boo you monster! shouldn't have trusted the humans

I had difficulty understanding what each person was saying due to the mic quality changing overtime but I enjoyed the game, it could use more enemy varieties and a big bad boss but you can only do so much in a game jam. nice game
@0x-void-x0 Yeah that was a major problem when recording the audio, I was using my own voice with a voice changer + changing the pitch of my voice so it was really hard to get it steady while straining my throat lol, i was also planning on different monsters and bosses but I'm still an inexperienced developer with godot so i wasnt exactly sure how to do it
@congeesetador hey. give yourself a pat in the back my friend you made a good game! also, you made all the voices in the game yourself? what the heck? I thought there were at least 3 people involved in recording voices lol you're really convincing
@0x-void-x0 Yup it was all done by me! It was a lot of fun making them but my throat did not like it one bit, I made everything in the game myself cuz in my opinion it makes it a lot better trying to get a guy to do a girl voice lol
That ending made me laugh out loud; +1 on the writing! The gameplay is admittedly a little simple, but the combat difficulty feels just right---there were several moments where I wasn't sure I was going to make it out alive, and that feels great.
And other people have said this before me, but you should *absolutely* be proud of yourself for the voice acting. It may not be very understandable (and I feel terrible saying this, sorry! I don't want to discourage you!), but getting out there and *doing it* is awesome. And the music was good too!
@literally-void Thank you for the feedback! I agree the gameplay was simple but that was just due to time constraints, since i was busy a lot throughout the jam i couldn't make it as complicated as i wanted, originally i wanted to make an upgrade system with abilities but i just didn't have enough time to implement
Hey buddy, I'm up and now chowing down while playing your game. Seriously tough, trying not to die laughing and getting food down the wrong pipe. Your game is fantastic, with the perfect level of challenge and great sound effects – it's incredibly polished. Looks like our team has a lot to learn from you. Hats off, my friend.
@drgcandle Thank you for the feedback! I was also laughing really hard when making the dialogue and then it got even worse when I actually did the voice lines, I cant tell you how many times I had to redo the voice line because it had me laughing
Played the itch.io version, for some reason i couldnt get any item or do anything beside talking to all the people, couldnt progress into the game. Good effort man for working by yourself!
@silverice Yeah sorry about that, I mainly made the itch version for a friend that's super careful about the virus warnings, so I really didn't know how well it would work compared to actually downloading the game itself, if you download the exe file it should work perfectly fine!

hm, I downloaded the exe from here and similar to silverice above I could only talk to people and shoot lasers. I tried some buttons randomly to see if there was an inventory of some kind but even the scientist on the bottom didn't seem to offer me paint.
I do love me some expanded lore though.
@ultrarat That seems to be a big problem on my end, I wasn't able to make a ui in time but I edited the description to add a walkthrough of who to talk to first and then continue down the line so you can get to the main part of the game, the NPC part was just a little side mission because I felt the game was a little too boring, hope this helps!
Cool idea, needs some polishing tho. Voices i saw the reply before, you did whatyou could, this still is a game jam whit very limited time, it is understandable. our project too has a lot of missing parts due to some irl issues. Nice idea tho good job
I love the gameplay!
@dudubertoldev @raimondosenpai thank you for the feedback! And yeah it sadly wasn't as polished as I wanted it to be in the end, it was my first time ever doing voice dialogue so it was quite an experience but I learned how to do it so I can polish it in future jams!

the gameplay is pleasant, but the visual is harsh and looks unfinished
@kseniya yeah i forgot to opt out of graphics now that i think of it, im a solo developer with only experience in programming and nothing else so graphics isn't my strong suit whatsoeer if anything its my biggest problem, thank you for the feedback!
A bit rough around the edges but really good gameplay, had a blast !

Audio effects made by humans voice - are the best one.
It's a nice try. I loved voice acting especially :)

The gameplay mechanics in this game are so intuitive! It's like the controls become an extension of your own instincts. Plus, the art style adds a unique flair that keeps you engaged throughout. Definitely a gem worth exploring!

sounds are really funny love it but i would like some subtitles for understanding but other than that its good.
It's unfortunate that the audio quality of the voicelines is so bad, but I'm gonna assume that's something you can't do much about. Though it would have been nice if you increased the volume at least.
The long distances between the characters means you need to do a lot of walking, and even more walking if you don't know the order of the characters you need to talk to. The voice lines are funny, but it would have been nice if it was possible to skip them somehow, and that you don't need to wait till the end of the audio before you get the thing they give you. I wasn't sure what to do at the end, other than survive as long as possible.

It's an interesting concept, good job!
The pixel art is really enjoyable and consistent. :)
I appreciate the voice acting effort as it's an underrated craft. Normalizing the audio by paying attention to the peak volume using a program like audacity should help you in the future. Although, for a short game jam like this, it might save you time to go for subtitled text and focus more on the UI and experience for first time players (since every reviewer is a first time player). I think the stoner and drinking character are definitely spot on XD.
I followed the order of talking to people presented by the guide provided in the description, but couldn't progress any further... at first. I didn't realize that I even picked up anything or that I needed to listen to characters talk more than once to acquire or deliver items! I would love to see items/icons pop up in the UI to show what my character is holding, so I know I've acquired the item needed for the next step. It would help if the next character I spoke to was just surprised that I was already holding what they needed, instead of going through their first dialogue, should the occasion arise (more work I know!).
After triggering the most straight forward win state, I was curious.... if I lose or go back down to the lab, would the robots would start killing the scientists. Unfortunately they didn't. That could be an exciting motivation for multiple playthroughs. :)
Well done on following the theme with a futuristic approach and developing a game by yourself. :)
@trevor-lentz Thank you for the suggestion for fixing the audio! I originally planned on it being text UI but I didn't know how to make it work so I used voice lines as a replacement, I wanted to try a more advanced audio software but almost everything I find is really overwhelming and not having any knowledge in music makes it hard to understand what I'm doing, I actually did think about adding the aliens attacking the scientists but I simply didn't have enough time to make it happen thus why the UI is also lacking
@congeesetador I would highly recommend checking out some Audacity tutorials on Youtube! They've helped me many times while trying to record sound effects, voice, and music for developers I work with. Audacity is free and pretty darn easy to record and just have fun! There are also loads of tutorials on Youtube for any questions you might have/search. :)
@trevor-lentz I'll be sure to check that out! Hopefully it'll get me better quality for future jams, so far the only thing I've been using for music is chrome music lab since it was extremely simple for someone with 0 music experience, being solo really makes you have limited resources to use especially as a beginner

Always happy to see a game with voiceover! But little nitpick: I am sure many of people in this LD are not native English speakers, and understanding human speech w/o subtitles might be hard. Especially as it was a bit echo-y and we had different speakers with their own way of speaking. Yes, it sounds realistic and I like the voice acting job here, but it's a bit hard for me to understand a lot of what they are saying. If you continue updating this game in the future, I strongly suggest adding subtitles. And maybe work a bit on the quality of the audio (so it's more clear). Especially since their lines are crucial for understanding what you need to do in order to advance in the game.
I activated all my ears (unfortunately I only have two) and focused on trying to get what the guys are saying and went between all these scientists to complete their requests.
I like the design of the robot, how he looks overgrown with moss or vines. If in the future you add a little shadow below him, that would be fantastic. All the scientists seem to have their own personality, which is great!
Having two types of gameplay was nice and refreshing. I had fun battling the demons. It wasn't too hard, but not boring (I finished with 50 hp, I believe). Adding a visual effect on demon when it dies will go a long way! Also, the summoning circles are really colourful and pretty.
WTH the ending T_T Should've left these demons get those humans :') snippet.jpg
@kanity thank you for the feedback and tips to improving the art! I used the voicelines as a test for future games to see how much of a difference it made when it came to peoples ratings and from the looks of it I will continue using them for now on! I will work to make the quality a lot better in the future as I train my throat to actually handle the strain of the different voices, art is not one of my strongsuits at all so getting advice on making it better is really helpful to me! It took me around 2 hours to figure out how to even make the walls 3D looking so they actually looked like walls

@congeesetador the voice over is 100% a great addition to the game, it makes it feel more alive and helps the immersion, and I think you did great doing different voices in terms of them really sounding different, just needs to be clearer and better quality sound wise, yes ^^ and I am also not an expert in art, self-taught and still learning, and I think for what you had in the game you did a great job. Palette wise, it looked coherent, yes the first space is too big and empty (that's more design-wise though) and style is simple, but simplicity isn't necessarily bad. And yeah making stuff more 3D looking in 2D is mostly about shadows (and light, but shadow is the most important part) and perspective. That's why some 2D games would have a more "top-down" view - also to create an illusion of 3D ^^
