LD17 — Islands (30)

I HATE ISLANDS by nitram_cero

After hours of voting, I needed this break. Absolutely hilarious. If this doesn't win in the Humor category something is seriously wrong. A lot of fun to play too!

Baby Leviathan: Eat All Fishies by ExciteMike

Love the control scheme!

Ganjisland by havchr

Interesting concept. I'd definitely like to see where you go with this.

Radio Silence by Terry

Oww my frickin ears! Some of those radio frequencies are brutal! I definitely liked the atmosphere you built up. Great to see you dabbling with Unity. :)

Deep Under an Island by Sparky

My only frustration was not knowing about "BACKSPACE" when I went for the first pellets and got stuck. ;) Very cute game! Simple premise but well executed. The puzzles challenged me progressively but were never frustrating. I had a great time playing this!

tailspin by greencow

Very difficult to control.

Island Defence by 3ndo

The shield depletion is wayy too slow, as is the rate of fire of the player's weapon. It felt like the game was trying to be more "strategy" given the pacing, but "action" pacing would suit this better.

Animations could have added more life to the screen. SFX and Music definitely would have improved the user's engagement.

Turtle Ferry by dock

Your visual style is as compelling and adorable as always.

A Fishing Adventure by Sophie Houlden

Excellent work. Well done! Loved the puzzles. Loved the absurd ideas (fishing with a grappling hook!!). Had a hard time identifying the types of fish in the water and the ability to reset a level without dying would have been nice. :) I hope you continue to polish this title and explore the mechanics a bit more.

Conquistador by invicticide

Thank you for the default load-out button!

Land Ho! by nihilocrat

It's really relaxing when you get into the groove of sailing around.

Iceland and the volcanic ASH of DOOM by Rolf

The controls were brutal, which is unfortunate because the core gameplay would have been fun!

Eden Island by brandoncash

I love it. This is my favourite entry so far. Glad I stuck around long enough to see the pirates. I'd love to see this expanded on so I can watch my Island evolve and survive through other scenerios.

But yeah.. LD is a solo competition. Though it looks like this FAQ didn't transfer over to LD17: http://www.ludumdare.com/wiki/ld16:faq
(I only dinged you under "Community" for not following the solo rule.)

Is Lands? by Tom 7

The audio really made this. Great interpretation of the theme!

The Naturalist by JMNielly

Liked the evolution (mutation?) mechanic. Very polished for what it is.

Tropical Islands of Doom by Codexus

The camera controls are brutal but otherwise a good entry.

Waves by Gregory Avery-Weir

The rescue helicopter leaves so fast :(
The control is good and it's fun to get that perfect jump out of the water.

Kallista's Dream by zez

I have no idea what I was doing! I definitely like the way you interpreted the theme though.

Message by belbeeno

Interesting concept. Wasn't as intuitive as I would have liked (watch people play this cold to see how to improve this element). I obviously had to ignore your music for marking because it broke a few rules (even though it was lovely!). :(

Jealous Gods by ChainedLupine

Nice! Very "Black & White"-esque. ;) I agree with Endurion in that it took a second to figure out which Tiki was me. The fireballs were sometimes annoying when they'd just bounce off each other (I felt like I was perpetually stuck in a Ryu/Ken hadoken showdown).
The graphics are good. The sound effects are great. And the core gameplay is fun. Well done! Please polish this and post it on Kongregate, I'd totally want to play a more fleshed out version.

Dreams of how we once were by Perrin

You're dark man. Very very dark.

Artifact Hunt by allen

The music and scenery was very nice. The gameplay wasn't engaging and I got tired of the game before I got tired in the game. Still, you clearly have a talent for building atmosphere. Congrats on getting a submission together in time!

The Forgotten Isles by Tempest

I definitely like the minimalist art style you went for. The story was engaging. Some of the mazes were frustrating and it felt like trial and error to find the right path. Nice job!

Island Rescue by fydo

Very clever take on Tetris. Simple premise. Easy to pick up and lots of fun to play. Great stuff!

Pee Wee Pirates by frosty

I quite enjoyed this. :) Fun gameplay and perfect audio. Great stuff!

Evil Lair Command by Spiridios

Amazing that this is done in Javascript+Canvas! The enemy ships are so tiny! It's awfully hard to click them in time! Still, major props in technical achievement. Well done.

Micro Silent Hunter by DJ_JIA

I can see where you're trying to go with your concept! I like the idea of the multiple views, but I just wasn't able to get into the game. Gameplay was not as intuitive as it could be. At one point my submarine disappeared and I wasn't sure if I died or if there was a bug. I encountered many other graphical bugs and performance issues.

If you want to develop this further I'd suggest watching people play it cold. As well, clean up the bugs.

Congrats on getting a submission done! Hope you had a fun first-LD. :)

i thought we had a thing by localcoder

omg she's so needy. You should map "2" to slap her. I had a good time fetching the items and unraveling the story. Very cute. :)

Eyelands by recursor

Holy crap they killed me so fast! I didn't stand a chance!

Infinite Deadly Islands Of Terror by Hamumu

Very fun. :) Your entries are always of exceptional quality with lots of substance.

LD16 — Exploration (14)

Hunters of The Northwest Passage by PsySal

Great fun. :)

Deep Field by Gilvado

Very interesting concepts. I'd love to see this further developed. Really glad you stuck with it and submitted this!

The Europa Arcology Incident by Notch

I hate rogue-likes - but this is definitely the strongest LD16 submission I've seen so far. You accomplished an insane amount over the 48hr period. Bravo.

Redwalk by Sophie Houlden

Beautiful environment. Would love to see this fleshed out into a game.

Ruins by angrywaffle

Good core gameplay. This could turn into a really good side-scroller. "UP" for jump really confused me as I'm used to Flixl games using "x" for jump.

Jimmy's Adventure by Wiering

Beautiful graphics. I found the actual game a bit dull. More things to collect or other interesting elements that would pull the user along would help keep interest high.

Adventure Quest by TenjouUtena

Looks like such a great premise but there is far too much going on. I wasn't able to understand the game in a short enough time.

towlr: EXPLR by philhassey

Needs more TOWLR.

Explo48 by Codexus

I like your gameplay concept with invisible tiles and "glimpses". This could evolve into an addicting puzzle game with enough tuning and polish.

Chameleon by Undead3

Took some time to understand that my energy returned if I parked on an energy source. ... after reading what I just wrote I can't believe I stumbled with something so obvious.
Good stuff!

Ezo by C418

Excellent use of audio and minimalistic graphics.

Scavenger by Fiona

Beautiful. A simple premise, beautifully executed. Well done!

Cubees: Age of Exploration by Tempest

Very polished. Very fun. I really enjoyed this game!

Chip 1234 by voltain

A fun little platformer! You weren't kidding when you said you hadn't fully tested the game though . :) Lots of minor issues keep me from enjoying this more.
