LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Colony Clash by stormburpee 2024-10-11T18:19:13Z

The music and art is dope. The heart of the cards is flawed. They are not readable when they are in your hand. When you pick them up, the text blurs, so I had no idea what i was doing. For reference on how to display the relevant info well, take a look at Slay The Spire (best card game I've ever played).

Insecterminator by recyx 2024-10-11T18:50:38Z

Insect survivors, nice. Great art and music. Fun gameplay but there's some issues. Primarily the fact that I kept losing my cursor and that the movement speed is inconsistent (I was moving much faster diagonally). I think there was also some potential lost with the weapons. They could've been more like actual extermination tools (like ant chalk). RN it feels like a bullet heaven with an insect skin.

Yeet them all ! by zoglu 2024-10-12T10:06:28Z

This is a really fun and well polished game. It demonstrates an excellent understanding of scope for a solo dev. I like the deliberate clicks for movement as it incentivizes better positioning. One thing I would recommend is having the shoot button be right click or something else. I found myself shooting accidentally while moving. Also, it doesn't feel like a tiny creatures game.

Yeet them all ! by zoglu 2024-10-12T10:38:49Z

@zoglu A sense of scale works well since I don't immediately relate these designs to tiny creatures. Maybe if the levels were taking place on a object that conveys that? Not sure tbh, it's a difficult problem to solve. Could also be the crates that make it feel off since I think of crates as larger objects.

Prince Charmony by 100th_Coin 2024-10-11T20:11:56Z

That was a delightful cutscene followed by a game with unplayable performance issues (I don't have a graphics card). The art and music are lovely. The ideas for the mechanics are great. I tried the light gpu build, and it was fun, but I cannot rate the game based on it (I'll dock points for graphics).

Fungi Flow by homeworld 2024-10-08T14:39:00Z

I like the concept. It reminds me of the wind up and fly toys my parents would never get me. I appreciate the setting for the music, but the sound effects were what ended up being really loud. I couldn't play for too long either because of the performance, gave me a headache. (Probably my hardware)

Fry Quest by Togis 2024-10-11T19:20:53Z

POH-TAe-TOES! Sam knew what was up. This is a charming game. I love the designs for the potatoes, especially the grandpappy. The dialogue was fun but a little overindulgent, even with the skip option. Though I do like the information relayed. Would also be nice to go back into fullscreen in HTML if you accidentally exit it.

Sammich by ColeSlaughter 2024-10-12T17:52:04Z

Awesome game. Challenging game. Wonderful art and sound. Not sure what I can add to what others have said. I got to 3250 points. Would play again.

David vs Goliath: What the government doesn't want you to know by CaptainDreamcast 2024-10-11T20:56:21Z

Fun, short experience. Interesting use of the theme. Hit detection works very well. I do think the game is a little too easy and that David can take way too many hits. A single hit from Goliath should feel like getting hit with a sack of bricks.

PLEASE, GNOMORE by CyTheRabbit 2024-10-08T15:05:22Z

Top tier sound. Simple but satisfying game play. Wish there was a little more clarity with interactions.

Humanely Haunted by darefus 2024-10-12T09:04:36Z

Lovely vibe and art. The gameplay is a bit brutal. The spiders are frustrating especially when the mice keep respawning after you catch them. The bookshelves are also a strange choice since they have absolutely no tell and a massive hitbox.

Pick Up Lines by gamebuilder 2024-10-12T10:28:40Z

I am confused. I have no idea how to read the map. Also not sure how this fits into the little creatures theme very well. It seems you're playing as a doll, but there's no sense of scale. This might change after the first maze but I could not figure out how to get through.

Bug Bazaar by Jared Saizdelamora 2024-10-09T08:18:39Z

The vibe reminds me of an early pixar short. I wish there was a little more to do as far as the observation of the bugs you raise and breed goes.

Ogron Gramsay's Culinary Journey by N.O.X 2024-10-11T21:16:08Z

Fun concept and art. I did not feel like there was enough incentive to try out all the dishes and collect all the ingredients.

Blood Crux by Dmitry Kaidash 2024-10-08T16:10:47Z

Its dope. Amazing game loop. Lots of potential going forward as well. The indicators for low hp and bats are too distracting. Audio might work better. The attack combos don't feel very useful and it feels like the bat meter doesn't drain fast enough.

Amoeba With A Shotgun by LEOtheCOO1 2024-10-11T20:29:35Z

The game is weird. It drops you into a potential hellzone and had me frantically dodging and shooting. Until I realized I couldn't die. I'm not sure if there's a game win condition. You're also not supposed to harm other microbes but I don't think there's any mechanic implemented or at least communicated that dissuades this.

Head'quarters by YogurtTheHorse 2024-10-08T20:14:32Z

Thematically this game is awesome. I love the idea of tiny creatures running around in a brain trying to keep up with a deluge of crises and tasks. The game is very well polished in presentation. The gameplay does leave me wanting more. Perhaps if the creatures were partitioned in a way?

Snow Flipper by nevercade 2024-10-08T14:48:43Z

The art style is cute but I couldn't get the fishing rod to work. Tried all the keys listed on this page and then some.

Dino Island Safari by Skleembof 2024-10-09T07:58:13Z

Been a while since I've played a rail shooter. Took me back to House of the Dead. The on rails sections work well until you fall off the jeep. There were some issues with enemies reaching the jeep before I had a decent chance to kill them. It also doesn't fit with the tiny creatures theme. The hit detection on the dinos seems to be well implemented.

Kumamushi no Samurai by Codeman1010 2024-10-11T17:58:28Z

The idea and music are cool. The gameplay is a bit lacking. It doesn't feel responsive (hitboxes and animations are a little janky). The movement speed encourages rushing but the one shot mechanic makes it awkward. There's also no reason to block.

Antibody by Alopar 2024-10-11T17:11:04Z

Made it to wave 10. Fun game. Great adherence to the theme. There were some issues of visual clarity. Somethings didn't stand out like they should when art assets overlapped. Swapping between the marks was a little cumbersome and dying was a little disorienting.

Chumini: Tiny Army by Guilloteam 2024-10-09T08:08:35Z

OK so this is a fun game. I like the idea of building a horde of bugs that destroy demons. The spritework is great. There's a some gameplay issues I noticed. First is that the camera can be really disorienting with how it follows the player. The EXP pickup can be inconsistent and its a little hard to see. The varieties of chumini don't feel different enough to be noticeable in gameplay.

Love and War on Your Face by Googoobachoo 2024-10-12T10:53:27Z

Love the concept. The model of the face is cute. I played as a dermodex which could be hard to see based on where you are. The game win condition doesn't seem to be working too well as I def had more than 70% population. The game is also a little too easy.

Tinysaurs by v1ris 2024-10-08T14:59:41Z

Cute game. Lots of silly creatures but I wish I could do something more with them (like mii channel).

Rex-Terminator by Deruitda 2024-10-12T08:43:43Z

Fun concept. Great usage of theme. My issue with the game is the controls. They're too slippery for how fast they are. The wall jumps also feel inconsistent. The checkpoints also spawned me on top of enemies. I would also clear an enemy on a wall and jump onto the wall only for an enemy to spawn immediately and damage me.

TinyTrip by Bassilij 2024-10-12T08:35:14Z

This a cool game. Neat concept. I like the speed ramping but the penalty for colliding with one of your siblings seems a bit harsh, especially early. The tail also tends to disconnect from the body sometimes. The music is great btw. The YEAH had me in fits.

Not All Dogs Go To Heaven by al_is_kinda_cute 2024-10-08T20:00:59Z

I like the idea of matching demon dogs to suitable owners and the art is cute. But, I don't think this idea was captured in an interesting way. The answer to the question of which dog is the right fit is either too forthcoming or confusing. It feels more like a gimmick than a mechanic. Same thing goes for the dog catching. These would be fine if they were supporting a meaningful game mechanic.

Itty Bitty Kitties by Grizwhirl 2024-10-11T20:34:20Z

I like the concept. It's simple and calming. Rolling cats are cute. There's some performance issues, but it's playable.

Against All Odds by JuanRod707 2024-10-08T19:36:45Z

Love the idea of fending off against giant bugs as puny humans. Our team was considering that as well. The map feels a little too big with no info on where the spiders and castles are. The delivery method for the troops doesn't seem ideal as it does not allow precise tactical placement. The spiders might also be too tanky for the amount of units you can place (maybe I just suck at this).

GELATINOUS INVADER SIMULATOR by Fint 2024-10-11T20:21:20Z

I like the art and the soundscape. The enemies with guns don't seem to be visually distinct enough from the others. Got many of my slimes killed cos I didn't understand what was going on.

La Cucaracha by dagon 2024-10-11T21:39:43Z

Windows defender is giving me a warning :(

Ego by Calcopod 2024-10-08T15:27:09Z

The wet fart sounds in the menu jump scared me lmao. Love the concept love the look. The trail your character leaves behind you is a wonderful mechanic. Also nice to see an ROR enthusiast. Terrain was a little inconsistent. The dialogue is a little excessive as it keeps stopping your progress (maybe that's thematically intended). Think there was also a repeated message or two on the signs. This game feels too big for its concept. The loop wears thin and the atmosphere fades. I get that it's probably for building tension, but it takes away from the experience after a while. I also don't think this fits under the little creatures theme. At least from what I played. I wasn't looking forward to this theme either.

Tic-Tac-Tic-Tac-Toe by torte478 2024-10-11T19:46:48Z

It's a neat game, but I don't see how it adheres to the theme. The multiplier bar to the left doesn't seem to do anything. I'm not sure what the win condition is. Also the AI seems inconsistent.

Homunculi by AlpalcaLad 2024-10-08T14:09:20Z

I enjoyed the concept and the ideas implemented but the game proved to be a little frustrating after the arm power up. I couldn't full screen the game, so that added to the difficulty (I gave up on the third arm shimmy puzzle). Amazing idea and interesting but frustrating execution.

Death Harbor by f1tzy 2024-10-11T21:59:10Z

I like the art. It's cute. Very Hambo. The gameplay feels off, especially the shooting. Is it 8 directional? Also there's no feedback when you get hit or a clear indicator of player health.

Laverino by Kirass 2024-10-09T07:50:09Z

It's a cute game but I found myself getting bored with the gameplay. The QTEs were jarring and awkwardly prompted. The theme is very well realized.

Fuzzies Don't Know What to Do! by AllenW 2024-10-08T19:24:23Z

I really like the concept here, but the on-boarding is rough. There needs to be a steadier buildup in the difficulty and number of puzzle pieces. The level with the switch is a huge jump. Th levels preceding that might be more easy than intended.

Kill That Guy by Skyloh 2024-10-12T10:25:19Z

Cute game, fun voice acting. Didn't see any reason to use any block besides the thorns one on the first 2 levels.

Night of Yurei by Mathkarma 2024-10-11T21:36:29Z

I cannot run this.

Hang On! by Braulio_JG 2024-10-11T20:51:02Z

Neat game. As afraid as I am of spiders, they get a bad rep. And playing as one to keep a home pest free is a charming concept. The art is cute but the music got a little annoying after a while. The game could also use some kind of feedback when the mosquitoes get past your defenses.

The Witch's Offspring by little-crow-heart 2024-10-08T14:32:08Z

The art is great. Falling off and not getting reset is unfortunate. The level feels very empty. The implementation of the theme is great but it lacks the meat and potatoes that make a game.

Nit N'Run by Mikl95 2024-10-11T22:25:00Z

I like the idea but the execution is rough. I could not figure out how to infect people. The camera also tends to get a little unwieldy.

InFected by Skrelevsky 2024-10-08T16:33:38Z

The wall of text at the start is problematic (I couldn't skip past it for a while). Enemies go from being too easy to too difficult. There's some good art here, but the game play and enemies are unimaginative.

ECHOES OF THE GNOMES by meylish 2024-10-08T19:47:51Z

The atmosphere is great. The way in which information is presented is well done. The audio is good, but unbalanced. I found myself getting bored during gameplay as it was too slow and too easy. There was no tension after the first monster.

Tiny Terrors by Douuggggg 2024-10-08T15:32:08Z

Its fun but doesn't feel like tiny creatures.

TinyWar by Iaroslavik 2024-10-11T19:07:06Z

I really, really want to love this game. The description had me hyped for a funny game and the art is charming. In practice the game fell short. It's a really frustrating game to play with the limited resources and the TTP (time to poop). The dogs also seemed to be a little inconsistent when it came to the fecal attraction. Hope you guys can flesh this idea out further.

The Fish that Figured it Out by Dean Goodson 2024-10-08T15:53:10Z

This game is painfully slow to start. Would recommend shifting gears to not buying move speed and increasing game speed.

gmO- by James-Tanm 2024-10-12T09:20:50Z

This was a fun game. I wish there was a little more you could do to mitigate suspicion.

Familiar Bones by barryrichter 2024-10-08T14:22:11Z

Liked the art style and the dreamlike plot. The interactions feel a little weird. I couldn't figure out how to fly. I was also very sad that i couldn't see my jack o lantern masterpiece after i was done :(

Little Chef by DERRIXX 2024-10-11T18:36:02Z

Ah Ratatouille the game. Tres bien. I like the simple art and the chill music. However, the controls were awkward, perhaps intentionally so. When I clicked on the control option, I felt a little overwhelmed. Mostly cos I don't have a full size keyboard (didn't matter in the end). Having the interact button for the right hand be R.shift is weird. Still, managed to chop up some tomatoes and cucumbers. Could not figure out how to chop up a pepper (maybe a bug?).

Emberlight by Frostbeak 2024-10-08T20:23:29Z

@meylish Thanks for the feedback! We opted for tank controls for this game. W moves the character in the direction it's facing. A and D let you rotate your character. This can be a little strange to get used to but we felt it worked better for our game.

Emberlight by Frostbeak 2024-10-12T10:10:44Z

@wind1e Haha ya the butt first thing was unintentional. They turn away from you when they're in the light. Glad you enjoyed it. Checkpoints and fixing the level design were a priority for us but we just barely missed adding it to the LD build.

Monthkeeper by markeryjane 2024-10-11T20:44:09Z

Interesting game. Simple mechanics and cute art, but I found myself lacking the drive to play more. There's also little adherence to the theme.

Detective Roach by Cizec 2024-10-12T08:54:21Z

Loveley concept. We were considering doing something similar. The theme is wonderfully realized. I love that you're carrying the magnifying glass with your antenna and that you move faster when you crawl. I did get stuck at the bar tho. I could talk to one of the patrons but not the rest. I would also recommend having E skip to the end of the current dialog and then have one more input to move onto the next one.
