Cool idea. I had to play it a few times to understand. It is not obvious which card/chef will be cooking which food. ALso im not sure if it was how samll everything was but it seemd liek the "cow chef" was actually slower on teh hamburder and cake not just the cake. Great audio, nice looking game.

@milano23 Thanks for the feedback! We tried to make who cooks what as clear as possible in our limited time, but it seems there is still some room to improve! :) The chef you are mentionning is not supposed to be slower on the hamburger, but we'll check. Thanks for the heads-up!
Really original idea, I like it. But I feel that the 3 card types and 2 slots are too few for me to be able to really have to think

Interesting game! I like it!

The idea is fun. It's a little short to play but cool. Missing being able to put it in fullscreen. I like the graphics.
Had some trouble starting the game as I initially didn't have Java installed. After downloading it the jar worked, but the exe still gave me the "no java" error.
It's a very funny idea and I understood the concept pretty fast. My only issue with the game itself is the randomness of the chefs you get and the food you are required to make. Happened to me twice that I had to make four burgers in a row but only got the Pigs, who dislike cooking them. But keep up the work. Always nice to see poeple coding the game more or less directly in a programming language :)
Ohhh... and my best score was 10!

Fun idea, really liked the characters and the cards. Felt like it would've been good with a bit faster pace and more tasks, mostly I was just waiting and hoping that I would get the card that I needed.

Thanks for the feedback @lelek-hunor-kadosa @kirass @cozary @archaeognathus @theheheo!
We agree that more cards and more foods would have been better, but we lacked time to do so. We are definitively planning to add some more content to the game in the future though! :) The balacing probably has issues as well, we are noting down all your feedbacks!
Sorry for the "no java" error, I must admit we tried to make an executable in the very last hour so it probably isn't perfect (but a great way to learn!). Overall this jam was a way for us to try our hand at coding a game in Java to keep on learning it and discover how to handle many things :)
@archaeognathus Best score of 10, congrats! I think my highest score was 7 or 8, so you are probably the world leader at Chefs from the Dead! :D

Hey I tried but getting java error. I can comment on the looks of the game from the screenshots. Its looks good and original. Concept is simple enough that i think i will like it. Waiting for proper build.

hell's kitchen) are you planning a build for other platforms?

@human @heretic Yes, we will try to make a HTML build this week to make it easier for people to play it!

@human @heretic As promised, the HTML build is up! You can try it on the itch.io page, it should work fine from my quick tests this morning :)
Cool game. Once I realised that different chefs were good and bad at different recipes, it made a lot more sense I didn't get better at the game, unfortunately, but at least I understood what I __should__ be doing. Sometimes you get a bit screwed by RNG when you have 4 cakes to make and you don't get any pigs, for example.
I like the art style and the music adds some nice energy.
Overall, good work!
I had fun playing your game, I played 3 rounds and scored an 8 (i blame bad luck on the draws for not getting a 10 :P) Music is great, The art is clear and the gameplay is engaging. I found the game rules to be pretty intuitive, with the two little arrows pointing up and down next to the icons for what each card is good at.
It's just a hypothesis on my part, but I think the reason some of the players found it unintuitive at first is that by default the game window is not very big, and the icons and symbols are pretty small. That may make them harder to notice at first. I often magnify my browser view for my old-man-eyes, which made me think. Anyway, great game! :D
The concept is interesting! If you add some more intensity with more cards at a time and, for example, make time limit for each dish but give more time in game overall, it'll create a quick-paced arcade experience to quickly throw out cards that fit the situation the best. But maybe you'll find some other approach! Nice art :)

Fun and interesting concept but I feel that only 2 chef cards is really too limited and the start of the game is really luck dependant (I often start with a recipe that is the weakness of my two cards) But nonetheless it's a good entry and I really like the reference in this one. Good job !

@risminator Thanks! Good ideas, we planned on having more of everything (more cards in the hand of the player, more different chefs, more chefs cooking at the same time, more meals) but we ran out of time so we ended up doing a basic approach of "how much can you make in X seconds" ^^
@garywiss Thank you! Yep, 2 cards is a bit limited but with only 3 chefs and 3 meals, it seemed to be the best balance we could achieve. We do plan on expanding it with more diversity ;)

Interesting game with cards and chiefs !
Gameplay wise, it seems a bit limited currently with only 2 oven and 2 cards at a time, and they take the first 2 dishes of the list as well. I often ended up with 2 same cards and the 2 dishes on the list were the weakness of the chief to appear  . So I feel like we don't have much choices.
I think it would have been nice to be able to discard some dishes or to re-order them. On my first run, I thought the chief would automatically take the dish he is best at among the 4 displayed, haha.
Overall, good job on this entry ! :tada:

@gcake Ooooh the idea the chef would only make specific dishes could make for some interesting mechanics, let me note that down :D
Thanks for the feedback!
Love the idea of summoning chefs to cook the meals. Perhaps add some cards to buff the chef's performance? Nice graphics, good work!
Cute game, but I feel like the gameloop could definitely have been expanded upon, really liked the idea of chefs and your graphics were great

The game looks simple, and visual style is not my taste, BUT I think it works for the humourous effect quite well, **and** I actually enjoyed playing! I love cooking, especially baking, but don't know much about celebrity chefs, I suppose, as I only recognized Gordon (right away though, before seeing the name, so good job!)
I didn't get much luck with Pig Pastry chef, he seemed to be a bit rare (or I really just wasn't lucky as it's probably randomized!)
I tried my best, but I suppose it ain't that easy!

The idea is cool imo, mechanic is simple but well thought-out, with different strength & weaknesses. Animation is also simple, but effective. I had fun, thanks! x3

Interesting idea, and perfect length for a game jam! I am not sure if I can add anything else that hasn't been said before. Could be made mode hectic by having even more chefs at once!

It's great to see a Java game with libgdx ^^ it brings back a lot of memories.
The idea is really cool, the gameplay is simple but the idea is there and it works.
I had trouble getting high scores, on a few games I was mostly between 4 and 6 points.
The game lacks a bit of polish/feedback to be as strong as your previous ones and we probably lack a bit of control over the game to optimize the score a bit.
A bit more variety would have been nice too.
But in any case, great job being able to do that, it's not that easy with libgdx, well done ;)
PS: There are some integration issues on the web version, you can see the scrollbars and it's missing a full screen button if possible.

I think this was a good idea. Trying to figure out who to spawn was a bit of a challenge to do at the speed the game went at, but I think that was the point.
