where you're stuck in a corner with two big red guys chasing you and two of your weapons are a banana peel and a confetti cannon. And of course, half of the time I was running away from my own traitorous bees. :D Have nothing negative to say about it, had just a lot of fun with the game! :)
