Such a nice and coherent atmosphere you have created.
Who says that pixel art games can not be the most innovative?
Best entry so far!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → Users → HotByteDog

Who says that pixel art games can not be the most innovative?
Best entry so far!
The design raises good childhood memories and combines nicely with the background music.
With some kind more of a story around it could be something great for children. Maybe animals on a farm?
I love this crazy idea + good humor!
The game lacks something to feel like a complete action game.
It makes me await a roguelike/ interaction component.
Mechanic is solid.
Pixelart and especially animation look very nice.
Great entry.
Completely polished retro design.
However it seems like you have kept some kind debugging feature in the game: As soon as I press 2 the game over screen shows.
Art style is a total eye catcher and the music is something you want to keep listening for a pretty good while.
Unbelievable you put this together with all the other weekend activities with your family.
And in the end everything fits together perfectly.
You even considered the little things which contribute to the atmosphere, like that the music gets more drive when the game starts. Model also looks amazing.
Very solid shooter.
Has a tron likes cyber atmosphere with its neon design and sounds.
A more futuristic room scenario would be more fun for me.
Thank you for you constructive critics so far.
You help me a lot to fill the gap between all the ambitions and ideas in my head and my current programming skills.
The green things should be something hard I hate to hit the monsters: Candy :-D
Thanks fullmontis for playing that hard.
Yes I did not integrate the backward shooting.
I thought it would look too strange with shots coming from the back. Thanks for pointing out the frustrating aspect.
54 skulls: WOW! I never thought someone would get this far. Now I have a serious problem, because I guess this game will crash after 6 Levels or so :-D
Don't know. Felt kind of unfair, because "space" key is not so accurate and I got game over for like making the red line 1 nano meter over the grey box?
Anyway, the 60ies theme is greatly transferred and the setting is hilarious.
Hardworking fellows like insurance man, once made Amerika great ;-)
Your character is totally cute and nicely animated.
You guys have a true sense for creating an atmosphere. Sound, colours and characters are in good harmony.
But the game lacks mechanics. For this reason the player quickly looses the illusion he is in a fantasy world.
You can see the spawn timer of the monsters and the character is too slow and has difficulties climbing slopes.
After all the atmosphere is currently relaxing which fits more for a quest like game if you want a co op.
If you want a platformer, a lot more action in the scene would be one way to go.
I myself will take the valuable advices given from the community to change and add elements to my game and am already excited to see the before vs. after comparison.
Nice tricky little game.
I had to finish and forgot everytime a different thing a dozend times.
Would be a good educational game for kids.
Your company logo is awesome!
I totally like the artwork and the main character is nicely animated. The scratch jumping is a nice idea.
The controller needs more direct response and less sticking to edges on platforms.
Wow, this is an awful lot of game elements you managed to integrate
in this short time.
Took me too long to gather some coins for improvement.
Strategic rewards should be easier to access before you are overwhelmed by monsters.
The music is nicely composed, but the sacral touch is not my taste.
With an improved balancing this game concept is very innovative.
The main character was sometimes not so easy to control and got stuck at the desk.
I do not want to spoiler, but there are some nice movie like scenes in this game.
The 70ies synthie sound was a good choice.
Nice Idea and it feels really cool controlling the main character.
The camera could be somehow nearer to the action, cause now it's more like a building game view and not creepy action.
I missed a game over screen.
The story behind the game is pretty cool.
I just want to connect with someone, even a Coyote!
The music makes me feel comfortable.
Cool concept (art). More animations for Joseph, please.
Great combination of sticking to the theme and a really innovative game mechanic.
The pixel art style is an eye catcher.
For my taste this kind of cool arcade setting should not be controlled with mouse but with the arrow keys.
Mouse is combined with keys is too imprecise.
Make it faster + less health for the enemies + more enemies + more damage done by player. And every intermediate screen should be able to be clicked away at once.
After all one of the best arcade concepts here so far!
Music and sound effects are very exhilarating.
The game mechanic is solid and responsive.
However I did not figure out the deeper goal of the whole thing.
But it was fun, for a while :-)
Gameplay could be a bit quicker in total (moving the char and enemy seeking you perhaps). BG music is nice and fitting the scenario.
I like the "Type gaming" approach. Could be some kind of learning game, perhaps if you take a secret agent instead of a robot? I still think I must not make a mistake while typing this or otherwise this post crashes :-D
Colouring and audio build a sweet harmony.
In the web version I did not figure out how to interact.
Will try win tomorrow.
Great southparkish Design concept.
The poor humans seemed only to be dancing to the coal beat.
15000 something - damn, I nearly have beaten the dev :-)
A simple but cool idea.
Would be even more fun if there was something else to chase than a simple counter.
Anyway, for me a simple game rises and falls with the mechanic.
Your mechanic is top.
It's cool to see someone come up with a similar idea like your own :-)
You missed the same feature which is so important for long time motivation: The enemy kill counter needs to be visible during playtime. The kill sound is to loud.
The main character is very cute and nicely drawn. She deserves more animation states. I like the colouring and the mood it puts you in. Well done!
Perfect job!
This game is my absolute favourite in humor and won my special awards in the categories: Best vocal entry speach and best pixel art particle and gore effects.
Nice retro doom style.
The shading of the textures could be improved.
I liked the foggy poltergeist effects.
Maybe the cruzifix and candle should get some kind of recharge energy to make it more interesting?
Definitely needs some creepy sounds to contribute to the scary atmo.
I enjoyed graphics and audio a lot. Of all entries it gave me the most inspiration of what I could have done better with my entry.
Especially the hook and the interactive element with the obelisk are great. The need to use the hook could be introduced even earlier in the game.
Cool humor. I could play this one over and over again ;-)
Very cute and nicely animated main character.
Even the simplistic beat fits the scenario.
I know clubs where people dance to this kind of music the whole night.
Game was a bit laggy on my browser.
I could listen for hours and hours to this three guitar accords.
I liked the idea to control two characters simultaneously.
Was not sure about which fish to kill and which to explore, so I just killed all.
Pretty nice game that makes you feel like something you play with your friends in real life.
It took some time for me to figure out how the whole thing with the flare/flashlight works and the dialogue should be always in front of santa, so you do not have to walk around to read it.
Definitely one of the entries with the best art style and animations. Very inspiring design.
Fine and cute minimalistic pixel style. Driving beat that does not get on your nerves is cool. Good mechanic.
Some enemies should not pop out of nowhere. That gives a slight feeling of unfairness to the player.
Nice and easy. Perfect retro style.
Scary sweet music.
Where did they get all the lights and have no furniture?
I go to bed now and leave the lights on :-(
This is the best transfer of the theme after 30 votes I have taken.
Very nice Pixel Art, sound and atmo are really scary.
Did I mention that I love screen shakes?
Only thing: More votes than people on the platform is confusing. Perhaps you should be rewarded with more voting power or punished depending on your success in building alliances to make this system feel more "just"?
Cool Idea, very nice car models.
I am so bad at racing games. Fortunately this is not to hard.
Once got stuck between the wall. There should be a possibility to get on the road again in such cases.
Page could not load please check link
Very nice experimental design.
Good base for a FP game concept where you can explore an interesting world and do not have to kill all the time.
Pretty pixel art. Great humour and well balanced.
Damn, I found nothing to criticize on this fine piece of game art :-)
Pretty pixel art. Great humour and well balanced.
Damn, I found nothing to criticize on this fine piece of game art.
91 tips earned - godlike :-)
The quality of the transfer into a retro concept is delicious.
Many thanks for making me feel like I was 12 years old again :-)
Great sprite art and downtempo music bring me in a good feel mood.
Needs interaction with neutral or supportive characters and some items to make it more interesting.
BTW: love your tutorials ;-)
Nice surprise, that it was much easier to complete than I first thought. Reminds me of the frustrating docking maneuvers in "Elite" :-)
I was not able to concentrate on the soft voice of the narrator, because I already tried to figure out the controls.
Great atmosphere. Just lovely!
Smooth gameflow after update now.
I like the colouring and the drive of the music.
Especially the Pixel Particles look nice.
The slightly offensive story frame is not necessary to make it interesting.
Very good for a first Compo entry. Everything works fine and the game does not feel unfair or buggy at any point.
At least one doodle style game.
Poor little Caspars. They are way to cute to "kill" them.
The character feels to light, jumps to high or takes too much time to get back on the ground. I do not know exactly.
Definitely cool, minimalistic Pixelart and convincing background music.
Could be the base for a really cool story.
Nice casual game. Cute pixel art.
Perfectly fits for mobile.
Whenever game speed gives me too much time to think, I feel that I am missing an overall goal like reaching an exit or something similar.
To place the character in the right direction and then having to press shift is to complicated when enemies are near. I prefer the arrows for moving and a,s,d,w for shooting in the right direction.
The audio is great. I could listen to this for hours.
And of course the room coming out of the shadow is a cool creative move.
Sweet expression on the bartenders face.
Movement could be smoother and more weapons. The kirmes techno made me even more aggressive (lol)
Give me a total 80ies arcade feeling.
If I was 12 again, I would spend my whole pocket money for it.
Sweet 70ies disco feeling in every pixel and note of this game. This calls for more action like getting good scores for special moves on the the dance floor, e.g. making the flipping in a 6 times combo or so.
Controlling the player works fine and the perspective looks good, too.
I would avoid splitting up controls in keyboard and mouse for anything that is not first person perspective. Perhaps just my taste.
I think camera movement is not necessary and perhaps irritating, because it's just one room.
It's cool to see an idea set in your place, if you have thought about something with time travel yourself without getting a clue.
It's even cooler if its such a crazy and funny concept.
The relation of the objects to the news outcome was not so obvious to me.
But the mood you created with the nice music from each decade and stimulating the players fantasy is superb!
Very cute coherent artwork and sound.
I especially liked the way you establish the vague terror with the sound and the screen shaking.
I would wish for a quicker rise in difficulty.
Lovely artwork, cool sound nice idea.
Feels like a session von C64.
I cleaned so much, now my "real life" apartment is a total mess :-D
I liked the mood the scenario puts you in.
You even managed to integrate upgrades!
Pepe looks gorgeous. I would like to see a game with him as a main character.
Most innovative control of all entries.
Audio Theme is great, too.
Solid platformer with a lot of nice surprises and a well built mechanic.
I liked the ugly slimy monsters which seemed to beg for being released from existence.
The main character could need a bit more shape of a character ;-)
So cool to see a factory seem put into place.
I was thinking about that kind very hard, too.
Could use some kind of intermediate or final goal or at least a way you would loose.
What a lovely homage to Ludum Dare.
It communicates in a very funny way the essence of what it is all about to participate.
Your Audio is exceptional as always.
Very nice entry. Especially graphics and animation.
I think I would have scored better than C and 74% if it was not mum but my date who would come over to inspect my place ;-)
Cool idea!
Beautiful and polished graphics and very solid gameplay.
The ball needs more mass and the flippers more force so you get the feeling you can destroy the field with any shot you take.
Please add more action to the scene, like overcooking pots, smashing eggs or some weird cook. That would make me hooked on the game :)
This is what I always wanted to do in real life.
Really fun and cool music.
You should implement a hint of how much damage points are possible.
Brilliant how you implemented the dungeon theme. It would not relate to the competition theme at all in my mind, even after 1000 years of thinking.
My absolute favourite so far!
Yeah! Nobody died!
The room has a lovely design (wallpaper, light, shadows) which brings you in the right atmosphere.
Characters could be designed more vivid, detailed.
I enjoyed playing. Thanks!
Nice approach to mix match3 / Tetris with 2d action.
This is like a prototype on which you can build a lot of ideas.
What to aim for was not clear to me, so I shot on everything. This should be more obvious, perhaps with some kind of short ingame tutorial hints.
Graphic and Atmosphere make me longing for more.
Unfortunately I got stuck with my Character in HTML right at the start next to a closet.
Cute sprites and smooth controller.
I have a similar problem in my game: after the characters follow you a while, they tend to melt together on one spot.
