LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Bum Bag Bangin' by DuzzOnDrums 2017-12-05T23:11:51Z

LOL this is so good!

The presentation of your game is fantastic! And the game is amazing as a whole.

The only thing I didn't like is that I found its kinda repetitive, maybe you could add 1 or 2 spells/attacks and scale the difficulty. But in my opinion the mood and concept of the game were flawlessly executed, good job!

NTOZ 2 by Mack101dog 2017-12-05T06:02:22Z

I agree with pretty much everything from the comment above. I think it's important to have some kind of hit confirm for the player, both with sound as for graphics. I know it's really hard to do it in 3 days and only 2 people, but these things were pretty much the soul of your game, IMO. But congratulations anyway!

Overloan by MC_Crash 2017-12-05T05:14:52Z

First, congratulations for your game. It's hard enough to do a game alone, but having to do it alone in 3 days AND while you are sick must not have been easy. However, I have to say I found your game too confusing, I didn't find clear at all what each option for both Job and Barracks was for. Maybe you could try to develop a new way to present the features of your game for the next time. But anyway, that's just my opinion

Kingdom Savior by tmpxyz 2017-12-06T14:48:13Z

I liked the concept of your game! It was an interesting take on the theme and a fresh experience overall. And the game works like a charm! It has potential.

But I think the mood needs work. I feel kinda bad to critique this because you made it alone, BUT you did put ratings for mood, audio and graphics, and the things is: your audio and the art (the quality of the graphic is fine) have to work towards the same goal, which is setting up the mood.

The game description and title gives the impression it's going to be an epic old school fantasy vibe, but just as you start the music starts throwing it off by showing EDM elements. The enemies are fine, but why do their death animation says "smash" if you are killing them with arrows? If the resources are supposed to be some kind of mineral, why do they drop coins? The main character is also kind of bland: shouldn't the main character be the best looking character in this kind of game?

And finally, I feel the game could be more punishing. But anyway, congratulations!

It's the Wurst by A-Flat Miner Studios 2017-12-07T00:04:08Z

Cool game! I feel it could use more polish on the graphics and audio, but they are serving their purpose just right :D

In my opinion it would be a lot more fun if it was point click shooter, but that's just me, I respect your decision. Congratulations!

Dog-Off! by BrothersT 2017-12-05T22:37:45Z

Best game I've played so far from this jam. Got 90 points \o/ Your game is amazing! The only thing I think it could be improved was the tutorial: you could have explained when you have to hold or just press the keys, and also when you write key1+key2 , usually it means pressing the keys at the same time, but you meant pressing them in a sequence. Will definetly give you highest score though, congratulations!!

Dog-Off! by BrothersT 2017-12-06T23:47:33Z

@furka Hey there. I'm the guy that made to the third place, and no, you don't have cheat to get these scores. If you are just joking I'm sorry, but I get the feeling you are not haha

If you want I'm pretty sure I can beat second place while streaming and recording my keyboard with a webcam

edit: I meant just the second score actually, but idk, maybe 117 is possible too. @brothersT do you want me to try to get there?

Dog-Off! by BrothersT 2017-12-07T00:00:26Z

Hahahahaha this is kind of amusing xD of course I'll try again, your game is amazing! No need to say sorry, you can delete your scores whenever you want to, it's your game! I'll do a stream later, I'll just forget about the webcam though, it's kind of a hassle and I'm shy *.*

Pet Watch by Skyward 2017-12-07T00:50:02Z

Ok, cool game! The apps are pretty nice, and I think it was a cute way to tackle the theme haha

Take care with the sfx: most barkings (if not all of them) are clipping at the end of the audio file, you have to make a small fade out at the end of the files. At first I was mistaking the bed for a steak, and in the beginning I thought they were hungry, but it's probably just me (you even explain it in the tutorial).

In my opinion there should be a key shortcut to getting and turning on the phone. I understand it makes the game considerably easier, but I found it very tedious to have to click on the phone to use it. And finally, maybe place some light on the outdoors? I lost several dogs when they went outside because I couldnt see them T_T

Smooth Lines by yojammerjammer 2017-12-05T05:52:23Z

I think your game did very well a lot of crucial stuff for this genre. It had great songs to set the mood, the characters were nice, I think you managed to make each of them special, the story was pretty coherent with the mood, at least for me.

Now some feedback on just a couple of things I didn't like: on the Options section, the options that are colored black were very hard to read here in windowed mode (I use a 1080p monitor). And I missed SFX, I think at least some sound for when you click buttons would make a big difference.

Congratulations!

EAT by Algebru 2017-12-06T15:23:25Z

I really like the art and the music, they worked together perfectly IMO. But I think the SFX didn't blend that well with the whole package, it feels off. Maybe try to create or work on some chomping/eating sound. It could keep getting more and more "evil" as you increase in size. Also I missed sfx for the humans (maybe some crowd yelling?)and the monster walking. I'm just saying all this stuff about the SFX because just listening to the music makes me sure that you are more than capable of doing all of this :)

And I found the cannon is too unpredictable, and at the same time the ammo is too fast to be able to rely only on reflexes when you get too big, so I think it's unfair.

But it's a great looking game and it runs pretty well. Congratulations!

Horny Bunny by Thomas FUentes 2017-12-07T14:12:38Z

What did I just play

Guardian Angel by Raven 2017-12-07T13:25:12Z

Cool story! I think it was pretty nice how you tied tutorial+mechanics with narrative, not only I think it was very well made, but it shows you have a knack for it. I agree with the first comment about getting hit 2-3 times equaling death, I would say that balance was the biggest issue. Maybe the step after that would be adding some upgrades to the character? Also, consider lowering the top bar when you take too long to get souls, I feel it would help set a better pacing for the game (although it's also harder to balance).

Congratulations!

Signing Session Simulator by azrou 2017-12-05T21:36:45Z

Yeah, I feel like I'm playing on the hardest difficulty right off the bat lol. I enjoyed it, but I have to say I actually became a little annoyed with how creepy the fans are.

On the drawing minigame, sometimes the same click I did to pass text would show up as a black dot on the autograph. In my opinion the SFX that plays when you pass text should be louder. I feel it should be loud enough to make a clear difference between the clock and going through the text.

But anyway, congratulations! It's a nice game

Grim Reaper by Lamossus 2017-12-07T13:06:53Z

Nice game! I thought it was a nice concept and well executed.

The store could be more tidy IMO: it's easy to understand for which upgrade each description is for, and it's also easy to understand where should you click to buy them, but you have to think about 5 seconds until you understand, and for this kind of game it should be kind of automatic.

As for the attacks, if you add some hit confirmation SFX it will help the player understand if they hit the enemy or not. But idk, I still was perfectly able to tell if I hit an enemy or not. Congratulations!

BloXy! by sajid 2017-12-07T12:20:28Z

I have never played something like this before, it was a fresh experience! I think it's mainly because of the movement.

Many times when I died, the "death animation" occured in a different spot than where I died. But idk, besides this I don't have much to say, I liked it! Congrats!

Outnumbered by thebillington 2017-12-05T21:19:05Z

Oh no, it's nier automata last route all over again!

I think it was pretty cool and balanced. I have a couple of suggestions: Take another look at the hitbox, I tested for some time and I am sure enemy bullets can hit you without touching you. And I thought it was harder to see the turret when it spawned over the controls (it wasn't a big issue, it's an unecessary annoyance IMO)

Armed Descent by Acr515 2017-12-06T23:30:20Z

Man!!! Your game is nothing short of amazing! The level design is superb, the balancing too, the art works pretty well (nice touch on getting darker and darker as you descent and the LD posters), the audio is great!! I had to play 3 times until I got to the end, and I had a lot of fun thinking about how many bullets should I get and where should I spend them, so your interpretation of the theme was fantastic. You said you wished you could make more levels. Well, in my opinion you didn't have to, because these 12 levels were definetly more then enough to show you are a very skilled game designer and that you know this genre pretty well. I hope you are proud of this game, because you have every right to.

I'm going to rate you 5 stars in everything EXCEPT audio because, even though the SFX were amazing, I think reloading and empty clip when trying to shoot sounds are essential in this kind of game, and they were missing.

Some things you might want to know in case you didn't notice: if you overlap one of the enemies that shoot, he just stays there and can't damage you. If you alt+enter and go fullscreen, the game doesn't resize properly and the UI doesnt work properly (couldn't select the options properly on fullscreen, for example).

One of the best games in this jam, congratulations!

edit: another thing I forgot to say. Usually the bullet counter is like "bullets loaded/bullet magazine", but in your game it's inverted. It's not that big of a deal, it's ok to be different, but IMO it would be better if it followed tradition :)

Armed Descent by Acr515 2017-12-06T23:34:53Z

Oh, so that's why I had no bullets on the last level, I thought it was supposed to be that way haha. You still can beat the last level only with the bullets you can find there, though

Matchy's Kooky Cookies by Michael Silverman 2017-12-05T04:53:58Z

Fun game! I think the cute characters and smooth animations really helped to get into the mood for the mindless clicking lol. Oh, and sound was not working here for some reason

Cat Saviour: The Rain Is Coming by Pavel Smejkal 2017-12-05T15:34:46Z

The puzzles and the level design were great! And well, the game runs perfectly. I hadn't thought about it before reading the comment above, but idk, I'm fine with jump speed. I feel like you set a clear goal and made a fine job, congrats!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

I'm Not A Robot by Turkey 2022-04-06T17:28:36Z

Haha I had fun! I never thought captchas could be such an intense experience. I have a single suggestion: I would have liked it if the text box was selected automatically between challenges, as opposed to physically having to click the text box.

Holding On by Trebby 2022-04-05T02:51:36Z

I held on for 215seconds. Beautiful experience, I thought it encapsulated very well the idea of "endless" overthinking, of going on and on over things that have no solution, other than letting go. Very interesting game! A minor nitpick on the presentation: the "room tone" sound had a discerning clip when it looped. Other than that, imo the presentation was very nice!

Tax Evaders by Carlos Murillo 2022-04-05T02:38:10Z

I found the game to be very scary! The premise is funny (in a good way.) I thought the cycles could be a bit faster, and the main player could have a model!

Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-06T17:49:45Z

Good looking game, and overall it feels very polished. I had a bit of a hard time figuring out which piece to use :'(

Death Is Inevitable by TherealMoebius 2022-04-05T02:31:36Z

Kinderkaos by Gravityflip 2022-04-06T17:39:00Z

Really nice game! Everything works very well together, I had a lot of fun.

Ragnarök: Fight for The Yggdrasil by Hylin Games 2022-04-05T03:18:03Z

I thought it was very satisfying to play! The balancing and the core mechanics work very well, nicely done! Given the goal of the project, I only have a single feedback: I thought the player's bullets were a bit too small, I personally would rather wish I was "stronger".

Impending Doom of a Thousand Kitties by RalfZ 2022-10-07T01:40:43Z

watching cute cats has never stressed me this much in my entire life

Gnomageddon by Nikolaj 2022-10-04T15:29:40Z

Hahaha I found the atmosphere hilarious, it was chaotic but in a good way. Also, I planted 5 houses around the cauldron (one of them right on top of it) and gg long live the gnome kingdom

Sonar by erikiene 2022-10-04T16:56:54Z

Wow, big team and big aspirations. I had to play the original upload as the link to the patched version wasn't working for me.

- I really liked how you implemented the theme into this, it was very clever.

- The atmosphere is top notch, it's definitely one of the most impressive looking and sounding games I've played in a ludum dare. To me, it surpassed the definition of a jam game in technical levels, it looks very polished, 5/5 without a doubt.

- Design is also fun and it's addicting to harvest things.

Some critical feedback:

- [IGNORE]* I think my game was broken, as there was no more loot or enemies spawning after the initial wave.I've tried several times but no shot, so I couldn't really upgrade my ship or deliver enough resources.

- I also would have preferred if I had started closer to the surface, on the delivery area, so I could have more time to gather my surroundings and test movement/shooting.

- When trying to aim, I tried to click in the desired direction, but the ship would turn in a weird way and I missed my shots! The only way I could properly aim was to shoot WHILE moving in a particular direction. I personally did not like that

- I thought the futz dialogue tracks were sick, but I couldn't really understand what was being said. While I understand that might have been intentional, I would have preferred for it be more intelligible. Also on audio: I felt there could be a wider spread in ambience between the surface and the depths: closer the surface it could be way more lighter and safer, and closer to the depths heavier and imposing (like it is now).

Impressive entry imo

* Edit: ohhhhh you are just supposed to keep exploring, I get it now.

Ahhh this game is cute! I love cooking games and I think this one was very enjoyable to play! Reminded me a lot of Cook, Serve, Delicious! I lost my first run because I couldn't read which letter "egg" was (it was "e"). I'll try to get some good scores

@Yanrishatum That's awesome. We absolutely didn't push the boundaries of our game, and I personally had no clue something like this would be possible. Thank you so much for spending the time, this might sound generic, but it really means a lot. Are you a speedrunner?

Garden Slime by Amanda Neff 2022-10-07T01:16:39Z

Coziest game I've played in a jam! I liked the idea, and I think the visuals and music were great. I wished there were more mechanics, sound effects and visual effects implemented, but I understand it's just a prototype!

Clique Hell High by Sean Esopenko 2022-10-04T18:03:54Z

I had a great experience! Literally LOL'd right of the bat, the game is so funny. I thought the level design was great, it felt challenging but far from cheap. Everything also works together in a very cohesive way imo, including the theme! Really felt like the design pushed the mechanics your team came up with in an abundant way. Great stuff! Screenshot_1.jpg

Time To Go by Iancplatt341 2022-10-07T01:24:10Z

TIME TO GO! I found it very chaotic, in a funny and positive way. I liked how the wall jump was reminiscent of Mega Man X, Zero and Hollow Knight. I think at this point, even though the game lacks polish, everything works in a cohesive way... maybe some placeholder sound effects would have worked well here!

Overwhelming swarm by neropatti 2022-10-04T16:26:32Z

Fun game! I liked design, it felt challenging but not cheap. I wished there was a timer throughout the run, alongside your highest score!

IMO the waves are too long! But wow, this theme really brought the creativity out of some people, I would have never expected this mash up lol

Just one thing to add that apparently no one talked about: your game have no sound, so why did you not opt-out of audio rating?

Congratulations!
