This game is perfect! don't change a thing!
You nailed the Hotline Miami aesthetic, so well done on that. the game controls well, and I like the variable mask powers. However, the "hugs" are just heart shaped bullets, so the weapon didn't feel to unconventional.
this game barely seemed to work. my attack didn't feel like it did anything aside from freezing the others. Also, picking up the coins and re blogs was a cute idea, but it didn't seem to do anything. The theme is cute, and i like the satirical nature, but there isn't much game here, unfortunately.
Making a game in a PDF is a...novel concept! I'll see myself out, but I'll leave you with a solid 4 star rating. Good Job!
Great little game! The final level had a great twist and made your game match the theme much better. I was about to give 3 stars on the theme but the final battle saved it.
Two things i would do to improve the game:
1) Add music. The game will feel more lively with music. the other sound effects are fine as they match and set the tone of the game.
2) tighten up the controls. The shampoo button was inconsistently responsive, and give a bit of visual an/or auditory feedback when you click the right area on the hair to start dragging from. Sometimes i would think i clicked and dragged on the hair, only to get deducted time!
Overall, a good entry, and I hope you get more recognition.
This game is surprisingly hilarious!
I wish you didn't lose the motivation for this one. This could have been a barrel of fun! Some sound, and a couple more levels and this would have been a great entry!!
Instant 5 stars in humor for the Bad Dudes reference in the description!
Wow! really well made game! i especially loved the Character name, the art style, and how deep and flexible some of the powers were like the yellow "flick" power. my only complaint is that the music doesn't loop very well, but its good music!
I love Wario ware, so i loved this game! I don't see how it fits the theme but it's amazing nonetheless. You made the low-fi graphics work for you!
One of the best entries in here! A solid tutorial would go a long way if this went to a full release, but as it stands, I could see this being a fun little mobile diversion. The music, animation, and Juice is EXCELLENT!
Art style is EXCELLENT! I love the main protagonist! She's super cute! I would buy a plushie of her, and she'd make a great studio mascot!
The game felt pretty good, too. the aesthetic reminded me of PS1 platformers. The platforming felt right, and well tuned. However, a small blob shadow below the player'd feet would help immensely because it was hard to tell if i was going to land on a platform or not. being able to use a shadow to aim my jumps would help a great deal.
Otherwise, great entry! The soundtrack fits well, too.
Maybe I'm thick, but i was unable to find anything to shoot/interact with aside from the orange self-destruct panel, and the blue panel in the room you started at. As such, i just booked it from the start zone, to the orange panel and back and i won. Not sure if this was intentional, but that's possible.
Cool concept. It seemed impossible to keep everyone fed, because of how many of them there were that were talking simultaneously. also, the left button of singling people out didn't work while holding food which was strange.
Overall, cool concept, just work on balance.
The game doesn't seem to fit the Jam's theme very well. It came off to me just as a platformer.
And as a platformer, the controls were tough to use. IT seems that when you hit a wall it turns off your movement. so that mean that if i'm holding left into a wall, then press jump, my character wont move to the left when it's above the wall. That's not how platformers work. Also, it's hard to turn around for a similar reason. when the game worked, it felt good to jump over platforms and such, though. the first part before the pits in the "hell" level felt really nice to jump through.
OVerall, the game seemed ok. I don't understand what the unconventional weapon is, but maybe i'm just thick-headed.
The shooting felt weird. the way you levitated when shooting didn't feel right. The jumping is really really buggy
i just jumped straight up and i seemed to just snap to the closest platform.
Also, when i depleted what i assumed to be the boss's pink health bar, the game kept going. was i missing something?
Anyway, the best part was the rainbow barrage. i loved emptying my gold bar to trigger that. it felt really nice to mow down enemies for a few seconds.
Cool idea, but the execution is a bit rough in places.
Iteration loop is too long. Allow us to skip the opening cininematic after the first time.
The Drag and drop controls are not responsive. When i pick up on an object, there is no feedback until i try moving my character. I expected to either hear something, or see the object i'm dragging snap to my cursor and follow my cursor when i turn around like in Portal or Half-life 2.
BUG: the notepad fell through the floor and severely restricted my movement.
I got three items on the desk, but nothing happened. it was the TP, the batteries, and the plant. Some indication that those things don't work together would be nice, if that's a bad combo.
Not a fan of the subject matter, personally. My biggest suggestion is to have the WASD controls not move your character in relation to where your character is pointed. That feels more natural.
secondly, an ammo counter would be nice to help keep track of how many fetuses we have to shoot. I know it's only 5 but it would be nice.
thirdly, give the game a bit more "juice" to the shooting and the enemy killing. The lack of sound, in particular, on enemies dying makes the kills feel weak.
Your Source link is broken. Could you fix it,please? I'd love to check out the source files for this game as you've done some really cool effects in Construct that i'd like to try in my next game.
Also, your game is great! I don't really have anything to say about improving it that't not a nitpick.
If this is a real thing that is done, I'm glad you're bringing awareness to it. The theme sells this game. I like your take on an unconventional weapon. The game controls nicely, and i like how there is a bit of a choice to be made. One of the best entries, well done!
Good game! for the folks that like typing games, this is a great one. I'm not a fan of typing games, but i can tell that this was a good entry.
Fun little game. easy to install, thought i have the UE 4 engine installed already.
This game would be a full star better if it had sound. No joke. It was really disappointing to click to chirp and hear nothing. That'd be the thing i'd add to this game before a boss battle.
Good mood, good sound and visuals, but the weapon just felt like a thinly veiled skin for a "punch" attack.
Ineresting concept, but the gameplay just boiled down to systematic trial and error. Eventually, i stopped reading the text since there didn't seem to be any hinting in the text.
Glad that the monsters were just shapes or else i would have shit my pants! Fun game, graphics were functional, but the look controls felt odd. hard to describe, but it felt like resident evil 4 look controls, but i was able to move.
Anyway, good entry, i had a lot of fun. Work on teh controls to get them to feel nicer and less floaty when walking.
Game is hard! >.<
It would have been nice to explain the controls, but i figured them out. And once i saw that the weapon switches every time you fire it i got it. it was cool, but I felt that there wasn't much room for counter play when you got a weapon like the heal gun and the pull gun aside form shooting at nothing to get rid of the weapon.
Balance the difficulty, and the game will be more enjoyable. Right now, it just feel unfair.
The protagonist looks like Adam Savage from MythBusters. Is the final boss Jamie as a Walrus?
Grats on your first LD entry!
The game is pretty well done for your first time! Ares of improvement:
- The music was a bit too repetitive. No one like a 5-second music loop.
- your audio balance was a bit out of whack. music overpowered all other sound effect.
- the framerate/speed of the jump is jarring. it's hard to hit the planes and bags because of it. slow it down and/or increase the framerate to help with this.
- The cow launcher is fun, if not a bit OP.
Good game overall, and keep at it!
This game is impossible, IMO. I can barely kill 2 or three people before getting surrounded and dying.
Thanks for all of the feedback folks! I hace looked into the issue of the enemies not giving the correct amount of points, and I have fixed it!
Greens should give 5 points, Yellows shoukd give 16 points, and Reds should give 40 points.
I agree, FrozenFire. I was thinking of adding that as the jam came to a close, but not enough time to implement the mini health bars.
Noted, CornflowerBlue. I purposefully inflated the amount of point you made just to see how players react. I fully understand if it feels a bit too easy. If more player feedback is similar, I'll be sure to scale down the point value on the Red and Yellow enemies, for sure.
Interesting concept, but the controls are jerky. Tighten up the controls, and add some variations to the gameplay to improve the game. Good start!
Five Star Entry! I can't think of a single bad thing to say aside from the simplicity? and that's reaching. Great work!
The Hacking was pretty fun, actually. some of the characters were tough to decipher initially, though. maybe try to avoid using symbols like the apostrophe, and the letter O and such as they tend to look similar to other symbols/letters
I was able to finish the game once. i like the art style, and it was pretty fun to mow my lawn. the instructions took a couple times to read to comprehend, but once understood, the game was fun. Not the game feels fine how it is. adding some variations via power ups, and different mole types might be fun.
The theme, concept, and mechanics are really fun, and well though out. However, the resolution is too low for me to decipher what it going on. I found it hard to enjoy because the sprites were simply too small. It's like playing Risk of Rain on a 30" monitor with no scaling, or just watching ants from across a classroom.
Fun game! The firewall turrets get a bit silly after a point where they kill enough files to almost self replicate. However, I don't think that's a bad thing! It feels like you accomplished something when you get to a point where you can jut sit back and spam the space bar, IMO. Good use of recognizable computer icons to convey files that are buried deep. Good work!
If you see this as something that's supposed to be bad, then this is OK. Mechanically speaking, there isn't anything to do aside form clicking, and waiting.
This game is too hard. It's hardest when enemies spawn immediately to your left or right, so maybe prevent them from spawning there? it's like near impossible when they do that.
The cheat codes were fun. I really liked wasup! Cards as a weapon was cute, but they still just felt like bullets.
Also, what's with the arrow keys warping the vision? that's a cool effect!
I like the look of the game. Just felt like a shooter though. the weapons didn't feel to distinct. i was able to just spam brain power and the refill button ad do very well
The game looks nice, and the music is good, but what is playable isn't much of a game. Maybe if you scaled back on things like the Character and ship selection, and the different colors of planets, you would have been able to finish the second half of the game.
I just want something to do with all of these resources i clicked on!
Great entry! I was about to comment on the lact of sound, but the fact that there's humorous beat boxing at the main meat of the game lended more importance to it, and it set the tone for the battle. My only request is to add keyboard support and have the highlight start in the middle of the 3 options. or allow us to just hit 1, 2, or 3 for an option. The fact that the cursor hides itself makes me lose track of it, and i have to spend a good .5-1 second figuring out where it is so i can move it to the right choice.
Overall, 5 stars across the board.
Couldn't play teh web version. I couldn't aim anywhere but up, and ti was controlled by moving left or right with ym cursor. if i had to shoot someone and my cursor was outside the window, i couldn't!
Great music, concept was humorous, albeit shallow. Mechanically, you had no real control over where the hula-hoop was going to be thrown, but it seems you designed around it.
FYI Judges, spamming left and right is not a legitimate strat.
Great concept! I would say work on teaching it to the player better. i did not get that i had to change my light bulb and THEN peck then ground to apply the power. Also, make the grey floors stand out more. it' was hard to tell which floors i could color and which ones i couldn't.
Lastly, add some sound! it would really help this game to have some sound. it felt sorta lifeless without it. But, I do like the art style. keep up the good work!
not sure why, but when i tried jumping, my character flew off the top of the screen and never came back down. I couldn't play the game because of it.
After figuring out that there were multiple egg types, this game became a bit more fun. however, the weapon isn't very unconventional. it's barely a skin for just regular bullets and missiles. Play up the theme more, with things that would happen on a farm.
I liked the insult fight in Monkey island so it was great to see someone recreate that. I will say that the beginning can be frustrating for those folks who have not played the MI version and don't understand that you WILL lose most of your fight in the beginning, but that's by DESIGN. If you see people getting frustrated about not winning, then I would say that you should communicate to the player to expect to lose their early matches because they need to learn the various insults and counters. They did so in Monkey Island, and that helped players prepare for the insult fights. I hope you really do flesh this out!
Excellent music and mood! This is just not my kind of game. the poetic writing I found hard to follow, but I naturally have issues following a text only story. For someone else, I can see them enjoying the story, but all I could do was enjoy the soundtrack. Good thing it's a great soundtrack!
The game worked for me, FWIW.
Once i figured out ow to defeat each enemy, the game was quite fun! The only wierdness i experienced is that the cursor stays in the same x, y position on the map instead of with the camera. If this was intentional, i think it should not be this way. it makes the cursor feel buggy and unresponsive because it's not how I expected the cursor to move when i moved the camera.
Other than that, the game was really good!
The concept is novel, but the gameplay doesn't seem to fit the theme at all. Also, I have no idea how my unit placement is affecting the cities i'm placing them. I feel like i'm not doing anything and i'm only waiting for $100 to place a unit that doesn't seem to do anything, even when i put the hecklers on blue, and the comedians on red.
One more suggestion, differntiate the heckler and comedian pieces more. Aside from the blue vs red bases for player vs CPU, it was hard to tell comedians from hecklers.
