LD44 — Your life is currency

Basil Price: Mint Investigator by minibobbo 2019-05-03T03:15:48Z

Having never played a Phoenix Wright game, I am now interested in Phoenix Wright games after playing this. Great job for only 72 hours!

Florp Farming by groverburger 2019-04-30T07:03:48Z

I had a lot of fun playing this game and seeing how all the different items interacted with one another. I also enjoyed the art style, it's nice to see something other than pixel art every now and then.

SPENDOTRON: 2019 by KilledByAPixel 2019-04-30T03:00:00Z

Addictive game. I made it to wave 7 with $7.27 spent. The controls felt really smooth, despite the occasional jitters, and it was really satisfying to just shoot on rapid fire. Only recommendation would be providing some feedback on when you respawn and may not randomize the map on respawn.

Gainz 4 Cash by 0x01F0 2019-05-03T02:35:12Z

Despite the game being relative simple in terms of game play it was extremely funny and innovative. Great job!

Elthus by ejmejm 2019-04-30T14:36:37Z

I managed to hit a depth of about 1100. The grappling hook was a nice addition that really tied the gameplay together. It would be nice to have some type of indication of what each ore color did or a HUD that lists your current stats so you know what to prioritize. Overall, great game and I would be interested in playing a finalized version if you decide to continue development.

BULLDOZERS! FROM OUTER SPACE by auxC 2019-04-30T00:52:18Z

I wasn't able to get past the third level, but I enjoyed the look and feel of what I was able to experience. The only issues I had were with not being able to tell how many enemies I needed to fend off on a given level and that the splash effect of the meteor was difficult to predict since the radius extended the circle indicator.

Combo Wiz by pokenoufl 2019-05-03T02:52:43Z

Really fun game! I'm glad I played it twice. In the first run through I got hit quite a bit and couldn't get past 10 life, and thought it was an issue with the game. However, upon playing it a second time and being more diligent in dodging I believe that the 3% faster decrease is actually cumulative and persistent which is a great balancing mechanic to make the game not seem like an endless wave shoot. Artwork was great and I really enjoyed the animations, in particular the melee swipes. There were only two things I didn't like. The first is that the that the tutorial was on the screen to long without the option to skip. The second was that the enemy shooting sound effects were driving me made after playing for about 10 minutes straight. Otherwise, as I said before. Great game for something created in 48 hours!

Reap into Cash by vulpineblazeyt 2019-04-30T05:36:53Z

Although it had a simple premise the game was fun for the minute or two it took to win, and I enjoyed the soundtrack as well. I believe the gameplay would have been a lot more engaging if you redefined the role of the reapers and set a limited amount of peeps that spawned. If the reapers sole purpose was to hunt you down and kill you on contact (for stealing their peeps) and you had to navigate around them looking for peeps to reap then the game play could have been extended a bit without having to change much logic.

It Will Cost You Your Life by R3L0ad1 2019-04-30T15:29:56Z

Great concept. I could see this turning into a gladiatorial type game where you are pitted against enemies and have to spend life to purchase different gear/weapons before going out. My biggest complaint is that transition screen. The color and pattern hurts the eyes, I'd recommend just transition to a black screen with maybe some "loading" text on it.

Time Thief by beanslasher 2019-04-30T15:10:30Z

I’m not able to play the game, due to a lack of controllers and people, so my ratings are based solely from your screenshots. The game sounds like it would be fun and I look forward to trying it in the future when I have enough people to play with.

Board Life by Serious07 2019-04-30T03:29:40Z

I felt like this was a very unique take on the theme. While the game itself is very intuitive it would have been nice to have some goal or objective instead of just clicking around on tiles and dropping dice. Speaking of the dice, at times they felt clunky to drop sometimes and felt very easy to manipulate in their current implementation. Overall though a relaxing game and good soundtrack!

Death Coin Battle Royale by ZakAmana 2019-04-30T01:21:59Z

I played enough matches to get 3 or 4 loot boxes. I only ran into one noticeable bug; when the circle is finished any participants in vehicles appear to be immortal (even when they exit). It would be cool to be able to see all your unlocks somewhere since they are difficult to see on the participants unless they are the victor or you zoom all the way in. Otherwise, very fun game!

Age of Coin - Battle Stars: ULTRA by squirmonkey 2019-04-30T14:07:18Z

The coin battle portion of the game was really unique and surprisingly fun. Great idea adding the platformer section to gather new coins and intel on the upcoming battle. The only issues I ran into were with the enemy jump and getting trapped by the floating clouds were able to trap me against a wall on the third level in that small shaft at the bottom left so I wasn't able to get away to continue collecting coins. I'd be interested in trying a polished up version if you decide to continue development on it.

Loot Goblin by Zeaga 2019-05-03T03:03:32Z

The art style, animation, and music is great! Gameplay was simple, but always forced the player to be on the move due to the enemy being on the same path as them on spawn. Great job for a JAM game!

Vampire Quest by cyriaque 2019-04-30T15:58:01Z

I really liked the animation and sound. The combat felt a bit clunky, especially since I could stand on the enemy head and kill them. The only bug I ran into was falling through the map when I respawned once. I was able to play through the majority of the game but never made it all the way to the boss.

Force of Nature by Griddolini 2019-04-30T03:58:06Z

One of the best LD44 games I've played so far! I really enjoyed just above every aspect of this game. The only thing I would have liked to see improved would be having more control over what buildings were being generated/upgraded.

The value of your life? by DarkShinobi100 2019-04-30T16:33:00Z

The design seemed like it would be fun, but the camera and aiming system made it difficult to play even on full screen. For the amount of time I was able to play I also didn't seem to be able to kill more than one enemy before I ran out of ammo, even when every bullet hit them. Impressive job though for doing everything yourself.

Fields of Sacrifice by Isvan 2019-04-30T04:50:29Z

I really love the artwork and I also like the sacrificial upgrades as it had a nice balance to power/benefit. I managed, somehow, to make myself immortal on wave 5 so I managed to buy all the upgrades. However, in doing so I got stuck in a corner on wave 7 (I assume an enemy is behind a pillar somewhere) so I'm not sure if there is an ending or not. Either way, great game!

ATM {At_The_Machine} by scott.redrup 2019-04-30T15:05:41Z

Interesting idea. However, I didn't realize it was a two player game or what the controls were until I played 2-3 rounds so it may be beneficial to others to add that to the description.

DEA-7H by b3agz 2019-04-30T06:08:41Z

Amazing game for only 48 hours and going at it solo! The art style/theming is great. I also found it really satisfying hunting down information to find a target as a gameplay mechanic and having it stored in a nifty HUD menu so I don't have to take paper notes. The game appears to be really well thought out and I'd be interested in playing it further if you ever decide to flesh it out further! As others have mentioned, I did have difficulty getting some relevant information a few times and I also wish the text was sped up to 2x or immediately presented via a setting tweak.

The Boxer's Pact: Fausts of Fury by ScalphaMission 2019-04-30T07:12:52Z

@squirmonkey Thanks for reporting that issue! There was a merge conflict before submission and an old scene slipped in unnoticed. If you are interested, the new build with the correct ending has been uploaded.

LudumDare 44 by SingularityOddity 2019-04-30T04:20:59Z

The gameplay was a little dark and I found myself spending more respawning than playing. In the time I was able to stay alive longer than five seconds it appeared that killing the orcs/trolls didn't refill enough ammo to continue playing after killing one or two. If you can increase the lighting and remove those sphere obstacles let me know so I can give it another shot!

An American Blood Clot in Techno Athens by Shuu 2019-04-30T14:55:31Z

Amazing game! The music and artwork were spot on and the controls felt extremely responsive. Overall the game is extremely well polished and it's amazing what you guys were able to accomplish in three days. Just add a couple more levels and I'd be willing to buy a commercial release of it!

A Hill To Die On by longbowrocks 2019-04-30T13:37:05Z

Great effort on your first project! The idea is really interesting and I think it would be a fun multiplayer game if you decided to expand upon the idea. I played a few times (took me twice to find the altar). It would be nice if the auction screen wasn't time based as it disappeared before I could read the instructions.

Faery Tales by Ryan Wine 2019-05-03T03:35:53Z

I like the implementation of the theme. It had me constantly analyzing whether it was worth attacking the enemy or just fleeing past them to stay alive. Assuming you made the assets everything looks really well done, except the foreground foliage which seemed to be a bit blurry.

Spring Piggy Break by Yuri Langowski 2019-04-30T05:03:17Z

Fun platformer considering the amount of time you had to work on it. I wasn't able to get past level where there are coins behind the hammer, but the ones up to that point were really fun.

Soul Toll by killscreen 2019-04-30T05:15:23Z

Nice take on a reverse Pac-Man game. That intro scene was golden! Adding some extra level layouts or some powerups that you spend Pac-souls on would have been great additions.

BraveBelly (Thiccboy hurdle jump sim) no download required by TomasMunro 2019-04-30T05:47:35Z

Orgain by Dziukoala 2019-04-30T16:19:51Z

The theme is intriguing and I really like the art style. I enjoyed playing the game, but couldn't get past harvesting the kidneys. The only issues I had was with the organ harvest portion. It was difficult to determine how to grab the organs or if I had one select. If you decide to continue working on it maybe add some feedback so the player knows that they are able to move them. I'd also recommend polishing up the shop as it was a little difficult to navigate. Overall great job for your first project!

LD45 — Start with nothing

Emoji by Ava Skoog 2019-10-08T18:26:04Z

I love the style and soundtrack choice for this game. It gives it an extremely relaxing/zen vibe. I would have liked the ability to zoom out once I had made a massive garden since the map was a static 20x20, but other then that I had no complaints.

You are Nothing by ectucker1 2019-10-09T21:10:29Z

It's amazing what you were able to accomplish with only ascii art, the wands are probably my favorite part. Looking at the picture I was expecting some low quality game, but was plesently surprised. The music was spot on as well.

Revolutionaries and Pixels by Hare Software 2019-10-09T19:37:38Z

The game is really well done and I appreciate the consistent art style. @james-vagabond covered the majority of my thoughts on where the game was lacking. I would be interested in playing a full release of this game if you happened to have a fleshed out storyline in mind.

Tiny Reactor by coffeecup.winner 2019-10-10T03:29:03Z

I played this game way longer than I intended and still didn't manage to get past 54 points. Super fun puzzle game!

Appeasing the Quadopus by dk5000p 2019-10-08T17:50:21Z

The game give me some Cuphead vibes which was fun. The voice acting was a little hard to hear during the narrative, but a welcomed addition since not many people tend not to add it.

I really enjoyed the concept and think it would be cool if you expanded upon it outside of the Jam. I was so focused on the dungeon building portion I didn't even consider I would actually have to traverse the map.

Stuff from click by PurpoAppo 2019-10-09T13:39:19Z

Thanks for rating our game.

At first, I wasn't sure if the game loaded since it starts as a white screen that you have to click on. The game has an interesting premise, though I didn't get very far since I ended up spawning carnivores that would wipe everything out. As others have stated the game is extremely abstract, but I think it's intuitive enough to progress. The only thing I would recommend is maybe standardizing on the animals and randomly generating them differently as I wouldn't have known what they were if I didn't read the comments first.

Faze by Xenoxygene 2019-10-09T15:18:17Z

I really enjoyed the style and concept of this game. The world generation was really well done.

Vegan Farmer by leorean 2019-10-09T14:59:44Z

Thanks for rating our game!

To start, I loved the art, animation, and music. Everything fit together really nicely. The game itself was fun, and just when I thought I was finished you threw another set of combinations at me. What a rollercoaster. In the end I would have been interested in seeing how many cows went in to making that avacado salad.

Great job, and thanks for the educational guide on where Avacodos come from.

No Food Nomads by ScalphaMission 2019-10-08T01:43:55Z

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

@purpoappo The randomness of the generation sometimes leads to unforgiving maps, however, if you prioritize methodical navigation you should be able to make it to the bottom for an alternative ending!

@pinosaur We were wanting to use something minimalistic so as to not take away from the room bordering. In hindsight we probably should have went for a black outline or something similar so it contrasted better.

@philomory In essence, the villagers are your spare lives. It may not have been noticable, but when you die you "become" one of the villagers and a grave is left. So you can choose to run all the way through, without giving a thought to food, but you will end up with less villagers at the end. There is no real consequence with whatever method you choose. If you are interested in playing for a challenge I'd recommend trying to reach the bottom with all 10 villagers alive.

No Food Nomads by ScalphaMission 2019-10-08T03:01:26Z

@alexander-crane There is a win condition if you manage to reach the bottom. Let us know how you do!

No Food Nomads by ScalphaMission 2019-10-09T15:01:49Z

@magnus-l I played your game and I can say without a doubt that your game has a way darker theme. That poor pumpkin baby...

@bredera Thanks!

@yubs Thanks!

No Food Nomads by ScalphaMission 2019-10-10T13:47:06Z

@lone-wolf @dundundun @keithswanger @xakkar Thanks!

@dib Themetically you should think of it as if you were the last survior. Since when your Foodie dies another member of the tribe takes their place. Congrats on reaching the bottom!

@porocyonak That was a design error. Originally we were planning on having an interactive tutorial which would guarantee 10 food on the first delve, however, time constraints and other issues got in the way. It's possible to get 10 and keep everyone alive as you reach the bottom, but it requires a bit of RNG to get the correct layout.

@scalliondelight Thanks for the feedback, we'll keep that in mind on our next entry.

No Food Nomads by ScalphaMission 2019-10-14T12:09:24Z

@taddl Thanks! The reason you have to select upgrades everytime is because we were originally going to have an inventory management element to the game. The idea was to make the player balance between taking relics and having enough inventory space to pick up rations for the other tribe members. However, due to time constraints we were unable to implement that feature. The emptiness was also an intentional design choice to demonstrate the Hollow being exhausted of resources and force the player to plan out what routes they would take in order to secure rations or plan on when they would return to the top. In light of those decisions did you have any recommendations on what would have made the future delve less boring?

@brandon-anderson Thanks for the feedback on the audio :)! If you are interested in future games you can follow us on itch.io [https://rainetheglutton.itch.io/ and/or https://scalphamission.itch.io/].

No Food Nomads by ScalphaMission 2019-10-16T04:00:20Z

Thanks for the feedback!

@ryuu The controls were a limitation of a second jam that we entered (Mini Jam 38) which required us to only use the arrow keys as controls. The wrap around you are describing was an unintended bug that we didn't notice until after the end of the Jam. Since it wasn't gamebreaking and still limited the player to two options we opted to not release a post-jam bugfix. Glad you enjoyed the game and were able to reach the bottom successfully. How many of your tribemates did you have remaining?

@alexascher Glad you enjoyed the game. Were you able to reach the bottom?

Soulless by Nithin 2019-10-09T13:55:51Z

Thanks for rating our game!

I played through the whole thing and enjoyed the variety of power-ups you had incorporated. The rocket jump brought back some fond memories of Doom and Quake. As others have mentioned the controls weren't fluid in some areas, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 72-hour jam. Great job!

Witchcraft: the Collecting by theufo 2019-10-09T21:31:50Z

Thanks for rating our game.

Great job on the art and animation. The game looks really well polished considering the time constraints. However, I wasn't hooked on the gameplay. The collection aspect was a neat idea, but I would have liked some idle game mechanics to go along with the clicker mechanics.

MerchantQuest by ItsBamboo 2019-10-09T16:02:21Z

While I really enjoyed this game the core mechanics could use a little balancing/refinement. Once I found out that you could buy an item and then sell it back to the same person for +2gold it kind of ruined the game for me. I ended up being able to beat the game through this method without utilizing any skills (outside of the initial pickpocket for the first item). I was hoping for each vendor to have specific buying/selling characteristics (randomly generated at the start, but static as you played) and for the game to rely a little more on the bartering system.

Also, I also think I found a bug where if you had more than one instance of an item in your inventory and sold it all instances would be removed but you would only get the gold for a single item.

All in all, great game for the 72 hour Jam!
