Dec 4 17:24:10 Bohemian Winter ♥ 0 I really like the art style - the characters that look kind of like origami foldings (not sure if that was the intention, but that's what they reminded me of), and the snowy terrain and wind sound effects really enhanced the mood. I think with more work this can turn into a very moody, beautiful game. That said, it was very hard to understand what the goal was - why were my animals dying? Their health bar seemed to be completely full and then all of a sudden they would drop to zero unexpectedly. Also, sometimes it would do nothing when I approach an obelisk, sometimes it would say I have nothing to offer, and sometimes the god would accept my offering. I wasn't sure what was the difference between these situations (I had goats with me in all cases) and I also wasn't sure how the god blessing was helping me. Would be nice to have these things better explained within this game.
Dec 4 19:10:12 1h 46m Fórnir ♥ 2 I loved the art style! The character drawings are very well done and the animations look good. The gameplay mechanic was novel and had a lot of potential - I really liked the basic idea of the monthly cycles and seeing how people's status changes and how their dialog change based on it. However, some things that bothered me: 1) No way to skip the intro (that I found). After failing the first time I wanted to try again and had to sit through the intro again 2) It was not very obvious how the sacrifices affect the people, which I guess is true in real life as well :) However, in the game, it really felt like I couldn't understand my agency - what effect do my actions have? I had a lot of fun, but my experience felt a bit random - I wasn't sure if and how my decisions were affecting the game. My experience: On my first playthrough I tried sacrificing everyone that didn't believe in god enough. People started hating me very quickly and I sacrificed more than half the village On the second playthrough, I thought the shaman is trying to trick me and I should not sacrifice anyone. I didn't sacrifice anyone, and stayed ruler for longer, but people still eventually got rid of me. On the third playthrough, I only sacrificed people a few people who didn't trust in me enough. That seemed to work and everyone loved me :) I stopped sacrificing people at that point and everyone kept trusting me for a few months, but eventually it all got bad again. It was really fun experimenting with this, but now I wonder - is there a win state? Thank you for making this game, I enjoyed my time with it!
Dec 4 19:30:51 20m 39s haeresis ♥ 0 I enjoyed the story, and really liked how this game looks! It was very atmospheric and got me very immersed. One small gripe is that the walking speed is super slow. It adds to the mood, but got a bit tiring especially because the game is so repetitive and you have to go through the same scenes many times.
Dec 4 19:42:58 12m 07s Electrocuted ♥ 1 Fun puzzle game! I think it would be nice if the levels were designed to be a bit more tight - basically place the chargers to I really have to think through how I'm traversing the level otherwise I'm out of energy. I found in most cases I could make tons of mistakes and still have enough energy to reach the next charger.
Dec 4 19:59:04 16m 06s Torontifornia! ♥ 1 Had fun playing through it! I got to around wave 8 (not sure about the number - but just after I got the last type of soldier). At that point I lost all my morale and lost the game. I wasn't entirely sure what a good strategy is - my soldiers keep dying so quickly from enemy fire, why would I want to sacrifice my own soldiers? I tried playing through it again a few times trying a few different strategies but didn't find one that worked. Is there a win state to the game?
Dec 4 22:05:46 2h 06m Back at Valborgne Manor ♥ 0 Cool atmosphere! I had fun but eventually gave up after going through (I think) 6 or 7 levels. The journal entries were different but other than that the level design felt very similar so I wasn't sure if I'm actually advancing. Would be nice if there was a clearer indication of progress.
Dec 4 22:17:30 11m 44s Gore Chore ♥ 1 I wanted to play this game, but I couldn't find the download link in the itch.io page. What am I missing?
Dec 4 23:17:58 1h 00m Subject 43 ♥ 3 Nice game, and cool idea for the mechanic! I played through the 3 levels and had a lot of fun with it. Especially liked the art and animation, and the different enemies that behave differently. Regarding the theme, it didn't really feel like I was consciously sacrificing the previous character to gain their ability - it was more like - I died because I couldn't get past a specific enemy and then I got the exact ability I need to gain that ability on the next playthrough. Maybe it would have been better if the sacrifice was an active decision of the player?
Dec 4 23:28:38 10m 40s Mars attacks ♥ 0 * WebGL version is broken for me - it shows only a small part of the screen so the game is not really playable * I tried to play through the windows version, but every time I tried I got killed in 10 seconds. Would be nice if the game started out a bit easier with one or two enemies instead of immediately bombarding you with tens of enemies when you're still learning the mechanic. * I tried installing machine gun towers and flame towers very quickly but they still didn't do much to the enemies * Some of the towers I placed seem to be placed very high in the air (close to the camera) - seems to be a bug. Overall looks like a really fun idea but I couldn't really play through the game.
Dec 4 23:39:27 10m 49s Path of the Programmer ♥ 1 Nice idea, congratulations on completing the game! Would be nice to have a few more options, but as you said it's hard to make things too complicated in the limited time of the jam. But maybe you can work on improving it in a post jam version? (maybe if you find something else to sacrifice to get the time for it :) )
Dec 5 00:03:42 24m 15s CUTE ROBOTS ♥ 1 Cute robots! Really liked talking with the small ones! The mechanic was really confusing and took me a while to understand. I couldn't defeat the boss because for some reason the game became really sluggish and unplayable once I've had too many robots :(
Dec 5 00:44:52 41m 10s Mindu's Hope ♥ 1 Really nice puzzle game! I got stumped eventually - tried for more than 10 minutes but couldn't get over it. Will be really happy if you post a walkthrough video, I'm curious how to get past the point I reached. How many levels are there? Would be nice if the 'mouse click' mechanic was explained in-game (instead of only in the game description here and on itch.io). I accidentally skipped reading the description and it took me a while to figure it out :)
Dec 5 05:21:46 4h 36m Blob Time ♥ 3 Wow, probably my favorite game so far! The puzzles were great, some really stumped me, especially the last level! (it took me a while to figure out you could run through these doors without sacrificing a part of yourself). Also really liked your idea for using the theme as a puzzle mechanic. Good work! My only complain: you should have added a restart level button. I had to press S repeatedly to sacrifice myself every time I wanted to restart and it was a bit annoying.
Dec 5 05:35:09 13m 23s Demon Rabbit Solitaire ♥ 1 Fun game! Got a score of 345 eventually. I hoped there was a way to completely satisfy the rabbit but after 5 minutes of playing I gave up on that. But then I kept playing for 5 more minutes just because it was fun :) Cool rules and the talking rabbit really adds to the charm.
Dec 5 05:53:41 18m 32s Cave Adventures ♥ 2 Really cool game, enjoyed it a lot! I'm glad you added respawn points mid-level because it would have been super frustrating to die near the end of the last level otherwise :) The art of the main character kind of reminded me of the "lemmings" characters (from the lemmings game). I wonder - was that intentional or is it just my weird association?
Dec 5 06:03:13 9m 32s Quest For Gory ♥ 1 Awesome that you've made an actual adventure game in 2 days! It was really short but I enjoyed my time with it. One thing that would be nice to add if you plan on making a full adventure game would be a "hotspot detector" which would save some pixel hunting time (took me a while to find the stick of dynamite). Another thing that kind of bothered me was clicking on the player giving the "overworked" line. I accidentally clicked on the player around 20 times during my short playthrough, so would probably be better not to get a response. All in all, great entry!
Dec 5 06:22:51 19m 38s Demon Queen's Possessions ♥ 1 Very challenging game! I managed to get to round 13, and I only got that far due to a lot of luck. I would be really interested in seeing a walkthrough to see if there's a way to advance further (is there a way to win this game?) I played for almost 20 minutes and really enjoyed my time! I really liked the graphics style and especially the sprite of the witch and the way it interacts with the interface.
Dec 5 06:49:26 26m 35s Zoe and the Polypantheon ♥ 1 Really cool! Visually it looked amazing for a 72 hour game! I liked the mechanic, the story was great, and it was really awesome that you included the journal and the brochure. I did get stuck eventually (I got the ritual items for all the gods I had in the wheel except for the one that looks sort of like a bear). Would be nice if you could included a tutorial/walkthrough so I could go past the part where I was stuck. Great game!
Dec 5 08:13:08 1h 23m Silent Whisper ♥ 1 * Awesome story, and really well written * Art is amazing - really liked the look of this game * Events got a bit repetitive after a while - would be nice to have more variety * Would be nice to get some sort of progress indication - I passed around 400 miles but I don't know if that's a lot. Would be nie to know what distance is "left" in the game.
Dec 5 09:26:02 1h 12m Down Below ♥ 0 Awesome platformer! I managed to finish - it was pretty challenging (but fair).
Dec 5 18:16:03 8h 50m Hire Power ♥ 2 Amazing game! Some things I liked in particular: 1. Awesome music! 2. Very novel mechanic and great puzzle design 3. Funny cut-scenes and voice acting 4. Great in-game tutorial 5. So much content! It actually took me more than an hour to play through the game :) Some problems I had: 1. Some of the in-game tutorial didn't work. For example, I didn't really need to use the DOWN button until pretty late (level 2-5 was the first time I used it), so I didn't really understand what it did when I got to 2-5 and it took me a looong time to pass that level because of this. Another example is in the beginning of world 2 where the level tried to teach you that you can get rid of mistakes - I didn't actually need to get rid of any mistakes in that level, would have been nice if it was forced on me. 2. Since the number of non-sacrificed followers is important, would be nice if that was indicated somewhere 3. Restart animation too slow - since I had to restart some levels many times it became a bit annoying after a while 4. Most levels felt very tightly designed, but few were too packed and felt like busy work. For example level 2-10 where for most of the people it's pretty obvious how to get them to the lava, but it takes a lot of time and if you accidentally make a mistake near the end you need to do it all again. 5. Encountered two annoying bugs: * In level 1-10 the top middle follower stopped following me if I had him fall to the left (even after sacrificing all other followers) * In level 3-8 I first tried to solve without using the ice. I made the right guy a follower and tried to get him to jump without falling myself. Eventually we both fell, and I got the "too many followers" message and the game was stuck (couldn't even restart the level). It's a good thing you had "Shift+N" implemented because it allowed me to restart the game and skip to the level I was in. Anyway, great work, really liked playing the game!
Dec 5 18:22:07 6m 04s HMS Sacrifice ♥ 0 Cool idea! I managed to save everyone :) Liked the pixel art drawing of the characters. It wasn't really clear from the game why the captain has to sacrifice himself since there seemed to be more life boats after I saved everyone. Would be nice if there were exactly enough life boats for the passengers and none were left for the captain.
Dec 5 18:38:44 16m 37s Cultist of sacrifices ♥ 1 Cool game and concept! I especially liked the sounds you made for the dialog! It took me a while to figure out what "bring a bull" means (I kept killing bulls and wondered why it didn't work), but eventually managed to figure it out and complete the game. Had a lot of fun! One thing that bothered me a bit though - in the last part where you have to kill 100 knights, this part is not very challenging. That's fine, and it was fun to feel all-powerful and kill tons of knights easily, but it got old after the first 20-30 knights I killed, and then it took me a long time to kill 70 more. I think it would be nice to make the number of knights you need to kill in this section smaller (or at least make the knights crowd in more specific regions so you could kill many of them at once). Anyway, really nice game!
Dec 5 18:54:09 15m 25s The Curse of the Conquistador ♥ 2 Cool mechanic with dynamic abilities! I wasn't sure how much it actually constitutes a sacrifice, because some of the abilities you "sacrifice" actually help you (e.g., you sacrifice your weight but it allows you to skip buttons that have bad effects). In any case, the mechanic was really fun and I enjoyed playing it. A few minor things that bothered me: 1) Some of the abilities required to pass certain obstacles weren't obvious - e.g., it took me a long time to figure out that the guards don't let you pass if you're making noise. Would be nice if there was some visual indication of this. 2) I eventually got stuck in the second level, in the part where there's a button on the floor that causes spikes to shoot and a closed door right next to the button (with some enemies waiting behind the door). How could I open this door? Anyway, had a lot of fun with this game!
Dec 5 19:24:00 29m 51s Robot Altar ♥ 1 Really nice artwork and great mechanic idea! Would be nice to have less steep learning curve. The first level took me a while to figure out, and the second level took me a really long time! (maybe I'm just really bad at this game).
Dec 5 19:40:36 16m 36s The nightmare ♥ 1 Really nice atmosphere! I think if you had more than the 72 hours you could turn this into a pretty cool and atmospheric adventure game. As others, it took me a while to figure out that interact is E (I tried SPACE and left mouse click). Also, would be nice to say when picking up notes something like "Press escape to read" (I only found out you could read the notes after reading the comments on this page). Regarding the art - I think it looks incredible and very atmospheric, but since you said you didn't make all of it I don't really know how to score. In any case, everything I saw I really liked so good job! :)
Dec 5 20:08:10 27m 34s Puzzle Kids ♥ 3 Really cool mechanic, and the art is great. I had a lot of fun playing this, spent about 20 minutes trying to beat my high score! Some of the puzzles are very difficult to figure out! I also wasn't sure - did all the pieces fit or were some misfitting pieces put there on purpose? I eventually managed to get only to level 4... but I'll try again later, I want to try to beat my high score again. How many levels are there?
Dec 5 20:32:15 24m 05s Void Light ♥ 1 Really cool graphics experiment! It's awesome that it's all generated and written with shaders.
Dec 5 21:32:28 1h 00m Wicked Kinders ♥ 4 Really liked the art, the dancing santa, and the "bad" ending :) I didn't enjoy the gameplay so much (of looking for things near the children's bed at night) but I really enjoyed the idea and the atmosphere!
Dec 5 21:43:36 11m 08s Timbo ♥ 1 Nice that you've made this in 12 hours! I liked the cat creature and the walking animation.
Dec 5 23:09:13 1h 25m Blood Cult Sim ♥ 1 Enjoyed the idea and the mood! I couldn't quite understand the relation between my choices and what was going on in the game - it felt like my choices didn't really affect anything - I eventually just made random choices (basically choosing "make the cult grow" if I had few cultists and "sacrifices must be made" if I had a lot of cultists) and managed to complete the game (I did play on easy though). Anyway, I do think the idea has potential and could definitely be expanded! I liked the animations that are going on in the city while you're playing.
Dec 5 23:29:19 20m 06s How much are you willing to sacrifice? ♥ 4 Liked the visuals (the mixture of the 2d sprite and the 3d background/level). I really enjoyed the gameplay, but the lack of checkpoints made me eventually give up. I did try for almost 20 minutes, but I couldn't even reach the end game before sacrificing sound/visuals. I might try again later today as I really want to complete the challenge, but for now I need a bit of break from this.. I did enjoy my time with it though! Thanks for making it! :)
Dec 5 23:51:20 22m 01s Deity Hook-Up (Not A Romance) ♥ 1 Congratulations on your first game! It was really short (I reached all endings in less than 5 minutes) but I really enjoyed the time I spent with it. The art was really nice and the writing is good. It's awesome that you managed to do it in 24 hours! I'm sure if you spend more time you can make a full visual novel game that would be really fun!
Dec 6 00:04:08 12m 48s Please Player ♥ 1 Cool experience. Especially liked the voice acting!
Dec 6 00:12:03 7m 55s Triage Mania ♥ 1 I'm just starting to review your game now, but before I do - wanted to let you know that you have a folder in your executable download that is called "LudumDare43_BackUpThisFolder_ButDontShipItWithYourGame". You might want to remove it from the build so that the download is 30MB instead of 230MB :)_
Dec 6 07:37:16 7h 25m Goblin Quest ♥ 0 Really awesome game!! I must say I had very low expectations going into this (just due to the way it looks) but it eventually kept me engaged for almost 20 minutes :) I still don't know how you get through the story though. Can you provide a hint? I thought maybe getting the amulet would provide the hero with the previous one's ability (e.g., so I could then sneak into the Elder's home and read the mystical symbols he has there). Could you please provide a hint? I could look through the source code but I'm afraid of spoilers :) By the way, I think it's well written, but I noticed two typos in the text: 1. If you’re able to retrive it will grant you a portion of their power! It should be "If you're able to retrieve it, it will grant you..." So one "it" is dropped, and "retrieve" is mispelled (I think that was the misspelling I saw, I'm not entirely sure because textedit on mac auto corrected the spelling when I pasted it). This one really confused me - I actually tried to look up the word retrive and eventually I just didn't understand what this was trying to say. It took me a few times to understand I can get the previous hero's power by retrieving the amulet. 2. “You thank hime for the mighty weapon” (instead of thank him). Anyway, really nice work, thank you for making the game!
Dec 6 08:00:41 23m 25s Oblatio ♥ 0 Cool game and nice concept :) Especially liked the ending scene! A few things that bothered me: * The feeding animation was really slow, and gets old really fast (since you have to feed the animals so many times in this game). I think I wouldn't have minded so much if it at least did not stop the player so I could keep feeding other animals while the first animal is eating. * The game was not challenging at all. I think the concept has potential and there are a lot of things that could be added to make this a lot more challenging. Some ideas I thought of: - Having limited resources so you need to make sure you don't waste food items. E.g., prefer to feed the goats (I don't remember, was it goats?) with leaves and not carrot because the bunnies can only eat the carrots and you don't want to waste them - Punish the player for feeding the wrong food to the wrong animal * The limited inventory didn't really feel like it added to the challenge - especially because feeding animation was so slow, I never felt the bottleneck to advancing was walking around to pick up more stuff. And - you only have limited inventory in the first levels which are easy anyway. In any case, really cool concept and great execution. Thank you for making the game! :)
Dec 6 09:05:52 1h 05m My Little Daily Sacrifice ♥ 0 Just wanted to say webgl version doesn't show the entire screen on my laptop (the left and right edges seem to be missing). I'll review this later when I can do it on my desktop.
Dec 6 21:10:26 12h 04m Cultist's Quest ♥ 1 I really liked the way the dungeon looks! (you seem to have a lot of varied tiles and it feels very polished) It really adds to the mood, and I was very immersed in traversing the dungeons. A few things that bothered me though: 1) The player movement was *very* slow, especially compared to how big the dungeons are. Sometimes getting from a key back to a locked door would take a very long time and could get pretty frustrating. 2) I think it would feel a lot less janky if the player movement was continuous instead of jumping from tile to tile (you can still have players snap to a tile when they let go, but it would just make the animation look more fluid when you're moving around). 3) Controls were not very intuitive, so would be nice to have a way to get a reminder after you start the game. I played for a while and completely forgot there's a key for "sacrifice", and saw it only after I restarted the game again. Anyway, great entry, thank you for making the game!
Dec 6 21:24:52 14m 26s Fly Lightly ♥ 1 Had a lot of fun playing! Took me two attempts to manage to beat it. I really like the art style and it really made me feel panicked while I was playing it, so good job on the atmosphere! :) As others said, I found the fact you can't move while the ship shakes to be a bit annoying. Maybe would be nice if the shaking could somehow make it harder for you to move but still allow you to move somewhat. Not sure how exactly to do that, but the fact your character just stops reacting to key presses while the shake is happening makes it feel like you are losing agency and it's not a good feeling. Anyway, great game, thank you for making it!
Dec 6 22:36:01 1h 11m Flower>You ♥ 1 I found the art style (and color palette) very pleasing, and the controls felt really good. The gameplay was a bit too simple to feel engaged but I still had fun playing around with it. Would be nice if it kept a high score. My personal best - I managed to survive for 45 seconds :)
Dec 6 23:02:47 26m 46s Slime Laboratory ♥ 1 I really liked how polished the interface feels! In general the game looks very professional and I really enjoyed the art style. I am not sure I fully figured out the gameplay though. I made tons of creatures that I thought were supposed to match the "order" requirements but did not get the correct keyword (e.g., "bloodlust", "perfect" etc.) I assume it's missing because of lack of time, but would be really nice if we had one or two "tutorial levels" before this real one starts to teach the mechanic. Anyway, congrats on making this!
Dec 6 23:23:12 20m 25s The Interview ♥ 1 Made me laugh :) I really liked the art style and the animations, the idea was really good, the "sacrifices" you make at the beginning are a pretty unique variation on the theme :) Too bad it was so short. Also, would be nice if the questions/answers were more randomized, so I would not already know the answers, and could experiment more with making different sacrifices at the beginning and finding out what is optimal. by the way, one thing I'm not sure I figured out - what's the effect of not pooping at the beginning?
Dec 7 00:13:37 50m 25s Platformer.txt ♥ 1 Awesome concept! It was pretty short but had some tricky levels and was really fun.
Dec 7 00:23:39 10m 02s Moloch's Priest ♥ 1 Yeah, too bad you had to opt out of audio, the audio was excellent here! I hope you'll be compensated by getting great scores in mood category. I loved the way Moloch looks here! In general, really cool concept for this game.
Dec 7 05:00:13 4h 36m Metamorphosis ♥ 1 One of the most polished I've seen on this Ludum Dare! It looks amazing, and I really enjoyed playing it. The theme was very well implemented, and having to hurt yourself to grow the flowers I really physically felt like I was making a sacrifice. The story was nice and self contained, but I would definitely play more if this was expanded to a longer game.
Dec 7 16:43:32 11h 43m Udder Chaos ♥ 0 Really nice story! I liked how the characters look and the sacrifice animation. It's also nice how the levels get progressively harder and it was really fun trying to avoid the farmers. A few minor things I think could be improved: 1) It was a bit hard to eat the grass - for some reason I needed to be directed in a very specific angle to be able to target it 2) Would be nice if dialog in cut-scenes would be skippable. Cut-scenes were really cool but got repetitive after a while 3) It wasn't very clear to me why you need to eat the grass - usually I only managed to eat one or two pieces of grass but it seemed to be enough. Anyway, had a lot of fun playing the game!
Dec 8 07:06:38 14h 23m Night of the BloodMoon ♥ 1 Very fun game! I really like how it looked and gameplay was fun. Especially liked the final boss! Two nits that bothered me a little bit: 1) Wasn't sure what was the point of blinking. My fighting strategy only used spells and healing and it seemed to work fine. Would be nice if there was an enemy type that would make it advantageous to blink 2) When I was fighting the final boss, I wasn't sure if I was making progress. Would be nice if there was more indication of it being more hurt every time you hit it (I did manage to bit it eventually) Anyway, really fun game, thank you for making it!
Dec 8 07:22:30 15m 52s King's Last Stand ♥ 1 Really awesome game! I was very surprised when I saw it's a compo and not a jam game. It was very well made. I also found it very hard - I worked very hard to finally be able to reach wave 7 on the last bit of health and then was killed pretty quickly. After reading the tips - I realized you could send the Astra forward without aiming at anyone and then they would harm creatures that try to chase you. I think that could have probably been explained better in the game - I was basically just using them as ammo. Anyway, this is super polished, and very fun and challenging. Thank you for making this!
Dec 8 08:22:55 1h 00m Reap what you sow ♥ 1 Loved the graphics, and was had a lot of fun playing this game! The only minor complaint I have is that it's very hard to know how much should let the crop grow without experimenting. I lost my first two games because I didn't know you could grow each plant enough to be worth 3 crops.
Dec 8 08:36:22 13m 27s Volcano Royale XTREME ♥ 0 Really fun game, and loved the music! There was one super tense moment where I was pushed almost to the edge and it felt very dramatic :) At the end of wave 6 I beat all the enemies but there was a bug where the game would not advance to the next wave. I eventually sacrificed myself to the lava and then saw the end-game via the playthrough video. Anyway, very cool entry!
Dec 8 09:14:56 38m 34s Captain's Dilemma ♥ 1 Awesome game! I had a lot of fun playing it, one of my favorites so far! I liked that as the game advanced it got progressively harder but never started feeling unfair. The missing sprites also were a nice touch.
Dec 8 09:33:13 18m 17s Altruist Project ♥ 2 I thought the game looked and felt very good. I loved the death animations! Despite the frustrating random mechanics, it kept me engaged for almost 10 minutes, and I enjoyed the anticipation of how far I could go this time. However, I could not figure out the hints for where the traps are located, so eventually gave up because I couldn't get very far through the level. Regarding the sacrifice, it felt like there was no real reason to choose one person versus another (unless I missed something). I ran out of items pretty much immediately after someone joined my party since the items were one time use (I almost always had a character in the party that didn't hold any items so I would just sacrifice them). Anyway, I had a lot of fun, so thank you for making this!
Dec 8 09:43:30 10m 17s Sacrifice Them ♥ 0 Really liked the sprites and the rag-doll physics! In general game looked really beautiful. Gameplay mechanics wise, I felt like there wasn't muchthere - the timer doesn't really have a point because you get more time when you sacrifice and I ended with having almost an hour left on the timer. Anyway, the graphics style and the controls definitely have potential and could be used in a really fun game!
Dec 8 09:58:02 14m 32s Wildfire: Forest Containment ♥ 0 Original take on the theme, and was very fun and challenging.
Dec 8 10:08:36 10m 34s superstar ♥ 1 Very fun game, and I loved the retro art style!
Dec 8 10:17:37 9m 01s NoooooMan ♥ 3 Concept was very innovative and made me laugh. I really liked the animations, and the levels got surprisingly tricky near the end. I beat the game and had a lot of fun doing it.
Dec 8 10:25:25 7m 48s Scapesheeps ♥ 1 Awesome take on the theme!! I love how you included many different gameplay elements (the fire, the wolf, the seesaw) and ways for them to interact. Had a lot of fun playing through it. The controls were difficult (controlling both the sacrifice and the flock) but I guess that was intentional and it was frustrating in a fun way :)
Dec 8 18:00:46 7h 35m Rogues Like Beer ♥ 1 Awesome puzzle game! Loved the art style, and the puzzles were challenging and fun to solve. Liked the music too.
Dec 8 18:12:06 11m 20s Colors of Your World ♥ 1 Incredible game! I really enjoyed playing through the levels. Would be happy for a full game made with these mechanics :) I also liked your take on the sacrifice theme.
Dec 9 05:05:05 10h 52m Send In The Interns ♥ 1 Graphics were excellent. Almost has qualities of a finished product. I think you designed some excellent puzzles! One thing that bothered me though (and maybe it's just my personal taste) - it seems like the main challenge is in getting 3 stars at every level, since just passing the level was always trivial (as long as you don't care about sacrificing interns, it's very easy to make some of them reach the end). I think it would be better if even just the challenge of completing the level would be more difficult (e.g., by limiting the number of interns, or at least not allowing the player to proceed if >X interns are sacrificed). Otherwise, I found your idea very funny, and I enjoyed my time with the game.
Dec 9 05:22:39 17m 34s Impatient Patients ♥ 3 Nice idea, and I think it has some potential! I definitely had fun playing through it. Some things that bothered me: 1) Movement - obviously would be better to implement WASD+mouse for movement. It's also a bit to understand the patient is following you (at first I thought he's taking me somewhere) 2) I'm not sure if there's a queue I'm supposed to follow for patients, so I just picked patients randomly and eventually died because I had many patients that were waiting for a long time in the waiting room. Did I miss anything? Is there a way to know how long a patient has been waiting? 3) Would be nice to provide a way to skip dialog - once it started being repetitive I wanted to get on with the gameplay and not waste time reading the dialog I already read. Some things I liked: 1) The waiting room is modeled very nicely. I really enjoyed walking around it and looking around. I also liked the character models for the patients. 2) I liked the audio - characters talking, music that played during operation 3) Dialog was funny and it was pretty varied 4) The instructions for the operations was vague, but I actually liked that! It gave some challenge trying to figure out which is which and what I should do. Anyway, my game was cut short very quickly (as I said above, because I left some patients for too long in the waiting room), but I think it has potential and I would love to play a full version of this if you continue working on this.
Dec 9 07:46:52 2h 24m Sleep Is For The Weak ♥ 1 Really cool idea, and the game looks and feels very good! The main thing that bothered me is that it's not clear what's the motivation for actually typing anything. I kept typing as fast as I could because I hoped the game keeps count of how many code I wrote so I would get some kind of score at the end, but eventually it just said I made a killer game so I'm not even sure if the code I wrote had any effect. Two more minor things that made my life harder: 1. It took me a while to figure out that you're supposed to type in the code. Would be nice to get a prompt from the game like "Start typing to code". After messing around with clicking on different things with the mouse, I finally read the instructions page where it said "Space Bar - Toggle keyboard". This made me go back and mash the space bar a lot. Only after mashing the space bar repeatedly for about a minute, I figured out I can type in other letters as well :) 2. There's a bug where if you type a few spaces instead of a tab, the entire text appears green but it still doesn't go to the next code block until you replace the spaces with the tab. Anyway, I thought the game looks really good and could become pretty addictive if you added a score and a high-score table :)
Dec 9 07:53:06 6m 14s Jamming Dilemma ♥ 0 Cool idea, and I liked the drawings and the interface. Congrats on making a pretty cool small game for your first LD!
Dec 9 08:05:21 12m 15s Turtle Torture ♥ 1 I really liked the art style! It was very simple but consistent and pleasant. I think the character moves too slow which makes it a bit frustrating to move around and look for stuff. I eventually died on the second night because I couldn't find enough sticks and I didn't want to try again because it was so slow (also would be nice if you could skip to the next day once you founded what you needed to sacrifice). In any case, it was a very solid first entry, and amazing that you managed to get it done for the COMPO after you missed the first day!
Dec 9 08:29:13 23m 52s Sacrificial Sam ♥ 1 Great puzzle game! Really liked your puzzle design and how the different abilities are used. The ending was a funny and fitting conclusion to the story.
Dec 9 08:47:19 18m 06s Follow the Leader ♥ 0 Cool idea for the game, and congrats on accomplishing this in only 35 hours! I liked the concept of controlling the leader but using the abilities of everyone in your party who are following you, and it looks like you have some interesting ideas for designing more levels and adding more challenges to the game, so I'd be really interested to see what you come up with if you spend more time on this.
Dec 9 09:03:05 15m 46s Battling Madness ♥ 1 Wow, 2 entries in a single jam? :) Game was very fun. I managed to get to level 8 and I think there's no boss on that level because I kept running around avoiding the two shadow monsters for quite a while until I was eventually killed. I did "cheat" though because I encountered something which I think was a bug - at the end of one of the levels, I chose the sacrifice "+hp reverse movement" and for some reason it made my firing bullets much larger, making the game considerably easier. Also, the reverse movement I got actually reversed a reversed movement I got in a previous level (not sure if that was intended). One other thing - only on my third replay I realized that the "- view" sacrifice actually zooms in on the character. The first two attempts I thought it did nothing. Maybe I'm less observational than average, but I think it would have been clearer if either: 1. instead of zooming in you would just make the play space smaller or 2. there would be some animation that makes it very clear the camera is zooming in Anyway, cool game, had a lot of fun, love the particle effects the animations and the enemy designs.
Dec 9 09:37:29 34m 24s After Hours: A Reverse Metroidvania ♥ 3 Liked the concept, thought it's going to be action-y but it turned out to be a very cool puzzle game :) Maybe I mis-read something, but I think one of the "hint givers" told me that I need to return lava boots last, and it really messed me up - I spent a lot of time trying to find an alternate way to reach the lava boots guy without using the double jump. Was that supposed to misdirect the player or did I read the information incorrectly? Anyway, I really enjoyed beating this puzzle. Starting out I thought it would be frustrating to figure out the order, but after walking around the station for a while I got to know it pretty well, and it was very satisfying when I got the order correct. Graphics were great as well.
Dec 9 11:06:34 1h 29m Pre-Life ♥ 1 What I didn't like: * Getting around was not very easy, especially because the campus was pretty big. It's not very clear which corners of the screen have an exit and which do not (for example, just outside your room, it took me a while to figure out you can exit to the left). Also, would be nice to have access to an overview map of the place. * I didn't really feel like I had to sacrifice too much in the game - studying with my roommate improved both my social and education, and going on dates improved both my social and health, so I could stay with all three attributes pretty high during the game. Would be nice if it felt more like I have to commit to one specific path. * It took me a long time to figure out how to improve health. The only thing I found other then dating that improves health is eating hamburger, and that improves it by only a little bit (I found it funny that the only thing I found in the game that improves health for my first playthrough was eating junkfood :) ) What I did like: * I think the look of the game is awesome - it's very simple, but it gets the job done and it's pleasing to look at. * I liked the mechanics of moving the character. * I really liked the premise and think it definitely has potential to become a really engaging game! * Overall I had a lot of fun playing the game twice and reaching different endings.
Dec 9 21:28:45 10h 22m TAMUTU ♥ 1 Really cool game, I loved all the boss fights! :) Only thing that bothered me - there's pretty much no reason not to constantly hold the FIRE button. Would be nice if there was more of a reason to be careful with when you press it (e.g., an enemy with a shield that reflects shots back to you), otherwise I just hold the FIRE button all the time and forget about it. Anyway, really awesome game, thank you for making it! (also, I love the name :) )
Dec 10 03:08:06 5h 39m MiMi ♥ 1 Cool idea! I think this has the potential to be a fun game. I found it a bit too easy at this stage (maybe there should be some sort of punishment for killing aliens so I'll be motivated to finish with killing as few as possible). Loved the particle animation when they explode!
Dec 10 21:13:02 18h 04m Documentia ♥ 2 Awesome idea! I really liked the artwork and the dialog. The sacrifice theme was well implemented. It would be nice if the characters would have been a bit more developed so by the time I have to delete them I care more about them. I know it's a bit hard to do in such a short game :)
Dec 10 23:47:58 2h 34m Kaiten ♥ 1 The game looks really good! I loved the underwater effect and together with the audio it really got me immersed. Gameplay was simple but pretty fun. I liked your take on the theme.
Dec 11 00:00:38 12m 40s Colossus ♥ 1 What I liked: * The colossus looks really good, awesome boss to fight. * You really nailed the mood with the music and the visuals * Particle effects were awesome * Defeating the colossus felt very satisying What I didn't like: * It wasn't very clear from the game (without reading the instructions) that slashing the colossus gives you the ability to jump again. Would be nice if it would be more clear visually (e.g., your character shines when it can jump, it gains a shine when it hits the colossus and loses it when it jumps) * I wasn't sure what the ultimate objective was. I killed two colossus and kept walking side to side to find others to defeat but no one showed up. I eventually quit the game - did I miss anything? Overall, really nice first entry!
Dec 11 00:13:23 12m 45s Subway Crisis ♥ 1 Game made me really nostalgic for old adventure games :) Good job on the pixel graphics, and the interface felt great. My only complaint is that the game was really short and didn't feel like there's much of a challenge, but I guess that's expected for a game made in such a short time period. I think if you build this into a full game with the same style of graphics it could be a really awesome adventure game. I also liked the story, and overall, enjoyed playing the game.
Dec 11 01:38:32 1h 25m Viking Snow Fight ♥ 3 Cool game. What I liked: 1. Beautiful art style 2. Great mood, great music 3. Cool "surprise" at the end of the fight What I didn't like: 1. Got a bit repetitive starting from the second fight - would be nice if there were different surprises at the end instead of the same one every time. 2. Difficulty progression - I played through the game to the end and I felt the last level was not harder than the first one. Maybe I just got better? I'm not sure, but the snowballs didn't feel like they are getting harder to avoid. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with the game, thank you for submitting!
Dec 11 02:06:06 27m 34s Platform43 - Die to progress! ♥ 1 Cool game. I managed to get 105 points eventually :) I did get some cases where the platforms would spawn at places which I think were unreachable given the jumping height, not sure if it's a bug or if I had a way to double jump to get to them. I really liked the art style!
Dec 11 03:15:01 1h 08m Broken Knight ♥ 1 I liked the sprites of the main character and enemies! Probably would look great if they were animated! The main character's attack and jump already look pretty good even though each is only one frame. Some of the hit boxes were too big - I found myself hitting enemies when they were still pretty far from me. I encountered a few bugs: - after the first sacrifice, in the boss fight, I went off screen to the right and my character disappeared and I couldn't get it back :( - during the final boss fight at one point I fell beneath the bottom floor and then the level restarted but I couldn't click on the "sacrifice shield" button - There's a problem with the game camera - e.g., in the final boss, if I go left to the edge, the camera won't move left to show me where I'm going, but then it will suddenly move when I look back right at the boss Anyway, I had a lot of fun, especially with the boss fights! (the final boss was really hard to beat :) )
Dec 11 18:12:55 14h 57m aberth: simple text based choose your own adventure ♥ 1 Very creative use of Google forms! :) I liked the story, well written and very dark. Awesome that this is done as part of a game design class!
Dec 11 18:44:12 31m 17s The best sacrifice ♥ 1 Great game! It looks great, and has a nice play on the theme I laughed when the god demanded human sacrifice and everyone suddenly starts killing each other :) I found it a bit strange when I died and immediately respawned. First time it happened I wasn't sure what was going on, would be nice to have some visual indication for what's happening.
Dec 11 18:56:48 12m 36s Cowboy Hell ♥ 1 Cool game! Would be nice if the effects of the different stats were explained somewhere. I kind of had to guess which ones are important (I ended up sacrificing my health and speed to increase all of my other stats) I liked the voice acting! However, when my character was hitting the enemies they were both talking on top of each other so it was kind of hard to understand what they were saying.
Dec 11 20:17:50 1h 21m Tiima's Sacrifice ♥ 1 Had a lot of fun with this game! Found it pretty addictive and played it for probably longer than I should have :) I managed to complete it eventually, and only had to sacrifice one villager. Would be nice if there was a way to quickly see the stats for all the animals, it got kind of tedious clicking on them one by one just to see the weight/size/strength of each.
Dec 11 23:37:39 3h 19m The Sacrificial Trail ♥ 1 Enjoyed the game a lot! The writing is really good, and I liked the challenge of balancing between the gasoline usage, the fatigue level, and the money. Two problems I had: 1. When you find the unicorn, if you choose to only give him a single coffee and press confirm it says "the unicorn takes your coffee, nods, and leaves", but then if you press "confirm" again before it goes to the next page (it takes a second to go to the next page), the unicorn will take one additional coffee. In my first game, I lost all my coffee to the unicorn a few times because of this (I was just mashing the button and didn't notice the text, and was then surprised I didn't have any coffee :) ) 2. On my second playthrough, I've only met the unicorn once, before visiting any shop, when I only had 2 coffees. I gave them all the coffees I have, but it wasn't enough to appease him and get the good ending. So, essentially I had no way of getting the good ending on my second playthrough. It would be nice if the unicorn was guaranteed to show up at least once during your travels so you'll have a chance. I eventually managed to get the best ending on my third attempy.
Dec 11 23:56:57 19m 18s CROM ♥ 1 Great game! Pretty hard, took me a while to finish it (I've never hurt the dog). I loved how the theme here was used both for emotional impact and for gameplay mechanics.
Dec 12 00:10:24 13m 27s The Grassland Kings ♥ 1 Had fun playing the game, though as other said, I've found too hard. I gave up on actually beating the thing after around 20 attempts :) I loved the nostalgic pixelated characters!
Dec 12 00:53:31 43m 07s Death Wish ♥ 1 Awesome game! Had a lot of fun playing this, reminded me of old games I really liked like golden axe and double dragon. I f-ed up by not saving enough special attacks for the final boss. I managed to kill all of his goons but eventually he killed me after I only took down 75% of his health. I need a break now, but I'll try again later :)
Dec 12 01:46:37 53m 06s Sacricent ♥ 1 Loved the idea, and the way the enemies look and move around! I really liked all the effects of limbs falling around and the enemies shooting projectile. In general had a lot of fun playing this game. One thing that bothered me though - it's very hard to play this game with Ctrl in web version, at least on mac. My mac kept interpreting Ctrl+Up as bringing up my mission control and messed up my game. Would be nice if this was mapped to a different key. In any case, great game!
Dec 12 16:34:25 14h 47m Can't save them all! ♥ 0 Really fun game, and cool concept! As others have said, the AI has some issues. Here's a gif example: ezgif-5-6db62b9f2df7.gif you can see the kamikaze attacker on the right stays still although it could destroy my people every time. But even with the current AI, I had a lot of fun with the game, and I really liked how the sacrifice theme was realized here. In my best game, I managed to save 88 people.
Dec 12 16:46:04 11m 39s God's Thirst ♥ 1 Awesome game! I liked how it looked, especially the blood effects and throwing the bodies down the pit. It's very simple but fun to play and pretty addictive.
Dec 12 16:56:31 10m 27s Rablat ♥ 1 Really awesome game! I loved the story and the way it was presented. I actually wish you would turn this into a longer story. I also liked how you mixed between adventure and platforming mechanics.
Dec 12 18:06:38 1h 10m Sacrifices Must Be Made ♥ 1 Wow, this was amazing. And can't believe this was a compo game. I really liked the card game mechanic, and it took me a while to manage to win the last round! (I did cut my hand but I assume there's no way to win without it?) I did find two bugs: 1) The warren bug (getting infinite rabbits) 2) The game got stuck to me once when I sacrificed a cat when the table was full. The cat doesn't die but there's no place on the table to place the new card. The game got stuck and I could only continue by quitting and restarting. Anyway, awesome job, this is a great game.
Dec 18 06:34:29 132h 27m Aetherspirit ♥ 1 Wow, amazing game, especially for a compo entry! (but also amazing compared to most jam entries) Excellent level design, I loved the puzzle of using all abilities to get the rainbows. Took me a while to figure out you can go left with the pushy guy. Platforming also felt very solid. I had a lot of fun playing it. Thank you for making this game! :)
Dec 18 06:49:33 15m 04s Ethereal ♥ 1 Awesome game! I've played the original jam version but it definitely left me hungry for more so I'm going to check the post jam levels now :) I found the level before last to be the hardest (at first I didn't notice the colors on the left hand side and made them disappear by dropping too many items into pits, and then after I passed to the left hand side I was confused with how I'm supposed to turn into the other colors to finish the level, but I managed to get it in the end). Really liked the mechanic, and the music you wrote really added to the mood!
Dec 18 07:00:17 10m 44s Hostage Situation ♥ 1 I liked this a lot! The last level was a bit easier for me than the previous ones, but maybe it's because I've gotten better at the game :) Especially liked: 1. Pixelated art (and especially the pixelated Kanagawa paintings) 2. Animations 3. Feel of the game - bumping an enemy to kill them felt very satisfying My only complain is that it was really short. I would have enjoyed an hour or two more of this game! (but I guess that's a good thing)
Dec 18 07:09:50 9m 33s No Step Back ♥ 1 Really cool concept! It was fun, but also very hard for me - I managed to get around 70% of the way with two soldiers, and then they both got killed :)
Dec 18 19:17:44 12h 07m Sacrifice Knight ♥ 1 Had a lot of fun with this game! Graphics looked pretty good and I really liked the animations. The platform mechanics were very responsive and fun to play. I also really enjoyed the upgrade system, and getting to feel a bit more powerful each playthrough. My only complaint - I think it would be better to map a keyboard key for sword fighting. I didn't feel it was necessary to aim with the mouse, and it would have felt much nicer to be able to play completely with the keyboard (this was probably made a bit stronger for me because I played on a laptop using a trackpad instead of a mouse). In any case, great game!
Dec 20 06:28:30 35h 10m Omelettes ♥ 1 Wow, awesome game! I LOVED level 21, it took me a while, but when I finally figured out how to get that pan to the right place it was such a cool aha moment I haven't had for a long time. Amazing compo entry.
Dec 20 06:34:02 5m 32s Penelope ♥ 1 Really cool game. Loved the funny sound effects :) I really liked the idea, I think it could have been a bit more challenging (which means I would have loved to play it longer because I had a lot of fun in my short play-through). Really liked what you did with the sacrifice theme.
Dec 20 06:56:41 22m 39s Blót ♥ 1 Wow, this was a compo game!? That's incredible! It took me 9:57 so I'm very far from speed running it :) I loved the graphics, the animations, and the awesome ragdoll physics when you die! The game was very challenging in a good way, and had a lot of fun playing through it. I have a few nitpicks, though I feel funny mentioning them given the time constraints - what you've got is certainly incredible. Anyway, just for completeness, my nits: 1) It sometimes takes a long time after you die and the ragdoll physics start and until you get the "try again" button, which gets a bit annoying especially in the harder sections when you have to try a bunch of times. 2) The first "level" started with a jump that was very challenging for me (getting from the bottom part that has the crop back to the main path on the upper path). I'm not 100% sure if it was the first or second levels, but it felt a bit too early in the game for such a big challenge. 3) The 3 spikes that go up and down near the end were super difficult for me. I almost gave up - it took me a while to figure out you don't die if you bump them from the side and then I used that (basically bumping each spike from the left side, waiting for it to go down, and then jumping over it and bumping it from the right). However, before I found that strategy, I died around 20 times on the first spike and was very close to giving up. I'm not entirely sure how to fix it but the platforming on that section didn't feel very intuitive to me. 4) I think animation for cutting wood/crop should have been much faster. Especially near the end when the actual platforming gets really challenging, and you have to reply sections many times, waiting each time for the wood to be cut gets a bit old. Anyway, all of the above didn't detract much from my gameplay experience, it was still a really awesome game, definitely one of the best compo entries I've played! Thank you for making this fun game!
Dec 21 07:22:19 24h 25m Battlecraft : Orcs and Famine ♥ 0 Cool game! Took me a while to learn the events and their effects, it was pretty satisfying when I got better. My best was eventually 96 days.
Dec 24 06:13:17 70h 50m The March Of The Blobs ♥ 1 Awesome game! Level 7 was the hardest for me. The game was very fun for me and the level design was awesome. I found the last level a bit easier than I expected, but it was a great finale to the game.
Dec 26 07:13:21 49h 00m Typeless ♥ 1 The use of the sacrifice theme was very innovative. I had a lot of fun and played through the game a few times. Would be nice if the happy ending felt a bit more happy (since she ends up suddenly leaving).
Dec 26 07:39:36 26m 15s Unnecessary Evil ♥ 3 Awesome game! I really liked the puzzles, and it's a nice "twist" that you can eventually win the game without sacrificing anyone. I didn't find any problems with the controls (though agree about the comment above that a number for each character would be better than cycling through them with space). Anyway, really awesome entry!
Dec 27 00:55:16 17h 15m Hypnotized Jumpers ♥ 1 I liked the idea, great use of the theme! It was pretty fun, and I enjoyed playing it to the end. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't an end screen (or did I miss one?) The main problems I had with the game: 1) It didn't feel challenging enough - you start with so much lives that you are pretty much guaranteed to win the game after trying enough. Would be nice if you had to beat it with only a small amount of tombstones and had to think of interesting ways to get over obstacles without tombstones. 2) As others noted - getting stuck at the edge of platforms, without ability to jump, is annoying 3) Moving platforms behave a bit weird - it feels more intuitive if you would move along together with the moving platform (without having to move yourself) 4) I found the music very interesting and it definitely added to the mood, but for a looping music that plays throughout the game it was a bit too weird and got distracting after a while.
Dec 30 16:04:23 87h 09m F.O.U.R. ♥ 1 Very fun game! Adventure games are my favorite kind of games so it's great seeing this style of game done in the jam. I really liked the simple art style, the dialogs, and the puzzle for completing this game. Would be really happy to play a longer game done with this style! A few things that bothered me: 1. Probably better not to map ESCAPE to anything important if you have a web version, since on web it's mapped to getting out of full screen. I had to press escape twice and then back to full screen every time I picked up a new inventory item :) (I made the same mistake in my game by the way) 2. The town was pretty big - would be nice to have some kind of map feature to make it easier to navigate. 3. On my first play-through I somehow managed to get behind some buildings I probably wasn't supposed to, and eventually got stuck there and couldn't get back out (trees were blocking all ways back into the street). I don't remember exactly how I got there and couldn't reproduce this on my second playthough. In any case, I had a lot of fun with this game, thank you for making it!
