LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deeper & Deeper: Attorneys at Law by NvrSkipGameDay 2021-04-29T04:15:06Z

Man, I cracked up as soon as I saw the title and the rest of the game did not disappoint. Very well written and drawn, love the multiple endings, A stellar little visual novel. As far as complaints I only wish there was a bit more going on in the audio department (both music and sound effects) and it would be fun to see a more involved trial process, excited to see where Dee and Per Deeper go next!

Deep Delver by Daniel C 2021-04-28T02:31:04Z

The models were excellent and I loved the sound design overall. In it's current state it feels like it's lacking an interesting challenge for the player as you can just kind of drill and back up for falling rocks until you find the next hole. Also seconding @elmos-minion comment about improving the mineral mining, it's a bit finnicky in it's current state

Depth Orb by cogcomp 2021-04-29T20:41:22Z

Control of the ball felt really good, I had a lot of fun trying to blast dudes while bouncing through the air. The level had some nice variety of enemies and traps, which kept me playing through to the end. The mouse aim felt a little off from where my cursor was. I enjoyed the speed of the ball personally, I think you should play into it and really ramp up the action & intensity in future iterations!

The Squeaky Affair by bmacintosh 2021-04-29T21:36:14Z

Wow, was not expecting this to be a puzzle at first glance, a very welcome surprise once I started putting things together.

Absolutely loved the creativity of the design of the puzzles, as soon as I saw the thumbtack on the light-bulb I was like "They didn't!" but you did, you mad geniuses did.

The visuals, art, and sound were great as well, I cracked up at the newspaper articles and the "Hmm Interesting..." line every time.

Well Done!

The Rim by jokerbomb 2021-04-28T01:54:48Z

Love the setting and theme overall! The dialoque was especially well written. The pixel art was pretty good individually but didn't seem like it fit together. Music and sound worked reslly well the the tone and setting! The gameplay itself was pretty basic, it's fun to shoot at things for a little bit, but there's not really a whole lot to keep a player interested after the initial hook of the setting. Would love to see this world fleshed out more, hope you guys keep working at it!

Deep Sleep by Jakegames2 2021-04-28T02:51:20Z

A very fun little experience! Wonderful Pixel art, great sound design, and a great sense of chaos as all the little things start to go off. Well done!

One-Butt Alien Corridor by PeachTreeOath 2021-05-05T03:16:48Z

Really neat concept, very innovative! I like grenades as a get out of jail free card.

Feels like it really needs some sound and the time to move the aiming reticle is a bit slow (if that's intentional I would at least add some sort of visual indicator to show where it's moving towards).

Still it's really cool, hope you keep working on it and flesh it out some more!

Financial Depths by joh 2021-04-28T03:08:41Z

Very interesting game, a neat take on the theme, excellent presentation, and also somehow a great financial literacy tool?!

Diving Ball by sonicpixelation 2021-04-29T04:26:04Z

Great sound design, I love the pixel art (expecially for the diving helmet). I like the concept for the movement and I think it's really unique, but the game doesn't really use it in a very interesting way. I hope you'll expand on this a bit more, excited to see where it goes!

Craftmine by Cal 2021-04-28T19:19:40Z

Really fun! I love the effects when you're mining, it feels very satisfying. The pixel art is gorgeous as well. As far as complaints, it felt hard to read the range of enemies and my attack, there was also no pressure on the player to dig. The game is solid as is, but I feel like you could really ramp up the speed and craziness to make it something really special.

Dive by seanarooni 2021-04-29T04:31:44Z

Wow, I don't think I've encountered a game this jam with as unique of an aesthetic as this. Very trippy and weird, I love it! I wasn't really sure what the purpose of the actual gameplay was, but as an interactive art project I think it works, though it was over quite quickly.

Reza's Story by Herrybiscuit 2021-04-28T02:11:19Z

Neat little story, I loved the pop-up storybook style presentation and I found the character designs quite interesting. I loved the effect at the beginning would be cool if there were more of these kinds of strange twists throughout the experience, but a lot of it was pretty simple item fetching. A small dot crosshair would go a long way as well as making the garden section easier do without accidentally dropping the watering can. The music really matched the tone of the game and I found myself captivated enough to see Reza's story through to the end!

Ore Lord by dimlight 2021-04-29T05:36:29Z

This game is rad! Once you get to the lower levels it is just a crazy wacky good time. The art is really solid, the music and sound work together to provide a lot of good feedback for the player. I was really shocked at the amount of variety you had for weapons, enemies, etc. Crazy good, nice job!

(Also I noticed your Balance values are a little low, you should get out there and rate some games so more people can discover this bad boy!)

Billy's Gone Again by KingOfNova 2021-04-30T03:53:58Z

Charming pixel art and a great visual style. Controls are tight and the weapons feel great and have a nice amount of oomph to them. The overall structure outside of the combat felt a bit basic, but you've got a great foundation to build off of. Excited to see where this goes after the jam!

Baby's First Concussion by Roolow 2021-04-29T20:35:24Z

Very nice art, and the concept was really interesting! The control in the air and the close-up nature of the camera led to some frustrating deaths. I hope you play around more with this concept, I think it could be really great with some more polish!

Deepest Dungeon by Almighty Games 2021-04-27T04:27:04Z

From a visual standpoint, it looks quite good and the few sound effects work well to create an atmosphere of tension. I also thought the traps were neat and really matched the whole theme. From a gameplay perspective, it's pretty basic and I found myself getting turned around quite often in the dungeons and I gave up after spending a solid 7 minutes trying to get through the first level, it just feels hard to orient yourself. This might be fine if that was the point, but I didn't feel like I really got anything out of the experience other than frustration. Just to reiterate though, the visuals and tone are excellent and I love the inclusion of a real options menu! (a rarity for a jam game)

Post Ghost by Luizamuller 2021-04-30T04:19:02Z

Love the cozy aesthetic, beautiful game overall!

The mechanic is interesting and whenever I was able to deliver a letter it was a lot of fun, but the pace was a bit too slow for me, I want to deliver more letters instead of dodging obstacles!

Aside from that the controls felt great and I really liked the light-hearted music. I think it's a neat game, hope you keep working on it!

Y-Sokombanator by --0 2021-04-27T04:44:40Z

Absolutely brilliant mechanic to layer Sokoban puzzles within one-another! Also really enjoyed the relaxing layered music. The text on the side is a neat idea to quickly give people some hints, unfortunately the color combination (black on grey) is tough to read and the text is quite small. Also these puzzles are tough! I only got through a few of them. But again, love the concept, I think there's a lot of places you can take it, hope to see more updates post-jam!

Decisive Maneuver by bernard-bumblebutt 2021-05-01T04:29:49Z

An elegantly designed experience. Controls are intuitive and responsive. The music and sound really create a great atmosphere of tension as you try to navigate through the mines.

My only gripe is that sonar feels a bit too useful and I was able to see almost every mine with it up to the next depth mark.

That being said, it's a stellar game, I played a few times to try to to get to the top of the leaderboard but alas, I am only a mere mortal 😭.

Nav's Endless Nightmare by Zizhen96 2021-04-30T03:20:23Z

Gorgeous pixel art, tight controls, and great sound, a very well rounded little game. My only wish is that there was more going on with the gameplay. However, what's here has been polished to a mirror sheen. Well done!

We need gold! by Ninsky 2021-05-01T17:14:16Z

Glad to see this one is working!

Interesting concept, I liked the feel of placing a bomb and then having to frantically dig away from it before it explodes! Visually the game really captures that retro aesthetic and has some very nice pixel art (aside from a few assets that seem like they were intended to be placeholders).

The sound felt a little out of place to me, I expected some more arcadey effects but they were pretty realistic and a little loud.

I think the idea is pretty sound but just needs some more iteration and tweaking to get it to a place where it can really shine!

BashRL by luddegodofpain 2021-04-29T21:21:26Z

Awesome game! I loved the aesthetic and had a lot of fun traversing through the server. A really neat take on rogue-like in a CLI. Hope you keep working on it and expand it more!

(Also thank you for implementing tab complete! a lot of game terminals miss it but it's such a big part of my muscle memory, it feels wrong when it's not there)

Dig Deaper by wigglewigglestudios 2021-04-30T03:39:35Z

Neat concept, but it's weighed down by the brutal progression. With some tuning I think it could be quite fun, but I found myself losing interest pretty quickly. I hope that you'll keep polishing it and participate in future jams!

1000 Fathoms by Dom De Re 2021-04-27T04:31:11Z

I loved the visuals and the frantic game-play of repairing holes. Seems like this would be a great co-op experience (not sure if you intended for it to be or just for one person similar to Brothers A Tale of 2 Sons). The abstract pixel art looks wonderful (I especially love how the ship fills with water). I just wish the itch version had a larger screen size!

2 Leagues At Dawn by Radiotrophia 2021-04-28T03:00:09Z

Wonderful presentation, interesting mechanic and control system, A very neat little experience. If I had one complaint it would be that there's not much for the player to do other than work the levers and kind of lazily avoid jelly fish, which makes the experience drag a bit as it goes on. Excellent work though overall!

Nice Fall by Nice Gear Games 2021-05-05T03:29:54Z

Played both versions, I like the improvements you made, They make it a lot easier for the player to parse what is happening. I really liked the retro sounds and music, and the pixel art really fit the tone you were going for as well. Overall, I think it's a fun game for what it is, it just feels like it needs a little more spice.

Inferno Dominus by Klyaddus 2021-04-30T03:26:25Z

Congrats on getting through you first Ludum Dare! Obviously there's not much of a game here but it does look gorgeous! The concept looks cool so I hope you take some more time to work on bringing it to life and participate in more jams!

Haunted Pizza Delivery by msipp27 2021-05-05T03:40:50Z

I like the art for this one, it has a very fun quality to it! I like the speed of restarting it really helps the player stay in the zone. As far as criticism goes, I think the platforming needs some more work (I also got stuck on walls at in-opportune times as it seems many others did and felt the hitboxes were a bit too punishing) and the music loops a bit too quickly. It seems like you had a neat idea, just didn;t have time to execute on it, I hope you'll put some more work in after the jam!

Deep Dig Pizza by Brandon Garcia 2021-05-01T04:20:01Z

Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful feedback!

I'm currently working my way down the list to play your games so I can return the favor!

(No guarantees I'll be able to get to everyone but I'll try my best)

Brain Dive by ForestOfCode 2021-04-28T02:22:23Z

The concept is interesting but the implementation definitely feels half-baked. Having no sound both makes it less interesting and makes it harder for the player to have feedback about what's going on. Also I didn't really understand what was going on with the boss at the end. I hope you take some time to improve on this concept and take these learnings into your next game!

Deeply Dazed by HangerGames 2021-04-30T04:34:34Z

Really unexpected entry, the concept is incredibly unique and something I wouldn't have thought of in a million years.

The art is wonderfully clean and minimalistic and really let's the interesting shape patterns shine. It took me a while to wrap my head around but eventually things started to click.

A great puzzle game and a stunning entry for what seems like your first Ludum Dare, great job!

Deep Sleep by Link270 2021-05-01T16:27:13Z

Excellent visual style, the environment felt appropriately dream-like (and in some instances actually quite scary) and had some nice touches of post-processing. I actually didn't struggle that much with the puzzles and though they were a bit short, they fit the theme of the story quite well.

My only nit-pick would be the text at the bottom of the screen, the placement didn't feel quite right and I found my attention drifting away from it while taking in the cool environments (Perhaps they could be integrated somehow?)

Overall though, I thought it was a wonderful little game and had a surprisingly poignant message!

Sleepy Trouble by Stevi60 2021-05-01T04:10:08Z

Gorgeous pixel art and the central mechanic was very unique! The platforming felt really tight and was very well-tuned. I also really loved the audio cue when you start to run low on spirit energy, nice touch!

As far as complaints go, the penalty for failure(restarting the whole game) is a bit harsh and could be softened, the keyboard controls felt a bit awkward to me, and the lack of color made platforms hard to read against the background.

All that said I think there's a lot more potential in this mechanic than was tapped in the jam and I look forward to seeing where y'all take it!

Salvage Quest by Rovernoon 2021-05-01T16:05:14Z

Neat little game. I liked the simple colors and shapes for all the art (though the fish look a bit strange). The game feel here is really good, firing the torpedoes and looting feel especially satisfying to do.

I like the concept of the flashlight but I wish you leaned into it more by having dark areas where it's your only source of light. Also as others have said there currently isn't much of a goal for the player so it fizzles a bit once you do a few mines.

That said, I think this is a very strong foundation and there's a lot of places you can take it from here, nice job!

The deepest curse by Bobafett89 2021-04-29T04:57:12Z

I didn't know what to expect starting this game, but I was pleasantly surprised by the tight platforming and variety of mechanics! I was really getting into a groove when I hit the life limit which is a shame, I feel like the game would be a lot better without it. I also feel like the placement of the buttons could use a rethink (climbing up with space and left shift for dash in particular). Overall though I love the platforming, I hope you expand on it more and make more of these crazy levels!

Turtruckin' by eharp 2021-04-30T04:05:16Z

Really like the concept, it was pretty funny trying to get the orders together. The controls were definitely awkward and unconventional (Which seemed like the intent) which created some moments of chaos.

I would only suggest bounding the hands to separate side of the play area to make it easier for the player to mentally map the controls and avoid switching sides(which caused a bit of a headache for me).

Definitely a very unique game, excited to see where it goes after the jam!

ASTEROID SHOWER by EV3R4 2021-04-28T03:15:14Z

The presentation is absolutely stellar and really harkens back to that classic retro style(I especially like the different colors and the optional scan lines!). I found the perspective a bit challenging to wrap my brain around, though the game is still quite fun in spite of it, great job!

Crystal Mites by Dan Fornace 2021-04-27T05:07:47Z

If there were an award for most amount of "Damn-its" this game would be the all-time back-to-back champion. The simple aesthetic hides some truly devious platforming that is both incredibly fun and will make you tear your hair out as your bouncy boy ricochets off the wall into spikes. Outside of that, the music is bopping and the pixel art is very clean. One of the best games I've played so far in the jam if you can get over the difficulty!

Taaanks! by Squerf 2021-04-28T19:26:26Z

Wonderful aesthetic and style! The game is clean and reads well and the movement of the tank and the arc of the shot feel just right. Terrain modification was also a fun touch! As others have said, controls feel quite awkward at first, but they do start to become more intuitive as you play(I just wish I could move independently from aiming). There's not a whole lot to it but this feels like a solid foundation for something interesting, hope that you keep working on it after the jam!

Drill Co. by Pieter Visser 2021-04-29T05:23:26Z

The controls felt a little strange and I it seemed like the game just kind of stopped when I ran out fuel. I liked the art though and it was fun to fly the little dude around!

(Also I would recommend you prioritize support keyboard + mouse for future jam games, not everyone has a controller they can whip out)

Hope to see you work on the game some more and participate in more jams!
