LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Chanterune by Kerdelos 2024-10-12T08:58:10Z

Incredible audio- and artwork here with surprisingly much content! It's like a mix of Ori and One Hand Clapping. Was a bit confused at the start what to actually do and I got stuck in the dark passages at some points. Feels like a really high quality submission and way above the standard here!

Colony Clash by stormburpee 2024-10-10T12:16:16Z

Really fun Super Auto Pets style game! The sound effects are 10/10 and a lot of content for 1 dev. Really enjoyed playing it and did not encounter any bugs (besides the odd screen ration when playing in Browser).

Forest Tower Defense by shared 2024-10-10T08:30:13Z

Cute little tower defense game! Enjoyed playing it and don't have anything major to complain about :) Bit of music would have helped the mood and hotkeys for the 2 towers are always nice to have in a TD game. Well done overall!

Squabble Snooker by bzoo345 2024-10-10T14:59:17Z

Fun little challange game! I got a whopping score of 3! Wasn't sure what I expected when I started the game, but it was an interesting (skill-) surprise :D I am too much of a noob for this, but looks good!

Bacteria Empower by malibaturhan 2024-10-10T13:45:45Z

Very...unusual game. I think I glitched it while playing and made unlimited bacteria. It's an interesting concept tho :) For the developement time and 1 person pretty good!

Animal Golfing by Andreadbx 2024-10-08T13:13:38Z

Really impressive amount of content and it looks really polished overall! Definitely one of the best games I have seen this year.

Just the camera is a bit of a mess sometimes ;)

Foxy Forage by Beelzeboss 2024-10-08T13:27:48Z

Really cute puzzle game! I think this needs some time to master as a player, but the entire vibe is so welcoming that you definitely stick around for a bit. One of the best games I have seen this jam so far :)

Aggrolotls by Zomk 2024-10-12T08:41:40Z

This is one of the most fun games I played this GameJam! An axolotl themed bullet hell is definitely not something I expected to see today :D Sound effects are great, art is great, didn't encounter any bugs. Had a great experience overall! I got to lvl 24.

Mini Monster Market by mira 2024-10-10T13:02:29Z

Very fun and polished feeling memory / managing game! With all those creatures and assets I see why you guys have 5 pixelartists ;)

Really nothing to complain and no bugs encountered. This does feel like an actual game demo!

Dino Island Safari by Skleembof 2024-10-10T08:47:26Z

This is such a silly and fun-to-play game, I love it! Ihe narration really made the game special compared to all the other shooters I have played here ;) Could be a bit louder compared to the music sometimes.

Maybe the dinosaurs are quite big for "tiny creatures", but it's a really well done game overall!

Meep Mayhem by Kristian Kurktchiev 2024-10-10T14:09:46Z

Insane amount of depth for a GameJam game! As someone who is a big fan of auto battlers and also Slay the Spire, this truly makes me happy.

Did not encounter any bugs, even with the complex systems. Art does its job and is rather cute. This is definitely my new favourite game this competition!

Incandescent by Ray Himmel 2024-10-12T09:06:50Z

Looks very pretty and the music sounds great. The gameplay was a bit confusing, it didn't feel like the input actually corresponds to the music. I do see the potential of the game in the future tho!

Corgis Heaven by Astoeth 2024-10-08T13:03:28Z

Cute artstyle and overall a really nice vibe :) Needs a little more explanation how to play the game.

Snail Trivia Race by GameDevTraum 2024-10-24T18:13:36Z

Cute little snaily game! The range of topics is definitely solid and the difficulty is quite balanced. No bugs, no issues and it fullfilled exactly what I expected :)

Planet Maxim by danielkozlov 2024-10-10T12:50:33Z

Didn't manage to load the intro sequence that the other people seem to enjoy, but the game itself was very creative anyways! Haven't seen this kind of game before. The overall theme is hilarious and I did enjoy playing as planet Maxim ;)

A cooldown timer would be a good addition.

Pom Planet by LittleBlackDog 2024-10-12T09:40:35Z

The amount of content and polish for a GameJam game is insane! It looks incredible, the sound is great, I did not encounter any bugs and the levels feel like they have been tested and planned carefully.

Overall maybe THE best game I played this jam, a bit more levels and this could count as a fully fledged game. This definitely is a contender for the nr. 1 spot this jam!

Camouflage Garage by Hammy0212 2024-10-10T11:53:42Z

Looks great, sounds great and the movement system is fun too! Feels overall really polished for a Game Jam game.

Also happy to see a fellow Unreal game over here, that's rather rare :)

Tiny Brigades by nataku92 2024-10-10T08:38:31Z

Took a few tries but managed to beat it after a while.

The graphics are really cute, so is the soundtrack. I was a bit confused what exactly to do at the beginning and the overall layout of the game elements is a bit convoluted.

But a nice game overall, I enjoyed it!

ConquerAnts by Pierre-Marie 2024-10-10T12:35:18Z

You can really see the depth that went into all the systems. I can imagine that the "skill ceiling" is pretty high here. The mix of the 2 very different parts of the game is also definitely interesting.

What has to be improved for sure is the UI. At the moment it is very convoluted and you can barely see what is going on, since everything is layered with text and buttons, which made it very confusing to know what's going on. I do definitely see the potential tho, so keep up the work!

SHIPWHACKED by deadjolly 2024-10-10T14:29:15Z

Fun little slapping game ;) It's a bit hard to effectively hit the helicopters from that perspective, but I had a fun time overall!

Glimbo's Defense by AtlasFlame 2024-10-10T11:29:45Z

It's a tower defense game and does its job ;) + no bugs, works without issues + HOTKEYS for the towers, thank you for that! Many forget about those

Solid game overall!

davids vs. GOLIATHS by Fernofai 2024-10-10T18:41:15Z

@brain-siege-gameworks Thanks for playing our game! This is a known bug that we weren't able to fix in time sadly. Sometimes enemies struggle a bit finding the right attack target.

@druven Also thanks to you for the feedback! The audio distance attenuation could indeed need some more tuning, you are definitely correct there :)

Slug Sprooch by Mael Rios 2024-10-10T09:14:21Z

This is genuinely one of the best GameJame games that I have ever played. The art is super cute and the entire game coherent theme-wise! I had no bugs at all, the gameplay was super fun and I was actually invested in my little creatures :)

Music was fun too, a seemsless loop would have been a bit better ;) Keep up the good work, this is a prime example of a game jam game!

Slug Sprooch by Mael Rios 2024-10-27T09:52:28Z

Coming back after seeing the results. And well, I would have absolutely seen Slug Sprooch in the top 50 at least. Not really sure why you guys were ranked so relatively low, but let me tell you, your game is awesome and one of my favourites this jam as I wrote before!

Spider-Meow by FunnyPumpkin 2024-10-10T08:00:07Z

Incredibly cute game!

The art is really well done, both the backgrounds and characters. Animations looks really clean as well! Also loved the audio of the spider cats. Overall I had a great time and this might be my favourite game jam game this competition so far :)

To give something "constructive": You are probably well aware of that, but the level design elements (floors etc.) could be adjusted more visually to match the rest of the graphics. Otherwise absolutely nothing to complain about!

The Day They Got Hungy by Neon Kuroasa 2024-10-10T12:06:08Z

Pretty hard Vampire Survivor-ish kind of game. Bit of a tutorial would have been helpful :)

Sound is great, graphics look good too!

Luminance by GoldenLoser 2024-10-08T13:20:28Z

I think the game has potential, the controls and hitboxes are bit of a hassle tho which made it hard to play. I believe with a bit more polishing this could be a solid game :)

Tripping Hazard by Pigeonescu 2024-10-10T08:22:47Z

Very very interesting and unusual game. Love the humor of it! Got really laggy tho pretty quickly tho which made it not possible to finish entirely for me. Something might be wrong with the little shrimps.

I do appreciate the idea nonetheless!

Bugicide by Escias 2024-10-08T09:55:44Z

Pretty fun game which you can play definitely more than just once! The water is a little overpowered tho compared to the other 2 skills ;) Overall I enjoyed it!

antgamescore.JPG

TinyWar by Iaroslavik 2024-10-10T11:22:09Z

Incredible work in the art department especially! Gameplay was a bit confusing at the start even with the explanations, but I somewhat figured it out. Was an enjoyable experience overall!

Green Shell by Kekwu 2024-10-10T13:36:44Z

Fun little adventure games and the cutscenes are great! As others already said, the controls can be a bit odd and sometimes I was a little lost, but I saw that you already did quite a bit to explain what to do. Has potential!

Tiny Spider's Adventure!!! by Rhysss 2024-10-10T09:58:31Z

Really fun movement system that works surprisingly well for the fight aspects! Reminds me a bit of the Ori games. The spider is really cute and the overall art and animation very pleasant to look at. I got lost a bit from time to time since the path to take isn't that clear.

Overall it's a really good and enjoyable game!

Forest Guardians by Thomas Dougans 2024-10-10T12:41:59Z

Really like the vibe of the game. Looks and sounds great! Wasn't really sure what exactly to do tho and my lights got eaten by snakes. Also the move key and the camera rotation should better not be on the same button ;)

Enjoyed it tho!

LD57 — Depths

Cricetus Crevice by MagnesiumNinja 2025-04-11T09:19:59Z

Really innovative controls, the game is challenging but doable.

The art is really cute and the sound effects are also on point. Had some issues with the controls when moving horizontally where my muscle memory messed up using S for extending the rope and made it a little frustrating, but nothing major!

Great game overall!

Kika's Eggsplosive Descent by kazuo256 2025-04-13T10:19:00Z

Feels really polished! The art is great, sound effects on point, controls feel good, well done!

It's definitely harder than I originally anticipated and it took a few tries to figure out what I am actually supposed to do :)

Moldwasher by Rubel_NMB 2025-04-11T12:36:25Z

The mold growing mechanic is really satisfying in some way. The graphics are well done and the sfx sound good too!

It's not too much on theme, that's true, but still a really cool game :)

Bowlding by ecmjohnson 2025-04-11T14:24:10Z

Very...interesting game for sure. The first level was ironically by far the hardest and it's pretty damn hard to predict where the ball will go. I really like the idea tho and would like to see something like that as a flushed out full game some day.

Revenge of the Ocean by tiar 2025-04-11T12:52:24Z

Simple but well working bullet hell game :) The octopus is really cute and everything worked as expected. For 11 hours and 1 person pretty good!

Depth of field by sver 2025-04-08T09:16:14Z

Really good realization of the concept. I expected that someone would make a depth of vision game in the jam and this one really delivered on the theme :)

Animations are cute, audio also good.

I found the controls to be a bit finnicky and sometimes frustrating, specifically due to the instant momentum direction change in air and the lack of WASD movement. I am usually not a platformer-player tho. Font was a bit hard to read as well.

But found no bugs and I appreciate the idea :)

Dig Digger by Transkuja 2025-04-09T13:25:41Z

This is one of the best game jam games I have ever played. The sheer amount of polish is insane! The animations, art, controls, sound and music are all completely on point, I found no bugs and there are so many small details that make this pretty much a game that could be released as a full small indie title with some more levels.

If this isn't a contender for the Nr. 1 spot, then I don't know what is.

Detector by AlphaBetaSoup 2025-04-12T14:20:24Z

never saw a metal detector game before but now I am asking myself why not :)

Interesting gameplay and concept. I had no issues with the controls, just the sound cues could have been more indicating and be rather a constant beeping that gets faster the closer you are (like a parking sensor), I had some issues checking where exactly I was supposed to dig.

Good work overall!

Copper Soul by Kamuniaft 2025-04-09T13:52:22Z

The atmosphere with the music, story bits and art is great, I was completely sucked into the game and it did feel like an experience, especially with the ending screen.

Won at my first try, maybe I was lucky or it would need some balancing, but anyways this is a great entry!

Mine Goblin by maximevincent 2025-04-08T08:51:19Z

Really fun game that actually made me play more and more. I appreciate the adaptive music and that the sound font matches the graphics :)

Wasn't sure at first if my WASD movements really did anything once dropped, but I guess they do a little. Glitched through the floor occasionally, but that's okay. Great game overall!

Underwatica by MilkWine 2025-04-11T08:53:38Z

hmm, I feel like I have seen this game somewhere before ;)

didn't really know what to do (or if there is much to be done), but I did like the slurping animation and music :)

Temple of Hands by coyotethursday 2025-04-09T13:35:31Z

Very trippy and unique game, definitely haven't seen something like that before :)

I feel like there is some input-lag for the instruments and / or the sound files have a slight bit of silence at the start which makes the notes a bit hard to hit. But for a one person project I am definitely impressed!

Dark Ness by Soul Grinder 2025-04-11T09:01:00Z

Really liked the atmoshpere and sound design of the game, the gameplay was also more interesting than I anticipated :D

Nessi is really cute (mostly, spotted her 2 times) and especially considering you did everything alone, this is a great submission!

Minersweeper by vegasword 2025-04-12T10:48:16Z

Very simple game, but pretty good for a 1-person project. I didn't really understand what exactly to do except for going another way when the beeping comes in, so more explanations would perhaps have been helpful.

Respect to you for coding the thing from scratch instead of using a Game Engine, not many people here would be able to do that!

Cutter of Grass by JonasO 2025-04-18T13:45:01Z

From a purely "atmosphere" / vibe / mood standpoint, this is the best game I have played this jam! The little animations for everything really make a big difference for the feel and the world certainly feels very alive. This does remind me a lot of 2000s PC-games with the music, silliness and colours.

The art style is very cute and radiates good vibes. Sound is great, the controls do feel a bit clunky at times, but it was manageble.

Overall a great game! You should rate some more games if possible, it would be a little sad if this didn't get the chance for a ranking.

Payback Pit by Alem26 2025-04-09T09:57:42Z

@matthewdrake @2009yasha2009 @min-pan @fernofai @bene-labs

We are really happy that you all enjoyed playing our game! As you have noticed, there are a few minor UI and perhaps collision bugs that we weren't able to fix in time, some values don't update when they should. There will always be 1 ore left in your inventory (but it's just an illusion, don't trust it) and the gemstone ui also just updates occasionally ;)

Hope you still have a good time!

@trevor-lentz The enemies do actually drop a ressource! It's the red gemstone points under your money. If you have 10 of them, you can press E onto the (slightly too small) sign next to the pulley and increase the ore-value of your next pull significantly :)

Payback Pit by Alem26 2025-04-09T20:44:25Z

@sam-gorman Thanks for playing and the information!

The mouse sensitivity is good to know, I will add a sensitivity slider for the fixed / updated version coming to itch.io tomorrow.

The lags are unfortunate, it might be because of the lighting method (Lumen) that requires some raytracing capabilities.

Payback Pit by Alem26 2025-04-11T17:54:24Z

@kamuniaft Thank you for playing as well, indeed we were stressed out until almost the last hour before submission :)

About the things you listed:

1. correct, the ores all do basically do the same thing, they just have different selling values and are for visual variation. A few less would have also done the job, that's true, it was a bit of a hassle to change all of them each in some cases when a change was made as well ;)

2. good to know that you had a bit of a difficulty figuring out the places, we hoped that the custom signs would be enough but we'll keep that in mind in the future!

3. yep, the ore selling wasn't supposed to be like that, but we had no time anymore to reprogram the selling feature again and it ended up being an unintended button meshing ""mechanic"" that can be quite annoying I agree

In the future we will try to have less feature creep and rather 1 or 2 core mechanics that we spend our time on! The artists in our time would also really appreciate that ;)

Kind of deep waters by 7uc4s 2025-04-09T14:58:45Z

I don't think I have ever spent as much time playing a game jam game in my life before as on this one. The amount of replayability and depth (no pun intended) due to the random level generation and upgrades is insane!

It's quite difficult as others have stated, but I wouldn't say it's "too hard" just "challenging".

Definitely 5 stars for this one, this is my favourite entry this jam so far!

Hellish Mindscape by Topnaan 2025-04-08T09:40:41Z

Interesting combination of 2D and 3D gameplay that I haven't seen before. The difference between main menu and ingame music is HUGE and completely blasted my ears away ;)

Otherwise simple controls that I had no issues with, the dash seems to be *a little* overpowered.

Good job overall!

You Gnome the Drill! by P3ngui 2025-04-08T09:56:18Z

Fantastic art, animations, controls and sound design! Lots of stuff to collect and everything feels useful.

You have to jump off right when the game starts or you are going to miss the entire dungeon ;)

No Man's Pie by Hannes Börner 2025-04-08T12:22:16Z

I love the custscene and the humor in the game, very unusual and polished for a game jam game in this regard :)

Gameplay is simple but quickly understandable and takes some good amount of skill. Good submission overall!

Drill Baby, Drill by DZXBK 2025-04-08T12:40:49Z

I really like the artworks and especially the crystal follow "animation" is cute! Gameplay is straightforward and simple, but overall it's a good result especially when you did everything alone :)

Sound design is a bit repetitive and simplistic, but I guess that wasn't much of a focus, all good!

DepthBorne by I_POTS 2025-04-12T10:57:54Z

This is by far the best looking game I have seen in this jam! Huge props to the artists! The style reminds me of Badland and a bit of Ori and I love both games :)

The controls are quite tricky and I just ended running from the boss forever and more or less ignored it since I would basically just die whenever I turned around. Overall a really good submission tho!

Cursor Descend by FoxEcho 2025-04-08T09:00:26Z

Very simple but incredibly innovative game! Just the right difficulty for a gamejam I would say. I really appreciate the way you taught the controls while you go. Had no technical issues personally (Firefox).

Theme is also on point. Well done!

DepthOctopus/万章深渊 by baizeQwQ 2025-04-11T14:10:57Z

Thanks for the game! The gameplay in combination with the music did remind me of Geometry Dash quite a bit. The art is great, gameplay feels smooth ad overall fair. Well done!

Ad Light by jtap 2025-04-09T13:43:51Z

As others already said, the art is super cute and the atmosphere is great! The movement feels a little stuttery and I also wasn't able to collect the mollusks behind the kraken, but overall for a 1-person project this is awesome!
