I made Bjordas and I loved him and I also made Torengrin but then I couldn't afford food so I had to sell Bjordagas and then I had three more ent (unt?) friends but then one had exclamation marks over his head and I kept dropping food to make him happy but he was in the corner and some asshole was camping over the food drop part of the cage so my ant friend exploded into a pile of food and poop and another ont ate him!

FIVE STARS!

pachino55 2024-10-08 03:09

Cool game!

jared-saizdelamora 2024-10-08 03:11

I'm glad we got to make that story together, David. Bless.

boxedmeatrevolution 2024-10-08 03:12

Love the game's 80's aesthetics. I was not expecting my bugs to want to murder each other. I was hoping they'd be friends. There's a weird bug (lol) that had my unt spinning in the corner at one point. I might have glossed over the instructions, but I don't think it is exactly clear what the symbols on the bugs mean. Also, the instructions should be condensed to be easier to follow.

kyoryucomic 2024-10-08 03:13

Pretty good, love the concept, its a very slow game though but thats my only real complaint

oldtoadpower 2024-10-08 03:23

It's a very curious game, but figuring out what to do is difficult. I think it would be more convenient to just move around the room like in an FPS. The font chosen for the tutorial is not the best.

bloodfin 2024-10-08 03:23

Had a blast with this one, really cool core gameplay and enjoyed the discovery of mixing and seeing what we could get. Could really see an idle game version of this I would keep up in a window at work. Fantastic job!

damien-black 2024-10-08 03:31

I like some of the visual polish you put on things. The Beetles only sell for $225, so I couldn't get enough for a spider. :(

From a gameplay perspective, there seems to be no reason to keep any creatures besides the two you are breeding. All-in-all, congratulations on the game.

2024-10-08 03:35

Spoiler: don't click the pen and try breeding.

thechadrampage 2024-10-08 03:47

Very enjoyable, might be worth starting the game on the how to play screen though, took me a moment to catch my bearings. Nice work!

memz 2024-10-08 14:18

Hey everyone, we appreciate all the attention and feedback everyone has given us. Thank you all for trying out Bug Bazaar!

kirass 2024-10-08 17:15

Funny game! I liked it!

julienlussiez 2024-10-08 17:24

Nice little game. It's fun to breed some tiny creatures. It would have been interesting to have more feedbacks when you click on something. Good job anyway.

spritesurge 2024-10-08 17:26

I love husbandry type games, so this was really fun! I like the style and how you switch between set camera angles, it felt super smooth and not restrictive in any way :) The music loop can get to be a bit much after you've played for a while, so maybe a more chill soundtrack wouldve been better

brainles-etertainment 2024-10-08 17:33

My both Unts turned into poops, not sure what I've done wrong :(

memz 2024-10-08 17:52

@brainles-etertainment they have happiness and health meters that we unfortunately weren't able to display within the given time. Sorry for not making that clear in the descriptions.

angrybeard 2024-10-08 17:54

neat game! i liked the integration of the tutorials and options into the gameworld!

almaz 2024-10-08 17:59

I can spend hours playing this game!

jared-saizdelamora 2024-10-08 18:14

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Couple things to clarify real quick:

-You can breed insects of any species together. There is a 50% chance of the final insect being either species -Hoppers sell for the most money, but the Beebl and Speetr come with a mutation (tusks and stinger, respectively), so it can be worth grabbing one to get those mutations if you don't have them -The Sell tab on the computer doesn't update automatically, you have to click buy or option then click back. That's what we like to call "A Ludum Dare feature". -If the game feels to slow for you, *SPOILER* click the pen next to the breeding notebook. While enabled, all eggs received from breeding will have a guaranteed mutation. -You can turn the music off in the options menu on the computer. Didn't get to randomize the song order in time, so I know it can get a little old after a while.

kirass 2024-10-08 18:18

little-crow-heart 2024-10-08 18:38

This was fun to play! I like that the tutorial is a poster and options and other menu stuff is inside the computer. Also really like the aesthetic and old timey-ness of this game ^^

ziobob 2024-10-08 19:15

very cute, but my bugs didn't go to eat and died in a short span :(

nimidori311 2024-10-09 00:22

Bug Bazaar is such a wonderfully creative game! From purchasing eggs to hatching, breeding, and even exploring mutations, every step is filled with fun. The game mechanics have a lot of depth, especially with the mutation system, which adds an exciting twist to each breeding attempt. Managing your bugs is both challenging and rewarding, making you feel like a true bug-breeding master. The developers have clearly put a lot of love into the details, creating a unique and charming insect world. While the web version is still being tweaked, it runs smoothly on mobile—definitely worth a try! Can’t wait to see future updates and more content!

iven 2024-10-09 00:41

This is a very well-made game. However, the waiting can be a bit frustrating—maybe it's a good game to play while working ;p. But after my ants started reproducing, some of them randomly disappeared. Is that normal? And sometimes the ants get stuck and stop moving. It would be great if I could drag them around. (Also, it would prevent one ant from eating all the food— *hey! That’s not for you! *)

ale 2024-10-09 00:44

I really enjoyed this despite the bugs (pun intended). These things have explosive shits that send them flying into the corners of the enclosure, where they become forever stuck and never eat again. Once those get hungry the only thing I can do is sell them quickly before they die :(

The concept is great and I would love to play a full game like this, so I hope you finish it! Nice job!

barryrichter 2024-10-09 01:42

I love making a stack of feed for the bugs to consume!

radjax 2024-10-09 02:27

Very cool! Was fun to try the different combinations and the background track was a great vibe for the game. I did drop food straight on bugs who just ate which wasn't intended, but the idea is solid

sharky3188 2024-10-09 03:07

A nice concept of building up a little creature selling business. I think having the tutorial on the paper at the start should tried to be incorporated into the main game. It was very hard to read, and it had a bit too much text. Graphics could be worked on a little bit more to help immerse me in the world. I think with a simple concept like this having it visually appealing would draw me into feel more invested in my creatures. Overall a solid concept.

cloistered 2024-10-09 05:59

Cool game

sutt00 2024-10-09 08:18

The vibe reminds me of an early pixar short. I wish there was a little more to do as far as the observation of the bugs you raise and breed goes.

dfyzet 2024-10-09 10:08

It's a very interesting idea. It takes a bit of time to figure it out, but it's good that there is an instruction manual. I would like a little more pace - for example, you could buy improvements for the laboratory, but the game itself is still cool

rum-ham 2024-10-09 10:14

Lol great. Indeed art style is giving early pixar like old school Toy Story or something. The music was a great fit and I quite enjoyed the game loop although it was a bit word heavy to start. Perhaps there was a way you could introduce concepts more organically to make the ease in a bit better

jscommander 2024-10-09 10:36

I really enjoyed the concept - selling ants is such a cool idea! The music was super pleasant too, it added a nice vibe to the gameplay. I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to breed the insects at first, but I got the hang of it. Sometimes my ants would die even when they seemed to have food, which was a little confusing. But overall, it was a fun experience!

stames 2024-10-09 14:02

That is awesome. Sometimes the insects didn't eat although I put some food in the tank and I think there is a bug with the money because I wasn't able to buy food when I had exactly 5$ but the whole breading game mechanic is just awesome

memz 2024-10-09 18:42

Hey, wanted to start by saying this has been amazing. From making a game from scratch to being able to interact with everyone has been absolutely incredible. To address some things specifically, @dfyzet We did have plans for upgrading the incubator and breeder to have more accessibility, but unfortunately time constraints prevented it. It was a similar case for the introduction of concepts @rum-ham. Anyways, I wanted to reiterate that we really appreciate all the attention and support! If we do wind up deciding to take this project further, the feedback you all have given us is worth more than it's weight in gold. Thank you all!

gamayun-games 2024-10-09 19:10

Such a nice game! i like how meditative it is and it was also fun to explore new bugs and different mutations thez have. just a couple of points that i'd like to mention: - maybe i didn't get it, but i wish there was a reason to leave my bugs in a tank to take care of them. rightnow i am looking at them for a sec and sell them immediately. thus i didn't really use eat and poop mechanics :) - if the sell tab is open and a new bug appears in a tank, you have to click on 'sell' one more time to see the bug there. - the names of the bugs are just adorable! - i liked the idea of a tutorial poster, but maybe it would be better to have shorter instructions, so it would be easier to get yourself aquainted with them :) - it would be really fun to have an additional goal, like breed a certain type of a beetle or reach a certain amount of money.

had fun, earned 5000 $, my bugs worked quite hard in a breeding tank, thank you!

lerkadverka 2024-10-09 19:23

You had a very cozy atmosphere, it was really relaxing)

jared-saizdelamora 2024-10-09 19:55

Hey @gamayun, thank you for your feedback, that's super helpful. As to the tank, it's really dependent on playstyle - sometimes you might have several insects with mutations, and want to breed them to a single insect, so you hold them in the tank for a bit. Or, you just want to see a giant Speetr with wings and claws decimate a bunch of ants. As to your other points, absolutely. We were down to the wire monday night, I literally threw that instruction poster together an hour before submission lol. Sadly, alot of features got left on the cutting room floor; I wanted a coprophagy mutation so you could have an insect that eats feces instead of having to clean it; Josh designed a really neat temperature control system for the main tank, with different insects having a temperature threshold- pretty sure it's even included in the pseudo-DNA randomizer we wrote. I love that idea of goals though, maybe a sort of check-list of bugs you need to breed, which in turn would unlock new bug types to buy. We really loved making this game, so we'll likely continue on development after ludum dare, and your feedback is invaluable, thank you very much.

smoore 2024-10-09 21:50

Cool concept. Having to wait a lot especially at the beginning is kinda rough but if the idea is a semi idle game then it kinda works. I do enjoy the old timey piano music though!

daria-toni 2024-10-09 21:54

I see that many of ideas and questions have already been raised by other people, but I personally think the idea of the game is interesting and cool. I can see how it could be developed into something very fun and addictive. I would increase the hatching speed of the cheapest insects to speed up the early part of the game, which seems a bit boring. But I like that the whole process works! (the main thing is not to sell an insect when it's breeding, otherwise the book will break).

pimping 2024-10-09 22:59

Nice theme match, like game tho. =)

kseniya 2024-10-10 21:37

The theme is there, visually the game looks cute and simple, you did a great job, bravo!

langit 2024-10-11 17:00

A really great game, probably played for about 30 minutes until I got to the final insects. kept me engaged the entire time, so props to you guys. I wish you could buy more breeding chambers, and incubators it would allow you to keep previous bugs to and keep breeding them.

sasha20 2024-10-14 00:56

The game’s aesthetic is as interesting as its thematic approach, making it truly stand out. God Job!

nerolee 2024-10-25 02:22

Nice game ,keep going ,bro
