| Apr 16 23:38:35 | Ordinary Wizards Doing Ordinary Things | ♥ 1 | The animations are so cute! That's the first thing I noticed. When that person sat happily on his unclogged toilet, I thought it was adorable. Overall the game feels nice to play - responsive, fast, smooth. I was a bit confused at the very start because I am bad at reading instructions before playing. But I liked the format in which introduction/tutorial was made, fitting the visual atmosphere of the game. Visually, I like how everything is cute and cartoonish, that's really one of my favourite drawing styles ^^' And how the models are tiny, too. It looks good and fun and cozy. Music and sounds are good as well, very energetic! In terms of difficulty, as I remember you made it too difficult at first - I found it pretty easy as of now (I don't mind it tho, it's still dynamic and fun). On my third try (first I died because was still figuring it out and couldn't send my wizards anywhere and second I didn't realize what do demons do xD), when I finally caught up with the rules (scrolling down sometimes to read a snippet from description) I was victorious. They summoned me to claim the trophy, I sent lots of guys there and then got told I am amazing <3 fupi2.jpg I think it's a fun idea and fits the theme really well, too. Definitely high in humour for me! I love attention to detail with tiny items, animations of different jobs ^^ *Also this are the stats I won with: fupi.jpg | |
| Apr 17 00:07:09 | 28m 34s | Dark Roast Cafè | ♥ 2 | First of all, the art is gorgeous. Just everything: style, palette, the UI, portraits, furniture. It's very pleasant to look at. The music creates a great atmosphere, so game feels relaxing. In terms of gameplay, I think I was a bit confused. It felt like I am endlessly greeting the esteemed spider guests, but they are quite comfortable just staying near entrance saying their greetings and are not too interested in my coffee or anything. The bar for greetings was filling up again and again, and nothing really happened. darkroast.jpg Then I scrolled through the comments here and realized about the table. I actually tried buying one, but the more expensive one, and for some reason after that completely scratched the table-buying idea xD darkroast2.jpg I got the cheaper table, thankfully still had money for that, but spiders weren't too impressed still :( Finally, I realized that because I clicked on the table AFTER opening the cafe, it was considered UN-placed again by the game. I made sure not to touch the table on the screen anymore and YAY, that spider tea-time was heartwarming <3 darkroast3.jpg Took me a bit to get the hang of it, but the atmosphere of the game is so inviting and relaxing that I stuck around to figure everything out. Great job! ^-^ |
| Apr 17 00:30:28 | 23m 19s | Summoned at 2 | ♥ 2 | That was a really fun experience ^^ Most of all I love the art. Just as fabulous as in the previous Ludum Dare. That iced coffee looked so enticing I couldn't help but choose it over some poki sticks. (Found it ironic I still have to attend a zoom meeting, now for mourning...damn.) The atmosphere is chill and relaxing, as the flow of the game is slow and music fits the vibe. So it's easy to relax and spend more time hanging out in this game. I checked out all the days in my calendar and messed with some other objects as well :) Overall the way the game is presented, animation, little emotions on the glasses person, e-mails - looks neat and thought out. The little "mini-games" are cool too. I have to admit I got way too excited about opening sugar packages xD Candles got me confused for a second (Huh? Electric candles? I am living in stone age over here...) However, sometimes I had troubles activating the objects to interact. I feel like some activation zones and animations worked with varying success. At my second playthrough attempt I got completely stuck on sugar =\ fabi.jpg Also, with dialogue windows - when I clicked my mouse again, the new dialogue opened up while previous was still typing itself out. I am used to visual novels where clicking a mouse just makes the whole text box appear at once without typing itself out gradually. So maybe that's on me, but I had to adjust a bit with my impatience! :D |
| Apr 17 00:52:31 | 22m 03s | Faemori | ♥ 3 | Art style, music, sound effects, some character design - everything made me think of old Zelda and Pokemon games, and for me that's always a huuuge plus. The execution of the minion mechanic is neat and comfortable, and I love all the cute creatures. Animation and visual effects were great too. Overall it's cute and relaxing, and I like that we can retry a fight right away instead of having a gameover and being thrown out into the beginning of the game (tbh that's what I kinda expected!) At some point, it was pretty fun figuring out a better choice & placement to win a round (I mean, when it got bit harder, as at first our minions are pretty much wiping the enemy out ^^) I noticed elements of my minions not straight away, didn't immediately realize one is a healer (he was standing doing nothing however, so that was a clue, and then there was animation with a heart of him healing other minion, so it's not completely hidden from the player or anything). Maybe just a short description on minion types in the beginning would be helpful <3 To be honest, I didn't find healer type particularly helpful here, though maybe it works with another approach to playstyle :) They heal a bit but that doesn't change much (as far as I can tell w/o seeing the stats), and if they are the only left alive, they can't really defend themselves, it seems. Just chillin watching eye showdown: eyes.jpg :D |
| Apr 17 01:11:59 | 19m 28s | Idea Catcher——Summoning Tools | ♥ 4 | Very cute puzzle game, love the graphics and smooth gameplay. The main menu is honestly pretty cool. The puzzle mechanic is fun and executed in an interesting way ^-^ |
| Apr 17 01:33:55 | 21m 56s | Back to Life | ♥ 1 | Also didn't figure out what to do straight away, but reread the rules again, thought a bit and realized what to do. After that I quickly got first three objects crossed out and I gotta say it was so cute to watch them come to life! <3 broughttolife.jpg However, after that I looked around carefully, checked everything, tried to fit some phrases... to no avail. The only line I thought was fitting anything in the room was sunlight (and I think key line for keyboard). Tried to put "bottom" on empty mug as well. Other lines just didn't hold enough clues for me, but even these three didn't do the trick. sunlight.jpg Also, I downloaded the game because web build I don't really recommend for anyone else playing. It's much more comfortable to play downloaded version. + in web build camera kept snapping back to one point, making it harder to look around. I didn't encounter such problems in downloaded version. I am really curious about the rest of the story but unfortunately it seems I can't progress anymore ;_; |
| Apr 17 01:48:29 | 14m 34s | Imagining Dragons | ♥ 2 | The backgrounds in boss fights are absolutely adorable. As is the whole game, to be honest. It has such cozy and sweet atmosphere! The dragon itself looks gorgeous. I wasn't too good at side-scroller part, so first two bosses sucked me in pretty much right away. On my third try I actually almost completed the side-scroller part and got some power-ups, because of that the third boss fight felt much easier than the second! :D cute.jpg Overall it was a very pleasant experience, however I think the fights went on a bit too long with a lot of clicking so it started feeling more like a clicker game :) That's my only complaint, I think ^^ |
| Apr 17 03:03:50 | 1h 15m | Bergmål | ♥ 4 | I feel you, I also was a bit too ambitious this time and couldn't complete everything I wanted, rushed to make the game at least "completable" in literal last minutes before deadline. I really liked your previous LD entry so subbed to get notified of your new projects ^^ So happy to see this one is horror style as well. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the way the game looked and characters moved. It all, with sound design, contributed to an uneasy feeling you want in a horror. I was suspecting Kim all the time, however ending was so abrupt I am not sure what to think and what happened (I remember being confused in the end of that train game as well ^^') The take on the theme is pretty neat, and who doesn't love a little murder mystery? Though I didn't seem to be able to use dialogues in my deductions, only details from photos. Might be one of those things you had to cut because of project being too ambitious, just felt a bit confusing as the game was suggesting to use text as well. At the same time, it still feels like a complete game, just with an abrupt ending that is normal for horror and opens a path to interpretations (other murderer, not from the friend group, now coming for all of them, or Kim attacking their friends, etc etc) |
| Apr 17 19:18:21 | 16h 14m | Latte and the Last Summoning | ♥ 1 | Oh I was hoping I can rate this one! In my opinion you could definitely still submit it as Jam Game, even if unfinished, because from my experience this amount of work done is perfectly fine for a submission. I saw it as three short levels, just a short phrase like "Level finished" after finding the bird would be enough to tell me I completed the game. We all had only 3 days, of course it's challenging to finish everything, especially if you work alone <3 sky1.jpg I didn't read your post before playing so figured the Z control by myself. Then climbed high in the sky :) sky2.jpg And I completed all three levels. To be honest, I really liked it! My favourite part is flight animation. The run animation is cute as well. I love the artstyle and I found the gameplay to be quite fun and have a lot of potential! |
| Apr 17 19:37:28 | 19m 07s | Emperor's Gems | ♥ 2 | I remember playing your game in previous Jam! This one immediately grabbed my attention with cute graphics. The game was so chill I didn't realize there was a time limit and failed xD carrier.jpg I was too concentrated on my carriers and collecting mana and was having a relaxing journey x) Even made me think a little about one board game I liked, Tokaido. There you also go through one road, and it's also relaxing (gameplay is quite different though). The atmosphere in your game is really nice, if it didn't have time limit, I would love that xD But of course many players might have different opinion (I am personally just not a fan of time limits tbh! especially in such relaxing games x)) Also, the take on the theme is quite unique in my opinion, and the game idea feels fresh. I enjoyed my playthrough ^-^ |
| Apr 17 20:04:54 | 27m 26s | Time for Pie! | ♥ 1 | I was so excited for a cooking game I blew off the dust from my controller which thankfully is an Xbox one! It worked, though I felt a bit confused about controls. It doesn't really say which button I have to press on d-pad, for example. Just the whole d-pad. *UPD: I noticed one direction is slightly more gray than others. It helped. But for the future I suggest making it more obvious, maybe highlighting in colour? Also, I found it peculiar that main menu doesn't seem to respond to any controller input, and there I have to click with a mouse ^^' On my third try, I managed to make 1 pie but it disappeared so quickly I didn't have time to screenshot :') 1pie.jpg Actually, I found the game very fun. I am very biased because I love baking, but the fact the I had to challenge myself a bit, click the combinations fast (especially when I am used to nintendo switch layout now and not xbox one!) - that was really fun! Thank you for the game <3 |
| Apr 17 23:59:24 | 3h 54m | Deadly Roots | ♥ 1 | That's a nice concept with the towers and different types of units. The art is interesting and fitting as well. I really liked the sound of crystal-collecting, it's very pleasing. Overall sound is pretty good! deadlyroots.jpg I did complete the game, also felt it was a bit slow at first but then started using speedboost so it went faster :) |
| Apr 18 13:18:06 | 13h 18m | Realm Rumble! | ♥ 2 | For me the best part was that the game reminded me of the time long long ago when I played Warlord II on MS-DOS. The general idea of having our city and their city (or wizard tower in this case), creating places that spawn units, then upgraded unit... I am deeply nostalgic about Warlord and loved it so much that this resemblance made me quite happy. Then, the art: the characters design is my favourite part. They look great! Obviously you only had 3 days and kept the background simple, but if you continue working on it in the future, I would love to see a more updated background, maybe with some animation, like flow of the water or rustle of the trees. I love the colour of the river though, and little stones in it. And of course some little adventures/powerups/secrets our units could find on the map would be neat. There I am just day dreaming about Warlord again, to be honest (though I have to note that in Warlord I was in charge of my troops, and here they have their own opinions because of the set path). Anyway these are just suggestions for the future, as for what the game is right now - I think it's neat, even if a bit slow. As I said, character design & character art, pretty river and Warlord vibes are my favourite parts of it. My favourite unit: chillin.jpg |
| Apr 18 13:28:19 | 10m 13s | Cat Summoning Puzzle | ♥ 1 | I love the puzzle vibes here, and reminded me of a story with the wolf and sheep that need to be transferred across the river :) I wish we could revise the previous statements about the cats preferences when the third round rolls around ^^' As I expected each round to have different rules, I didn't think to keep in mind rules from previous ones :') cats.jpg Yay! That was delightful. I love cats, the game looks cozy, and the music is sweet <3 P.S. Though, is congradulations a typo or some word play I am missing? >_> |
| Apr 18 19:39:50 | 6h 11m | Sigil | ♥ 1 | Really liked previous two entries, back again for gorgeous art! The puzzle itself reminded me of sudoku puzzles my mom does sometimes. Choosing to play a puzzle in the end of a work day wasn't my best idea... It felt too complicated for my brain to process at the moment. But I tried my best! :D I did feel a bit confused about placement sometimes (I didn't get to any blue numbers so only used red sigil every time) For example, here I felt like I should have checked all the boxes (I drew the lines from each 1 showing there is a mark on that line, and yellow circles show where I places my sigil) puzzlewuppos.jpg My horrible sudoku-solving skills aside, I like the atmosphere of the game. It looks pretty, and relaxing. The mechanics are interesting in my opinion, they feel unique in their own right and fit the theme well ^^ *Edit: I actually didn't realize I had my timer app on with thunder sounds and thought it was in-game sound. It fit soooo well :) |
| Apr 18 22:42:25 | 3h 02m | Luminth | ♥ 3 | I really like the concept of this game. Exploring something, in a sense, "with closed eyes" - that's always an exciting experience. The music and dialogue lines added to an unsettling (in a good way) atmosphere which I really liked. Art is interesting, however I felt like many colours were clashing (partly because of their high saturation), which creates a more chaotic general image and less tied-together style. The monster and the lanterns are absolutely beautiful, main character's design is simple and effective, but if you continue developing this game, I would love to see a more thought-out palette. I had fun looking for a path, though didn't feel like fish were always helpful: no path.jpg I feel like they should be "guiding" me upwards here, but there seems to be no path, the character can't go forward. Maybe I misunderstood something about fish guidance (and yes, it is a "new" light) Overall, these are just little details to give you ideas what could be improved, but in short, this game is pretty cool! ^-^ |
| Apr 19 15:02:45 | 16h 20m | The Dank Sorceress | ♥ 1 | Wow, that's a pretty cool use of RenPy! I wouldn't even guess you used it :) However, at one point I accidentally scrolled the mouse wheel up and it took me back some battle steps, and that's when I remembered it's RenPy. So keep that in mind if you make some adjustments, RenPy still considers it a visual novel that can be scrolled back. Overall, it reminded me of Heroes of Might and Magic, though some aspects of combat felt a bit different. So that was a nice dose of nostalgia. Also, the rock music is fantastic :) I wasn't entirely sure if I understood the story - did the mask make her evil? (To be fair, I just woke up recently after a deadline, so might just be my comprehension skills right now and not your writing) You call it programmer art, but I can clearly see by the sorceress you know anatomy very well :D I am still learning to draw better so noticed that immediately. Imo, that's some really productive work for a compo! ^^ |
| Apr 19 15:36:16 | 33m 31s | Moving In and Moving On | ♥ 4 | As I love writing comments while playing, saying right away that I absolutely love the animation of the hat on the MC. The music is also lovely. Then, I checked the engine you used and felt impressed as I am not a very proficient programmer myself and struggled to make a good dialogue system in GameMaker :) But I also had that problem with walking over assets: walkover.jpg I remember then, in my GameMaker game, I solved it with brute force by using transparent blocks. Looking at assets and the overall mechanics, I would say RPG Maker MV could also be a good engine for this game. While a bit restricting, it would allow you to do the same things and in an easier way, leaving you more time for development :) Also, I noticed these buttons on dialogue window that don't seem clickable: buttons.jpg If it's just part of design, I feel like it can be confusing for a player to have unactive buttons :') Really nice voiceover, always such a treat to hear some voiceover in jam games! The singing is beautiful ^^ Dog spirit is also adorable. I could "take the rope" from the tree again after talking to Butler. That activated rope-themed dialogue with Butler for 2nd time. However, it didn't affect my quest and he accepted my cleaning efforts. Also, I think it would be neat if looking at lady's portrait after learning who she is from Butler changed dialogue a bit. Though it still works as is. I think, when we get to these dialogue lines, it's better to hide baroness's sprite and leave just the MC: sprite.jpg Door of the music room is a bit buggy to get through, you have to go a bit up: buggydoor.jpg Finally, it would be neat to have some picture/still/words before credits to wrap it up carefully <3 Now, for my OVERALL THOUGHTS: This game is so sweet! I enjoyed playing it a lot. Excuse me for a long comment, but I liked it so much that I wish to be helpful in upgrading it after Jam ^-^ If you ever do a polished version, maybe with 100% of only your own visual assets, I would love to try it again! The story is nice and simple, at the same time touching, but I can see a lot of opportunities to expand it. The main character is likeable, and it also makes me want to continue getting to know her in her future adventures. Thank you for the game! Great entry! <3 |
| Apr 19 16:54:57 | 1h 18m | Cosmic Misadventures | ♥ 0 | Really cool effect for the main menu! I played a few levels myself and watched whole playthrough on Tobugis's stream. That's such an impressive entry for compo! I love all the cutscenes, and music, and art is fantastic. Also it's nice how I can try fitting the characters on the board however long I want to, with no punishment for wrong placement. I noticed there is an opportunity to "cheat" the placement, not sure if that should be allowed by code? samebox.jpg As you can see, these two overlap. Overall, that was such a good entry and I am happy I got to learn about it ^^ |
| Apr 19 17:17:12 | 22m 15s | Call The Abyss | ♥ 2 | I thought the way of showing tutorial as graffiti on the road is really cool :) I like the unusual gameplay where I have to move keeping in mind the placement of minion to make them fight the enemies, while I have to collect items with MC. That makes it more interesting and makes you more concentrated on the game. The art of minions and UI were really pretty. It was fun trying summoning different types of minions! ^^ It's nice to have a switch of night and day too, however I would expect night to be longer and maybe bring different resources? Pretty cool game, and fun too ^^ A bit hard as there are soooo many enemies VS us not having that many resources >_< survivor.jpg |
| Apr 19 18:28:26 | 1h 11m | CHAZM | ♥ 1 | That was strangely addictive, pretty cool to play while listening to something so that was perfect on stream :D In Main menu mouse movement was a bit "drunken", but in game itself I didn't have any problems with controls. I love the art of ball types, it's really cute, and different types were interesting and different enough, providing effects that all can be useful in different situations. My favourite is 20p ball, both by badass design and effect :) I had fun playing and even got a semi decent score, I think ^-^ peggle.jpg |
| Apr 19 18:40:34 | 12m 08s | The Dodge Invoker | ♥ 1 | I like the visual style and atmosphere of the game, and fair warning it's not gonna be easy ;D I tried a bit but my patience resource is scarce. Couldn't really avoid green thingies that turn me into a ball, and kept rolling down x) However, I like what you did, that's a great concept ^-^ |
| Apr 19 19:35:17 | 54m 43s | Gods of the Forest | ♥ 1 | The art is pretty, it is really my taste :) Especially the magical trees are magnificent. When I read through tutorial, my first thought was: If I could jump with W, that would be really nice. But I didn't experience much discomfort playing with Space for jump. I like how the flow of the game is decently slow, so I can take my time and think and practice the spells. At the same time some points felt a bit more intense, keeping my focus on the game. The mechanic itself is what made it really enjoyable for me! So satisfying, especially when I got both fire and ice spells and could play around with water. The way to call the spells with arrows as if I am writing in a combo for an attack in a fighting game (I don't know, that's the feeling I got! xD) felt cool for me as well! :3 Maybe I would make the wait for them a bit shorter though, especially for the health one. I mostly used healing out of battle so it was just a bit of hm... let's look at the ceiling... for me :) I saw a cat in one of the levels but missed it. Is it a secret, does it say anything if you reach it? I got to the end! gods.jpg You probably didn't have time to implement more of an ending because you spent more time on spells and gameplay. But if you continue working on this game, I would love to see more of an explanation in the end, or maybe no, not explanation, but more like - something visual. Maybe a pixel figure of our sister, or something of the sort. I am a fan of making CGs for endings myself, but it doesn't have to be a picture, maybe just a scene in your pretty pixel-y style <3 Thank you for the game ^^ |
| Apr 19 20:03:31 | 28m 14s | Hellpet | ♥ 1 | What I really really love is the art. It looks so professional! The animation is also great. I noted how wizard falls on collision, that's cool ^^ The Web version of LD page feels cropped: cropped.jpg There is no such problem on itch. I played this entry right after another game, where I had to input arrow keys for spells, so it was a smooth continuation of gameplay for me :D The way I had to stop moving to look in the book to cast the spell made it harder though. Thankfully my dog destroys everything even while sleeping xD sleepstrength.jpg |
| Apr 20 00:53:02 | 4h 49m | Haunted Cartomancy | ♥ 3 | Wow, this is one of the best games I played this jam! It was so captivating and beautiful. First, the visuals - they're truly perfect. It looks polished and well-done. The model of the card reader is 10/10. The design of the cards? Gosh, I don't have enough words left to express how much I liked it. Then, the gameplay: it's the kind that I really love. A little riddle, a bit cryptic, but not too hard to understand - you pretty much realize right away which object you need for each step. With emphasis on the narrative, on words - it feels so enjoyable. About words - I noted in the credits there is "localization". If it's a translation, I just have to praise it as well - the translation is fantastic! I loved how the dialogue was written. And finally, a story itself - not too complicated in general, but with feeling put into it, and a bit chilling in the end. When I got the last task, I immediately thought of a mirror; at that point, I didn't notice it being in the room yet, so started to look around with no specific expectation, just taking all the objects in. And finding a mirror gave me that a-ha moment: oh, it is a mirror, and -then I saw the reflection, and then the last movie - you pretty much understand you had to trade your soul for the soul of your friend, but the game leaves you with so many questions - why was your protagonist willing to sacrifice himself? What happened to his friend? And what happened to his own soul in the end, did it get into the same place his friend's was in? And is the friend's soul now in protagonist's body? In my eyes, it's good that the game leaves you with such questions, letting you to build your own theories. Little nitpicks: In terms of dialogue, I am used to having an option to make the whole phrase appear by clicking so accidentally skipped a few lines. If we could click on text to make it all be written-out at once, that would be nice <3 You can't exit the game after credits in any way other than Alt+F4, it would be nice to have an exit button, or let game close itself if you click on the screen when credits are up. |
| Apr 20 01:12:56 | 19m 54s | Ritual of Ribbit | ♥ 1 | I remember last time, I enjoyed the inventive nature of your game Yarn, and followed to be notified next Jam with a new game. And wow, I am sure happy I did! To be honest, I really enjoy platformer-type games, and this one was so different, but I feel like this time the feeling of gameplay and movement was more enjoyable! I liked the dynamic of trampoline so much, and then later when I got anti-gravity I was like +o+ gravity.jpg It is not too easy (for me), and I was relieved to find that starting over puts me at the start of the level, and not the whole game. In terms of spells, I found the rock one, being used for crossing lava, a bit too tedious and repetitive pretty quick. Yes, it gives a bit of tension when you cross, especially if you are impatient and jump instead of simply walking further like a normal person (I am impatient), but when I need to re-do the level, that's the first thing that makes me feel like "no..." - not the hard parts, but realization that I need to place these damn rocks one by one again :'D I completely forgot to say how great the art is. It is totally my jam, the frog in a wizard hat is ADORABLE, the items and light and animation - everything is great. Including the blocks surrounding you, and the background - just really good, cohesive and polished. Great game, looking forward to your next work +_+ |
| Apr 20 01:26:59 | 14m 03s | Creature Conjurers | ♥ 2 | It is so pretty and enjoyable, I would love to see it expanded with a book that has our successful combinations with result written down, and specific tasks for which we would need a specific object summoned. But you put in a lot of work creating something for each combination, and did so with a lot of imagination and humour! It's sad I can't rate this game ?_? But it was fun trying different combinations out! Also, many creatures were insanely cute <3 My favs: cuteee.jpg |
| Apr 20 01:37:35 | 10m 36s | Tiny Summons | ♥ 1 | It's pretty inventive to make a game as a stream with stream commands, that was such a nice and fresh experience :) Peculiar how twitch itself added some limitations: for example, I wanted to summon a few bullfrogs in a row, but twitch didn't let me send the message as it was the same text in a short period of few seconds. On about the 4th try, finally my team won! xD victory!.jpg The art is adorable. All the creatures are too cute. I just want to hug them and squeeze them and pinch their cheeks. I wonder how long this game will be up though, as it's heavily connected to twitch. Overall, it was fun ^-^ |
| Apr 20 01:52:29 | 14m 54s | Frame Wizards | ♥ 1 | Uhm well, I am a little confused, but I got the spirit... right? confused.jpg I reloaded the page to read through the tutorial again but it didn't help much xD I just noticed the objects can push the bunny and that seemed like the only way to proceed, but... I don't think I realize what the game wants from me :') The tutorial was like: place the bird! I did. On the tree. And then...what? So, about good things: cute art! Placing objects/creatures feels satisfying. The music is nice. I think I just need a bit more guidance from the tutorial ^^' |
| Apr 20 02:47:04 | 54m 35s | Slaymore | ♥ 4 | The cover art is absolutely gorgeous, like a cover of a comic book! In-game art is fantastic is well. The sound of jumping was adorable, totally unexpected :D Though I feel like it can become a bit overbearing if you jump too much. I liked fast movement, and the way you showed the tutorial. Struggled a bit with hitboxes, I think. Met the skeletons and couldn't really attack them with my sword(?) With slime also, my and his collision box... Something just wasn't working that well. I would love more intuitive hitbox, and overall control of the character to be smoother. Also, it's very easy to just fall a few times and rush into places where maybe you were supposed to go later? Maybe the movement is slightly... *too* fast? Found a secret room with a bat, but didn't seem like I could do anything here... secret.jpg |
| Apr 20 18:15:11 | 15h 28m | The Arrangement | ♥ 1 | This reminded me of one horror game, where we also had to go back to elevator and go up the floors (only there we needed to put posters on doors instead of solving puzzles). I like how there is a creepy atmosphere when the game starts, though then I quickly notice I can feel pretty much safe and start exploring comfortably. ! Writing this while on 4th (?) floor ! : If you develop it further, I would love to see more details appearing each floor: starting with some moving shadows or sounds, something with the doors of the elevator itself (getting stuck for a second, something blocking them in the last moment before disappearing, sound of elevator shaking etc). As for the puzzle itself, I was confused at first because I thought initially we need to open the white door, not the elevator, and concentrated on that door too much. But then figured it out. stuck.jpg With this, at first I moved both triangles towards this plant, based on the clue, and sat confused for a while. Only then I tried moving one of them towards a smaller plant on the table and it worked. (Also: sorry, but at first I thought: oh, a bowl of soup on the chair! xD) I like how the lighting changed on the 4th floor, and the white door became slightly open, and photo of chairs appeared. Small changes like this can really enhance the experience, hopefully there is bit more coming in the future, for previous floors as well <3 ! Got to 5th level ! The sounds are good, 4th floor really gave me back the feeling of anxiety. The sound effects along with lightning really help with creepy atmosphere. Got stuck on 5th(?) level. 5th.jpg I feel like it has something to do with high thin plants in pots but tried a few combinations keeping in mind across the hallway hint, nothing seems to work for me. Went back to look through the comments and noticed feedback about scary moments. So, my thoughts on this: you don't necessarily need jumpscares to make the game scary. As I stated, sounds and light create the atmosphere. For me personally, the feeling that something MIGHT happen any second is the whole point of feeling scared. You do need to keep up that feeling with some small elements, yes, but it doesn't 100% need to be an actual jumpscare. I think, considering people having trouble solving the puzzles (as I scroll through, there seem to be players who got stuck much earlier than me), it would be nice to publish a walkthrough for those who wish to use it (and link it here in description, or just write it out with spoiler warning) or even make a video of your own walkthrough of the game :) Edit: was giving out ratings and just realized we are "summoning" the lift xD Good job! |
| Apr 20 18:44:27 | 29m 16s | Ballad of Lead Shroud | ♥ 4 | That was a nice short experience! **Horror**: For me personally it wasn't scary, but I like the atmosphere with the music and visual effects. **Technical**: I played in HTML which might be the reason for some jerkiness of the camera movement, though I think for me it even enhanced the experience but most likely wasn't intentional. Also, sometimes I skipped text accidentally as at first I thought it would just show the whole line, and then it happened a few times when I thought maybe I'd interact with that door, but oops it happened at the same moment game tried to tell me something. **Story**: The story is well thought out and explained, and tells a lot about the characters. I think I noticed a few problems with grammar, so if you get someone to spellcheck, it would help. (Unfortunately didn't think to take a screenshot at the moment. One second.) mistakes.jpg *I didn't say I would sacrifice my partner.* *I couldn't write any songs. I couldn't get along with any of the new members.* **Art**: I like the models of the band members, they look decently creepy but still gorgeous! :D Also, her "phrasing" was pretty bad (and I think it's intentional? and part of why it failed?) As I would understand it as "I want THEM to be rich and famous". And so they kill her. But also obviously because they had bad blood between them when they were alive. Which also makes our MC a bit stupid because she didn't realize they wouldn't be that happy to see her. All of that is NOT the critique of the game or story, but my feelings about this particular character :) Maybe it could even be enhanced with less of "it affected me badly and I got lucky I survived" and more of "It's their fault they died and left me alone, to fail" which would explain her egoistic and self-absorbed character more and make it more believable how she made that decision. After all, her second wish seems to be the reason they died, even? (Replaying 2nd time as I missed some dialogue accidentally on my 1st) |
| Apr 21 03:51:54 | 9h 07m | The Fifth Seal | ♥ 1 | Wait, the End? The end??? wait.jpg I love to see a story game, and as I usually do with visual novels and stories with choices, tried to go through my "natural" playthrough, choosing everything that feels right and accepting the result. (Then I usually use walkthrough to get other endings x)) But I am not sure - it seems the summoning was a success, and then it's open-ended? So I assume I was pretty much successful? I wonder what other endings are. Smoked all cigarettes in hopes of some kind of "passing out" ending but nope x) Overall, it was a pretty cool experience. I got to emerge myself into the story and put myself into the main character, like summoning my soul into her body (as it's "you", I imagined myself as a woman), and was genuinely trying to guide her right. Her lover's name being Anna, which is my name, strangely made me feel even closer to the characters (with the power of *connection* through *something familiar*). I would be infinitely thankful if you provided some sort of "walkthrough" with endings. Last Jam I made a Twine game too (it's a bit different as I used Twine 1, not 2) and made a walkthrough document in case someone needs it; I realize that maybe you would prefer everyone to discover all the endings by themselves, but with so many different choices involved, I am afraid I would require at least a list/number of endings available :') **Edit: few random thoughts** I liked the writing and found that demon(?) character in the end properly creepy. My girl lost a lot of blood during that playthrough, I wonder how she has any left. |
| Apr 21 04:08:10 | 16m 16s | Pony Summon Quest | ♥ 2 | Well, I got a pony :) pony.jpg * Cobweb removal is very satisfying. When I realized I don't have to click but just touch it with my mouse, it felt great. * Gacha rolls are too slow, I put the long ones on and just went away from my computer to do other stuff. * The art is really cute, and pony eggs look especially **fabulous** |
| Apr 21 15:37:15 | 11h 29m | The Gateway | ♥ 1 | Always happy to see a game with voiceover! But little nitpick: I am sure many of people in this LD are not native English speakers, and understanding human speech w/o subtitles might be hard. Especially as it was a bit echo-y and we had different speakers with their own way of speaking. Yes, it sounds realistic and I like the voice acting job here, but it's a bit hard for me to understand a lot of what they are saying. If you continue updating this game in the future, I strongly suggest adding subtitles. And maybe work a bit on the quality of the audio (so it's more clear). Especially since their lines are crucial for understanding what you need to do in order to advance in the game. I activated all my ears (unfortunately I only have two) and focused on trying to get what the guys are saying and went between all these scientists to complete their requests. I like the design of the robot, how he looks overgrown with moss or vines. If in the future you add a little shadow below him, that would be fantastic. All the scientists seem to have their own personality, which is great! Having two types of gameplay was nice and refreshing. I had fun battling the demons. It wasn't too hard, but not boring (I finished with 50 hp, I believe). Adding a visual effect on demon when it dies will go a long way! Also, the summoning circles are really colourful and pretty. WTH the ending T_T Should've left these demons get those humans :') snippet.jpg |
| Apr 21 16:11:35 | 34m 20s | Amareica | ♥ 1 | This game for sure has a very unique atmosphere. I love the visual style, the sounds. I love the retro vibe and a little bit of creepiness. Was a bit confusing where in the choice "Sure" was highlighted, however my character said "What's it to you", the other choice. I reloaded immediately and relied on the word being gray this time around. In my head it makes much more sense that the highlighted option is the one being chosen. I wonder if eyes and lips in the menu do anything? Or they are here just for visual effect? I tried clicking on them a lot :) To be quite honest, I know nothing about betting on horses, so options "Place" and "Show" were confusing to me. I dunno, I supposed "places" means like, top 5 or something? What is show then, she showed up to the race? :D Sorry, I just have no idea. I bet people who are into it would have a blast though. I lost all money first run and then just kept looking at the races money-free xD That said, I enjoyed the overall experience and I am happy I decided to try this game. I was rewarded with crazy cutscenes of races that kept getting crazier, in a good way, and a fantastic creepy CG in the end, with music that SLAPS. beautiful.jpg This is a small horror-like experience that I really enjoy. There is something unsettling about it, mysterious and so - scary, but without jumpscares or whatnot, and without losing sleep over it. Just a satisfying game that I got to play during my work break. Thank you <3 |
| Apr 21 17:36:46 | 1h 25m | Jiang Shifu | ♥ 0 | The movement is so unique, gives those ninja vibes too. It didn't open in fullscreen for me though, so it was bit inconvenient as at one point my cursor was just always leaving the game window, and it wasn't even at the corner of that window! cursor.jpg Cursor isn't shown on screenshots, but I marked where it went. The tension of leaping through the air relying on the talisman was very cool. At one point I died just being in the air, not falling down. Not sure what that was, a limited amount of times I can stay jumping about in the air? deadHead.jpg Tried again, and no, I jumped about 3 times (which is less than I did to get to the lantern) and I get this result in the air, not touching spikes or anything. So, it is a bit unclear what went wrong here. I am pretty sure I should go up, but my character keeps dying in the air for no apparent reason. Overall: the visual style is fantastic (background!! so good!!), the music is just the right vibe, and I love the unique mechanic. I just wish it felt a bit more comfortable to control (don't let cursor leave the window / allow fullscreen) and conditions on dying midair were a bit more clear. |
| Apr 21 18:18:08 | 41m 22s | Chefs from the Dead | ♥ 1 | The game looks simple, and visual style is not my taste, BUT I think it works for the humourous effect quite well, **and** I actually enjoyed playing! I love cooking, especially baking, but don't know much about celebrity chefs, I suppose, as I only recognized Gordon (right away though, before seeing the name, so good job!) I didn't get much luck with Pig Pastry chef, he seemed to be a bit rare (or I really just wasn't lucky as it's probably randomized!) I tried my best, but I suppose it ain't that easy! cooking.jpg The idea is cool imo, mechanic is simple but well thought-out, with different strength & weaknesses. Animation is also simple, but effective. I had fun, thanks! x3 |
| Apr 22 15:53:33 | 21h 35m | A Clash of Horns | ♥ 2 | The visuals are really pretty, and the mechanic of the game seems to be well thought-out. I seem to have a rogue card appearing in card selection after victory: extra card.jpg It appears and disappears, and impossible to click on. It took me a minute to figure out the cards (didn't really understand what "targets the cells" means, then figured it's for summoning creatures, then thought ok "targets enemy" must mean I should use that card ON enemy bit it was actually a summon characteristic ^^') Maybe if it was clearer which cards are "summon" ones and which are "attack" ones, that would be helpful ^^ I felt like gameplay was maybe a bit slow? Or maybe it feels like that because I was thinking too slowly :) Really liked all the different creatures, and overall design of the game. The tutorial for the cards looks gorgeous. I think my only wish is more clarity on what the specific cards do, on cards themselves. |
| Apr 22 16:17:54 | 24m 21s | Summonion | ♥ 2 | Made my bully cry, next day he comes back summoning blue rocks out of his sleeve. onion.jpg Talk about an upgrade! Design of the boy really looks like a school bully x) Poor onions! They are so cute. Even, especially, the evil one. Summoned my first summonion and immediately threw in the middle of nowhere. Took a minute to get adjusted to gameplay and figure everything out, then work out the aim on that slingshot x) My favourite part is the play on the word summoning, I was really hoping to see some wordplay on it this Jam %) |
| Apr 22 16:36:00 | 18m 06s | Crystal Defence | ♥ 2 | Caught the game on stream and played it a bit myself. Immediately understood what the talk about crosshair was. It would really be helpful ^^' First shot usually goes on figuring out where it is, so to say. I like how open the world feels, and the style of portal and enemies and the stuff is cool. Maybe it could be a little bit dynamic closer to beginning? As when the 1st wave started I spent a few seconds like "hmm enemies? where?" But overall it was chill and fun :) |
| Apr 22 17:13:41 | 37m 41s | Demanager | ♥ 5 | Played a bit, had a lot of fun! I like how it was not that easy as it appeared at first, but then in round three I felt like the voice and items don't match at all, got wrong option three times in a row and ragequit xD But I am not very good at recognizing and memorizing voices, and I feel like here you should rely mostly on the sound (at least that's what I attempted to do). The graphics are fantastic, and I love how the eyes follow the mouse and the horns sparkle with colours. The creatures are all cool, and the sound is also really great ^^ employee.jpg |
| Apr 22 17:34:28 | 20m 47s | The Wrong Book | ♥ 1 | Voice over sounds professional, it is really really good! Mechanics are well thought-out, progression seems to be smooth, not to slow or too fast, and I like pixel-y style. I'd say sprites of my followers and shrines I liked especially, more than my summons. Looking with options of Devourer, wow that got darker xD Very good theme representation imo! |
| Apr 22 18:27:18 | 52m 50s | Dicey Demons | ♥ 6 | Main menu art is ***adorable***! I really love the visual style in game as well. Combination of purple and yellow is so pretty. The gameplay was chill and relaxing, I kinda got into a groove. Sound of dice was satisfying, too. Though the game felt more like it's luck based? Totally fair matchup: fair.jpg And then after these ez matches I get the boss and he destroyed my entire army x) bosslose.jpg |
| Apr 22 18:39:57 | 12m 39s | Tao | ♥ 2 | It was really fun, I enjoyed playing a lot ^^ Got a bit stuck in an ice cave but can say overall mechanics and execution, everything is very enjoyable! Pixel style is also super cute, and small screen along with it creates a cozy experience. stuck2.jpg Can't jump over these two skulls, try resetting the room - left ones fall first, so speed doesn't help. So I finished there ^^' |
| Apr 22 18:47:17 | 7m 20s | Furriend: A Paw-some Summoning Odyssey | ♥ 3 | Song! Music! What the heck, I didn't expect to be blown away so quickly xD Intro is fantastic! And THIS THIS.jpg THIS! Too cute!! And the puzzle levels visuals are so polished, everything just looks so perfect and complete, very impressive +_+ |
| Apr 23 14:40:39 | 19h 53m | Hellmouth Pizza | ♥ 1 | Yay, a cooking game! \^v^/ This one was recommended to me as I was looking for cooking games this jam :) First of all, it looks fantastic. The menu, the paw cursor, the ability to change audio volume (ok that's not visual but just happens to be in this list lol), the visuals and design of everything IN the game - just purrfect. Music is fun, fits the game; controls feel smooth. You have to be pretty quick, so I am thinking - if I take some peppers, can I keep them in hand to place everywhere I want? And switch to something else then? (Maybe option "none" would be a necessity then though). The summoning circle patterns on pizza is a fun take on a theme, though it took a second for me to realize I have to use circles as connection points. Not sure if you could make it more obvious though, might be a line in the tutorial, but I did figure it out pretty soon. Just took a few tries to figure everything in this process out before I could get to some more serious cooking :) On that note, a few nitpicks: * would love to see a fullscreen option * it's not very clear in the beginning where to put the pizza, gave it to a cat on the left a few times then realized it's like a "throwing away" option and only then tried the oven cat ^^' I think just a few lines of tutorial at the start would do the trick: a few lines on the screen with arrows, saying: -> when your pizza is ready, bake it here to give to the customer! -> if you made a mistake, feed your pizza to the hungry demon cat! This will also give an opportunity to add a bit of humour and character in text <3 Edit: That said, I did NOT read a description on this page before playing, sorry ^^' But still think the advice should be in-game for post-jam (I played "jam version" first, then tried "post-jam" as well!) |
| Apr 23 15:18:41 | 38m 02s | Room to Grow | ♥ 2 | Poor Renee, brother dead, then right away I get a letter about his lover being dead ._. Anyway. I checked your page and was drawn in by the game cover ^^ And I *love* the idea of the game. Will be great if you continue developing it! Right now the map is too huge, and it takes a lot of time to find anything. Especially when I am in someone's mind, it doesn't have to be a minute of walking around looking for that sapling I have to protect. Or someone calls me to the graveyard, and I find them accidentally in a lush green place with zero graves. Keep in mind these are all suggestions for further development of the game, I think for a jam entry the game is great! I loved the visual style a lot. The main character is adorable, all the sprites are cute, I love the detail of flowers on MC's name box. With time you can make the world more alive, adding landmarks and details. Maybe squeezing the map still, and filling more into blank spaces. I understand I can only do magic in people's minds, however I figured it out by clicking everything action-related in my mind. Some guidance from the game will be a great addition. Music is cute. For some reason when I click Enter, the character flashes, but nothing happens (can't interact with houses or anything) All that said, again - the idea is absolutely precious, and I would **love** to see a completed version of this game! <3 **Some more ideas**: * When it's a letter, maybe show a picture of a letter? * Later down the line, we could maybe enter houses? I think it would be cool if Anemone had her own house. We could get some sleep, get up in morning and find a new letter in our letterbox! That way we have a feeling that we are getting a letter every day, we get some sense of time, and feel more in control of our day, and have a bit of a "break" between jobs! * The ideas shown in dialogues are great, however I think the presentation of them (in words) could be better, in short: writing could be improved * Maybe make a page on itch.io so game development is easy to follow? ^^ **In short**: - I think this game has a great potential, I see a lot of things that can be done with it, and am already envisioning a Steam release! x) |
| Apr 23 21:55:30 | 6h 36m | HELLSPAWNER | ♥ 2 | Music is very fun, so energetic! I like how the game essentially consists of "boss battles", that's really cool. Also, I like how my avatar changes as I receive more damage. I think the hardest opponent for me was Lich, but he also has my favourite design of them all ^^ Got to the end on normal (sorry xD), got a jumpscare: ending1.jpg xD The ending is pretty cool, btw. Didn't expect that at all. Overall, I had a lot of fun playing! Boss fights, different attacks, reminded me also a bit of how I played old fighting games as a kid (tho it's bit different but still there's something), even an ending to add a bit to the story. Great experience! =o |
| Apr 24 14:43:50 | 16h 48m | Witches Brew | ♥ 1 | The visuals are **really** pretty. Makes me want to take screenshot and use as my background on laptop. It looks magical, and colourful, and maybe a bit nostalgic (remembering old Harry Potter games xD tho this looks better tbh) This is the kind of 3D game/environment that I **do** enjoy (I am more of 2D person x)). There are even butterflies flying around! Cute! I have trash sense of direction (part of why it's harder for me to play 3D games) so I appreciated the hints a lot: hint.jpg For some reason I was expecting I shouldn't be able to walk on water, but then it turned out to be completely legal x) It made exploration easier, but I am not sure if it's supposed to be like that? The end made me chuckle x) **Overall**: I feel like with this vast and pretty place you have an option to make a bigger game, filling up the space with points of interest, things to interact with (to learn more of the lore, or take more quests, etc), more story/stories, like our journey of trying out different spells and getting silly results x) There are a lot of things you could do with this! *Nitpicks*: * It would be nice if text disappeared when you click a mouse or a button, because when game loaded, I had about 1 second to read first batch of text and then it was gone and I was like 3_3 * The sensitivity in-game is a bit too high, the mouse moves too fast (I have 500 dpi set on my mouse for context) * To be honest, main background music felt a bit too distorted for me and didn't fit the visual atmosphere :( I don't want to insult the composer but this just doesn't work for what I am seeing in game, I would expect this music in uhm... Did you play "Digger" game? I actually loved it a loooot as a kid (https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digger) Well, I think this music would fit in *there*, but not in *here* >_< Edit: I noticed you opted out of graphics, are these assets from someone else? I see three people listed in description, but only one person in LD list 3_3 |
| Apr 27 00:56:42 | 58h 12m | Daemonis Algebra | ♥ 1 | Gosh I did ittt! didittt.jpg Not on my first try, that's for sure xD Got this game recommended by a friend, and wow it was really so enjoyable! The way I failed several times but still felt determined to try again - for me that's huge, because I am impatient and give up easily, especially in jam games (and I hate time limits) but I really wanted to win this! I feel like the important things here were: 1) the process was just really fun! 2) failures felt deserved, and they were not because I felt game f**ked me over in some way, but because of me not being good enough yet, not figuring out layout and some little quirks of gameplan yet. I think I have only 2 complaints: 1) It was hard recognizing some parts for what they are. Many of them. That's why I just tried to basically collect everything I can on the way. Not sure if it's designed that way but I found that a bit confusing. 2) In the end I was not-pleasantly surprised with the fact I have to get to the door but at the same time secretly excited by the twist. However, when I got to the door I didn't realize right away I have to press Z to activate it! Thankfully it worked out in the end, but if I lost there because of that I would be pissed xD So maybe if you gave that info quickly along with "go back to the door" or maybe make it pop up when you get close to the door in the end - that would be a huge help! So overall, wow I enjoyed your game a lot, thank you for this fun time! ^v^ Cute visuals, nice way to tell a story in drawings before and after main gameplay, gameplay itself super enjoyable, controls feel good, just chef's kiss :3 |
| Apr 27 13:59:48 | 13h 03m | CallOfTitan | ♥ 1 | Peculiar idea, I think it's pretty cool! Love the art, palette, atmosphere. And how the layout of the walls changes, but with a hint on where they are gonna be. I assume that placement of titan parts is random (as on one level I got a bunch of them in same spot, I think 4 at once) which is not a bad thing but makes luck one of the factors in the playthrough :) 6r.jpg I got through 6 rounds, died in 7th. UI is also cute by the way, the hearts and a little tutorial too, it's all presented in a neat and clear way. My main complaint is that the movement feels too slow. Ofc if you decide to change it, the speed of projectiles will also need to be adjusted. Thank you for the game, it was a nice experience ^^ |
| Apr 27 14:16:32 | 16m 44s | Summoner | ♥ 1 | Damn it :D damnit.jpg I tried a few times, but it's a bit hard with the upper totem especially, hard to get an angle when an enemy goes straight at it. Lower totems were also harder than side ones, but doable. The most upper one was the main problem ;_; I think the concept is interesting, with how you can damage totems yourself and so you have to find good angles on the enemies. The gameplay felt a bit more intense as I got closer to losing a totem, but overall it could be a pretty chill time. I think you could tweak spawn points of enemies a bit, maybe, and make it so more of them appear, but it's not such a struggle on a vertical line. So the player still has to find good angles, but doesn't get annoyed with upper totem and feels more engaged due to larger number of enemies ^^ Nice to see a bit of voice over, as well, got to mention that. Great job, imo! Edit: Also have no idea if the red bar filling up is a good thing? It seemed to be just growing overtime. Didn't get it to fill up completely so I am curious... |
| Apr 27 18:59:45 | 4h 43m | Voir Dire | ♥ 1 | I really liked the intro and outro with a silhouette, gave noir vibes. Game definitely has it's own unique atmosphere, the concept feels unique, character designs are expressive :) |
| Apr 28 13:58:50 | 18h 59m | Cat-o-Conjurer | ♥ 1 | Played for a while and figured it was endless x) Really cute idea, and it was fun trying out different cats with their little quirks ^^ The design is cool, the cats are cute (tiny one is my favourite but fluffy is also adorable when it poofs out!) and the premise is simple but unique, I liked it a lot! Only I think regular cat might be a bit useless rn (I understand it is our default but I ran only with her at the start for a while and couldn't catch any rats ;_;) |
| Apr 28 14:29:22 | 30m 32s | Bugs VS Bugs | ♥ 1 | This was on my to-play list for a while, finally got around to play it! By the video it seems more features were added in post-jam version, but unfortunately that link doesn't seem to be working for me, it's not loading ._. I did play your compo version and the idea is quite nice. I feel like the concept reminds me of some games I played before, but unfortunately can't remember the titles right now. I knew I had to press Space to summon because I read the description on LD page, and I suspect you were hoping to give a hint in-game with the rectangular shape around the word Summon, however I wouldn't realize myself I had to press space, w/o checking the description. Judging by the video you attached, it is still the case in the updated version. So, maybe writing a little "Press space" on in-game screen would be helpful! The visuals are very simple, however that's not a critique as you clearly concentrated your efforts on other aspects and actually the simplicity of design works quite well imo, creating a unique look for the game as well. I feel like that's not really my type of game, but objectively it's a very good effort for a Compo, great job! <3 |
| Apr 28 22:38:43 | 8h 09m | Demons On Demand👹📦 | ♥ 5 | Struggled a bit at first to understand the whole chain of process, but thankfully after a few attempts figured it out xD chaos.jpg ^Finally got through the first day making everything successfully! I really liked the game, I'll add it to my list to play more when I have more time ^^ The art is very pretty and the game looks polished. The gameplay feels interesting and with a unique spin, too. I'd say it would be nice to have a bit more of an indication that we completed an order successfully. I noticed a lightning when spell goes through, and points being added, but it felt a bit too understated. If you could possibly add a bigger visual effect on the coloured vat (in theory even a silhouette of said monster!) AND on points & orders, that would be great ^^ |
| Apr 28 22:45:39 | 6m 56s | Infernal Refreshments | ♥ 1 | I am not good enough at mathematics to get through the game, but I played a few levels and the concept feels really unusual and unique! I think it's a cool take on a puzzle game, and the visuals are also fantastic. The story behind the summoning part is funny as well :) |
| May 1 15:24:21 | 64h 38m | Lucky Little Darlings | ♥ 1 | The look and atmosphere of the game is so unique! I love the huge green eyelashes +_+ And the skull in main menu. Overall the style is really cute&cool! Random thoughts while I play: - I was confused why Dad is asking for rent xD - Loved looking through the journal with little darlings, and it looks soooo good - 1st little darling is literally our MC?? - the journal made me think damn that's really cute, because I made a "picture book" for my game (also wanted to make so you can look through it but didn't have time so it's just a single picture) and yours works sooo much better, taking notes x) - love the chaotic energy of the game x) - in hidden object part, would be nice to know what we are looking for, as whole BG looks the same so objects don't even stand out from the rest, some list or silhouettes would work - in perfect world objects also disappear once found - I ended up just clicking on diff objects mindlessly until got them all - I realized midway we are supposed to use the journal for reference (what little darlings want) so now that makes more sense but I still think object for finding should stand out somehow as it wasn't too clear - or maybe even make journal light up when finding objects scene comes up, and throw in a phrase that clarifies that a little (specifically when the mini game starts!) - aaand it seems I got to the end!! - now I am a bit sad I didn't realize the idea behind object finding right away, though ig it was implied through dialogue, it wasn't clear enough for me and I wasted that opportunity just clicking randomly ;_; - the sound when darlings appear was very horror-like, expecting horror continuation xD |
| May 1 18:25:15 | 3h 00m | A cake from beyond | ♥ 2 | That was such a fun little experience! Even though I watched some gameplay on Tobugis stream, I enjoyed going through the game myself! The music is a perfect fit, and this is definitely the funniest game I've seen this jam ^^ I wasn't sure how I triggered summoning though, I think by clicking on the book in my inventory? I think it would make sense to have a summoning table where we would put all the items we found! |
| May 1 18:41:08 | 15m 53s | FAINA | ♥ 1 | The demons are really really cute ^^ Animations are also pretty and smooth. Overall visual style is perfect! Gameplay is chill, like a clicker with special qualities. Would be nice to play while listening to something, for example. Music is quite dramatic! Was pretty cool when I first got an epic summon with Elder Soul, that's badass! I like different abilities of demons too, adds more variety and strategic opportunities. Overall, that's a nice idea ^^ |
| May 1 19:44:30 | 1h 03m | You Are Gnome-Caller | ♥ 1 | My browser froze when I tried playing ;_; So I downloaded and at first it froze too but then thankfully came around ^^' I figured there should be a pattern to the notes but it didn't seem so. Clicking randomly I achieved a pretty big flame, but then it disappeared. This is where I have to state explicitly I have NO ear for music whatsoever. However, I called in my bf and forced him to play (he has an ear for music) and he gave up also ;_; I saw some of gameplay on Tobugis stream and it looked fun, really liked gnomes' animation! If my assumption is correct and you have to recreate melody from background music, then I think it's a cool idea for a game (just for people who are good with music ofc! x)) |
| May 1 21:14:03 | 1h 29m | Demon Chalk | ♥ 2 | Wow, that's a pretty cool idea! I have to say I appreciate it a lot you gave us main menu as a tutorial on the mechanic. That's a great usage of main menu, and gave me time to figure out the technique. I think it's very responsive in terms of circle (it doesn't have to be too precise and feels good). And the visual style is really cute too! I didn't play a lot because there is more pressure on my hand pressing two mouse buttons all the time and I am recovering from mouse-hand pain now so ;_; but I did play for enough time to die for the first time! xD and see a few diff cards and enemies ^^ all the details are very pretty and the game looks very polished! |
| May 1 23:25:09 | 2h 11m | Doomsday Care | ♥ 1 | My baby <3 mybaby.jpg That was cute and chill, made me nostalgic (I played tamagochi as a kid!) and it wasn't too long, so I played fine in browser, just taking care of my lil monster non-stop x) Loved the transformations, each one is cooler than the other! Really nice visual style ^^ |
| May 1 23:41:26 | 16m 17s | Throes of the Javelin | ♥ 2 | Wow, this is pretty sick! (in a nice way :D) Graphics are *gorgeous*, they create a really nice atmosphere, but also the mechanic feels unique, at least I think I didn't see anything like this before! And animations and physics of the javelin seem to be pretty well done. Overall the game feels polished. The physics of MC being pushed when summoning a javelin --cked me over a few times xD But I don't think it's a bad thing, makes it feel more *real* so to say and creates additional challenge. |
| May 2 00:36:31 | 55m 05s | Pictomancer | ♥ 2 | This is so well made and satisfying to play! I love how the game records and shows the progress of drawing, and how it's not just about trying to draw with a mouse (I could plug in my graphic tablet I suppose... xD) and it being a challenge, it's also a bit of an idle/clicker game in its essence, and as such it feels complete and perfectly polished. The visuals are flawless as well, and it just feels incredibly cozy <3 And for me, as someone who is very much a newbie in programming, it feels magical how you managed to create this whole system. In the vision I had for my game I wanted the player to draw the runes (as a mini game) themselves, but I didn't know how to do it, so resorted to showing a list of runes instead for the player to choose a correct one. But you also did so much more than just drawing - there is a small detail of having to refill your ink (blood?) and objects to make the process faster/easier, and that one thing I mentioned above that blew me away - showing *exactly* how I personally drew the symbol. Really, mind-blowing +_+ I think my only complaint is that sometimes games says I am done when I think I am not. gap.jpg ^Here, I first did the triangle and then went from left to right on the half-circle as it's easier for me to move in that way. I couldn't connect the lines - the game told me the symbol is ready and didn't let me draw anymore. I would love it if after *I* think I am done I could click outside the paper or on the REC button again to tell the game the symbol is ready, as my perfectionism is killing me with this gap (and that wasn't a single occurrence) *It is nice, however, there is an option to try again. I didn't realize that right away! But the issue with the gaps still stands! *Also, it would be great to add a saving option in the future, and with that it can already be published as a complete cozy game. Playing bit by bit in the evenings or during work breaks, with the ability to save my progress, would be such a nice and comforting experience ^v^ |
| May 2 01:33:30 | 56m 59s | Fruit Punch | ♥ 2 | That's such a cool and fun concept! I love the bright look of the game, vivid colours, and the kinda cooking theme going on here x) Gameplay idea is simple (connected to timing) but works well and it is satisfying to hit a "perfect". Tbh I was more interested in making juice then some enemy-fighting going on there xD But my combatants were cute! That's my fav: cherry.jpg My favourite part about the game is audio effects, they are so goofy and funny and really elevate the experience ^^ |
| May 2 01:43:05 | 9m 35s | Phoenix Delay | ♥ 1 | Random thoughts while I play: - Animations are cute! - My favourite button is for "making bird noises", that is ESSENTIAL and "bird noises" are adorable! - Going up felt a bit hard, not as fluid and as if the movement was resisting me - Would be neat to see how much distance we covered and how much we have left resultsss.jpg Wasn't going for a speed record but that's the result ig x) It was fun! I'd love to have more fluid movement, it felt hard to control. But I love the idea, the animation when we speed up, the sounds and the art ^^ |
| May 2 15:55:19 | 14h 12m | Tristram | ♥ 4 | !Keep in mind: I was playing Jam Version, so some of the points I bring up you might already have fixed in post-jam! First of all, graphics are gorgeous, main menu looks pleasing and polished, I appreciate the options for music volume and fullscreen. Really cool to see the changes in the village. From little details like gold in the chest, to upgrading buildings. There seems to be a lot of attention to detail, honestly you did so much in just jam time... Ofc I see there is a whole team but it's still impressive! Almost feels like I got a full complete game from Steam, just for no money x) It is pretty addicting, ngl. Can't put it down xD **Random thoughts**: - I spent so much time in the village that my FIRST expedition happened on 3rd year it seems?? xD year3.jpg I *really* like just chillin in the village because it it so cozy and pretty and I love hot springs too. - Seeing the dudes just jump ON the water was funny as hell, I didn't even add it to the "nitpicks" because it seems like "not a bug but feature" type of thing xD lol.jpg When one of them came out of the hot spring saying :) it warmed my heart. Aww. Overall them saying random stuff is super cute and a nice touch. - Then there is even a cemetery for them, and they go talk to their dead... That's just really sweet. Makes them feel more alive <3 - I play during work breaks, but this game took too long to fit in one break so I kept it open while working (book translation) and the music was actually a fantastic BG for that xD - I like how I can change the speed with 1,2,3 - Not sure what "hire and sponsor" means, I pay for the stuff they buy? **Nitpicks**: - In the village, my character goes through tables. I assume you didn't want them to be an obstacle, but it feels a bit strange. Maybe move speed is even a tiny bit *too* fast, it feels a bit... not right. And at 3x speed old man moves in a completely unhinged speed XD - When I "enter" the house there, old man just suddenly disappears. These are little details that can be improved (ofc that's not a critique as you did an ENORMOUS job in just few days, just something you might want to polish in the future ^^) - My heroes also sometimes go through pieces of environment - Considering how we move around with arrow keys/WASD and interact with E, it would make sense to call off menus/screens that appear with a key also, like Enter, or just also E. - I summoned my heroes and realised the ones I called in with a horn need to be hired. I hired one, he proceeded to buy himself a staff and chill, I couldn't summon him by the bell xD I guess that's the was it's intended to be but would be nice to be able to add him ^^' - That said, if I have more than 9 heroes in the village, would be nice to be able to choose who is going to the caves (doesn't seem to be possible rn?) - Would be really cool to add some interaction in the dungeons, like maybe some events where we have to make some choices, or items that we can choose to take, etc etc. Just an idea for a full release +_+ - Also for more content if you release this game on steam, more building could be added for upgrading ^^ I've upgraded both shops to the max and felt like ok, now the only use for my money is hiring new heroes I guess :) - When I decided to leave the game, I couldn't call any kind of menu to save or even just quit in a polite manner, had to Alt-F4. **TLDR** Huge amount of work done, that's impressive! A lot of art (all the BGs in the caves, the monsters), and it looks fantastic. Our village, our home base really is the place you want to spend time in and chill. It already feels like a complete polished games, but I see a lot of potential for expanding! *I spent too much time playing this... Sorry for the long write-up >_<* 16.jpg |
| May 2 16:43:42 | 48m 23s | Globeba | ♥ 0 | **Intro**: poor little carrot! T_T **Impressions**: Oh gosh, even in first location I got Zelda vibes with moving rocks and destroying grass, but then I found a dungeon and was like huh, that is *indeed* zelda-inspired x) There was even something zelda-like in the music. And for me that's immediately +1000 points as Zelda is my favourite game series, and I especially appreciate 2D Zeldas +_+ - Small visual issue here with the locked door: bossdoor.jpg - Animations are super well done, I love how our abilities are "alive", that's really cute, the sounds are good and the art is gorgeous! - It's cool how the game has that nostalgic feeling to it, but at the same time adds original abilities and twists, and the enemies also look unique. * Really super well done, great job! +_+ |
| May 2 17:05:10 | 21m 28s | Tower Of Madness | ♥ 3 | * This music makes me wanna dance xD It's really good, oh my gosh! It seems you opted out of audio, so I wonder where's it from? * The house is super pretty. It looks just the right amount rickety and charming! * Overall atmosphere of the game, with visuals&music&animation feels so fun and light-hearted, really puts a smile on your face ^v^ * Opened in a browser and at first it went nicely fullscreen, but then I switched tabs to write down first impressions and now it's cut off on the sides ;-; Had to zoom out the page to fix the issue ^^' * I like how there's arrow keys input for summoning, adds more interactivity, nice touch! * Cute monster design ^^ * Credits are really cute too! Especially Donata, adorable x) |
| May 2 17:47:25 | 42m 15s | Witch Courtier | ♥ 1 | Ahhh lost because of one shape that refused to fill in T_T >it's not visible by the time I took the screenshot :( welp.jpg That was a lot of fun overall! I like pretty much everything. Constellations is such a cool theme, connecting dots and then drawing shapes was a nice combo, and with time it kept getting more intense! ^^' Barely had time to read what the Kind was saying :) (well I did read it all tho, and pff that was funny x)) Maybe shape-drawing could be just a tad more responsive, or I just suck at it. Was pretty easy to mess it up and for it to not be counted ;_; I like how the screen flares up, especially after failure +_+ That pixelated BG behind the silhouettes is *beautiful*. Great atmosphere, gameplay and idea overall! I enjoyed it a lot ^^ |
| May 2 17:57:21 | 9m 56s | Demon Well | ♥ 1 | Hehe, that was funny! xD Henrick is pretty good at his job, I have to say. He is really trying his best (unlike me) I think it's a pretty cool take, and the game feels unique! Some of the visuals seem retro and I like it. Voice over is fantastic!! And such a nice thing to add to make the game feel more alive +_+ |
| May 3 14:11:31 | 20h 14m | Blåkulla | ♥ 1 | Wow, that was really fun! Even with a boss fight in the end ^^ **Difficulty** Not too hard (good for me lol) but maybe in the future there could be different difficulty levels, this would be easy and then there will be harder ones. I like how time slowed down a bit while drawing. But on topic of drawing... **Mechanic** I loved the idea, and it made the game super fun, playing around with drawing shapes to summon elemental creatures! However... I failed to find a pattern in these. - First of all, sometimes I couldn't summon anything at all. I thought ok, maybe if I have a summon of that type already, I can't call them again. But then, I would have no summons left at all, but no shapes seem to work. And it's not the accuracy of my drawing - because much more ambiguous shapes have worked well before. **Types**. - *Circle*. The only constant, I think, was the circle - but sometimes it summoned fires I couldn't control, and sometime it would give me a fire cloud summon that fired fireballs at my command and was the most OP summon in the game. fire cloud.jpg - *Half-moon*. I tried it (as I was drawing inspiration from the card) and summoned 3 rock(?) dudes. They looked like rock clouds (BUT **not** rock cloud I will attach below, these were sand-coloured, came in threes, and were ON the ground!) and I think they attacked automatically. However, I could only repeat that once. After that, half moon shape either didn't work at all, or summoned something I would expect, say, from a circle (fire cloud). halfmoon.jpg Regular rock cloud: rock cloud.jpg - *Wave*. Mostly it gave me rainclouds that fire icicles, or porings (I mean, like slimes?) made of water. Sometimes it would be something different, though. I recall that regular rock summons also came from waves. I found no difference between smooth wave and sharp-edged one. On this screenshot, both the cloud and rock were summoned from the same shape. waveshape.jpg TLDR: I have no idea in the end, which shapes should do what. (Also just realized from description I can switch cards, lol I didn't do that in the game, drew all the inspo from one xD) **Technical** Game opened in a full screen, but I tried clicking "enter full screen" and that actually made it look very cropped, and when I went to "credits" page, I had to close the game and open again because "return" button was off the screen: offscreen.jpg Then, I checked my settings and switched resolution to 100% as suggested. After that, full screen option just doesn't change anything. So, I am not sure what this option is for, as there is no windowed version anyway ^^' **Overall** Fun mechanic, *gorgeous* visuals (especially background, but in general - very pretty!), cute summons, very inventive, honestly no complaints other than shapes results being confusing and shapes not working sometimes! (and my desktop becoming a mess after switching to 100% and back to 125% ;_;) Story was obscure but it worked well. Completed! <3 night.jpg |
| May 3 14:52:57 | 41m 26s | Inner Workings | ♥ 2 | **Visuals**: Pretty UI, and very practical too, easy to understand. Maybe BGs are bit too gray to *my* taste but they offset colourful character and her summons well. I liked her animations, especially when she sighs! :D Very cute. And chicken is funny ^^ So, really good summon design :) **Music**: I liked the tune at first, but it gets repetitive soon, so I turned it down >_< **Mechanic**: That was pretty fun! Wasn't super easy/convenient to use, but I need to think why... I think, if we moved with WASD, while summoning still with mouse click, that would feel better. I constantly had my fingers ready at WASD xD Then, maybe sometimes it felt a bit slow, and sometimes - overwhelming. Like, I would summon a few summons, and then create a bunch of mana/health for myself while summons do their job... I guess that's just the nature of being a summoner, but maybe something can be done about that - maybe, make it so summoning health/mana gives more at a time so I don't stand around summoning them 4 times in a row? There is something to think about here, with battle pacing, so to say. **Final thoughts**: It was cool to have a little puzzle in the end! That, I think, elevated the experience ^-^ Length of the game is perfect too, but ofc it has potential to grow as well! You could polish the mechanic and maybe work a bit on palette, add more detail to BGs, make different areas with diff BGs (like if you continue developing the game and add new areas!), etc ^v^ |
| May 3 15:18:03 | 25m 06s | Familiar Quest | ♥ 4 | **Visuals** As I understand from comments, there was AI usage for art, and I see you opted out of this category, (main room with the cauldron looks pretty, tho it looks strangely blurry, so it's a shame it was AI) so I will talk about something else: text. The game has a lot of text, but it's not very comfortable to read - maybe you could play around with that a little. Try different font, bigger text box, maybe bigger font, maybe bit bolder, maybe play around with colours as well. I felt like letters were blurring before my eyes ;_; However, I zoomed out the screen to 50% in my browser and game looked more coherent: art less blurry, text bit bigger. So maybe browser just doesn't show the game in resolution it's supposed to be in. Some bug here in text, maybe? With 20 14. 2014.jpg **Quests** It seems we had a collection of short stories, with 3 clear choices for "good" "evil" and "mixed". Events themselves felt a bit simplistic, maybe due to their shortness, maybe due to writing (though I appreciate the game not being too long). I think this could be further worked on, maybe expanding the stories a little, or trying a different approach to writing them. I quite liked that you have different endings! First time I went the "good" route as I usually do but it seems it wasn't a very positive ending xD * Summoned a cutie. basilisk.jpg Choosing evil options actually gave me a better ending (well, for my MC, not her master...) which is kinda funny xD **Overall** The idea is nice, and I love story games. I think it could be polished a bit more, with presentation and writing ^^ |
| May 3 18:51:56 | 3h 33m | Hell Spawn | ♥ 0 | It's really pretty, so I wanted to comment on that, but I couldn't even figure out the 1st room >_< Made two blocks to jump on them, but couldn't reach the chandelier (blocks were right underneath it) However, the idea with building blocks is interesting, art and lighting is gorgeous and animations are cute ^-^ |
| May 3 18:59:16 | 7m 20s | Penguinology | ♥ 1 | Ngl cute penguin caught my attention so wanted to check him out :D I gotta say. First, I jumped from the jumpscare. Then, laughed out loud xD That was a fun little thing. And I liked the sensitivity adjustment simulator, too! |
