Wow, it one of the best entries i've seen so far. Really enjoyed a game and it's pace and feel. There is only things that feels out of place for me and it is upgrade system, i think that game could be more enjoyable without it

uzpykes 2021-04-26 19:45

Nice one! Visually it looks stunning. I've liked gameplay as well, though I think it's a tad too easy as I've managed to win by clicking around somewhat mindlesslly.

apeyrard 2021-04-26 22:33

Great entry, really polished. I love it.

If i can suggest a few improvements: - switching to the next sprout when AP are exhausted - UI can get in the way of the sprouts

seanarooni 2021-04-26 22:41

cool unique puzzle game! relaxing. i think the moving between sprouts could be automated a little, it got kind of tedious. still enjoyed it though. beautiful graphics, nice music and sfx. congratulations on the game to you both!

bereg 2021-04-26 22:43

@hiki911 Thank you! @uzpykes I agree. It's hard to balance the difficulty during the jam timespan. By the way, the maze layout is randomized, so every other try would feel different. @apeyrard Yes, the automatic switching was the option we had in mind. It would be nice addition. Also you can move the camera by WASD.

caiolima 2021-04-26 22:54

Congrats! Awesome project, really enjoyed the sound feedbacks for the turns and water, really cute 3d render!

sam-onella 2021-04-26 23:14

Looks fantastic and really demonstrates the inherent fun in expansion. I did get completely sealed in by rocks on my first run, but with something randomly generated like this it's probably hard not to run into situations like that occasionally. Other than that, great work :)

theawesomeshaz 2021-04-27 00:40

YOOOO that music really suited the game also the way the camera shifted from 2D to 3D was really AWESOME how do we do that in unity btw?

stone-studio 2021-04-27 03:33

This game was really fun to play and experience the fun of board games. I really liked the digging set up and felt like I could do a two player match. The art is also great and looks and feels juicy. it would be nice if the music was a bit more relaxed! All in all, a really great game, I love it!

bereg 2021-04-27 08:50

@caiolima Thank you! @sam-onella Yep, the initial conditions can be punishing sometimes. Just like in the real life, huh. Thanks! @theawesomeshaz Just create two virtual cameras, one with the wide FOV and one with the narrow. Next morph between them with Cinemachine. Thank you! @stone-studio It's an interesting idea to add a multiplayer option, we should think about it. Thank you!

eldogg 2021-04-27 11:34

Graphics are great and the intro music is pumping! I played on Linux and it seemed to work, but maybe some of the UI elements were in the wrong place as the progress meter seemed to be in the middle of the screen. Cool concept, very polished feel.

2021-04-27-12:27:21.jpg

bereg 2021-04-27 11:39

@eldogg Wow, that not how it supposed to look. Definitely a bug in the Linux version. What screen resolution you played at?

asdehielo 2021-04-27 13:54

Visually amazing, great sound design aswell. I managed to complete it after a few tries.

The only flaw I see is that the "+1 AP" upgrade seems useless. Since the goal is to survive until the bar is filled, it seems counterproductive to move 2 times, as it can lead to your sprouts dying faster and therefore generating less water per turn.

Amazing game anyway, congrats!

xoreaxeax 2021-04-27 13:59

Very nice! Crazy polished for a game jam game! The transition between main menu and game is really neat :) I was a bit sad that the play grid is not deeper

merpui 2021-04-27 14:13

Great game! The gameplay feels polished and the graphics are nice. Amazing how this is all done within a few days!

Awesome work!

ben-newington 2021-04-27 14:24

great game ! it looks and sounds awesome and was satisfying to complete :)

eldogg 2021-04-27 14:25

@bereg I have a hidpi screen 2880x1620 - but it's in a dual monitor mode using nvidia drivers on Linux so who knows what's going on, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

bereg 2021-04-27 15:32

@asdehielo Thank you! +1AP means that you can create more root tile in one turn to get more water to the slider. But I agree, the game needs to be balanced a bit, in terms of costs, upgrades and amount of water in the tiles.

bereg 2021-04-27 15:32

@xoreaxeax @merpui @ben-newington Thank you for your kind words!

vincent-abel-grimalt 2021-04-27 17:10

Good entry , Nicely polished. i've had some times the UI bothering me but that's pretty much all. Good Job @bereg @kripakov ! :)

gentlemelon01 2021-04-27 21:28

pretty great, perhaps a bit too easy, but overall, well done!

maxwell3000 2021-04-27 22:25

Really fun game! Upgrading your roots to better explore was a lot of fun. The only really annoying things that I ran into was the UI at the bottom getting in the way of the map when you are trying to move or create roots, and sometimes the map blocking you from parts of the map. Great work!

clamshell64 2021-04-27 22:58

Great game, very polished!

binaya 2021-04-28 03:43

Great game ,good graphics and unique puzzle. And i was able to fully grow mushroom. Great work 👍

majadroid 2021-04-28 11:09

Pretty nice game with a solid and fun gameplay and great amount of polish. Visuals and sound are at a high quality level. The game feels very "finished". Great work!

hypnoquat 2021-04-29 05:33

Very good job! It felt very polished and, while relatively easy, had a laid back atmosphere that fit the difficulty. All of the animations were very well done, the pathing of the interconnected roots was interesting and the SFX were great.

yamzho 2021-04-29 16:59

One of my favorite games so far. A lot of polish, nice gameplay, great graphics. Well done !

bereg 2021-04-29 17:08

@gentlemelon01 Thank you! We've added a hard difficulty in the post-jam version. @maxwell3000 Thank you! Actually you can move a camera with WASD + MouseWheel, we should've make this clearer. @clamshell64, @binaya, @majadroid, @hypnoquat, @yamzho Thanks a lot!

monninen 2021-04-29 17:12

This is definitely the best entry I have played this far. Amazing graphics, fun gameplay, good sound effects and whole game is easy to understand. Perfect! Good work. I would love to see this to become a big and full game.

minipeps 2021-04-29 17:20

The puzzle game vibe got me into playing it for quite some time, it almost gets addictive as you grow your sprouts more and more! A great idea, well implemented, makes for a very good jam game experience

boxedmeatrevolution 2021-04-29 22:03

Very enjoyable and relaxing puzzle game! The level generation could use some tweaking (one time I played and there was a big wall of rock preventing access to most of the field), and the UI sometimes got in the way (I sometimes reeeeally wanted to put a seed under the "place a seed" dialogue). But overall the game felt very polished, and it was fun to puzzle about whether I should save or spend my water. Well done!

michaelyount 2021-04-30 04:06

Very excited about this, great concept and great mechanic. I had fun with this one. Great job Thanks.

nocymer 2021-04-30 07:01

One of the best game i've tried so far, it is actually quite finished and can be expanded in the future, this could become a really great mobile game, anyway your music was excellent aswell as the art and mechanics well done guys!

bungalow 2021-04-30 09:15

This game was so sick!! the art was adorable, the gameplay was intuitive and the controls were responsive! Very impressive for a jam game! You should be proud!

maybeagoose 2021-04-30 09:29

very very good, I like the step-by-step approach

brainloaf-studio 2021-04-30 09:59

Very interesting concept. My second run had me completely walled in at the start and I lost instantly, but my third run made up for it and I won the game! Beautiful graphics & sound design!

lelek-hunor-kadosa 2021-04-30 10:12

It's the kind of game where I don't really know if I play it correctly or not, but it looks and feels so good that I don't really care.

leggy 2021-04-30 10:39

hello, Nice entry! Hard choice to set up a turn based game nowadays since it can end up easily to be a little slow, but in this case you have to carefully think on where to gamble. The game is well polished as it starts, then at the end it lacks some end message / end button. Overall is a really nice entry for this game jam! Good job!

the-body 2021-04-30 15:03

Nice! Great concept and well-polished game! Really enjoyable puzzle mechanics. GJ

joedev 2021-04-30 15:16

Ayyyy nice! This is the second 'root' themed one I've played so far for this theme, and its a great one. I like the spread of the roots and watching it grow and evolve into a big web of mushroom root haha.

As someone said above, the map can generate in a frustrating way that prevents you from expanding far just from bad luck, but my first run I finished in 42 turns I think it was.

It looked really nice and I had a good time! :)

keridana 2021-04-30 16:53

Great game! I liked it, I passed it) Very nice graphics and sound)

maytch 2021-04-30 21:37

Nice game, would never have thought of doing that for a theme!

denissobolev 2021-04-30 23:56

Realy cool meditative gameplay and pleasant art. I like it. The mathematics of obtaining water is not very clear.

tiseno 2021-05-01 10:43

Really cool game, insanely polished, could easily be a commercial game. For me the difficulty was just right, (maybe a little easy, probably was lucky with the randomization) and I managed to feed my Majesty successfully 😎

yngvarr 2021-05-01 11:18

Darn, this game is so gorgeous! It's simple and enjoyable to play. I didn't quite catch the logic behind increasing the amount of water, but I ended up not needing this info. Fantastic work, really!

Here's my no commentary playthrough:

https://youtu.be/SHU3LFOBfZM

googlefrog 2021-05-01 12:09

I love the concept and polish. My only gripe is that it wasn't clear to me where my water was coming from each turn.

commanderstitch 2021-05-02 05:54

Graphics are superbulicious. It looks so pro. Couldn't see the bottom row unless i moved the camera down. I beat it on my second try on a hunch that sight was the bad thing on normal mode. I was right. It was much easier without that vision. xD Nice stuff!

cam-moore 2021-05-02 14:43

This was cool and unique from what I have seen so far. Good graphics and intro music. Fun gameplay as well.

frank-gevaerts 2021-05-02 16:31

Very nice game! I enjoyed it throughout. The graphics are nice and balanced, the sound and music are fitting, and the UI works well. I played on linux (1920x1080 full-screen) and didn't have any of the issues the itch.io page mentions as possible.

Some possible improvements if you want to do further work on this could be auto-scrolling to the new sprout when using next/previous buttons ,combined with maybe some adjustments for common screen sizes (it *nearly* fit for me on 1920x1080, one or two fewer rows or slightly smaller graphics and scrolling wouldn't have been needed at all); having a way to skip sprouts with no AP on next/previous; graying out or hiding the upgrade button when the sprout is fully upgraded; and having escape close the upgrade dialog. All of those are fixes for minor things that are entirely expected in a jam game, nothing major at all.

very-dark-lord 2021-05-03 12:35

Really cool! Very well polished and great presentation. Loved the visuals and music, really didn't feel like a jam game but rather something that at least weeks of work went into!

It's also quite fun and engaging. I just think I was unlucky with my map layout and there was no way for me to win, as after a good third of the map there was just no other way to expand as everything was blocked by stone. Not sure if there was a way for me to win the game in these circumstances. But maybe I'll have a nother go later on and see if things work out better. :)

Only tiny complaint I have is that the UI could be a little more streamlined. E.g. upgrading could surely be handled with fewer clicks and extra windows, especially considering there are only two upgrades to begin with. But that's really all I could come up with. Great work!

dmitry-mozgin 2021-05-03 18:29

blob 2021-05-05 05:12

Very original and awesome musics! Is there any place where we can get them? :D

fabula-rasa 2021-05-05 09:52

Pretty cool little puzzle! The sfx and music bits are very nice, spot-on I'd say. And the graphics are great as well. You created a very chill atmosphere.

Gameplay is just fine, controls work well, and I didn't meet any bugs. If I have one complaint, it's the difficulty. There really seems like there is no way to fail and even not much reason to upgrade your roots.

pat-cleaver 2021-05-05 11:44

Wow this was great! Really nice and simple mechanic, had that sweet boardgame vibe some 4X games can have. Very impressed with this, good job!

mrpouletbzh 2021-05-06 12:13

Great entry, was fun to play! Not as simple as I first thought, the game really force us to plan our next moves. Nice art direction too! Good job!

sunblast 2021-05-06 19:13

Amazing game, did not expect to see a 4x game in Ludum Dare. Really loved the concept. My only complaint is that the level generation could be improved a bit, I had one game where zero rocks spawned. Good job on the game!

deathstorm 2021-05-06 20:55

A Very interesting Game. I liked the Conecept a lot. Maybe it needs some more "Dangers" like Bad Spores or evil myclia or so and it was unfortune that in my Hard try, the whole Left Side of the GAme was totally unreachable. This should also maybe changed. And Sometimtes it wasn't clear where do get my water exactly from and what does the spores are exactly do.

But Overall it is a great Game which I enjoyed a lot.

Well Done Great Work

bmacintosh 2021-05-07 05:37

This is an amazingly polished game, graphically and aurally. It plays very smoothly. The UI was intuitive and easy to use, though a few things took me some time to figure out: that water income is based on the size of the root network, and water left in the pool is drained every turn. I did find the game quite easy; because you have passive water income from the root network, it seems like you can't really fail unless you do something immensely self-destructive early on. That's a valid design but this felt like it wanted to be something more thoughtful.

pestodesign 2021-05-07 15:32

@bereg This is a great game! I just realized we have a common theme with the root growing mushroom, and also that it is a bit more strategic than other takes. Your game has very polished and balanced gameplay, congrats!

ellenbjohnson 2021-05-09 03:46

Oh my goodness, what a great entry! I love the take on the theme and I *especially* like the squishy fungal sound effects. It kind of reminds me of SimAnt, a game which I adored. Others have mentioned that it was perhaps too easy, but I appreciated that—difficulty seems to be tough to nail down in a game jam, and IMO, it's better to make the game on the easy side so that people can experience the whole thing. If you were to take it further and make it more difficult, I'd definitely play it again!

EDIT: Lo and behold, there's the post-jam build with hard mode added! Yaaay

quite-good 2021-05-10 00:48

That was really fun! I like the idea of building your mushroom empire. I think it could make a great mobile game with a bigger map and more potential to grow. Awesome stuff right here.

0x01f0 2021-05-10 14:42

Awesome game!

It's very soothing to sit and plot out paths, with that juicy crispy sound, and as time goes by, it becomes a beautiful network which is satisfying.

If you will continue to work on it (I hope so, because it's great!), here's some feedback (although you probably know about it already, then just ignore it):

* This UI element blocked me a couple of times:

Mycelisation_LD48_Y9dnGXD032.png

* I wish it was easier to upgrade the sprouts (maybe right-click -> tiny menu) or something. I loved that there was a "finish round" shortcut, but I didn't find one for the "store"?

Nice work!! I think I have to fry some shiitake mushrooms for dinner today

enderr42 2021-05-11 22:05

The graphics and sound design are solid, beautiful, "not-a-jam" level. This is a tremendous job done in 72. Gameplay feels nice and casual, maybe a bit too easy. I could really use a Civilization style "end turn when all units moved" option though. Great job overall!

cruise-elroy 2021-05-13 23:11

I really liked this one! Lots of people have said that the gameplay feels pretty easy but I actually found it kind of hard to get a good strategy going, haha. I'd perhaps make it more clear which tiles have how much water in them and make predicting where the dead ends will be less difficult. I also happened to stumble upon a seed that had no rocks in it whatsoever...may want to fix that for a post-jam version!

screenie.png

togis 2021-05-15 10:16

I finally had time to play your game on stream :) Here is a link to the correct place in the video: https://www.youtube.be/watch?v=Sx1MQ445u7k&t=13099s

What an impressive game, it's not frequent to see a 4x (or xxx in your case) game that also has very good graphics and audio.

I really enjoyed the mechanic overall, my video was on easy mode but I went back to the game and played the harder version with blockers later. I never even had to upgrade any spore in easy, but it became very handy in the hard mode.

I'm really impressed by this game, congratulation!

neontropics 2021-05-15 13:22

Very nice graphics and great feedback with the audio after every move. The title screen -> game transition was great. I didn't quite get the strategy except "just grow further" but it was still fun to expand the root network.

laurari 2021-05-16 09:55

I got the worst luck possible on the first try, as the tiles around the root were all stones  but this is a fun game, I really like how you need to move around to not make them die

Great mechanic and SFX, missing some music while in game, but great experience  good job!!!

adriel-vercosa 2021-05-17 08:45

I late some minutes to understand the game, but later I could see that is fantastic! I Loved it!!! Good job!

philstrahl 2021-05-18 17:07

A very polished game with a lot of fun to it. I never thought that playing a fungus of all things would be such compelling. Here's my time with it on my stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2X3tRskS-U
