Well thats downright cute. Its a Meowsterpiece, just Purrfect. Its the Cats Meow. The effor you put into this is nothing to scratch at. Great job :cat2:

@locksmitharmy This is the best first comment 🥲 thank you for playing!

jsmcag 2024-04-16 09:49

You get to conjure cats, what's not to like?!

Really fun infinite runner, the theme is very cute. I love that knocking things down is rewarded! It's fun that all cats have their own use. The spotted cat ended up being my main, but there were lots of situations where another cat is more advantageous.

adrmille 2024-04-18 01:08

Honestly had a great time playing. Getting a hit in with striped cat feels extremely good, great work with the juice!

andrew-michienzi 2024-04-18 01:21

I had such a good time platforming as a cat. I thought the summoning powers were fun and I needed all of them to play! nice work!

aivaxela 2024-04-18 01:58

@jsmcag - really interesting that you say that because here I was afraid the spotted cat was going to be the least used!

@adrmille - yessss! The satisfying *clunk* with the striped cat is exactly what I was going for :)

@andrew-michienzi - I'm very happy the 5 cats came out as balanced as they did :)

Thank you all for playing!

Fun little endless runner! The graphics were simple, but charming and likewise with the audio. I liked that you literally just chuck the striped cat at the rival cat lol. Other than it being a little short on content (par for the course for LD games :stuck_out_tongue:) I think my main critique is that having to use five number keys plus space to jump on one hand was a bit awkward, perhaps moving jump to left mouse/attack with right mouse or something similar would have helped. Also, I know it says you're "summoning cats" but I can't help but feel that's a little bit of a stretch to meet the theme lol. Regardless, I enjoyed it. That said, it _would_ be nice to have a score counter or something to give you an objective to shoot for. Maybe a leaderboard too? :eyes:

drgcandle 2024-04-18 03:25

Regardless of what others say, I absolutely adore cats. For me, this is a bonanza of cat games, hooray! Moreover, your game is so entertaining that I found myself laughing throughout the entire play experience. I wholeheartedly thank you for bringing such a fun game to us; it's bound to put me in a good mood for the whole day.

On a side note, friend, you might consider providing more gifs of your cats on the game's main page. They are so adorable that many people, including myself, would love to collect them:D

aivaxela 2024-04-18 19:17

@guitarbro - thank you for the feedback!!! Yes it is more "transforming" than summoning lol, the original idea was that the black cat was the "main" character that would summon the other 4 cat friends to help, but this being a Compo, time for lore was very limited! Same goes for the score counter etc - I actually had an ending scene that added up all the rats you caught (The game would end after about 3 minutes), but it had too many bugs and the deadline was coming up too quickly so it didn't make it in :( Thank you for playing!!

@drgcandle - I'm so glad that you enjoyed it :') I very much enjoyed creating it and play-testing it myself. That is a good idea about the extra gifs, perhaps I shall add more! Thanks for playing!

The double jump puffer fish cat was my favorite.

zuhairghias 2024-04-19 00:30

That was pretty satisfying once I got the hang of it.

My favorite was striped cat. I loved the way he absolutely yeets the cat'erang.

ungarblapp 2024-04-19 05:38

Top Marks! Great Fun! I was laughing even though I was losing! Really Good stuff, Great Work!

deltamain 2024-04-20 15:08

Cute game! It is pretty fun to knock down stuff ngl

digitaliliad 2024-04-20 15:57

I was way more engrossed in this than I thought I would be, especially since I'm not a cat-person ;) thank you for sharing @aivaxela! I had a lot of fun playing

nozomu57 2024-04-20 17:44

I should admit that I gave it 5 stars on fun and innovation, and I mean it.

Yes, it looks goofy, yes, you can't see white cursor on white background (and thus can't aim properly). Yes, I could just play as small cat (5th), just let hands off the keyboard and still have points go up... But when I tried to optimise point gain, it was super fun to switch between different cats (mainly between striped attacker, double-jumper and small). This is a fun core mechanic which, if you were to continue this game, could lead to a solid game.

Keep up the good work!

aivaxela 2024-04-21 14:16

@nozomu57 oh man I hadn't even considered the white cursor issue! And yes...small cat OP haha... Glad you still had fun and thanks for playing!

wicked 2024-04-23 00:42

Amazing entry!

I almost died laughing when I saw the 4th cat flying out lol.

I think this one is pretty complete for the Jam, it can be played for quite a while even without a hard objective/end condition. I wish I could lower the volume/mute (didn't find it if it is in), but that is pretty minor. Great job!

thebigjut 2024-04-23 03:13

The atmosphere is very well done here! The music, sound effects, and graphics tie together very well to give it a cute, fun vibe! I think you also nailed making it just challenging enough that it became very satisfying once I memorized which cat was on which number, and I could quickly switch between them depending on where the next rat was. Would love to see the game get a little harder the further you get, or some other way to add depth. Thanks for sharing!

kseniya 2024-04-23 12:35

A very nice game! with cute cats

dan-allison 2024-04-25 19:17

This was really fun and the different cats were designed in clever enough ways to all feel useful in their own way. The is really cute and the animations are great - the poofy cat and the cat burglar animations were favourites of mine. Really solid game and a fun way to interpret the theme, well done.

fupi 2024-04-25 21:45

This is so fun!! There's few mechanics for you to learn, but endless strategies to come up with. I mained the mini cat for catching mice + the fighter cat for defeating the burglar. Only switching to the black cat once I needed more summoning juice. If there's one thing I could say, is that there could be some indication on screen of which numbers spawn which cat, or maybe have it UI buttons. The cats automatically jumping on the couches also threw me off a couple times, so maybe that could work differently as well. Regardless, I had a lot of fun with this one, feels like a game I could spend several minutes on without realizing! Also the animation of the cats running is just marvelous.

cassowary 2024-04-27 18:41

This is cute! I agree with some of the critiques above, it might be nice to have an on-screen reminder of which cat was which and it might be nice to have some way that the game gets harder over time so that the player is eventually forced to lose -- as is, you can kind of just leave it on mini-cat running in the background and very slowly accrue points! Overall though this is very nice, the graphics are super cute, love the cat animations and the way the different cats work together mechanically is cool!

kanity 2024-04-28 13:58

Played for a while and figured it was endless x) Really cute idea, and it was fun trying out different cats with their little quirks ^^ The design is cool, the cats are cute (tiny one is my favourite but fluffy is also adorable when it poofs out!) and the premise is simple but unique, I liked it a lot! Only I think regular cat might be a bit useless rn (I understand it is our default but I ran only with her at the start for a while and couldn't catch any rats ;_;)

aivaxela 2024-05-02 18:21

@wicked - thanks for playing! yes I was absolutely cackling when I created the 4th cat's animation lol

@thebigjut - thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge! I was afraid it was going to be too difficult especially considering I didn't have time for in-game controls. I'm pretty happy with how it turned though!

@kseniya - thanks for playing!

@dan-allison - thanks for playing, I'm glad you had fun! I had a lot of fun designing the poofy cat

@fupi - thanks for the feedback! yes if I had just another couple hours I would have definitely added in-game controls, the game as it is you kinda gotta lose a few rats before you get a hang of things.

@cassowary - yeah the mini cat ended up being my favorite too, especially since the game is endless. I originally was going to have the game be maybe 2 or 3 minutes long, which would entice you to more strategically switch between cats, but that didn't make the cut haha.

@kanity - Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the artwork, I had a lot of fun with the designs. yeah the black/purple cat doesn't do anything special, I think the main purpose of her is that she is free to swap to so you can get back up onto the counters for free if you are the mini cat
