@gamebuilder: Sorry about that. Hadn't clicked publish on itch as I was still working out build issues.
I love the designs of the characters, the whole vibe of the game is really cool. I got very confused once I was asked to select details. It wasn't entirely obvious what I could click on. I couldn't figure out what logs I was meant to be able to click either. I want to see more of the game, there seems to be a lot here!!!
Super cool submission. I admire that you tried to make something more serious, and it works well. It's a really intriguing scenario, and the style of the visuals and audio both draw you in. It did take me a second to realize that I was combining two details from the photographs to ask the couple, but I think maybe having something under the game point that out may help some players. Otherwise, my only complaint is that a splash image on the LD page would help people see this! You did an amazing job, I would love to see this kind of idea expanded on.
I feel you, I also was a bit too ambitious this time and couldn't complete everything I wanted, rushed to make the game at least "completable" in literal last minutes before deadline.
I really liked your previous LD entry so subbed to get notified of your new projects ^^
So happy to see this one is horror style as well. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the way the game looked and characters moved. It all, with sound design, contributed to an uneasy feeling you want in a horror. I was suspecting Kim all the time, however ending was so abrupt I am not sure what to think and what happened (I remember being confused in the end of that train game as well ^^')
The take on the theme is pretty neat, and who doesn't love a little murder mystery? Though I didn't seem to be able to use dialogues in my deductions, only details from photos. Might be one of those things you had to cut because of project being too ambitious, just felt a bit confusing as the game was suggesting to use text as well.
At the same time, it still feels like a complete game, just with an abrupt ending that is normal for horror and opens a path to interpretations (other murderer, not from the friend group, now coming for all of them, or Kim attacking their friends, etc etc)
I love the presentation and the art. You did a great job setting the mood, I was intrigued throughout! Love a good twist ending. There are obviously a lot of systems in place here, and with the amount of art you had to do... I can see why you said you were too ambitious haha! I'm so happy that it resulted in a complete experience though, I really enjoyed it and would love to see more of the story!
I've now had a proper night's sleep and fixed up the pages and uploaded an image :)
Logs did not end up getting used unfortunately. Clarified in description now. Incomplete game but I still wanted to submit what I had.
Thanks for playing and commenting, everyone! I'm glad you liked the vibe and visuals despite the lack of gameplay.
@willby: So yeah, there really isn't "a lot more", but in case you didn't make it to the ending, my hint is to try and hover darker details in photos.
@pugg: I say it every time and never do it, but perhaps I will try and expand on it post-jam! At least finish what I had written down but didn't have time to implement.
@kanity: It’s a struggle :') Nice to see you again, I remember your last game too! Excited to try your new one. Really appreciate such a detailed comment. Ending was meant to be ambiguous but not this abrupt or confusing, heh. Was planning on more clues and buildup.
@keithswanger: Yeah, lots of stuff :( Still always feels like I should be able to do more. Should probably make some Godot templates, I always waste time making bespoke stuff.
Pretty unique graphics style!
Absolutely stunning graphics and great audio work makes for a superb mood trip!
You should know better with the scoping though  Seriously ambitious.
Again, graphics where great, not only the details in it but the visual effects placed on-top. The font seemed very fitting choice, but if there's one thing with the style, it's when we get to the presenting evidence phase. The logs honestly don't look as great as everything else in the game. And given that as far as I could tell, I didn't really need them to solve the puzzles, I think they distracted a bit more than they added.
The story was cool too, though I must admit it was a bit confusing at times since the drawings where so suggestive and I'm honestly not sure if it was all linear or they came out in order responding to how I clicked on one or the other person. Really hard to pull off without being a bit confusing so I'm not complaining really.
It also took me a little while to figure out that I could click on things in the photos. Or rather to find the stuff that was clickable. I think I did search them a little at first but all I found was the time stamps. I'm guessing those were meant to be incorporated in further puzzles but time ran out? Basically though, perhaps it could have been split up with a super simple first confrontation where it is really obvious what should be clicked in the photo to teach me the importance of really scanning them.
It wasn't any serious issue, it just took me a couple of attempts to get it.
Very well made entry! Always interesting to see what you cook up.

I was very impressed by both the images and sounds in this game. The contrast between light and darkness and the color scheme are especially striking. The story as well is off to a good start, and I wonder how you would have developed this. Did you have the story planned out when you began coding, or were you intending to flesh it out during the jam? Regardless, I would like to know what inspired you to make a game like this — not just the dialog, but the images as well.
Thanks, everyone! Sorry for taking so long to heart your comments, things got in the way.
@local-minimum: Thanks for such a detailed reply and the video! Agree about the logs. I even forgot to change the default Godot scrollbar hover colour so you get a jarring light blue that doesn't fit in at all :') In retrospect I think it would've also been less confusing to just have a single log that included the player's replies so you can get all the context. Didn't have time to incorporate timestamps either, no :(
@gamebuilder: I wrote down the events leading up to the death on the first day and the plan was to reveal it all through photos and dialogue but I just couldn't get it done on time. But there were definitely still some things I still needed to figure out by the end. As for inspiration, I guess I often go for fuzzy graphics (I like the feeling of them but it's also easier when I'm short on time), and I do like a mystery and I wanted to try and write one.
I think its a very nice game, I love the audio mixing when the screams transition into the crow sounds, but the ending feels very underwhelming considering the way you raised atmosphere before crushing, idk it didn't really feel like a much of a plot twist, so im guessing the main character killed his girlfriend when drunk and didn't even know? Im not sure if thats the story. Overall I love such games and yours its just amazing, good job and keep it up!
Are you planning to develop this further in some form? As a proof of concept this is absolutely incredible. I love the visual style and the way it's paired with a clue/deduction style gameplay. As someone who plays a lot of adventure games this is legitimately exciting to me. Your modest disclaimer made me think the game was literally broken in some form but no, it's just short, as jam games typically are. It's honestly pretty feature complete in that sense, and impressively polished. Just, awesome work all around. I hope you'll be able to flesh this out further in a full game if that's something you'd want to do.
Thank you both so much :)
@klemen: I agree it probably looks that way as is, but it was not my intended ending, no :(
@smidgens: We'll see! I'll make a decision after the rating period. I don't usually do post-jam anything but it might be nice this time.
This is such a cool idea! I like a good mystery and deduction so I'd love to play something more fleshed out. I'm guessing there was more questioning planned and then using the logs to maybe find contradictions for example. Graphics and sounds are great and set the mood. Definitely potential here!
It would be really unfortunate if I did not encounter this one. Visual style is one of the most stylish games in LD55 I've played. I like the gameplay which is reminiscent of Ace Attorney and Danganronpa. As for the ambition part, I am a victim too, so I feel you. Jokes aside, it's quite complete for a jam game. Excellent job!
Thank you two! Lots more was planned, yes. Glad you liked what I did manage to finish :')
I see — too bad you ran out of time. I think you are on the right track with the graphics, judging from the comments here. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you come up with next time.
I like the visuals. There's something about them having no discernable facial features that works really well here. It's a shame about your time issues as this was shaping up into a great game. The mechanic of connecting details to further the story has so much potential. I hope you continue developing it. Good stuff :8ball:
The art style is great! And I like the idea behind the game. Shame you run out of time, but that happens during game jams :) The sound effects were a bit too loud in comparison to music, especially the first one as the game starts, but that would be my only complain. Good job with the game!
Found this interesting, the art style and the sfx is good too. Made me curious to see a full version of the game!
very nice art style
Very ambitious for a LD! I like the background music, and the visual style works well.
Absolutely adore the aesthetics of this game, just beautiful work!
Thanks to you all as well! :) Wrapping this up with the initial sketch for posterity:
