I like this game. If I’m not mistaken, my choices will remain even after my death?

yohadams 2025-04-08 06:57

Very nice game, captivating loop of buy upgrades see whats is deeper, godjob!

mamboman 2025-04-08 06:57

Well done! I like the upgrade possibilities. The sea mine explosions and the style of the enemies are great too!

pythorogus 2025-04-08 07:19

Very cool game. It's nice to have been able to do so much, the RPG aspect makes you want to relaunch. The graphics are cute and clean. The music sets the mood. Also, a good future improvement would be for each level to be a continuation of the other, allowing you to go very deep! Good job!

7uc4s 2025-04-08 09:17

@youzi Thanks! And yes, you get to keep your upgrades and buy new ones after you die :)

510 2025-04-08 10:36

@pythorogus Ty! Yes, we ourselves didn't expect to be able to do so much.

We thought about the level continuation thing, but we were lacking additional tilesets/enemies (that had to be cut off) to have some kind of variation as you go deeper. So, restarting from the surface seemed a bit more refreshing. Also, it made more sense to be able to buy upgrades if you leave the trench =)

soul-grinder 2025-04-08 13:17

A solid jam entry for the theme and also a good fun game to play. The difficulty, the mood and atmosphere was done right. I liked the upgrade system too, made collecting the pearls more purposeful. Good work!

shores 2025-04-08 16:41

It was a nice game play in the background while I was talking to someone in a phonecall. Relaxing and challenging at the same time! Good job, keep em coming!

nsadie 2025-04-08 16:46

I played this with my boys and they really like it! Good gameplay loop! I loved the useless setting in the menu

kristijan 2025-04-08 17:49

Really loved the mood of this game – it has such a chill, dreamy vibe. The graphics totally reminded me of the underwater levels in Super Mario, which gave it a nice nostalgic feel. Great job! 😊

hlebnay-kroshka 2025-04-08 20:20

OWWW so much work, art looks greate and polished. Like it!!!

joey-vrij 2025-04-08 20:24

Such a enjoyable game, I like the controls, it feels very much like you're steering under water. solid loop. Great job!

jnur 2025-04-08 20:26

I was getting really frustrated with the slow acceleration and light turning, until I got through the first level and saw that both can be upgraded  Fun little game! I found trying to avoid the fish a tad too challening, with the water physics and all. Maybe being able to slow or scare them with the light would've been a nice way to combat that?

buckmeister 2025-04-08 20:42

Very solid game, initially i completely missed the bubbles and asked myself how to replenish o2, but after a few deaths, it ended up being pretty addicting! Great job!

2025-04-08 20:43

Had a lot of fun!! Didn't even realize the levels weren't handcrafted until I eventually ran into a pearl I physically couldn't reach, so that probably says something about how good the level gen is! Was a bit difficult to tell how damaged my hull was, though I did enjoy that taking damage didn't necessarily mean you died, just that your air ran out faster. A few intense runs where I took a lot of damage suddenly but I was close to the bottom so it was a race to the end before I ran out of water. Great work all around

p1x3lc0w 2025-04-08 20:45

Nicely done, designing the the game around the difficulty of controlling the sub works pretty well. Great work and thanks for the game!

jim-jagers 2025-04-08 20:54

This might be my favorite game of this Jam, i love how the movement feels the way i was constantly making micro adjustments to my movement as i was avoiding terrain and fish was wonderful and the upgrade system was nicely done, every upgrade felt like it had a use and gave a notable sense of improvement everytime i upgraded it. The graphics and ambience where also well done i liked the atmosphere that was created once i got to the really dark parts of the level.

frywarrior 2025-04-08 21:02

great game, i dont know how, but it seems like every fish knows exactly where i'm going and has a plan to slam right into me to make a chain reaction with a nearby bomb to completely drain my air in the matter of seconds... Anyway love it!

fullbuff 2025-04-08 21:28

@kristijan Haha, I had the "Mario 64" and "Donkey kong country" underwater music stuck in my head on a loop before we finally got our own music working in the game. So glad you enjoyed it!

@jnur Thanks for the comment! I agree, the balance might lean a bit too hardcore.. we’re big fans of tough games. We also made the ship intentionally sluggish at first to make upgrades feel more impactful and to give the retry system more weight. I really like your idea of giving the light another purpose, thank you.

@jim-jagers Man... thanks for that comment, it really warmed my heart! Glad you enjoyed it. We've spent quite a bit of time playtesting and tweaking the upgrades. Personally, I also really liked the darker part of the game and the meaning it gives to the light upgrades.

@franco-kikkas Crazy, right ? I felt the same while playing the game, even-though I know the pattern is fully "random". You would have loved the original fish (before we toned them down), it was a nightmare 😂 The fastest one is actually called fish-furious as reference to the Fast & Furious movie.

510 2025-04-08 21:57

@franco-kikkas Haha! When our music composer tested the game, he told us he was convinced some fishes had "sudden targeted homing attacks". I also had this feeling, but nah... fishes just mind their own business xD

anton-florey 2025-04-08 22:53

lost track of time... well I am at lvl 12 and love it! Best entry I played so far :)

catusfelony 2025-04-09 03:50

Really freakin' hard! I couldn't make it past level 3, unfortunately. Despite everything being out there to kill me, I found it oddly relaxing, I guess that's the power of having the ocean as the central setting. In about five different occasions, a mine showed up in a tight spot in a way which I could not possibly avoid it, I personally don't think that's something that should even happen. Lovely regardless.

7uc4s 2025-04-09 07:26

@anton-florey so cool man, thanks for the comment, glad you liked it :)

@catusfelony Yeah you're right on the level generation, that it's a bit clumsy, especially if coupled with some bad luck on the rng :( thanks for the comment though

alem26 2025-04-09 14:58

I don't think I have ever spent as much time playing a game jam game in my life before as on this one. The amount of replayability and depth (no pun intended) due to the random level generation and upgrades is insane!

It's quite difficult as others have stated, but I wouldn't say it's "too hard" just "challenging".

Definitely 5 stars for this one, this is my favourite entry this jam so far!

sami822 2025-04-09 15:15

Wow, this thing is addictive. But yea, upgrades is a little expensive, so game becomes too grindy; couldn't complete much of the game. Otherwise it's cool, nice level generation too.

jacky-san 2025-04-09 16:09

I really like the game feel of the submarine with inertia etc :) Another good point is the shop between each run, kind of addictive !! As well as random generation of levels (even if sometimes it conducts to little rooms we cannot go to :p) No real bad points, good job ;)

jonasolsson 2025-04-09 16:41

Nice submarine game! Really addictive and nice graphics. It took me a while to understand why the heck you would want to upgrade the lamp, but then after a couple of tries it got pretty clear :D Good job!

xpoho 2025-04-09 16:42

изображение_2025-04-09_233942064.png

Sometimes generator creates very interesting rooms without any exit ^_^

Nice game! Reminded me of the very old DOS game called "UGH". It had similar mechanic ^_^

pincushion 2025-04-09 16:51

Really great game. Also spent a lot of time on it. Nice goodies to collect and buy. Having money to upgrade after death makes it easier the next run. So it's hard, but if you keep playing, it gets easier. Once the lights go out, it's really challenging. I like that the music changes as it happens.

I think there's a bug when the hull meter is blinking. It doesn't stop blinking as the ship is repaired. It's ok, because by the time that happens, I'll ram through whatever to get oxygen.

It's fun. Well done.

510 2025-04-09 17:55

@xpoho Haha! Yes, there's a guaranteed path going down, but the map outside the path is a "random" noise that is not guaranteed to connect to the main path, so you can basically have enclosed areas with treasures that are just there to taunt you =)

alopar 2025-04-09 17:57

It's a pretty cute game! And I was pleased to find the treasure. And the generation of levels makes you play the game again 🤗

t90 2025-04-09 19:14

Really impressive how addictive it is, I have made in only once to the bottom out of like 40 attempts but still had a sense of progress. Very good decision to allow you keep money even if you lose.

jtap 2025-04-09 19:22

Great and enjoyable game, good replayability. Thanks for playing!

oddballdave 2025-04-09 21:06

This is a fun little game. Has plenty of _depth_ to it. Everything worked well. Hitboxes were good, which I think is important for a game like this. I like the graphics and audio too. Good stuff :8ball:

red 2025-04-10 01:00

I always like to see random generation used in game jams! I liked that the hull damage wasn't just a health bar, but rather made your oxygen deplete faster, I also liked the little touch where hitting a mine would light up the whole level for a bit.

adamg 2025-04-10 03:09

Random generation gives the game a lot of charm. Simple game with lots of upgrades, always fun. I love the explosion when you hit the mine too.

pickens-inc 2025-04-10 19:58

The whole gameplay loop feels very tight! The difficulty is tuned just a bit too high, which I see you guys already knew, but the vibes qare all there. I could see this being a really satisfying game to play with more to explore and with a much lower difficulty! The atmosphere is great, I loved the music, and the level generation was - on the whole - very impressive! It all felt very organic, excepting the few times where you're faced with a literally impossible obstacle .Those angry fish too seem very difficult to avoid sometimes, so I didn't manage to make it pastg past level 3, but I like how the light became necessary!

I think as a result there are too many sources of difficulty, rather than just the game being too difficult. Light navigation, oxygen management, the deliberately tricky controls, upgrade management, and obstacle avoidance. I'd probably focus on one or two sources of challenge and cut others! I'm also not a fan AI generated content, but in this case I do appreciate that you stated pretty explicitly that you used it, and what you used it for, and it's pretty minor here. On the whole really solid entry, well done.

texugo 2025-04-10 21:49

I really like the mechanic of your oxygen depleting faster when the submarine is damaged, really nice touch there. The useless setting made me giggle! Great work

toreskovic 2025-04-10 23:19

Super solid game. Balancing seems on point, metaprogression is great, and the mood is definitely there. Had me playing for longer than I thought it would.

gamescodedogs 2025-04-11 06:36

Excellent project. Well and qualitatively done. Good luck with the voting!

flying-butter-studio 2025-04-11 06:42

Nice gameplay but a little bit stressfull  Well polished and great execution: good job !

christian-zommerfelds 2025-04-11 07:03

The graphics thumbnail attracted me to play the game :) But IMO the gradient of the light and around the player was not fitting well with the pixel art vibe. Maybe you could consider using a gradient with just a few steps or dithering, so that less colors appear on the screen.

I loved the progression. I think it was a bit too easy to get hit, maybe you could decrease the size of the collision area or make the first levels easier?

The gameplay itself wasn't very innovative: pretty classic and no surprises. So if you'd like to continue working on the game I'd try to come up with some unique game mechanic. But the level generation and buying upgrades, and darkness were super cool. Solid and fun entry!

lizz 2025-04-11 16:25

From the start I understood the assignment and how to move the submarine as its pretty basic controls. Which made it fun as I could directly just play. The graphics I like, its clear and fun. The sound is calm, and- "Oh is that a mine?" BOOM! "Yeah... That was a mine." You learn as you go  I was wondering what I would use the money for to then get at the end that pop up of upgrades, which made me really excited in wanting to continue playing for a long while. The one feedback I have is that I thought going up to the surface would refill my oxygen at first which had me waste some movement as I thought it was logical. While the theme was well done, it was not the newest way of doing so which... Is rather difficult to do anyways I believe. Anyhow, thanks for the fun game!

510 2025-04-11 17:20

Thanks for the feedbacks!

@christian-zommerfelds I can understand that a purist would not call it true pixel art haha! We actually had dithering in the air bar gradient at some point and it didn't look that great. With the darkening background, the particles, the shaders and the reliance on lighting, limiting the number of colors should've been a conscious and very early artistic decision and it would've been really tricky to achieve as a whole. Anyway, the game isn't really lowres enough to look great this way imo. The more "modern" approach looked quite nice to us (and maybe implied less work haha).

@lizz We actually implemented air loss out of water, because you could easily strand yourself and get stuck (it was also pretty fun to do with a mine haha!). So, we needed an easy way to end the game in that case. We didn't expect players to want to go back for air =)

paulhocker 2025-04-12 22:42

really well done game here -- i was impressed with the procedural generation of the playfield even tho it was broken sometimes -- and i really liked the upgrade system you implemented -- congrats on a great entry!

piero-pbes-studio 2025-04-18 19:57

c'est pas l'homme qui prend la mer sauf s'il est dans un sous marin !

cammyrnn 2025-04-19 05:45

its polished and cool :) i enjoyed playing. :] i enjoyed playing for a long time :}

jon-curtin 2025-04-21 20:00

Really great entry, I like the controls and the difficulty curve. I played for quite a while, really nice job.
