Really great atmosphere :)
Fits the idea greatly. The simple graphics work well.

Interesting take on the theme. I like the lighting mechanic.

I don't get it :(
Nice intro with the music, though.

Very nice mood! I expected a gameplay, though. Or at least something to happen when I reached the gate.

The atmosphere is great but I'm missing the point, I don't get why moving is so slow.

Honestly I quit after 2 day night cycles. The intro was nice but there was nothing to keep my interest. I understand you were going for more of an experience than a game. By that standard, outstanding. Good job.

Really well done with a great atmosphere. No gameplay, but a weird experience ++

This is definitely evocative of the boredom of incarceration. As that was the intent, it's a success. The line artwork was neat - it would have been cool if the prisoner were drawn the same way or animated somehow. I think it would have been neat if there had been some way to interact with the cell, also, but I guess the point was not to be able to do anything. White noise sound and the cello music at the start were effective, and the subtle lighting changes were a cool touch.

Interesting idea and concept, but the game doesn't really draw me in. It looks good, the sound conveys the feeling of loneliness and isolation which is awesome, but lack of action or some cutscenes or even some monologue kinda bores me instead of making me feel interested.
I'm sure if you had more time you could've shown how the player gradually descends into madness as a result of being placed in this "modern prison" which is really just a big solitary made to drive inmates insane.
Ultimately the idea is fantastic and i'd love to see you keep working on this in the future!

Some gameplay would have been great, but okay I assume that life in a prison also is pretty boring.

alobker 2016-12-30 20:07

You have the start of something very nice here.
Next time you should invite some friends and do the jam. I'm sure you can crack the top 100 in a few categories.

I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do. I'm not sure if you intended the player to feel isolated or just ran out of time, but I didn't really feel isolated anyway. I was confused as to what was happening.

themonsterfromthedeep 2016-12-30 23:19

I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to get out of this, so I didn't really enjoy it that much. The intro worked very well, but after that - nothing happened. I suppose that may be the point, but I find it to be unsatisfactory.

Most of the artwork is really good, except the prisoner does not match the rest at all, and feels out of place.

Movement seems to be really slow. If this really is meant to convey isolation, I believe movement should be faster - in real life, I can walk the length of a bed in a second.

redbutton 2016-12-31 15:44

The intro is great, the camera movement and the atmosphere, too.
About the rest I don't know. I mean, it's a game contest, isn't it? So I would expect more game like elements even in an art style entry.

I like the topic you've selected for the "one room" theme. It's a very interesting work, imprisonment made gameplay, and very well made. If a game can explain what is to be in jail, this must be very close to do it. It doesn't let you interact with anything, it doesn't let you see beyond your cell... well, that's to be in an isolation cell. Graphics are pretty simple but help to preserve the dark mood.

dollarone 2017-01-03 01:44

Very moody stuff. In terms of the theme I think you're spot on. Would be fun to make it an events-based story (not necessarily a game) but perhaps there wasn't time. Randomly I made something similar for a 1hgj: http://dollarone.games/games/1hgj73/

Really like the intro and I think the graphics and music work really well!
