Nice platformeer with beautifull art well done
Fantastic atmosphere and world building, accompanied by amazing audio design! Really creative and well executed, I'd only increase the firefly light radius to make the cave section more visible. I absolutely love that you have to visit previous locations with your new skills to access new areas. I encountered an issue where upon entering the final code (or at least i think its the final code), the game just freezes. I'm not sure whether the game is supposed to just end or if I'm missing the ending soundtrack. Overall amazingly relaxing entry, great job :)
@lgk-productions sorry for that, I think it's the music not loading yes. You may try to reload the page, you can enter the code directly (KLIIKLKJL). We'll see if we can fix the issue even if the music doesn't load.
A very cool and even charming platformer with a musical component.
The metroidvania mechanics are conveyed well, and the boss battle added more challenge!
The style and palette are very pleasant, only good impressions from the game :)
This is one of the best games I’ve played on this site! The unique mechanics, which I’ve never seen before, and the well-thought-out level design deserve praise. However, I think the boss fight feels a bit out of place. The fight itself is fine, but the human boss doesn't quite fit the game's style, even though it's well-designed. Please keep going; I'm sure the game has great potential! :fire:
Ah, second time's the charm, it worked after a page reload. Also that's quite a challenging bossfight you got there.... But again very well designed and visually very pleasing
@motoilyuha yeah well, the human grandpa collecting mushrooms being the boss was just a joke when we talked about it but we kept it cause we thought it was fun ^^ but you're right it's not the most fitting in the general atmosphere
@tyrannas Oh, sorry I didn’t realize that earlier. In that case, it’s funny that a mushroom attacked the poor old man for collecting singing mushrooms.
Thank you for this experience! It was great to puzzle how the game works, the moments of discovery and the melodic tunes felt really good.
Game froze before getting to the supposed boss fight, though.
@essillore sorry, you can see my comment above (4th comment) if you want to finish the game. You don't have to redo what you've done. We'll try to fix that.
Very unique and cool! If I had any critique, I just wish the icon on the bottom left showing you how to activate stuff was bigger/more noticeable. Very cool though!!
I had a great time playing! Love the music elements as a part of the story!
AHHH C'EST FANTASTIQUE !! As my team's resident music and sound maker, I'm in love with how you incorporated music into the gameplay!! It's like a great combo of Chants of Sennaar, Legend of Zelda's ocarina mechanic, and Fez all in one. I'm in heaven! Très bien fait, bravo à toute l'équipe !
I like the details that went into making the level look more alive and help give it an overall dreamy vibe. I missed the little display at the bottom left at first and also thought the "left" rune was a "left up" rune believing the visual was matching a direction, but overall I was able to beat the game and enjoyed it.
I like colors, they are perfect
Fantastic game.
Very impressive to see a full experience like this being created in this short amount of time. The graphics are beautiful, I especially enjoy the tiny particles flying up when moving around. You achieved a great control of the platforming mechanics, which feel really good and snappy. Even while liking platformers, I'm not really good at them. The different melodies you unlock over time are so cool! I liked that with each one I felt a sense of progression and new adventures are possible. For me it was not easy to remember the symbols and how to map them on the keyboard, but that's just me being not good with these things, especially when gigantic hands are punching you off the platforms, when I'm just trying to jump from mushroom to mushroom to reach the top.
Also, of course games in which you jump on mushrooms are awesome ;)
Very well done! :)
Very cool entry! The main mechanic isn't something we see too often. I didn't immediately understand that the runes in the lower left corner were the ones I had "memorized", because the first one I played (the teleport) wasn't among them. But it eventually clicked. I think it could benefit from notifying you when you get a new song because when I was in the "underground" level, it took me a while to realize I had unlocked a new song from those individual runes. I also wonder if I missed something in that part of the level because some paths led nowhere, or led to inverted platforms I couldn't reach.
I wasn't sure how to progress but I eventually went back to the starting area, hoping I had the full song (I had found two parts) and that's when the game froze, so I used the cheat code after that. The boss fight is a bit tough due to the unforgiving platforming, and once I reached the top with the face, I had no idea what to do to beat him. I tried every song and even tried climbing on top of the hands when they fall, but to no avail. Maybe there's a clue that could be made clearer?
One final suggestion would be to have a small "deadzone" around the player before the camera moves, especially on the Y axis - it's more pleasant if the camera doesn't jump up as soon as the player does, but only when you reach a certain height.
Congrats on finishing the jam!
@robin-schmitz Thanks for your comment, really appreciate it!
@kyrio Thanks too for the comment and the feedbacks! Yeah we had too much to do, we should have done less but better. You missed one part at the very top left but else you did all good. For the boss, after you make the basket drop, a rune fall from it to the top right of the level. This is the melody you have to make on the last platform to finish the game. You can train for it on the stell directly as it's a safe spot. Maybe you don't even saw it, it might be confused with the scenery.
This game is BURSTING with masterful design. The entire experience was so lovely, down to each detail - the echo that plays after I do, the notes from sequential bounces on the mushies, the first moment you light up a room, the realization that mushies can protect you from above - oh my god, what a fantastic little game. Every sprite is beautifully rendered, and the focus on strong silhouettes, a pleasing color palette, and bucolic theme made for mouthwatering visuals. The challenge was spot on, and I gasped with glee when we got to do a boss fight, combining all previous mechanics! As a lover of Majoras Mask, this absolutely warmed my heart. Hats off to each and every one of you involved in the process, masterful work!
Man i don't kown what to say... just a banger
Wow! This is so good! The concept was just beautiful. It's such a great idea, and you've executed it so well. I'm amazed at how quickly the abilities became second nature. After just a few tries the brain internalized da-da-di and the fingers could recall it when needed.
The art, the music and the overall mood was spot on. It was such a serene and peaceful experience...
UNTIL! The boss, which I completely didn't expect, and it was so weird, and hilarious, and awesome! It was a great ending, and it really took me by surprise.
Great job, you've made a very good game!
Feels like we were playing dark souls. The controls was discomfortable, press space to jump was intuitive mechanic, so get used to yours is hard. Was nice to see some finished game with great mechanics. We would like to see some visual feedback from the main stone.
Beauty! simple and interesting) I love it!
So cool! Wonderful graphics
@durkagames haha what do you mean "feels like playing dark souls" ? As a souls player I'm not really sure to understand the comparison :P as for space we thought using wasd+ ijkl + Space was maybe too much but maybe not After all, we'll add the binding for further players maybe
What a beautiful game! Love the art, the fluid movement and the music component. I got a bit stuck though and didn´t know how to keep making progress, but i´d definitely give it another try :)
Why tf is the jump button W!!!!!! This game has such an interesting concept, reminded me of Wind Waker, absolutely a joy to play, although the times for each song to last felt too short and it just made me get irritated sometimes. Also, the game is gorgeous.
Really cool game! Art was great, music was great! Best of all, the game design was stellar! It had very lite metroidvania feel to it. Super well done!
P.S. I got to the top at the final boss segment, but wasn't sure what to do lol any tips?
@ellearx I Can give you a hint if you tell me where you were :)
@sabrina-ross haha same answer than for @durkagames, we thought Space + wasd + ijkl would be too much but we'll add the binding !
@larryseinfeld you get to the top, make the basket fall and inside there is a New stone with runes, you go UP again, and then all the way to the boss and use this final song :) (WE know it's not super obvious sorry)
Image_20241011004220.png
I got stuck at this part and wasn’t sure what to do next. It seems like I need to press this rune, but none of the letters on the right side of my keyboard seem to respond. It was a bit frustrating. (But later, my friend passed this part, and I realized I got stuck because I couldn’t find the other stones XD)
Even though I didn’t finish the game, I think the design is really cool. I felt like a wizard encountering different rune patterns and recording them in my spellbook. I think this has a lot of potential as a gameplay mechanic .
The music and art are fantastic, perfectly matching the game's atmosphere! Looking forward to your next project.

Super cool game! Prob my favorite this jam! Love the design, feels super original and innovative. I had so much fun with the audio and the puzzles. Would love to buy an extended version of the game!
I did got the bug stuck at the first "winning" tho so that's a bit sad...but I managed to get to the boss and beat the boss (with more than 20 tries LOL)
Overall def a 10/10 game. Love it! Will follow the progress if there are plans to make an extended version!!! (Would also love to cooperate if possible haha
The game has an amazing atmosphere, it is very challenging. unique is the way the gameplay requires a bit of dexterity. In the stage with skylights it stutters a little perhaps some optimization error. In my opinion, this is a nice game that should be developed further I think it can confidently succeed. greetings ~Socio
Realy nice game with a super chill mood. The controls feel very smooth but jump not being on space was a bit unusual for me. The final boss fight was very stressful in a good way. One of the best games this jam imo.
Very nice atmosphere and mechanic. Took me a little bit to find out which keys play the notes, but a delight after that. I really like the soundscape, and for some reason I especially liked the sound the ladder-bugs made as they descended. The boss fight at the end was well made and a good difficulty, but I felt that it was a strange pace change and almost wish the "boss" was more of some sort of "orchestra" of the forest that you had to properly synchronize or something to progress. Loved the light motes behind the chanterelle, the music notes, and the colors.
@thesmellofoxygen thanks for the review ! Yeah using a grandpa collecting mushrooms was more of a joke at first but somehow we made it real cause we thought it was funny but I actually LOVE your idea of a forest orchestra that needs to be synchronized ! Defintely going to think about it :)
This is easily the best game I've played so far this jam. Its concept here is amazing, finding songs to unlock new interactions with the environment is amazing. The atmosphere of the game is so strong. This game does not feel like it was made within three days. You guys should be proud, great work!
This game is incredible! it has fun platforming, great audio, fantastic visuals, and a great sense of style to it! It gave me really strong ocarina of time vibes, and I loved how you had to learn various different types of songs to use in traversing the environments!
I will say that every once in a while I got a small hiccup where the music would hang for a second, but outside of that one minor bug I really never had any issues with the game
And bold of you to try and make a boss stage for a jam but you somehow managed to make it work!! Usually that's something that people avoid just due to added complexity so props to your for getting it together!
Fantastic job! This is my favorite one I've seen (and the first I've given all 5s to)!
Super fun idea. Controls get a little tough eventually on keyboard, but otherwise it felt intuitive to learn each melody and use muscle memory to do some of the platforming segments. The art is fitting and effective enough, and overall its incredibly polished.
I just... Wow. One of the best entries I tried so far.
Incredible audio- and artwork here with surprisingly much content! It's like a mix of Ori and One Hand Clapping. Was a bit confused at the start what to actually do and I got stuck in the dark passages at some points. Feels like a really high quality submission and way above the standard here!
What a splendid atmosphere! It is a bit hard to tell what is up, down, left, or right when playing the tune, and memorizing each combination can be slightly frustrating (Maybe smaller combinations could help with that), but I got used to it, and after that it was fun. The difficulty curve works really well. The final boss is a great final challenge, and even though it shouldn’t, I think it fits the atmosphere really well. It is probably the best platformer I’ve played in this competition so far, and it has one of the best moods. Well done!
Wonderful game! I also encountered the bug where the game froze when I tried to summon the mushroom guy, but I followed the advice to reload and managed to beat the boss (it took me a while to notice the melody that triggers the spores).
It’s great that as you progress, you memorize the melodies and start using them automatically—and overall, the mechanic is really fun. I didn’t really like the segment with the fireflies—they didn’t help much with orientation even when activated (maybe the light radius should be bigger or just increase the number of fireflies).
I liked the level design—not too long in each segment, but not too short either. The only issue I had was accidentally going right after getting out of the dark cave, and I couldn’t go back. I had to go through the firefly segment again.
I didn’t expect the boss at all. I thought the game would end after I played the last melody, but nope! The boss was cool, and it was great that there were checkpoints.
So far, this is one of the best games I’ve played in this Ludum Dare.Снимок экрана 2024-10-13 025320.png
THAT IS FANTASTIC IDEA! so cool made me give it 5/5 for all
Extremely impressive! Thank you for making this :)
Amazing game. It actually reminded me of the Shantae for the game boy color due to how you have to use directional input to complete other actions! I really enjoyed the art and sound of the game as it pulled everything together nicely and created an atmosphere that reminded me somewhat of the melancholy of games like hollow knight. The use of the theme was nice, but really kicked in during the boss fight. I can sing praises on nearly every part of this game. Great work to everyone. 5 stars across the board.
This is a very cool game, but it turned out to be a little too difficult when you need to take into account a lot of things at once
Absolutely beautiful artstyle! Love the parallax effect you implemented. Color palette really adds to the mood. Gameplay signing mechanic was very interesting; A little bit difficult, but I enjoyed it. Well done on this entry!
Fun main mechanic and great atmosphere. Darkness puzzles got a little difficult to follow.
this game is phenomenal! i like the the art stule, both cute and mysterious, the mechanics of the puzzles, how much they differ and the more you explore the more you know about the world :) and the starting sequence when you have to fall down to proceed with the magical teleport stone was soo good! my only comment is that for me as a casual player it was a bit hard to remember the music sequence :D i concentrated too hard on planning my way through the game and couldn't think of the patterns at the same time. maybe it could be one button for a melody that you learned? or maybe less symbols for each of them? or maybe some effects could be a bit longer so that you don't panic (like me :D) that you should hurry and make mistakes in the melodies just learned. this game definitely needs you to be in no rush and have enough time to wander through the platform maze. and i am actually glad that it does that :) i will definitely give it one more try as i want to reach the ending!
@gamayun-games thank you for your nice comment ! Just in case you didnt notice cause it's a bit obvious but the songs you learn are displayed at the bottom left of your screen so you don't have to remember everything :)
This is a really cool concept and pretty well executed! The art and music are both very charming and the gameplay is unique.
It reminds me a lot of the game Loom, in which you learn different songs to solve puzzles, and you learn them by interacting with the environment. I wonder if this somehow inspired you?
I do have some feedback: - I really (really) struggled with the controls. It was hard to connect keyboard-key-to-musical-note, especially when I had more songs. I think this can be improved by making the symbols actual letters. - I think the movement feels a bit stiff. - Spoiler (I did not like the dark part. It's cool that I can light the fireflies, so it could be just me. I just don't like having to navigate pitch-black-zones, I find them frustrating). - It would be cool if each song had a symbol so I can remember what it does :) - I also think the songs could affect things for longer. - I liked how songs can connect!
Hey @aviv-levy and thanks for the exhaustive review really helps ! We are aware the dark part really need some adjustments to be pleasant, and as for the runes we wanted them not too explicitly looking like letters or directions to make it more puzzle like, but just like you, quite a lot of people struggled with it si yeah that's defintely something that should be changed ! And no we didnt know Loom but it Indeed looks a lot like our mechanic haha !
@tyrannas I totally understand wanting the player to have to decipher the runes, so it's hard to balance. Maybe the puzzle could be about figuring out the song, (like how song parts can be scattered), and less about remembering the controls. Maybe after deciphering runes they turn into letters. Just some thoughts 🤩
Great atmosphere, I especially liked the game's color scheme. It was cool when the bouncy mushrooms and hanging vines got combined, that made for some really interesting platforming challenges
That was such an amazing experience! The music was great, and the stress over remembering the notes was also really fun.
The art was so cute! I'm not a fan of squash and stretch with pixel art, but other than that, perfect.
It took me a minute to figure out the music controls just because the letters on the pit were gibberish. perhaps some different colors? or even just add to the game description.
One of the best games I played so far :)
p.s.
Godot is always a win
@kultuk ohhh it's shrimpy ! Thanks for the review and yeah good point for the letters I should have made them more easy to read ! I'll fix that in the future :) (and no we didnt want to put it in the game description since the first "puzzle" is falling into the pit and discovering that you can make music haha
Hi! Coming from the post https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/chanterune/from-ludum-dare-entry-to-steam-release
I soon realized that I have already rated the game and this still prob remains my fav in this jam ^^
Now thinking about the full version in the future: - I love the sound puzzle and would love to see more of that. Would love to see more use of different musical elements. For example, pitch can be transferred into heights of the platforms; volume can be related to some size control etc. - One important thing to figure is the ratio combining the battle VS platformer puzzles. I find the boss fight quite cool yet a felt a bit segregated in the game jam version. I do find the boss fight itself fun and thinking there even might be a potential turning into a boss rush game, but this depends which direction you want the game to go ofc. I like the mechanics either way, just needs to find a good balance between those two. - Also please fix the ending scene bug ^^
I would also love to be a part of the project if possible/needed haha ^^
loved the game! the artsyle is great, and the setting to be very pretty, I like some of the crumbs of lore present
the controls feel responsive, I found the mechanic to be creative and I thought it was used very effectively throughout the game, the platforming felt well designed and the perfect amount of difficult. the bossfight at the end was a nice way to end things off The only thing, like someone one else mentioned, would be that I wish the fireflies had a bigger light radius, as it made the dark part a tiny bit difficult to traverse
I think it's worth turning into a full game, the mechanic has a lot of potential to be used in a lot of ways and create some pretty intricate gameplay especially with some combat
this is one of the strongest entries I have played so far, really enjoyed everything
Wow, you've captured a great mood in this one. Amazing visuals and sound!
Hello! I saw that you guys are looking for feedback on whether this game has commercial potential or not, so I'll give my thoughts based upon that premise! For context, I've been a AAA dev for 7 years now, but before I was indie for a few years. It's been a while since I've been in the indie space though so consider that while reading my opinion.
The two factors that I consider when gauging the commercial viability of a product are the potential for marketability (acquisition) and retention.
I feel like your game concept has strong potential for retention. The core mechanic is interesting and immediately intuitive, but obviously packs a lot of depth and potential for future variations and combinations of songs. The tricky thing is how you would scale the numbers of songs, since already learning 2 or 3 was a bit of a challenge to remember and establish muscle memory for the inputs. You will need to think very systemically! The general style of the experience where knowledge is the only progression mechanic is super cool and I think there's a niche that you're hitting.
Your biggest challenge for this game is marketability. As you probably know already, 2D platformers are by far the most common game released, so the market for these games is extremely saturated. This makes acquisition of users difficult since your game needs to REALLY stand out, and stand out within the first few seconds of a user seeing gameplay. Luckily, your mechanics are easily explained in a gif, so the mechanical hook for your game shouldn't be that hard to convey!
However, I do feel like the overall visual presentation is lacking that same level of hook to match the mechanic. As I said, I think the visual bar is just set incredibly high these days in the 2D platformer genre to break through all of the noise. You'll need to be in the upper 1/2% of games visually to attract attention. Look at games like Spiritfarer or The Last Night to get an idea of the quality bar you'll need to hit. Outliers like Animal Well are not good reference unless you also have a youtube partner with millions of subscribers to market your game for you.
Before you commit to a commercial future for this project I would try to do a visual "keyhole", which is just a polished proof-of-concept for shippable quality visuals and see if you can do some marketing tests to see if your games visual style is enough to gain traction on social media or other marketing channels.
It's a great concept and you guys seem very talented as a team! I believe you can do it but make sure you're testing the marketability first! Good luck :)
This is gorgeous. Great platforming, and a really cool concept! I appreciate how you managed teach the mechanics by integrating the tutorial into the environment design. The firefly area was a bit confusing at times, since some sections never got any light. I wish it were slightly more friendly to navigate when the fireflies are lit, but I like the general idea. There are a reasonable number of opportunities to practice each song before having to execute combinations of them quickly, so it felt like a good challenge without getting frustrating. I would play a full version of this!
An extremely tasteful game that utilizes great colour combinations and subtle movement to make the world feel truly alive. It felt quite nostalgic, honestly, and made me remember the days when I thought that games were a little bit like magic. Well, perhaps they still are.
Lyrics aside, I'm usually bad with anything involving timed inputs or memorisation under stress, but I felt like I could still go on here, and practice really made perfect. Got a little spooked by the darkened levels, too, but they kinda made the ending all the more rewarding.
Thank you everyone for such detailed feedback, we're truly grateful !
And thank you very very much @cpaz for sharing such useful insight with us, it's greatly appreciated !
