LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Permafrost Pirouette by Junber 2020-10-05T23:44:39Z

Actually brilliant. Really fun to just bounce around and hit things - yes I played with mouse. Unfortunately the game crashed for me right after I was promised the "Real Deal". While the dialog was funny I feel there should have been less of it and more time to experiment. This could make a really fun multiplayer game. Overall great job!

Village by akai_0okami 2020-10-21T23:16:01Z

Cute retro style that kind of gave me EarthBound vibes. I really like how it's just a simple game where you solve a few puzzles; it feels complete. The puzzles have nice variety too. I don't know how many colors that is but I wonder if you could tighten up the palette? Also the time/looping aspect didn't seem to affect gameplay much but I'm glad it was there for the theme. Great game!

break; by SelfTitled 2020-10-06T23:25:27Z

Superb puzzle design. The platforming is pretty satisfying but wall collision interfered with jumping. The graphics are nice and clear, and together with the music form a coherent tech-y theme. My only gripe is how long it took to understand the controls. I really appreciate adding controller support. Great job!

Hasteus by exilegl 2020-10-20T22:27:54Z

Innovative idea. My wrist disagrees with fast clicking games but props for the cute sprites, the nice music and using libGDX which is one of my favorites. Congrats!

Cascade by Joe Cowman 2020-10-08T00:37:37Z

Alright this puzzle is actually genius. I really need a replay level button though. I kept botching level 3 and had to replay the whole game. I think placing 4-high blocks might be bugged, as if it has to fit pixel perfect before it will highlight. All this game needs is some thinking music and blip sound effects. Very nice!

Liftman by gamechoy 2020-10-10T17:56:59Z

Surreal is a good descriptor. I like the weird character designs. A couple of the puzzles I still don't get but the game was beatable for me. Nice game!

Loop Trap by Knatt 2020-10-23T23:44:11Z

Nice game. Fun, funny and complete. UI can be polished but it's good for compo. I'm such a noob I wish the ball was smaller. Congrats!

Multitasking by FelixMcFelix 2020-10-20T22:12:16Z

I love everything about this. The desert-y music and mood, the paper-y sprites. It made me think of Dry Dry Desert. The levels spinning away is funny and the puzzles are succinct. I'd like to see an in-game tutorial and more levels but other than that congrats on the simple and stylistic puzzle game!

Arcternal by superjai 2020-10-22T20:58:22Z

So cool. Very nice graphics. I like the ominous moon and how you can see the other crystals in the background. Enemies look cool but sometimes it's hard to tell apart the particles from what you have to shoot. The UI is also very good. For gameplay I wanted to run and gun around the loop but mostly had to run back and forth from the nearest fairies to have enough ammo. Great and innovative game! Congrats.

CALVARYVM by manusaiz 2020-10-08T23:42:56Z

That is one big file but I forgot how nice Unreal looks. The level was short enough that replaying it did not feel like a chore, which is good. I like how it fits the theme too but it wasn't obvious at first. Nice job.

CALVARYVM by manusaiz 2020-10-08T23:47:23Z

@manusaiz OK spoilers removed

Retrospective by Cole and Jordan Studios 2020-10-25T20:30:54Z

Really cool atmosphere. The ending music was pretty exciting so I went to check if anyone had new dialogue but no. I think you could add that for us explorers or just return to main menu. The blue text is kind of hard to read against the blue world. You should reward players who go out of their way to break all the boxes, maybe with an easter egg? Congrats on the cool game.

La boucle du Dongeon by CryVeck 2020-10-20T00:20:32Z

Cool game, that's really good for just Java. Pixel art looks good. It took way too long to figure out you can lift things at a distance but once I got that the puzzles were very nice. The music fit the mood, I liked it but the loop was a little short. The ending was funny and on theme. All this game needs is a better tutorial. Congrats!

Endless Assault by Mau Zer 2020-10-08T22:51:13Z

Nice tower defense. The UI is really easy to understand, I like it. The day-night cycle is neat but I think the towers should be as bright as the main base. The map design basically makes you build outward in all directions equally, so that could be made more interesting. The music is really good but is too peaceful for the night battles. Overall it's a very well-made game, congrats!

Springy's Adventure by TheCrittersCove 2020-10-23T23:56:12Z

Cute game with really nice visuals. Funny ending. The only hiccup was finding how to get to the second area (I tried running to the right off-screen). I like how you can't lose, it's very casual. Congrats!

Loop around in a cycle by fraanns 2020-10-22T21:12:25Z

Genius idea. It was really funny waddling to try to go in a straight line. Needs a better way to aim the rebound shot, maybe a way to push it around the circle? Great game.

Project Rewind by Roka Josh 2020-10-09T20:13:07Z

Wow! 8 rescued with 0:41:51 remaining! That was super atmospheric and fun to figure out. At the end I thought I had it when I realized, always take the stairs... And it looks like there's multiple solutions. Great job!

Neverending partyween by imod 2020-10-12T16:58:07Z

Beautiful art. So cute, I love the character designs. The music is charming but I wish there were more sound effects. The English translations could use some work but they did convey the humor and it was good enough to solve the puzzles. It was fun running around this halloween village. Great job!

Crypted by KallThar 2020-10-24T23:08:14Z

Nice game. It's really atmospheric thanks to the voice acting, the music, the general presentation. I like how the shadows reveal paths in a corridor.

Difficulty settings are a nice touch but should be selected before playing, not hidden in Options. The die-to-restart transition could be faster and Ancient Egyptian decoration would add even more to the mood.

It was fun! Good luck bringing your future UE4 file sizes down. *edit: I know how it is because some of my first games were in unreal

Crypted by KallThar 2020-10-25T15:28:16Z

@kallthar My only advice besides "google it" is to switch to Godot because that's what I did :) happy graverobbing.

The Fate Of The Samurai by Kylene 2020-10-21T17:13:43Z

Really great storytelling. If I had to improve one thing it would be the level backgrounds. Are they apartment buildings? A little more gameplay, a little music and the right font would make this a perfect short story game. Congrats!

Cyclotroid by Korteh 2020-10-18T13:28:33Z

Really cool metroid-y atmosphere. Gameplay needs some polish like enemies take too long to kill given they respawn and are easy to run past. More sound effects like footsteps could add a missing "weightiness". Mostly I just want a crosshair. However it's a really novel and pretty game, with cute enemies and overall very good for a jam game. Congrats!

Raceabout by joll05 2020-10-12T15:51:51Z

Pretty fun little game. The interface is very nice. I like the details like choosing which color car you can use, the engaging title screen and having an icon for your game. The music is really fun too but gets annoying after a bit because the loop is so short. Very nice game!

Escape From Rotting Town by Jonathan Lorenz 2020-10-10T17:38:09Z

Nice work putting those assets together to create a dark mood. Low-poly is the best. It was fun punching cultists and sometimes they punched each other, which was funny but probably a bug. Congrats and good luck on future scoping!

Welcome To MILTON KEYNES by Lyje 2020-10-24T15:56:47Z

Hilarious psychological thriller. I found the gameplay addicting but in the end only got to a score of 13-14. Great compo game!

Ay2 by Mustiman 2020-10-19T23:35:26Z

Funny cute but hard because the turning is so fast. Nice little game!

The Claimants of Death by SirMichel 2020-10-21T00:16:31Z

Really good story and voice acting. The mood was really epic, kind of reminds me of Gauntlet or Dark Souls. Level design was pretty good what with shortcuts and all, but some parts didn't make sense like dead-ends full of enemies that could just be ignored. The spinning mechanic is really cool but stamina regens too slowly so I ran by most enemies. The character moves faster on diagonals, this can be fixed pretty simply by normalizing but you'll have to look it up. Great job and congratulations!

A Monster Hunter Story by Aljon 2020-10-10T16:31:01Z

This was just awesome. Really solid time travel story with fun mechanics. I like the auto-fire it keeps the focus on kiting, aggroing and tanking hits. Also the sprites are adorable. The lesson is good: don't make a time travel pact with a mysterious hooded figure. The end makes me wonder if I missed a secret ending? Congrats!

Low Level Operations by Tomssuli 2020-10-06T21:42:29Z

That's a clever take on the theme. I always like games where you play as only a small part of something larger. You already know the placeholder assets could use some work but the minimalist sprites could be pretty cool, I just would like to be able to zoom in. Your AI so far is pretty much on par with real Command & Conquer so congrats. Nice job for the time you had!

Couples Delight by KingOfNova 2020-10-05T22:56:41Z

Wow! Excellent setup for a cute little story. The humor got me attached to the characters. The music was really smooth and so was the credits sequence. At some point Robin disappeared and didn't come back, not sure if I ran the wrong executable or it's a bug. Very nice game!

Feed the Bear by Emperor Eagle 2020-10-11T02:47:00Z

Good job it looks really cute. You did well keeping the scope small and making it fit the theme. One thing though, when I played the honeypots were invisible but I still played until I got 11. Then I re-opened the game and all the sprites were invisible. So there's some kind of bug. Anyway congrats!

Harvest Minute by Malai 2020-10-25T15:57:08Z

Nice game, I like your pixel style. Is your palette from lospec? Controller support is great to see. I got 19 parsnips having wasted a day not watering the grown parsnips. What's fun is there are lots of ways to optimize your strategy. Good for you using C++ / your own engine. Congrats!

Wild Loop by Cerebral Bore 2020-10-10T16:51:17Z

Great art, fitting music, and right on theme. It took awhile to find out how to end the loop and I wish space bar was used to continue dialogue. Nice game!

Dead Hand by Kszaku 2020-10-10T19:31:23Z

Very cool, I got the happy ending. The terminal is really immersive and it felt like I was actually in charge of retaliatory strike software running on a PC from the 20th century. The game should have been way shorter though. A terminal with colored words would add beauty and readability to the game as well. Great job!

Kessler by Vanea 2020-10-05T22:36:14Z

Great! I'm addicted. Actually the gameplay is challenging and has potential to be very rewarding. However I need a score feature because it's hard to gauge progress. I don't think I cleared zone one - maybe more missiles or a faster shield would help? The music & graphics give me XCOM/80s/90s sci-fi vibes. Nice job!

3 Minutes by PeaNud 2020-10-06T00:36:49Z

Nice puzzles. I liked looking out the window at outer space flying by. It was hard to remember multiple codes so I had to write them down. Also, I got stuck in a door once and the ending was just an empty skybox for me (web version). It was fun to catch a few references and I really enjoyed the overall concept. Well done!

Spooky Mansion by philipprapp95 2020-10-19T20:27:02Z

Really great game. The ghost looks cool and the lighting and font set a spooky mood. The mood is good but sorely needs sound to be amazing. Puzzles were fun and physics a bit janky which could be reduced by disabling collision on picked up items. I especially liked the laser puzzle. One last thing, I wish you could go through the door at the end even if it just fades to black. Very nice game! Congrats.

Escape-loop by Chukwuebuka_racer 2020-10-08T00:19:53Z

Neat, really funky music. I think the PC version is unavailable? I couldn't see checkpoints/score on the web version. Congrats!

Jerry.IsDead by Natw 2020-10-10T15:57:05Z

I think there's a bug? I tried to move right then jump over the first obstacle. It worked but only the first time. Then I couldn't progress because the robot just moves forward, ignoring the commands.

This looks like it would be really fun. The graphic design is phenomenal and I love the little Dio-like droid. Congrats to everyone!

Subject to Change by boxcar012 2020-10-22T01:10:07Z

Nice game. Really captured the science lab feel with the decontamination air locks and keycards. The puzzles are pretty good too. The blue key card was invisible until I picked it up by accident. I eventually gave up because I got stuck at the reactor.

You should add 3-5 screenshots and put more description on the ldjam page. You've got a neat game and a little more presentation will get you more ratings next time.

Congrats!

Devoured by St1ckY 2020-10-19T21:52:40Z

Amazing atmosphere. I was really captivated by the sound and wanted to see where the story was going. Unfortunately the alternate ending was really long and boring to get to though I appreciate the "loop" theme. Then the text disappeared when I was only half-done reading it.

Here's the ending I'd like to see. You wake up after the final safe and there's a flashlight on the table. This time, you are immune to the darkness and can break your routine. When you find the keys, you collect them instead of being rewound to the house. Then you take them to open the cabinet without nearly as much walking.

Overall very nice game. Congrats!

Escape The Loop by IAAndrei 2020-10-09T21:42:47Z

I spent some time on this. Some of the puzzles are easy, some are unfair. Like the fake #4, why would you only add 1 if it was just to divide by the sum and get 1 no matter what? Why wouldn't you try to add the whole binary numbers?

It's really awesome to see math puzzles but I feel the player needs more feedback to know if they're on the right track. For example, #5 could result in an integer so the player knows they didn't make a mistake.

Congrats on the thoughtful puzzle game! It was fun to try these out.

Glitch Lab by Sharked 2020-10-12T16:24:47Z

Very good. I'm rating it on the jam version to be fair. Cute graphics, especially the robot. The mechanics are unique and fun to learn. My biggest gripe was the difficulty and I feel the character is too slippery. The post-jam version did much better with the difficulty curve but could still use checkpoints. Nice entry!

⛧ Hellycoaster ⛧ by TennoTako 2020-10-10T21:58:31Z

Innovative and fun. Nice job setting the hellish mood. The title is hilarious. I played to 25k points before realizing you could zoom out. The best part was getting the roller coaster to go super fast. I almost made a roller-coaster game myself because, well, Mr. Bones' Wild Ride. Good job!

Get Over Yourself by SpawnCampGames 2020-10-10T18:26:14Z

Really good puzzle design and pretty colors. Others have already said it starts too hard. I agree but it wouldn't bother me that much if there weren't other games to rate; the challenge is good. Fine idea to use donuts for the loop theme. Overall excellent game!

@tomssuli Thanks, the only 2 endings are decided by dialogue choice. But if you manage to survive dancing indefinitely then you have my respect.

@manusaiz Thanks yeah synchro can get complicated.

@chukwuebuka-racer @selftitled @eugenik Thanks for playing and the feedback!

@shimali Thank you for playing and I'm glad you noticed that. The sound effects were kind of an after-thought and more in line with the pixel style than the actual mood.

@gamechoy Thanks! Yes I wanted the beats to align but in the end I had to design around that. Maybe next rhythm game I'll try a beat detector library or making my own music.

Loopshoots by Stipple3D by stipple3D 2020-10-06T00:03:20Z

The Loop-Shot mechanics look really neat, I played until about 500 points. Sometimes based on where the balls landed it was impossible to save all of them. I feel the game link should be "Web" rather than "Source Code" to clarify it's the game. The font and color scheme make the game look really slick. Good job and good luck with devtober!

Are you going to reupload it?

Crows of Wraeth by Roikku 2020-10-08T00:11:43Z

Bird mages in dark forests is really really cool.

Some feedback: Moving around kind of made my eyes hurt. I think this could be mitigated by having more tiles on the screen. IMO 5 elements is overly complicated when fire-water-earth would work just as well. The tree monster changed colors too fast and I feel like turning on the spot is a must.

The visuals overall set a great mood for exploring. Congrats!

Plague Friend's Deathly Journey by sakura_magika 2020-10-23T03:28:19Z

I love this game so much. It's cute and funny and the art is carefree and stylish. I will say though that I couldn't break the loop. I think I tried all possible logic, dunno if it was a bug. The post-jam version looks awesome, especially with music but I couldn't rate that version.

Really great first game. Next time post more comments on other games so you can get the ratings you deserve.

Congrats!
