Nice take on Super Mario x Inception. The controls felt a bit floaty/clunky, but otherwise a solid, funny and enjoyable game. Nicely done!
Loved your creativity. The jump sound effect was not my favourite after grinding out a few levels. I enjoyed playing the game, thanks for sharing!
I really like the concept. The controls made it a little too difficult to play the whole way through and occasionally when I'd wake up I'd lose complete control of the character.
Thanks! @zoarfy yeah sound effects are a big weakness of mine, I usually use bxfr and don't do any real processing. But I'm glad you still enjoyed it!
@negabyte Ah yeah after the deadline I noticed that bug happens sometimes. I'm honestly clueless as to how its caused, my level switching code is quite complex. Thank you for playing!
I really liked the idea you had here and the art was cute! The visual presentation of going down a level and seeing the next level in the background was also really neat! Unfortunately I really struggled with the controls due to only having control of momentum on the ground, so I wasn't able to get that far in the game, but still a good submission!
Very nice art, and the concept was really interesting! The control in the air and the close-up nature of the camera led to some frustrating deaths. I hope you play around more with this concept, I think it could be really great with some more polish!
Nice! I actually managed to beat it by a very narrow margin (on the way back up the snakes were about to eat me both times). Really neat concept that perfectly fits the theme. I think it would have been better with a more Inception-like theme instead of the baby one, and the movement could be better (generally avoid slow acceleration for platformers, it makes jumping sideways feel real bad). Overall great job though!
Really cool idea! Controls felt really clunky though, specifically horizontal movement during jumps
Nice take on Mario! I loved the inception concept. Only one thing I didn't enjoy was the movement (It was a bit floaty and slow so jumping sideways was hard at times).
The first thing that sticks out is obviously the name. I laughed when I read it and was immediately intrigued. Then I started playing and fell in love with the concept. Going deeper into a sort of new "level" when you hit the I thought was neat. Then I realized that there was a timing aspect to all of it because the snakes didn't stop moving while you were in the deeper level. I really enjoyed playing this and love everything about it!
Very cool idea. I like how the pixel art is simple and clear
Fun concept. Controls could be tightened up a bit, but love the baby sprite. Glad he's okay!
On the controls: @flatgub @jaiden-gerig @j-kyle @lukeydev @sam-bigos @bamallama I was spending the morning of the first day tuning the platforming controls. I ended up with something very floaty that seems to be pretty divisive. But thank you guys for sticking with it. And to those who beat it, I'm impressed, I know it was difficult. I'll definitely give more air control next time, and perhaps show up to the jam with a template for a 2D platformer!
On the theme: @lukeydev @sam-bigos @refrax295 Yeah you guys nailed it, I was totally riffing on inception. It's subtle, but you may have even noticed that time slows down in the upper levels the deeper you go. Given more time I would've loved to take this to even further, perhaps I will continue to work on it. Thank you!
On the art: @flatbub @arturgiardi @jaiden-gerig Thanks! I'm trying to get better with pixel art. I used Aseprite, and had some obvious inspirations :) Something I tried differently this time was to grab palettes off of https://colorhunt.co/ instead of coming up with them myself, and that seems to have been effective!
@breadstix I'm very flattered and happy that you loved it!
@j-kyle Yes, the baby is ok! However....not to get too technical, but YOU are the one who kept making him hit his head :)
Agree with the others here, controls definitely need to be tighter. Other than that though, I loved the concept and enjoyed playing this. I got 3 levels of inception deep and then got frustrated with the controls. Baby sprite was adorable and the snakes looked good too! Great entry!
very cool game, i liked trying to balance between all the levels at once. and the art is cute. i found this weird bug: ScreenShot 2021-05-02 at 3.41.54 pm.png
@kiptok bwhoa! big baby! Yes I've seen some strange bugs that have occured during the transitions between levels, the most complicated part in the code, and I failed to lock that one down. Sorry you were unfortunate enough to land on it. Out of the dozens of times I played I think I only saw it twice. Thanks for reporting it and for playing!
What a fun idea for a game, and it works well too if it wasn't for the movement... The super slow acceleration of the character made it so hard to control... If you fix that to make this platformer feel like a proper platformer I think it would be super cool! Keeping track of layer after layer, dodging snakes... Really cool!
Well done!
Fun idea, and I'm wondering how you implemented it, it must have been quite a challenge for the compo ! I think the physics of the character could be improved to make the game more enjoyable to play, currently some jumps that should be easy are really frustrating to do. But other than that, cool concept !
Great concept. Really impressive compo entry you got there. As others said: the movement and jumping feels a bit floaty, but it's ok for a baby I guess. The difficulty is a tad too high. Unfortunately the game crashed once I got 2 levels deep. Nonetheless, good stuff. Had fun!
That's an incredibly interesting idea. Horizontal acceleration was a little tricky so I didn't manage to get too far. I did manage to get 3 levels deep before dying. That title + story concept is absolutely hilarious.
the idea and the graphics are great, but controls are very clunky.
I loved the baby sprite hahah also, the "inception" idea is great and matches very well with the theme. I reached the third level, I think. Would be nice if the time froze in the first layer of the game while you are in the second one, like you're in a dream or something. The thing I'd point out to maybe adjust in the future is the physics, felt too hard to land where I wanted sometimes. Overall, great job!
Hey man, great idea for a game. The mechanic of go in and out are very cool, graphics are very cute and the sprites are matching! Few things for the future: add some music, to work a little bit more with the jump physics, I can only do a good jump when im taking speed, and sometimes I dont have paltform enough for that! And other thing, I dont know if its suposed to be like that, but when Im on the first layer and touches on that yellow block to go to another layer. When im on the first layer sometimes I die because of the creature, and obviously I cant move because Im on the second layer. Maybe to freeze the layer that your not playing to not die. Good job with the game, very good work! =)
@Jrevel @zubspace @wizard-sino Yeah I agree, I should've given more in air acceleration, because it relies too much on momentum and it makes it really hard. I don't think the difficulty there added anything. But thanks for playing and for your feedback!
Leonardo Dicaprio will like it :) Concept is nice but it is too difficult to manage dreams for me after 3 levels.
@villanelle I'm glad you liked the sprite! <<< I liked it too obviously...
@villanelle @felo07 I actually purposefully do not pause time in the layer above, but rather slow time down....just like inception! You're able to go back up to another layer with CTRL to avoid the snakes, then hit the block to continue where you left off. Most agree this thing was too hard! Thanks for playing!
I got serious Inception vibes from this! Love the concept - my only major gripe is the slow horizontal acceleration, it was most likely a creative choice but not exactly my cup of tea.
@alprog Too difficult? Don't be such a baby. OK...I didn't really give you a choice. I and everyone else agree this was too hard! But thanks for giving it a try.
neat and funny idea! definitely gets a bit tricky to keep track of the different levels once you start getting deeper.
I really liked the art, and the transition between sections of the level when you hit the block is pretty cool. The controls could use some work though, even just adding some more air control would help a lot. Maybe making it a bit less floaty as well.
(Didn't mean to be anonymous)
Really innovative! I was going to say it was a bit hard/unforgiving but then the game ended. So it was actually a well balanced challenge. My only feedback is had you googled video for better platforming controls on unity you probably could have tweaked it so it felt much better to control with pretty minimal effort. Not being able to adjust my position in air much was frustrating. But good unity platforming controls is a problem that’s been solved, so next time you do a project like this just spend like <1 hour researching and implementing and it will make it way more fun to play.
Still I really enjoyed and appreciated this game. Great job!
Very original idea! Clever how you represent sleep levels by zoom levels. I do think the main action is a bit too much zoomed in for my tastes. The jump control is counterintuitive, which will not work for a game of this scope and size, as it takes time getting used to.
I really liked the idea behind the game. Maybe a way to lengthen it a bit could be that in each reality plane you can somehow change something about the previous one (eg. kill the snake, open a door etc...). This could mix more each reality plane with the others (eg. you have to avoid a snake but the passage is too narrow, you change reality plane to kill it... but in that reality the thing that can kill the snake is behind a door so you change the reality plane to open the door...).
The jump action is a bit frustrating in the beginning, but after a while I got used to it. The jump sound effect was a bit louder than the others... if a player has to listen to the same sound again and again try adjusting the volume in a way that it doesn't go over the other sounds (this is just my opinion).

Interesting concept, the air movement felt a bit iffy, but liked trying to plan around the snake moves on multiple levels.
