LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Delay the Flood by Rialgar 2022-04-05T23:02:56Z

Awesome idea. I like the simple, clean implementation. :-) It was so much fun, i kept playing and playing. It's very motivating to just try one more time. Very well done!

Detour by Dustyroom 2022-04-06T12:21:55Z

Your game is awesome! I like it very much. So calm and very interesting in its idea, which fits to the theme very well. This was very fun to play. I like that this is a puzzle game and i like the many possibilities you have. Music and sounds and graphics are nice, relaxing and the latter very nice to look at and clean in its style. I like that much. And I like the pathfinding, which really helps to orientate yourself. Very well done!

Descending by pev 2022-04-06T08:22:02Z

very cool! I like your game. Like others already wrote, i like the difficulty increase. For a long time i imagined i would "beat" the erosion. But then it went so difficult and fast, that i just wasn't fast enough with my mouse. Your pixel sprites are cool! <3 And i think that you implemented your idea in a simple, but very well functioning way. This was fun! :-)

Inevitable Garden Infestation by patwork 2022-04-06T12:37:48Z

Very cool game! I liked it! :-) It was so cool to see, whenever i drove one bunny away and turned back to the field, 5 times more were on the field already. This was so fun to realize HOW inevitable the demise of my carrots would be. Then i switched the strategy to defending only one carrot. But the horde of around 30-40 bunnies just overwhelmed my defenses and ate the last carrot in no time. Fun! :) Very well made! :) :carrot:

Farming until bankruptcy by atomicptr 2022-04-04T21:50:11Z

I like this much! This is a cute game and i spend much time on it. Due to the lack of "how much for the next payment" indicator i kept on starting the game to earn an even bigger buffer of money to be sure that it is enough. Though it seems that there is an exponential rise to the next payment sum? Anyway: the turn-based limitation is very fun to think about the most effective strategy to plow and seed the field. I enjoyed playing your game a lot. Very well done! :-)

Cyber Space Ninja X-treme 2000 by jaoel 2022-04-04T22:34:15Z

cool! i like what @maki-maki wrote: "Tron with swords". :D Exactly. I love this look. The button enemies are weird though. ;) The game idea itself is a simple one, i judge, but the execution of that is great. I love the stomping thing with this loud stomping noise. Although i don't know why or what this is, but it adds to the atmosphere in a very good way, and the stomping sound adds a lot to the drama/action of the game. :-)

Last Bastion by sansman01 2022-04-04T22:13:59Z

I like the art style most. Especially how clean it is designed with standing at the place which you want to build/upgrade and then instantly be able to do so. I wish i would have more time in between the waves especially since the level is quite big to navigate through. Watching the towers do their "work" is satisfying as always with this kind of game, although i have to admit i didn't play so long, as i kept dying quite fast and often. But then again, it's inevitable, isn't it? :)

Blizzard by FallingFlatStudios 2022-04-08T08:32:48Z

This is so beautiful. I like the different layers of graphics and audio, making the environment really rich and easy to immerse myself within it. I like your pixel art much(!) and i like the physics you made/used with moving. This isn't my kind of game, any game with spikes and trying it again and again ;-), but the audio and visuals and movement made it very satisfying for me to play. <3

Click to Continue by Daniel Foutz 2022-04-05T23:35:36Z

I like experimental games. The game was not much fun for me, the first few clicks yes, but it quickly grew old and i didn't like the bad things/stuff/killing. Still, i kept on clicking out of curiosity. So i see what you did there. And you did it very well. Very cool and interesting game as an experiment and it got me thinking about why i click and when and why i hesitate. So this game works well, i imagine. In the end i felt rewarded with the nice music. Very well done!

Tree loves Sun by AppoxGames 2022-04-04T09:28:40Z

Oh this is beautiful! :-) I like to try and grow myself a beautiful tree. This is a nice game to use as a sandbox kind of game to just be creative and grow something nice. I like the sun/moon mechanic and it is very satisfying to collect the flowers. :-) Well made!

Reversary by AploveStudio 2022-04-06T10:54:25Z

Thank you for this beautiful game! This was so awesome, in every regard. The music is perfect, the sounds are awesome, especially the starting sound, when the big guy raises his sword. Reminded me of Crawl, which i adore. The art style is suberb. It fits the mood and is very satisfying with all those animations. The idea itself is very good, too. I like how you fit the delay the inevitable into such a delightful fighting game and with such a captivating story. For me, the fighting wasn't repetitive at all, since the tactics and difficulty and thus pace of a fighting round changed with every level. Giving the characters such a beautifully told background story made me to not wanting to stop and i was actually sad when I (the big guy) died. So ... many words from me, in trying to tell you how much(!) i enjoyed the game. Very well done. For me, the best game in the jam so far.

One more thing: Please update the game with a story mode later. I want to see, how the relationship between the two evolves, without worrying about being killed by Paige.

Foster The Beeples by Deylinia 2022-04-06T13:29:46Z

very cute :-) This is not the kind of games i like to play, so i didn't rate the fun category. But i like the art and cuteness of the game. :)

Cat in the Bag by JoshH 2022-04-04T21:19:18Z

What beautiful art! I like this very much. And i also like the simple, but great idea with the cat. It's a very beautiful puzzle game for me and intriguing to pay attention to the text to guess which item would be the best. Sadly, the 0 button doesn't work for me. And at one point, a blue error screen appeared. This diminished the fun for me, but i see your idea and the general implementation of that is wonderful. Well done! <3

CAT SLEEP PROTECT by tutoa 2022-04-06T13:14:46Z

This is such a cute game. Wonderful! I like the stretching and curling and moving and rolling of the cats. So adorable. Wonderful how you turned this kind of cat dragging into a little puzzle/dexterity game. :-) <3

Fight or Flight by chertkov 2022-04-21T15:40:13Z

Very well made! I like the graphics, the music and the overall mood of running (flying) for your live. Well implemented idea, fitting to the theme, as a tower defense game. From what i played i would judge you made an ideawise very well made strategic design between deciding how to assign the workers on your defense on on the possibility to escape. I like this dilemma as a strategy idea.

Cat Fragmentator by Recher 2022-04-06T11:59:25Z

I like your idea, of defragmenting the images. So simple, but so satisfying, when you cut the images exactly in the way there should be. This is very unique, i judge. Well done! :-) I also appreciate you for the use of cat images. <3

Malpractice by ikelucas 2022-04-06T11:26:39Z

Not really my favorite setting, to admit. But as a game idea: well made! The different things to do, to interact. I liked how you would learn to remember to lookout for every clue to what is happening and then being able to react to it. This made me to be very concentrated and then i was very fast completely rushing to do all those stuff which you throw at the patient. :) Although i did not like the setting, i appreciate you for all your really crazy ideas. :) Defending the meteor shower is my favorite. :)

Jacob Cassidy in: Case Crimson Midnight by parkuhrmd 2022-04-05T22:02:45Z

Very cool game within a cthulhu mythos theme. Since i like this setting much, i played so long until i finshed it. The amount of cultists is too much for my taste. It got a little boring to shoot, reload, shoot, reload. A little less action and more investigation (finding stuff) would have been nice. Still, i see the humor in "investigation". And i like the writing in between: I wonder why you opted out of humor. Awesome for the amount of graphics, stuff and spells(!) you implemented, though I only used fireball, since it was the best to handle the hordes in my case. Still: I appreciate you all for the amount of content you added and though the game has its quirks, i enjoyed it a lot and you implemented the theme quite well. The Cthulhu mythos is literally the theme of the jam, so it fits quite nice that you can end up winning and still be within the theme. :) One more thing i like: the rain! And the visuals! Great work!

Chronos by Plixel 2022-04-06T07:52:06Z

Cool idea to use death as the inevitable. I like your take on that, making this into a puzzle game. I can imagine how hard it might was to design challenging levels. I like how it is in this state and i like your pixel art. I was intrigued by the tiles, couldn't really identify with the player sprite though. Thumbs up especially for the last level with those appearing vines!

Little Planet by yulotomorrow 2022-04-06T11:50:42Z

A simple shooting game, but so very beautiful and cute packaged into all the art, humor, characters and ... well you made a whole littl planet. So awesome :-) I liked the way, you walk around the globe, with the background passing by. So nice to look at. It made it very worth, to defend the planet. Very cool! <3

Don't Let the Bookbugs Bite! by DamonWakes 2022-04-04T17:04:41Z

hahaha! :-) So much fun! I like the idea. The shelves-dragging is awesome. So satisfying to hinder the bugs from reaching you. Too bad they eat through the books. Then again, the theme would have been missed if they couldn't. Well done! :) I especially like the eating sound of the bugs. So unsettling! :D

Flowers Photos & Pills by KatAsunder 2022-04-06T11:06:56Z

What beautiful art! I liked the interior and the animation and also the step sound. :-) And your idea fits to the theme, i think. I liked the zooming of the interior things through the camera and it was very satisfying to read some notes for every photo made. This was very peaceful. Thank you for this game you made there!

Over the Rainbow Bridge by Iguanana 2022-04-06T11:38:49Z

awww, the end makes me sad, even though i knew what was coming. Thank you for making this beautiful little game. I liked the pixel art much and it was so satisfying to pick up all the good things. :-) <3

We appreciate you much for your feedback, @wavertron @bosco @fromage @graphite @sansman01 @tosmaster & @parkuhrmd. Thanks! Personally I am really bad in NOT killing the friendly gnomes, too. And thanks for sharing your high score, @parkuhrmd. Mine was far less so far. :-)

Loading... by pixel-fabian 2022-04-06T19:58:54Z

hello Antti! @antti-haavikko

I appreciate you much for the amount of words of your feedback to us. Thank you for your what i consider a kinda in-depth-analysis/critic of our game. This is so(!) helpful. I imagine I learned a lot just by reading your feedback.

Your box spawning idea (increasing y difference to the middle) is very elegant. When coming up with balancing ideas, we didn't had anything of this kind in our minds. I appreciate you for what you write about the friendly gnomes and their impact on the bullets. And what is very valuable for me, is how you describe the surroundings of the background messing with your line sight for long shots. Actually, i noticed the same dificulty in my plays, but didn't think about how the surrounding visuals could play a role into that. I just thought it was me. So no: We didn't recognize this as a potential problem and so didn't toy with any ideas like laser sights, which would be an, again, elegant solution! I can imagine such a laser sight as a kind of upgrade.

For the annoying boop sound: This one is clearly on me and i don't like it, too. Before we speeded up the bullets, we wanted to have an "empty gun click" sound. This was a hard one to make for me and i wanted to try it by myself. But when it was implemented, we also changed the bullet speed and then it probably never really occured anymore when testing, since you nearly had permanent bullet fire then. So we missed the annoying sound. It's quite obsolete in the current state of the game, i think.

As i did all the pixel art, i am curious to know from you, how i could improve the sprites, apart from what you already suggested with the bullets. Would you tell me?

I am completely with you about the juice. With one more day we would sooo much liked to implement everything from "art of screenshake" and similar presentations.

I want to end here for now and conclude with that i also appreciate you for sharing your high score! And so cool you came up with your genocide game mode. Even though i imagine i tried something similar, i cannot imagine right now how to get -1588. :)

Loading... by pixel-fabian 2022-04-12T10:45:09Z

hej! thanks for your feedback @boykala @ludumdaredevil and @recher!

And i appreciate you @recher for the length of your post and your criticsm especially about the bullet limit. This is something I really start to hate myself, too, now that i am trying to beat the high scores you all posted here. As pixel-fabian pointed out already, this "feature" had some history in our development of the game, so it had a purpose in the beginning. And when this purpose got obsolete, we ran out of time to play and balance and change properly. Anyway, i'm glad you had 5 minutes of pleasant time! :)

PS: I am starting to learn to avoid shooting the gnomes. It's really crucial for getting a higher score, so now i start to get way past my usual 15k in the beginning:

MOUSE&CAT by SethNerd 2022-04-05T23:48:40Z

Awesome game! Though it was easy to distract the mouse permanantly from the cheese, and thus literally making the game run endlessly and kinda breaking the theme, i love your idea! the implementation with graphics and sounds is wonderful and the jumping mouse is so cute <3. Assuming you would find a way to code the mouse to really find the cheese eventually, you would have (and you did potentially!) nailed the theme. Really wonderful and well done!

Ragnarök: Fight for The Yggdrasil by Hylin Games 2022-04-05T22:14:12Z

The little you made into the game works as it is: short nice fun. I liked it especially when i got to move faster and the big bullets were very satisfying. Audio is very crucial however, at least for me, to really enjoy such an action game. Still: Well done!

Lights Out by Dan Livings 2022-04-04T09:16:37Z

I like your minimalistic design. And I like the smooth, clean graphics. Theme-wise, i like your idea, gameplay-wise, it is too easy and repetitive. Different patterns of tiles being lit would be nice, especially so i couldn't be sure where i had to click next. Like it is now, i can click anywhere near and be sure that there never would be a gameover for me (thus contradicting the theme) unless I stop clicking. Which i did: I set my goal for one million points and then stopped. Still: I know about time constraints and balancing stuff regarding games for jam, so i like to conclude with: very promising and good idea and thumbs up for the clean design!

LD54 — Limited Space

Tiny Factory by AncientEntity 2023-10-04T12:29:09Z

despite the shortcomings mentioned already: no moving belts, how to "unbackup" generators in your first tries and the problem of finding the new generators in later stages of the game: VERY well done! It's awesome that you implemented a factorio-style gameplay. Its limitations fit the theme and i like those little items you implemented. :)

Asteroid Base by JOZGames 2023-10-04T08:16:24Z

I like that! And i like the pixel art. :-) And it works themewise very good. I had constantly the feeling of having too limited space and i am motivated to try again more. So these are good feelings and they come from a game well done! Your modifier at every restart is very good, motivational-wise, too. :)

Asteroid Base by JOZGames 2023-10-04T08:18:21Z

Even though i judge i was quite bad in it, i might have an idea how to get better and more efficient. So this is something i like with your game, too, as it kinda teaches you to use better strategies.

Bucket Buffet by Don Fouts 2023-10-04T14:50:36Z

yes! i got savings, finally. I guess it's quite a question of luck, if you do get the expensive things, to be able to save something? Either way. Such a great idea for this theme. How did you came up with this??? It's funny, the art looks nice, the background noises make for a fitting mood and the idea for eating so much as possible without spilling anything is so very well implemented into a game. Very nice! Oftentimes i am too quick with putting something on the table, and when a big slice of whatever is drawn my whole pyramid of food just tumbles or shoots away to the right. What would be cool in this situation, if with luck, i could flip food from the buffet directly on the table. It would save precious space on my plate. :)

Tiny Tour by Bugord 2023-10-10T21:52:13Z

This was a fun puzzle. I like the theme (cars and trains) and the ability to make waypoints is wonderful. Especially the one level where you have to set three waypoints to solve the puzzle. And i like the pixel art, too :-)

S.P.A.C.E. Ltd. by xinux 2023-10-04T08:34:02Z

This is soooooo good and addicting. So very very well done. I like the list of components, completely irrelevant for the gameplay, but a very nice touch of detail. I judge your game to be quite a serious game, in the way that you can use it to experiment with physics just by trying out different angles to shoot. And i like the simplicity of things and the launch blast sound is quite satisfying. So well done on so many levels! :)

Hazel & Hector by cassowary 2023-10-05T09:20:00Z

Thank you for this game. It's so cute. <3 I like your pixel art much and i like the sounds of eating grass and when the hare relaxes after being pushed to its natural surroundings. So well done. And for the puzzle aspect itself: A great idea to help out by pushing. This makes some interesting puzzle-y knots in my brain, which i enjoyed to untangle.

Ludum Dare Solid: Limited Space Action by Daniel Grinshpon 2023-10-04T20:01:38Z

I like what you did to the theme. It's very fitting. And i like the clearness of the graphics!

A Better Place by SvenErik 2023-10-11T11:25:16Z

I love your pixel art! And i like your idea about sorting things into piles and that you are free to choose to do this or to sort things directly into the containers.

Space! Ltd. by Boyar 2023-10-05T19:37:12Z

I like your idea going through all Space Ltd games. :) So i tried out yours. And you know. I just spend one hour to play your game. I noticed that i had to think long between each placement, which means, that your game isn't so easy, which is good. On the other hand, i would like o have had played quicker. But the risk of messing up and starting a level again was to big. I would have liked an undo-Button, then i would've had been more relaxed about playing your game. I imagine that you would then get casual puzzle players aswell. I think yours is more for seasoned puzzle players or those who just like puzzles. I do. :) So i had fun. And one more thing: I like your endless mode. Very nice addition/finish to your game. What else ... the sounds could me more juicy for my taste, like a pushy placement sound or a bigger explosion or demolition sound when doing exactly that (now i notice that you opted out of audio, ok). I like the idea of the special tiles much. This is a great puzzle mechanic. And i like the graphics especially with those special tiles. Well done overall! :)

Tiles and Sea by Twotinydice 2023-10-06T08:09:37Z

Very nice puzzle game. I love the pixel art and i read that you used a tile set. So, great choice! :) I like the levels most which have three possible places to place new tiles. The lower the choice is, the more random the game is. I prefer more strategy and it was often a bit frustrating to build up a nice location but not being able to place the tile i wanted to because the place i wanted wasn't lit up. Still, very relaxing and very nice with the diverse set of tiles. As bugs go: i noticed that some desert tiles doesn't score. The desert village for example doesn't score the oasis, although it is said so in the tile description.

Parry Hotter and the Stilosopher’s Phone by osh.studio 2023-10-06T08:37:10Z

I like this idea very much, to roll the dice and assign it to the actions. The most satisfying thing was to find new dice. The combat was too easy. I imagine, if it would be harder, it would be more meaningful to choose between new dice and healing for example. So more challenge and more variety in enemies and maybe ... special dice with powers? ... would be nice. A solid and promising game idea! Thanks for making that! :)

Grid Island by Hiding.Dev 2023-10-04T19:38:29Z

grid island.jpg

I like this game. It kept me playing until i finished it. The piano is soothing, the pixel art is pretty and it is easy to play. Easy in the way to go along and keep placing tiles, but quite difficult to get it finished. Even though i think i understood some strategies with time, i think, in the end, luck was what made me collect the last few points which were missing. It's very satisfying to place tiles seeing that they make many points. And each Ding! notifying me about the next set of tiles was a point where brief relaxation occured, just before i tensed again to find the best place for the new set. Very well done! And i like that the points for each possible placement are transparently shown. I wonder though why there is the possibility to zoom or rotate? I didn't use it at all and i didn't needed it for gameplay. Still, nice to have it there, just in case. :) I would have like very much a kind of trophy in the end. I judge everyone who finished your game earned it. Like a golden statue in the middle of the island, or some glitter, or whatever, like the island rising from the water and flying into the sky or something similar crazy, so to really get a feeling of accomplishment.

Picky Plants by chybby 2023-10-04T18:54:29Z

This is such a wonderful game! Thank you for making it. I quite like puzzle games and since i like plants much, this was very very satisfying. I like especially the pixel art. It fits to the theme and the title is perfect. I disliked the chess levels though. They just killed the mood for me. The thing is that (at least for myself) chess problems are quite common as puzzles. I would have liked you rather to stay within the plants theme all the time, since the plants rules make for unique puzzle situations. I admit though, that i liked the last level, maybe cause the plants were in the majority there. This level for very hard, i needed about an hour to solve it. But i did. Overall a very well done level progression. And very very well done overall! :)

Space Ltd. by Telkan 2023-10-05T23:44:17Z

I like your pixel art and the color palette! :hearts: Great idea for implementing the theme. I played it through quite some time to find the endings. Is Leonard involved in any ending? I didn't find any for them. I liked the cookie and the party until the end of the world endings the most. And i adore your map of the bad situation, the world is in, the one from the intro. Very well done. I like your game much!

Craftship Ltd. by pixel-fabian 2023-10-04T13:01:39Z

THANK YOU very much for your great feedback. We appreciate that much, since we want to expand and polish our game after the jam. We have so many ideas to improve it.

I have a request, @zwikkelbaard @sotaroni @robowarrior1982 @ding @daniel-grinshpon @don-fouts @maxim-cebotaru @dennis-magnusson @gastricsparrow @nathmate :

Would you kindly rate the graphics for this game, too, if you have rated the game already? Due to a mistake we opted out of this category, although all pixel art is made by us. We opted in again now and we appreciate you much if you would take your time to rate this category, too. Thank you so much!

Craftship Ltd. by pixel-fabian 2023-10-05T23:18:23Z

Impressive/lucky you @boyar !! 2 more points than my high score. From what i gather, you got the highest highscore so far. :rocket:

Animal Teleporting by JamesW 2023-10-06T15:59:12Z

Oh this is so cute and beautiful and just very very clever! :-) Great idea, to use animals and their traits and implement them into puzzles, which are, i judge, quite well crafted. The moving sound is a bit annoying, but well. Its bearable and to navigate the animals through the levels to their teleports is just so much fun. This said, i want to repeat and emphasize, that i like your pixel art for the animals, much! :) Thanks for making this game! :hearts:

Animal Teleporting by JamesW 2023-10-07T11:30:09Z

I have now played completely through every level. And i must say: Well done, progress/difficulty-wise! I felt both challenged but never stucked. I liked the complexity in the last few levels (and even some of the earlier ones were not completely trivial) and i liked that you could solve the puzzles by logical thinking, too, like: "Okay, that animal can only go to this teleport." or "The movement traits of this animal limit it only to this region." And from there i could work puzzling. And at the same time, the size of the levels invited you to just move randomly around and try things out, never feeling pointless, since chances are good that you come across a move where you think "Oh. That's cool, this animal is just in the perfect spot for now" .. and so on. So, i judge, your level design is flow-wise, at least for me, perfect!

InvenStory by pro4 2023-10-11T15:33:39Z

This was fun, but very difficult. Still, doable. I like much how you tell the story through the puzzles. The idea to guess the content is a very nice and innovative one. Somethimes i just filled the backpack though, to get to the hints, since i wasn't sure or just didn't know what was expectet of me. This killed kinda this great idea. I'd prefer then that even close guesses would be accepted and right, too, resulting in changes in the story told, like he*she killed the demon, but with much difficulty, as too communicate, it was right in the general approach, but it could be even better. Then i could know, that 10 of one kind, is not enough, and i have to find a way to put an 11th in there, too, so to get to the "perfect" result. Other than this (which i judge as an minor issue regarding the amount of content you present!): very very well done. And as others pointed out repeatedly: The pixel art is just awesome, funny and charming!

Space LTD by Charlotte adams 2023-10-04T09:15:29Z

I like the shiny effect on things. Great what you accomplished graphics- and 3d-wise. I would have liked automatic notetaking or an inventory, where i could collect the notes with the numbers. Then again i enjoyed the frantic when the oxygen went down to revisit all numbers and make notes myself, just before i died only seconds before i could enter them. Afterwards it was easy, since they don't change, i just started the game, turned, and openend the door to the cockpit. i guess you had the idea yourself, to randomize these numbers for every playthrough, but at the same time, i enjoyed it to "be so smart" and to avoid all those pesky aliens and win the game in an instant. Themewise, i like the limited space of the rooms, especially with the aliens, especially(!) when they block your way to the gun. I would have prefered to not shoot them. Use them further as blocking creatures so that the space stays limited, shooting them is too easy anyway. Interesting and satisfying it would be, if you could kill them with depleting oxygen in a controlled fashion, using the goal of the game as a game mechanic itself (thinking of FTL now). Anyway, i like your game and one more reference to appreciate your graphics: Floyd/The Feeble Files. I was heavily reminded of that game, don't know really why. Probably because of the roundish design of your objects and creatures. One last question, since i couldn't try it out. Does the healing chamber really heals? If so: great idea! Very fitting. And one more thing: at one point i was invincible, which i liked, to be honest. :)

Nice Park! by Barbabulle 2023-10-04T14:20:28Z

nice park.jpg

A very excellent game you made. wow! Thank you. I enjoyed playing it alot. From the moment i started, it was outright fun and pleasing to look at and to listen to. The pixel art, the motor sound effect, the handling(!!). And i want to tell you, that you really nailed the theme by using a very relatable situation from everyday life and turning it into a fun game where you end up parking in ways you never do afk. :-) I like especially how the really fast cars with their handling, or the slow bus really surprised me in a satisfying way, adding to the puzzle/dexterity aspect of your game. And i like your level design/progression much. I judge it to be really well done, motivating me to play one more level and being challenged by new corners, new tactics, new cars. Also fun: And here's praise for the art again: The details next to the streets. It was nice to find recurring characters in each level and especially the rustling leaves whenever you drive over them. This is such a very cool idea for making the game world vivid!
